Keynada giggled as the ocean surf sprayed at her toes, backing up slightly so that it didn't quite reach the sand she was standing on. The summer day was cooler than it had been, so she felt less desire to actually get wet than just to play with the water. Something about the ocean was just so wonderful, she always found herself spending her days next to it or in it. Fish tasted far better than woodland creatures anyway, so there was really no reason for her to ever leave the ocean side. As the wave that had been reaching for her backed down into the sea again, Keynada pranced forward once more, play bowing momentarily to the sparkling surf.

Vine sniffed the air a bit more. Ocean air had a lot more salty smell to it, but the unique scent of it was just something he was even more curious about. Somehow today he had managed to wander to the beach while following a small red thing that moved sideways. What were those called again? He thought to himself as he looked around.
This was the first time he had ever been to the beach so he wanted to take in the sight. With the warm sand under his paws, the sun shining brightly above, he wondered how he could have missed this in the first place. Suddenly he heard some giggling. Snapping out of his own thoughts, he looked around until he saw another saigh, female, playing with the water. He cocked his head to one side a bit, wondering what she was doing. He continued to look at her, curious as to why she wasn't going into the water.

While she was play bowing to the water again, a wave moved a bit more quickly than Keynada had expected and the brown female found herself with a nose full of water. "Eeee!" She squealed and laughed and shook her head to try to push the water out of her nostrils. Sitting back on her haunches and bapping at her nose with her front paws didn't seem to help much either, but it did change the angle of her vision enough for her to catch a glimpse of a dark brown spot to her side. Flipping her head around to look at the new Saighneian, a large grin spread across the young adult's face, the discomfort of the water completely forgotten. Raising her right front paw she waved over at him, "Hello there! Come to enjoy the beach too?" She always approved of Saighneian that liked the beach after all.

Vine continued to stare at the other's antics until he was finally snapped out of it by the female talking. "Uh... I guess. I just happened to come here today. It looks great though!" He said smiling back. He walked a bit closer to her, looking at the beach a bit. He could see more than just the yellow sand under his paws. He also saw lots of colors. He curiously poked one of them to find a shell hidden underneath the sand a bit.
Finally he came to a stop, closer to the female. He could get used to this place.

Keynada tilted her head a bit at the other's hesitation, who could be hesitant about liking the beach? I mean, sure, she knew that there were Saigh who didn't like it much, but that was probably just because they had never been to the beach during the summer! But now that this male was here, he should have no question in his mind about how wonderful it was! She would have to investigate this strange behavior further.... She sat happily watching him as he explored, turning over a shell, oh a pretty shell! Getting to her feet and stepping closer to him so she could examine the shell, Keynada said, "Ooh! That is pretty! You're lucky, finding pretty shells on the beach can be hard sometimes, but the first one you found was pretty!" Using her paw to overturn another one that was broken, she spoke again, "See, a lot of them get broken and aren't as pretty...."

"Really? Guess I am lucky then." He replied, looking from the shell he had found to the one she had just turned over. "Actually, I've never been to the beach before, so I'm just curious about it. It's in my nature." He said, embarrassed. Sometimes his curiosity had gotten him into trouble and he hadn't quite gotten past the curiosity stage. He looked at the female again. "I haven't introduced myself but I'm Vine."

Keynada nodded thoughtfully, "Yeah, I guess so...." At his next statement though, she was shocked, "What?! You've never been to the beach, what do you do instead of go to the beach?" She simply couldn't fathom a nice day without being at the beach, it just sounded so depressing....
Her short moment of despair, however, was ended when the male introduced himself, "Oh! It's nice to meet you Vine, I'm Keynada!"

"I was actually raised in the plains and have really just been satisfying my curiosity so far." He said, smiling. He nodded at her when she introduced herself. "That's a great name." Vine was about to say more when he was splashed by a wave of water. Since he had been distracted he had not noticed it and jumped a little in surprise. He then tried to shake off the excess water.

Keynada's eyes widened as he spoke of his birthplace, "Oh! Well, that makes more sense. My parents both loved the ocean, so we never went far from it, even in the winter, we just went a bit further towards the forest and denned there when it got too cold. There are all sorts of great things to eat in the ocean that you can't find in the plains I hear. I've never actually been very far inland, since I don't like to sleep in the grass, it's all pokey." She made a face at the memory of the only time she had tried to nap in the flowing green grass of the plains. It looked so nice from far away, but the sand was much more comfortable in her opinion.
A slight blush came to light on Keynada's cheeks at the compliment, and she giggled a bit, but then she was quickly distracted by a splash of water on her legs, and she burst out laughing as the dark brown male was surprised by the same wave. Instead of trying to shake herself off, Keynada bounded a bit deeper into the surf and used a paw to splash more water at Vine, "Aw you big baby! It's just water!"

"I grew up on it so it feels okay to me. Though I must admit that the sand is much softer." He replied. He tried to glare at her when she called him a "baby" but it turned out to be more of a confused scrunched eyebrow look. Leaning back as the water hit him, he smirked and jumped in the water, trying to splash more onto Keynada. "Here, you can have some too!" He said, laughing and splashing her some more.

Keynada didn't acknowledge his compliment to the sand, but she felt like it was a personal compliment to her since she was of course a representative of the sand, and so a happy little smile flitted across her features, that was of course right before she got splashed in the face with water. Squealing with delight at the cool splash, she licked the salt off of the fur around her mouth and grinned, "Why thank you! So nice of you to join me!" And with that she pushed off the muddy sand under her back paws and pounced on him, trying to wrassle the larger male under the water, "Here, have some more!"

Vine could barely open his eyes in surprise before the female was on top of him, pushing him down into the water. Smiling he tried wiggling out from under Keynada, until he had an idea. He ducked under the water a bit, hoping to catch her off guard and swam behind her.

"Hehe!" Keynada had obviously not had a serious attempt to hold her new playmate underwater, and so she very easily tumbled off of him into the shallow water as he wiggled out from under her. She giggled some more as she played in the water a bit, not paying much attention to what Vine had decided to do, since she was simply enjoying the feel of the water sinking into her fur. The air was so warm, but the ocean was always comfortable, no matter how hot the temperatures got, she absolutely loved it.

As soon as he thought he had the chance he jumped up behind Keynada and pushed his paws down on her back. "Payback" He yelled while laughing. He wasn't pushing that hard, he didn't want to hurt her after all.
After only a few seconds though he got off of her and started to swim. He was curious about how the water felt and it was good on a sunny day like this.

The female let out a very cub-like squeal as she felt paws on her back. She had no problem with dunking under the water though, so she let herself be pushed down, holding her breath and shaking her head under the water to really get the cool liquid to sink into her fur. It would take most of the afternoon to dry out, but she didn't really care if she ever dried, the water was better anyway. Even after the pressure on her back had disappeared, Keynada lingered in the ocean's embrace. Only when her lungs started to complain to her did she surface and look about for her playmate.
She couldn't help but grin as she watched the brown male swim around. The ocean was wonderful, but she sometimes wondered if she liked showing the ocean to others more than just swimming on her own. It seemed so silly that so many Saighneian had never ventured to the coast, they just didn't know what they were missing.
