555 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō Sighing as his frame filled the doorway, Nanashi ducked a little to get through the doorway, and sauntered into his quarters. A creature of habit, Nanashi always turned on the light before closing the door, and to do so he had to hit the light switch that was more than a step away from the door. Going back and closing his door was left forgotten once he was past the dining table that held several folders and papers with notes scrawled all over them. The switch lay on the pillar that ran through that table, and once he had touched it, the idea to go back and shut the door faded away like a puff of smoke. Others viewed the position of the apparatus to be "misplaced" and "a design flaw," but Nanashi had a different opinon, but mostly because he could easily navigate in the darkness.
Abandoning Sōshi in the nearest chair, Nanashi's hand went to his kosode and began to pull the article of clothing open as he moved towards the couch in his living room. Once the kosode had fallen past his shoulders, he relaxed, let gravity take over, and sank into the soft piece of furniture as the top of his uniform fell over his hakama-himo, baring his ravaged torso, something he hid from most people, and certainly all women. The wounds were a result of his accident, which he knew nothing of, and the fact that they were present was because many of them had existed before he was treated by Yuki, and some of them were from wounds that had been healed too late. While Yuki was certainly a miracle worker in the eyes of the general public, there was a certain amount she could do, and things she could not do, or so she had explained while apologizing for leaving him with this scarred body. Nevertheless, Nanashi did not mind it, but he certainly didn't tell anyone; not even his Captain.
A pack of cigarettes caught his eye, as well as the accompanying lighter, and after lightning one up, Nanashi leaned back on the couch, put his legs up on the table in front of him, and stared at the ceiling for a while. He had been fairly blunt with the girl and he felt a little bad for dumping his feelings on her, but it had annoyed him that she cared so much what other people called her. Taking a drag, Nanashi held the smoke in his mouth for a moment, then pushed it out, watching the smoke rise to the ceiling where it was sucked up by the ventilation system. He liked this brand, they didn't have a strong smell for some reason, or at least it wasn't as bad as other kinds. Eventually his gaze fell to the door which was in his direct line of sight should he stop looking towards the ceiling. Sighing, Nanashi pulled the cigarette from his lips and leaned forward to ash it, deciding not to bother shutting the thing since eventually someone would come by, poke their head in, and shut it for him. Leaning back, Nanashi fixed his gaze on the ceiling and shut his eyes, to take a small rest. He didn't actually fall asleep, but he was quiet enough to make it seem that way. ...Ara?___

Suzume had arrived and was standing near the door, her lithe form hovering uncertainly in the doorway. Nanashi’s living quarters would have been the best place that she pinned him down to go to first, since people often liked to think by themselves in their own areas. However, she was surprised and slightly shocked by the fact that he had firstly not shut the door and that the lights were still on. To tell the truth, she had expected him to be in some sort of contemplative mood, in which most people preferred to be in the darkness to think by themselves. Then again, she corrected herself, he was not like most people she had met. For one, she never knew anybody that didn’t have a name. Guilt ripped through her again, as she remembered the harsh words that she had said to him. She was a complete and utter idiot and she didn’t blame him for getting angry or getting upset over what she had said. People always told her that she had to control that tongue of hers or else she would get into trouble. It looked as if she had learnt that too late.
Shutting the door behind her, she took a few steps forward, before stopping. It would be rude and inconsiderate to get so close to him now. As it was obvious to basically everybody, she owed him a big apology. “I’m sorry for what I said,” she paused a little awkwardly, as she would have usually used a name here, “I-i-i-it’s just that I’m just always irritated by men, because I’ve had a bad run with them so far in my life. I’m sorry that I got worked up over such a little thing, it’s just that sometimes I get carried away sometimes. I’m not very good with controlling my temper very well, it flares up really easily.” It was obvious to all, by the tone of her voice and her face, that this was costing her quite a bit to say, since she wasn’t really used to apologising very often for her actions. Treading quietly, she came to a halt right in front of Nanashi. Her cheeks flamed red as she realized the fact that she had been, in fact, talking to a sleeping person. At least, that was how it seemed like to her. About to turn away and go out, she caught sight of his ravaged torso and her eyes widened in horror and shock. “Holy s**t,” she swore, breaking all the ladylike manners which she had been taught. Frozen to the spot, she could only stare and stare in utter disbelief as she scanned the injuries.

484 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō Upon hearing hearing the door shut, Nanashi's hand moved to his cigarette and he removed it from his mouth, dropping his hand shortly after as she made her way towards him. He remained silent on the grounds that he had not come here to get away from her, just that he had been done with the conversation. What she chose to do after the fact was entirely up to her, and he didn't mind either way. His open robes remained forgotten as he hadn't honestly expected her to be here, so he wasn't thinking about it. After listening to her speak and then fall silent, he opened his eyes too look towards here, only to find her gawking at his torso. Turning red, he ditched the cigarette in the ashtray, covered himself with a pillow comically and vanished, only to reappear in the kitchen with his back to the wall that now separated them. "Excuse my appearance, I'll fix it right away." He said quickly as he hurriedly slipped back into his robes, still red as a beet. Once fully clothed, he tugged the refrigerator open and pulled out a bottle of water, and a bottle of sake. Making his around to the table so that he could see her, he lobbed the bottle of water at her, leaving that for her because he simply assumed her to not be a drinker.
After filling an ochoko that he had retrieved from a cabinet up to 3 centimeters below the lip, he drained the contents of the cup, then placed his hands on the table, turned them apart from each other, and shifted a portion of his weight onto them. "You don't need to explain yourself, ojō-sama. You don't like me, I get that. I annoy you, so you don't think it's bad to tell me off every time I do something you disagree with. I imagine your upbringing is the reason you remain wholly ignorant to the fact that people like me that are much worse off. What do you have; A rich family? A caring sister? A name? Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Or maybe it's something else that makes you forget, I can't say because I'm too stupid to know these things." Pouring himself another three drinks, Nanashi downed all of them without showing a sigh of being tipsy, not that four cups was enough to do much to him anyway. "It's sad that no one even takes the time to understand; it's as you proved, they always scold me for being too silly, saying that it's not proper conduct for a Shinigami of my rank. Oh well, their loss." Not a playful line remained on his face and despite the fact that he looked terribly calm, it was clear that he was just plain annoyed. A rare emotion for him, but it certainly came around every now and then.

She hadn’t been intending to catch him half-naked or whatever, since she had assumed that he was sleeping. Most likely, he must have been faking or just resting at the moment. But still, those injuries! How could he have gotten something like that? Shouldn’t the fourth Division people be able to heal it? However, looking at the sheer extent of the damage, it would be pretty hard for anybody to heal something and with their talented healers, it must have been pretty bad. As he talked quickly to her about fixing his appearance, she hovered nervously where she had been, deliberating on whether or not she should leave. Sighing slightly, she decided to stay for the meantime. She had chosen to apologize and it would be best if she stayed just in case he wanted to say something to her. It seemed as if she had really managed to irritate him, especially about his name, so she wasn’t expecting to be told anything pleasant, really. Steeling herself, she made a quick promise to herself that she would not yell at him or get angry at him, no matter what she said. Too many spiteful and harsh words had already been exchanged between them.
When he had lobbed the bottle of water at her, she barely managed to catch it, slightly surprised by the fact that he had given her a bottle of water. For heaven’s sake, wasn’t he meant to be angry at her? Nervously turning it over in her hands, she didn’t move to open or drink it, as she wasn’t really thirsty at the moment. Really. As he started talking, she involuntarily flinched, her memories seeping back into her mind again. Her past had been something that she had been hoping to avoid, but since he asked her…She played with the bottle, listening intently, although she would not meet his eyes. Yeah, her initial thought was right – she had managed to annoy him. For a few seconds, she merely said nothing, silence descending upon the room. Finally finding her voice, she quietly said, her voice barely above a whisper. “My mother’s husband left my mother when I was born. Apparently, it was because of the fact that I was not his child or something like that. I never knew my real father, and neither did he care or bother to fulfil all the promises that he said to her. I can’t remember my death very well, to tell you the truth, I only remember being in shock about being dead.”
Her voice quivered slightly with some unidentifiable emotion, “Yes, like you said, I am part of a rich family, but I lived long enough before that, in the poorer parts of Rukongai, to know what life in poverty is like. And my sister, while she was caring, was barely at home, due to the fact that she wanted to avoid our parents in case they would marry her off to some old man again. I guess in a way that I was lucky, since they didn’t care as much about me to think that I could have an arranged marriage. The only reason I was barely able to become a Shinigami, was because of the fact that I am ‘not suitable enough’.” Her words dripped with poison, as she remembered exactly what she had heard her foster parents discussing over. Placing the bottle of water on the table, she walked towards the door, turning around and saying, “I’m sorry that I insulted you and I guess the only way that I can help you at the moment, would be to leave you alone since I seem to be merely riling you up further. Goodbye.” She walked out the door, biting her tongue and just scarcely able to stop herself from making a harsh or sarcastic remark. Instead of returning anywhere, she took quite a number steps away from Nanashi’s quarters, before slumping to the ground and crying softly.
[ Aw, poor Yuki. I've never played a character who speaks stupidly before...so yeah... sweatdrop And Suzume turned out more angry than I intended... ]

560 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō Many times during her spiel, Nanashi poured himself a cup of the sake, swirled the contents around, and then downed it with a quick gulp. Not once did he make eye contact with the girl, but instead stared down at the table, his cup, and the bottle, as if throughly interested in what the label had to say. After she was done speaking, had set the bottle down and walked out the door to start crying, Nanashi heaved a sigh, set his cup down and ambled over towards door and slipped out. "We're quite a pair." Rubbing the back of his neck, he seized her by the back of her uniform and picked her up. An effortless task for someone of his strength, Nanashi then proceeded to carry her back into his quarters, kick the door shut behind him, step over to his sleeping area, then gently fling her onto his bed.
While the gesture could easily imply that he intended to do certain things to her against her will, such thoughts would be dissuaded as he sat down on his couch, lit another cigarette, then hucked a couch pillow at her face with a simple flick of his wrist. In actuality, the act was an invitation that she make herself at home, as he was offering her the most comfortable piece of furniture in the room. Despite his reputation for being a ladies man, he was actually quite innocent when he came to such things, the reason being that he couldn't hide scars from anyone he was intimate with.
As he eased into the furniture and took a drag, Nanashi leaned forward, resting his elbows on the stretch of leg just above his knees. Lacing his fingers, Nanashi blew a puff of smoke past his lips, shut his eyes and let out a sigh. His expression had softened, mostly because he didn't handle crying very well. "I think you're lucky. Would you like to know why? It's because you can escape from all of that. Mean parents, arranged marriages, horrible birth fathers. Ya got away, didn't you? You're a Shinigami now, ya live away from home, ya certainly don't got to marry anyone anymore, and you're dead so there's not much of anything some human can do to ya. Like I said, lucky. Me, ojō-sama... As for me, I have to live with the inescapable burden of having absolutely no idea of who I am, where I came from or how I died. I don't know anything.
Did I have caring parents? Did I have a big brother who used to tease me when I fell over? Did I have a baby sister that I raised like my own child because my parents were never around? At least... at least you have an idea of those things, and can reject them if you find that you don't like them." Pulling his cigarette from his lips, he ashed it, returned it, then leaned back, tilted his head towards the ceiling, and exhaled. "I'll tell ya, ojō-sama; I ain't got nothing to reject. I can't ever change this amnesia. Maybe one day it will wear off, but it's not an option, I don't have the luxury to run away from it. It's permanent..." Moving his feet to the table, he propped them up and fell silent for a moment, then spoke up again. "Well, that's all I had to say. Feel free to leave, sleep, shower, eat, do whatever you want. I'm not mad, so do as you please."
[I was expecting the anger. It was either that or she just broke down and got all soft on him and nurtured him. Which ain't Zume, so the choice was obvious.] ...Ara?___

You…what…” she gasped, slightly embarrassed by the fact that she had been caught crying and struggling slightly as she was literally being dragged somewhere. She was still attempting to get free but when she was gently flung onto his bed, she scrambled to make herself look as if she wasn’t crying and as if she was absolutely fine. To be blunt, that was a little hard to do when one’s hair was slightly dishevelled and one’s eyes were red around the edges. What was she doing here? Pure confusion entered her mind as she threw a puzzled look in Nanashi’s direction. While an idea of what he might be intending to do, came into her mind, she brushed it aside as soon as he sat down on her couch. Firstly, he was mad at her, so he was definitely not going to be thinking of those things and secondly, this was absolutely something that he didn’t seem like he would do.
As he threw the pillow, it hit her full on the face and she rushed to remove it, trying to make herself seem less shocked and less like a complete idiot. Despite the fact that she knew that she was most likely in trouble for what she had said to Nanashi, she raised an eyebrow about the fact that he was smoking. Smoking had been found to be pretty bad for the lungs, or at least, that was what she had heard from the others. Alright, alright, maybe it might be best if she backed off a little bit with her judgemental nature. Scolding herself for doing such a thing, she drew her legs close to her body, eyeing Nanashi with a mixture of confusion and surprise. She knew that he was most likely going to talk to her about something, since he hadn’t really done anything otherwise. Listening, she absent-mindedly fiddled a little with the pillow, since it was really the only thing that she could play with for the meantime while she was nervous. As he finished what he apparently wanted to say, a pitying look came upon her face and she looked at Nanashi with new eyes.
“I’m really sorry about your amnesia…and your situation,” she muttered, unsure of what one said to a person who had basically nothing in their life. From his perspective, yeah, she was pretty lucky as she had been able to get away from that. She shuddered to think of the people that hadn’t managed to do that. Curiosity overwhelmed her at that moment and she blurted out, “Your wounds…couldn’t any of the Squad Four healers do anything about it?” She clamped her hands over her mouth, cursing herself for letting her words get away with her again and bringing up something that he was most likely very uncomfortable with. “I’m sorry for being so inquisitive…it’s just that…I would have thought that they would have been able to do something about it…does it hurt?”

315 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō "It's all right, you don't have to apologize." He answered, waving his right hand dismissively as he stood. Hearing his stomach emit an audible growl, Nanashi decided to stop ignoring the hunger that he had been putting out of his mind for a while now. Gliding over towards the kitchen, Nanashi stopped when he noticed that Sōshinome was still sitting in the chair. "Ehh..." Hooking his foot under the bottom of the chair, he gently kicked it up, causing the katana to pop up into the air along with the chair. As he jumped up, he spun to the side and kicked the katana across the room where it landed on a wall-mounted display, and slid into place just as Nanashi reached out, caught the chair, set it up right and gently slid it back in it's place, only to stride into the kitchen as though nothing had happened. Meanwhile, from the katana came the not-so-amused tone of Sōshinome himself. "Insolent twerp! How dare you just kick me like that! I am not a ball to be kicked!" Nanashi, however, did not seem to notice this voice.
As he busied himself with gathering ingredients for curry, he responded to her question with an amused tone and a smirk on his face that remained hidden due to his back being turned as his head being in cabinets. "Ara? What's this; Ojō-sama is showing concern? Interesting development." Grinning, Nanashi turned to the stove to heat the oil and add rice to water, then boil it. Oil heat and the rice cook, he turned, wiped his hands on a dishtowel, and looked in her direction. "Nah, they don't hurt since they're old. Hakase-Sōtaichō and Hakase-taichō did their best, but apparently my wounds were dealt with too late, thus I have these scars. Do they bother you? You can run out screaming if you wish." ...Ara?___

However, he did seem hungry, to tell the truth, and at least, it gave her some time to think while he went to cook something for himself in the kitchen. She was toying with the pillow at the moment, not really doing anything else. Maybe it might be better if she took a shower a little later on, as she had been in such a rush this morning that it had completely slipped her mind. But for now, she wasn’t exactly going to shower in Nanashi’s place or whatever, as that was just a little…awkward. It wasn’t like he was going to do anything to her, from his obvious actions and the fact that she had managed to annoy him, but still, a girl showering at a guy’s place, was strange. Brushing that thought from her mind, Nanashi’s zanpakuto spirit spoke and she cringed slightly. Strong-willed and stubborn spirits were always the worse to deal with, especially those with pride.
His amused tone started to get on her nerves again, but she calmed herself, holding back the words on her tongue with difficulty. No wonder her parents always found it hard to keep her under control, since it was so hard for her to even keep herself in line. He seemed to have done away completely with the other embarrassing and ridiculous nicknames, like princess, little girl and darling. “I-I-I-It’s just that…” she protested faintly, closing her mouth as soon as he looked in her direction. There was a high chance that if she attempted to defend herself, she might end up offending him again. She was really wondering at this point in time, what she should call him, since he apparently did not have a name and it would be rude to ask what to call him. “I’m not going to run out screaming,” she scowled slightly at the idea that she might do a ‘girlish’ thing like that, although she had noticeably flinched at the memory of the wounds, “…is that how most girls react to it?” Since he was a flirt from what she had managed to get from him so far, it was quite safe to assume that she wouldn’t be the first one, except for the Hakases, to have seen those wounds.

Turning away, he began adding various spices to the oil, carefully measuring the correct amounts before adding them. Once this task was completed, he began to saute some ginger, onions, and garlic in the hot oil, then added some beef to the mix. Now that the curry was done, he put some the rice into two bowls, put some curry on top, then walked one of the bowls over to Suzume, setting it down on his nightstand on top of a hot plate. Pointing to it, he handed her a fork, and mouthed the word "eat," the walked over to his couch where he sat down and looked to her smiled. "But hell, what do you expect me to think? That you're going to run over, kiss my wounds and tell me they look sexy? They're grotesque, I understand that. That's why I don't show them off." Nodding, he turned away and downed his meal in a matter of a few minutes.

Alright, that was strange. She was the first one to see them? Wow. Then again, he most likely hadn’t been meaning to let her see it, as she had walked in on him resting. Who would want to show a person who irritated the hell out of them? Hopefully, he hadn’t seen the fact that she was so surprised, since it might be an insult. Luckily, he had gone back to preparing whatever food he had been making before, so he couldn’t see the fact that she was literally kicking herself for such a mistake. Accepting the fork with a grateful smile, she instead twirled it in her hands, listening and thinking to what Nanashi had said. Almost absent-mindedly, she took a mouthful of the curry. The taste was exquisite, she had to admit, and he wasn’t a bad cook. To tell the truth, half the time her food comes out burnt, so it was pretty nice to be able to taste something relatively ‘homemade’. Gulping down and making sure that her mouth had no food in it, she said, attempting not to seem like she was lying, “They’re not that bad…really.” While it was sort of not telling the truth, she still felt like she had a duty to reassure him that it wasn’t that bad.

258 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō Setting his bowl down on the table in front of him, he picked up a cigarette, put it to his lips, cupped his hands around it with the lighter in his left, and lit it. Inhaling, he set the lighter down, stood up, and walked over to the end of the bed and sat down. He kept his back to her for the time being, maybe because he didn't want to meet her gaze, or maybe for another reason. "Don't lie, Ojō-sama, it's unbecoming. It's all right though, you seem strong, so you'll get used to it after a while. I did, after all." While he wasn't particularly smart in regards to most things, he was very aware of how unappealing his scars were, and thus knew she would only truthfully say that if she cared so much for him that they could be turned into something that she found attractive in him. It was either that or she would have to be someone like Asami who didn't mind scars because they were expected in the 11th. Suzume, who was neither of these, was obviously not telling the truth. This was not a fact that bothered him, however, as he expected as much. Exhaling, he sent a stream of smoke out of his pursed lips, then flopped back onto his bed, staring at the ceiling. His bed was rather large as he tossed and turned a lot, so he was roughly three feet away from her instead of being right at her legs. "So... wanna do something?" ...Ara?___

Trying to make him feel better had just ended up with her being unbecoming apparently. Maybe she wasn’t such a good liar as she thought she was, or Nanashi was simply better at seeing through people’s elaborate lies. How long had he lived like that? Not knowing one’s past and having to cope with injuries like these? She sighed, realizing the fact that she was being more lenient on him than the other males she had ever met. Then again, she argued to herself, anybody would have to be heartless to be harsh on him after they heard his heartbreaking past. An angry look appeared on her face, but as soon as she glanced in Nanashi’s direction, the expression on her face softened. It wasn’t good for her to keep on blaming everybody around her for her own problems. If it wouldn’t scare or give the wrong message to him, she would have screamed in frustration, since it was so difficult to realize one’s own flaws and faults. No wonder she had been considered not suitable to be part of an arranged marriage. Polishing off the rest of the curry, she gently placed the now-empty bowl on the nightstand, taking care since it was not exactly her crockery that she was dealing with. It took her a few seconds and some careful shifting so as not to disturb the bed too much, but soon enough, she had placed her hands on either side of his head, looking at him upside-down as she tilted her head to one side. She hadn’t noticed that a light pink blush had entered her cheeks as she stared at him. “What is there to do?” she asked curiously, her eyes fixated on his face.

239 Nąηąsнι Jūichibantai Fukutaichō Blinking, Nanashi looked up into Suzume's eyes as she hovered over him. Lifting his hands, he latched onto her face and shook it from side to side playfully. "What I'd like for you to do is to not do that, it makes it hard for me to be civil with you." Grinning, he let out a small laugh at the idea of how unnaturally cute she was being. He might have been able to actually like her, but he found it hard to remain attached to anyone. Releasing her face, he pushed her away gently, sat up, and slid off the bed, only to stand up and adjust his clothes. "We could go to West Rukongai and see Mt. Koifushi. Or perha-" His sentence was cut short as he suddenly felt a Reiatsu signature that belonged to no Shinigami. He could feel it pretty well, even all the way over here, which meant the opponent was probably strong. The signature was coming from Sōkyoku Hill and he remembered who he left there and it certainly didn't seem to be enough to combat a person who could exude this much power. "I guess our appointment will have to wait, ojō-sama. It appears we're probably needed. Shut the door on your way out." Running his finger along the current underside of Sōshinome's saya, he flicked the katana up into the air, caught it, and vanshed with a Shunpo.

xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx【 SUZUME CHIYOKO 】 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLoneliness hit me suddenly, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxbut it’s only t h e n that I realized, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxafter all that I have ever DREAMED of, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI really don’t like F I G H T I N G ✿✿✿ Suzume nearly fell as he put his hands on her face, barely managing to keep her balance. She scowled at him slightly, as he firstly touched her face and then decided to start teasing her or something to that effect. Biting her tongue down again, she peered into his eyes. To tell the truth, Nanashi had been the most agreeable male she had met so far, even after she had given him a lashing, but unfortunately, around him, it seemed like her feministic nature wanted to wreck and ruin everything as per usual. Sighing slightly, she rolled over onto her back, listening as he mentioned something about going to West Rukongai and seeing Mt. Koifushi. Ah, that would be pretty nice actually, since she really needed some sort of time to be able to think to herself. A small smile appeared on her face, but she was jolted upright by some presence of Reiatsu, which was so powerful that she could feel it from here. Tentatively checking it, she noticed the fact that it did not seem to be of an ally or a Shinigami at all. Damn it. Watching the spot which Nanashi had vacated, she shook her head in a few seconds, pulling herself up. “Time to go to work again,” she mumbled to herself. Shooting one last glance at the empty curry bowls on the table and the nightstand, she rolled her eyes, making a promise to come back and make sure that everything was clean. Hurrying out of the room, she shut the door with a snap, before shunpo’ing away to Sōkyoku Hill.
