Name: Layla Age: 21 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Healer Rank: Journeyman
History: Layla was born and raised in Fort Hold. Her mother, a Journeyman Beasthealer, and her father, a Senior Journeyman Healer at the Hold, raised their four daughters and lone son with the love and adoration for the healing craft. She had worked as an unofficial apprentice, aiding her parents as they healed all types of beasts and humans alike, since the moment she could walk. Despite her love for the craft, she did not become officially apprenticed at Healer Hall until she was 10 years of age. There, Layla dove into her studies with a fervor that even her teachers were astonished at. With seven years of only theoretical experience in the field under her belt, and her new rank of Journeyman, Layla transfered to Telgar Hold to expand her horizons as a Healer and to have a chance to apply all the skills she had learned. Here, she worked mostly with animals who did not equate her young face with horrid skills, as so many of the human patients had done. She toiled in the Hold for four years, tending all manners of beasts, and loved every bit of her life. Every once in awhile, she was called upon to aid a human patient, but these instances were few and far in between. It was harder for her to relate to her human counterparts than it was to relate to her animal ones. Her curiosity and interest peaked by all the wonders that Weyrlife offered as she spied the great dragons fly overhead. It wasn't long before she asked for a transfer, and got accepted, into Telgar Weyr to work as a DragonHealer. She quickly packed her things and entered the new world of the Dragonriders.
Appearance: Standing at 5'7", Layla is of slender build. Lilthly muscled and olive-tanned, Layla is athletic and spends a lot of her time out of doors. She is often seen wearing her waist-length brunette hair in a single plait at the base of her neck, though her shorter bangs often escape the plait to fall over her dark hazel eyes. She dresses casually, in natural colors, preferring the calming cool hues like blues and greens, which often have helped ease the nerves of her patients - both animal and humans alike.
Personality: Layla is a strong, organized and rational thinker. Her tendencies to analyze every angle of a situation often caused her to be slower to act. However, every once in awhile, she would recall older, outdated remedies that may work better in certain situations than the current cures used by the Healers. Though her pace has improved over the years through experience during her observations of her Masters and other Journeymen and her personal training in her studies and classes, Layla does not function well in emergencies. For how can she tell which treatment will work best unless she went through all the scenarios in her head first? She takes her job very seriously, and studies constantly as her curiosity often leads her to new knowledge in old archives, medicines, herbs, etc. Her main focus is to her craft, often to the detriment of any other aspect of her life. Aside from the occasional dalliance, Layla does not see the need for an extended net of friends or acquaintances. She is friendly, involved, and caring towards her patients, but once they are no longer in her care, she often forgets about them as people and begin to label them only by their illnesses. They serve only as case studies in her ever-long quest for information.
Other: Holderbred, many of the customs and livelihood of the Weyrs will be new to her and skewed, as will her conceptions of morality.

Moving Day, once again:
As my parents often impressed into all their family, it is important that we record our thoughts, our feelings, our work...anything that we feel is important, into the written word so that we may never forget. As our bodies age, our memories fade, but what is written lasts much longer than that. It stands the test of time, does not shift and change as they might if we rely solely on what we recall. It is there for others to learn from, even when we are no longer here to teach. It is a piece of us that we can pass on - to even people we've never met.
My parents have taught us to keep a running journal, for us to record anything and everything within it. It is important for us to be truthful in these records, to not let our emotions cloud the truth. As healers, this is even more important. It is our record of our work, our progress, our failures.
And so, my journal begins once more. I've others, of course, written during different segments of my life. I thought that I should start anew, however, now that my life is within the Weyr. It is a new chapter in my life and should be represented as such by a new record.
So that's where I should start I suppose. My first day at Telgar Weyr...
