User Image Ayidan picked his way along the edge of the river, lost in thought. It'd been a nice day, and he was heading home. He'd enjoyed his day's explorations. His short tail swished side to side, and a few leaves fell, having gotten caught as he went around. He wasn't too worried, they'd be groomed out soon enough.
He glanced at the sky, noting just a hint of the shades of sunset. It would be true sunset soon, and he'd want to be sure to be in a clearing, so that he might enjoy the best of it. He loved a good sunset, all the colors brightening up the sky. It made him smile. He loved a good sunrise, too, though he often missed those, since he slept through them. A passing dragonfly caused him to smile, and then wonder for a moment what his daughter was up to. Surely she was having a nice day too, it was too lovely out for her to not!

User ImageAyita was near to the river; she figured it'd be a good place to graze, with water close by. Looking to the sky, she took note that she'd be needing to head to an area that was more familiar to her. Due to Ayita's shy and skittish nature, she preferred being somewhere familiar to her; an area that would have the few soquilis that she actually knew. With that thought, the mare gave a sigh. She knew she needed to meet others, but to her it was just so hard!

Edging closer to the river, Ayita took a sip of the cool water, before quickly looking up. On the other side of the river was a stallion. Interest piqued, with shyness still in tact, Ayita stuck to her side of the river, but silently followed the male who was headed towards the clearing. She was curious, the only males she'd met had been flutters, aside from Niko; but he was related to the flutters, so he didn't count in her opinion. Cocking her head, she wondered what the pondering stallion was thinking about.

Pausing for a drink from the river, Ayidan sighed happily. Fresh, delicious water, delightfully cool... Wonderful. He took a nice long drink, then lifted his head. As he started to turn to head up the river farther, he paused. Was that a flash of movement he saw? He went still, looking thoughtful, as he tried to decide what to do. Was it just coincidence? Finally, he shrugged a little and decided to keep moving... But subtly, he glanced to the other side to see if he was right.

AH there we go. Now he saw her. There was a mare over there! He slowed and turned to glance at her. Now what? He studied her, shyly. She was certainly pretty, but that wasn't really that important. He didn't KNOW her, and as usual, his crippling shyness made him nervous and unsure. Nonetheless, he took a deep breath, and called out "Hello...?"

Pausing when he paused, Ayita was trying to be careful. Admiring the stallion from her side of the river, she was a bit amused by his mane and part of his tail being more of a milk chocolate brown and the rest of him being white and a darker shade of brown.

Strolling along at a semi-slow pace, Ayita froze when she saw him glance in her direction. Maybe he didn't notice me? she thought, but the thought perished quite quickly when she heard his timid and questioning 'hello'. Maybe he was just as she was? Either way, Ayita knew she had to answer him, he'd spotted her, and called her out. Hoping that he wasn't angry, she sighed heavily.

"Uh...uh...uhm...hi?" It took her a few tries to get the simple 'hi' out. Her voice was extremely light, and she barely heard herself say it. Shaking her head head, she tried once more. "Er...hi." It wasn't too loud, but he'd certainly be able to hear what she said this time.

Sidling in place, the white and blue-grey stallion studied her for a long moment, then finally said "W...w...what br... br... brings you out this w... w..way?", just loud enough she could hear him over the noises of the river. He noted the way she reacted, as he noted how she had to try to get her greeting out. She seemed to have a bit of shyness going on as well... How he sympathized!

He glanced at the river, and for the first time in his life... He frowned at it. This was going to be awkward, trying to converse across a river. Noisy thing that it could be... He studied it, thinking heavily, then he smiled a bit, and added "A... actually... Duh... do you wh...wh... want to go upriver a bit? I kn...know a spot that's slower, one of us co...co...could maybe cr...cross and w...we could talk easier?" He was trying to make a friend, yes he was! He felt proud of himself, working around his shyness like this.

Eyes lighting up, Ayita grinned. He was shy, too! It'd be nice to not be the only one stumbling over her words, for a change. She looked upriver when he'd mentioned it before turning back to him.

"T-th-that cou-could w-w-wwork..." she nodded to the male on the other side, before heading upstream a bit. Remembering his first question, she turned towards him, checking to see if he was walking upstream, as well.

"W-wwell, th-there w-w-was ph-food...a-a-and w-wa-water. Ya-you?" The river was a bit quieter, so she hoped he'd heard her fine...over her stuttering, of course. Sometimes, she really wished she wasn't so shy. It'd make talking to someone so much easier. At least the stuttering would go away once she got to know someone.

Ayidan blinked in surprise at the other's grin. Well something seemed to have pleased her. He then nodded at her words and moved up river, towards the ford he knew of. His short tail was flagged, so that the hair streamed behind him as he moved. He was enjoying the soft breeze on his skin.

"Ye...yes it should work well." He was able to focus on the running, which made the stutter lower. Distractions, that was the ticket! He kept an eye on her, making sure she was keeping pace, and also checking for the ford as they went.

"I wa...was heading home. M...my family's teepee is th... this way." He nodded in the direction they moved. "I fi...figured it was a good time to head back."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:29 pm

She nodded in understanding. It was slowly starting to get dark, and the way she saw it? It was a good idea to be somewhere safe by the time it was dark.

"The t-two le-legger who g-gr-grooms me...h-her teepee...th-there's a f-family w-who l-lives there, too." The other family that lived there were a family of primarily flutters- only one in the family had no wings.

Looking ahead, Ayita was curious about where the ford was; it had to be soon.

"S-so, w-where's the f-ford?" she was curious, and still learning the lands. She shook her head, getting her forelock out from in front of her eyes. With a clear vision, she looked about, noting the colours in the sky.

Ayidan sighed at the word 'groom', obviously thinking of how good a nice brushing would feel. "Gr...grooming's nice... I...if you need a place to stay ton...tonight, si...since it's getting dark, I'm su...su...sure my da...daughter and hu...human wont mind." He nods. "She's re...really very good with the c...cu...curry comb..."

Ayidan slowed and nodded as they got to a point the river was rather wider then what they'd passed, but as a consequence, the water level was lower, and for this stretch, somewhat slower. "Ri... right here. W... we're here." He moved to the edge of the water and nodded at the spot across from him. "I...i...if you enter the water there..." He moved upstream about 5 yards. "... a...a...and aim to try to e...e...exit here, it should be r...re...really easy. M...my human's teepee is on th...this side of the ri...ri...river."

He moved back a bit, and stood, ready to enter and help her IF she needed it. He doubted she would, healthy young mare that she was, but he figured it would be best to be ready... Even the strongest needed help sometimes.

"Da-daughter? Is s-she g-grown?" Ayita hoped she didn't sound rude, she was just curious. Plus, if his daughter was a foal, Ayita wouldn't know how to react; she'd never been around kids. Going back to his original offer, Ayita nodded.

"Th-that'd b-b-be nice. It'd b-be ea-eas-easier t-than going all t-the w-w-way ho-home." She gave him a small smile. "M-my t-two legger is g-good wi-with th-the d-dandy brush!"

Slowing down, Ayita looked at the water, before following the stallions instructions. Going up stream a few yards stepped into the water and stood for a moment to adapt to the temperature. Once she was acclimated to it, she stepped in a bit further, pausing every so often to adjust to the temperature once more. The water came up to just above her girth before it evened out. Thinking it wasn't so bad, Ayita slowly started walking further out into the river. Majority of the way through, the mare reared up and charged out of the water while screeching.

"IT BIT ME!!!!!!" It'd been a fish that had nibbled on her, but Ayita didn't know that. It'd startled her and so she hauled her way out of the river as quickly as she could. Once the words left her mouth, she realized that she was on the other side, and that she hadn't stuttered. Turning to the stallion, she gave a sheepish grin.

"U-uh...I m-ma-made it?"

"Oh ye... yes, quite grown." He sighed, almost wistfully. "The...they grow so fast..." He smiled a little. "Ta...takes after her mother, bouncy, ch... cheerful, and not even a bit of shyness to her that I've e...ever seen!" His stutter was slowly clearing up... It always did as he got to know some one. It was the only good side to it.

"Well th...then! You are welcome, an...and then some. There are pl...places enough for all." He nodded at her, then waited quietly until she began her crossing.

When she reared and screeched, he jumped and landed in a defensive pose, expecting her to be followed by some great evil. When he realized it was just her, he looked confused for a moment. Her words cleared it up for him, and he hid the urge to laugh. "It w...w...was probably a fish... I...i...it wouldn't h...hurt you, though." At her last words, he nodded. "We...welcome across... I am A...A...Ayidan... What is your na...name?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:00 pm

"O-oh? I have no k-kids." By the time she'd found the two legger she liked, all the foals had already grown up. "N-not s-shy? Lucky her!" She was relieved that it was going away. They were both slowly opening up a bit more and it was helping.

"Oh." Hearing that it was probably just a fish, Ayita felt a bit foolish for her drastic reaction. "T-thank y-you! It's n-n-nice to me-meet you, Ayidan. I a-am Ay-Ayita." She gave a smile at Ayidan, happy to finally know his name, instead of just thinking of him as a stallion that she was speaking with.

"Well perhaps y... you will find a s... stallion you want children with s...someday and will have y... your own." He nods, and flashes her a kind smile. "A...and yes, sh...she is very lucky. Sh...she makes friends easily." He bobbed his head.

At her name, however, he blinked, startled, his head pulling back, his eyes wide. "A..Ayita? S... seriously?" He was quite visibly startled. That was... his own Mother was named Ayita. He'd never met 2 Soquili of the same name before. He was sure it happened but... It was such an unexpected coincidence. "Wow..."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:25 pm

"Perhaps. B-but, not yet. I'm not r-ready for my own ch-children..." But, it was true, she did hope to have her own kids, one day. "Th-that seems like it w-would be n-nice...to make fr-friends so e-easily." She nodded in agreement.

"Yes, s-seriously." She was curious about his reaction; all she had said was her name, but going by his reaction, you'd think she'd done something silly. His reaction was quite amusing, though. "Ayita h-has always b-been my name...for as long as I c-can remember, at least."

"No...nothing wrong with waiting til yo...your ready. Everything's right w...with it, to me... So ye...yeah." He nodded, then sighed wistfully. "Ye...yes, I envy her tha...that skill."

His surprise hadn't gone away, and he flushed, realizing he probably looked stupid. "We...well... you see... Ay... Ay... Ayita is also the name of my m... mother." He pawed the ground, awkwardly. He felt like a dork for being so very surprised, but really, he hadn't expected to have that name be hers. For one thing, she looked nothing like his mother, and really, wasn't much like her in other ways.
