A rolling grass plain with the wind blowing through the golden grass, trees randomly scattered about, and a small creek bubbling along in the distance. And, of course, as always. A small boulder for absolutely no reason. Maikeru hung upside down from a branch in one of the trees, flipping a coin up near his feet, and then catching it before it fell beyond his reach.

"Yo, long time no see Maikeru how ya been?" Zaine asked, kicking the tree to shake the shinigami out of it. "You hear to learn some kido I presume? Well what one do you wanna start with?" Zaine inquired, wanting to get this training started quickly, since becoming a Vice Captain he had become quite busy and wanted to get his paperwork done in a somewhat timely fashion.

"I've been quite good, Vin is awesome, she points out hot women Shinigami for me, what better Zanpakutou could a guy ask for?" Maikeru flipped the coin one more time and dropped from the branch. Twisting in the air he landed on the balls of his feet with a grin and snatched the coin from the air.
Maikeru made a small show of inspecting it for scuffs or damage of any kind. "Ehh, might as well start with the only Hado right? Bound lightning?" Apparently satisfied he slipped the coin into his pouch and stuffed his hands in his pockets looking at Zaine.

"That's great to hear, how has the squad been doing?" Zaine inquired with a grin to the shinigami, "And I hope you haven't been abusing your shikai, I'd hate to regret teaching ya it." he commented with a chuckle, "Besides don't think you won't be seeing me around, I'll still pop in from time to time." he said wryly.
He nodded when Maikeru stated the spell he wanted to start with, "Okay then, Hado #11 is a bit tricky since you have to have a medium through which you will transmit it into your target, here watch me." He commanded and withdrew a bandage from his cloak and tied it to a small dummy designed for this spell especially, "You have to transfer the spell through the object that is connecting you to your target so it takes some concentration to get it just right." He then gripped the bandage and muttered, "Hado #11 Tsuzuri Raiden!" an electrical current flew through the bandage and into the dummy, which exploded shortly after contact, leaving a smoking pile of cloth and wood in the dummy's place.

"Hunh, can I use anything? and do I have to be touching the medium the whole time? Or could I perhaps charge one my my knives and throw it at someone so it discharges into them when it strikes? Or would I explode if I tried that?"
Maikeru bent and snatched the bandage off the ground and promptly tied it to another dummy.
"I hate Kido, my reiatsu control has never been the best." Maikeru focused trying to bring his wispy and quiet reiatsu under control. For a few minutes it was as if he was grasping at the mist his reiatsu seemed to be composed of. He soon grew impatient, and without having enough gathered, forced what he could through the bandage and muttered, "Hado Number Eleven, Tsuzuri Raiden."
A small spark danced from his fist and fizzled out burning a small black speck onto the bandage a foot away from the dummy.

Maikeru's face twitched minutely in frustration as he mumbled to himself. He reached into a pocket and quickly squeezed a small tube of jell-o into his mouth. Swallowing it he took a deep breath and pushed his stress and tension away.
Taking up the bandage again he focused. This time instead of trying to snatch the reiatsu to control it he simply inhaled and brushed it in lightly. It filtered in quicker than he had anticipated, and he gasped, almost losing control. Bringing it back under control he focused on gently pushing it into the bandage. If reiatsu had a personality Maikeru's would be temperamental.
He finally succeeded in shepherding it into the bandage, and feeling more confident, said with more feeling this time, "Hado Number Eleven, Tsuzuri Raiden!" A bolt of electricity twined around the bandage and shot toward the dummy. A moment later it burst into flames.

Maikeru shook his head, coming out from the slight reverie he had entered. Realizing he hadn't answered Zaine's earlier questions he pondered for a second gathering his thoughts, "Yeah things have been, fun. I had a hallucination earlier about a hot shinigami lady in full armor. And Shikai abuse? nah, not me." Maikeru silently vowed to keep his nightly jaunts to the elemental wastelands slightly more secret. And quiet hopefully.

"So what? Now just the Bakudos left? Oddly enough, I'm not very interested in the big huge blasts of energy. I don't know why though..."Maikeru's voice trailed off as he pulled out a knife from his sleeve and balanced it by the tip on the ball of his finger.

"Good work man" Zaine commented with a grin, "You'll need to practice a bit more but still not too bad for a first try. That Kido does stump people from time to time since it does require something that a lot of other don't require, channeling reiatsu through an object. Lucky for you, the next Kido doesn't require that. Actually, it doesn't require that much control. You will learn Bakudo #21. That spell will require you to channel your reiatsu into your palm and rapidily release it in the form of smoke. Since it's a smokescreen, you don't need accuracy or aim to use it correctly. Here, let me show you."
Zaine walked few meters to distance himself from Mitch so that the trainee wouldn't have to breathe in the smoke on accident. Zaine breathed smoothly, and concentrated the reiatsu appropriately. "Bakudo #21 Sekienton!" he then smacked the ground hard with his right hand. Dark smoke exploded from upon upward upon impact and completey obscured Zaine as well as a good portion of the space around him. "Show me what you got." Zaine commented as the smoke cleared from around him.

"Sweet! Ninja teleportation technique! Woot!" Maikeru jogged a a few more meters away from Zaine. After a few moments of focusing his breathing and centering his stance he began focusing his reiatsu into his palm. Now...should I do it like a ball? a cylinder? A square? OOO a triangle!!! No, thats stupid.
This thought pattern continued for awhile as the reiatsu slowly took shape in his palm, shifting slightly each time he thought of a different shape. When it was in the shape of a cylinder he had somehow switched to trying to remember what the incantation was.
"Bakudo...Bakudo...Baskudo Number 16? No...Bakudo Number...21, yeah! 21! Bakudo Number 21...Senkienton?" As he was mumbling along trying to remember the name the reiatsu had built up to too great of a pressure in his palm. Once the name was uttered it exploded out, just as it was intended to. But whether it was lack of concentration, badly shaping the kido, not properly announcing the name, or a combination of all of them didn't matter. Instead of a nice calm cloud of noxious gas bursting out to surround him, it instead shot out in a high pressure pillar.
One second he was standing seeking to puzzle out the mysteries of the kido, the next he was hurtling high into the flipping back flip over back flip. Normally, Maikeru wouldn't have a hard time landing safely from such an incident. But he was still in shock from the miniature explosion that when he landed, it was as if he was belly flopping into the dirt.

(UGHH! Awesome post was lost! This one won't be as good...sorry, that one was epic too!))
Still facedown in the dirt, not having moved a single muscle, Maikeru said one word and a very important word it was, "Ow."
Less than a minute later his desire to be ninja as possible (Yes, that is an adjective now) had him back on his feet and dusting off his clothing.
Now, focus, don't think about the pretty red head you asked out, don't think about the plate of curly fries waiting for you at home, and certainly don't think about how weird it is seeing Zaine in a position of actual authority.
Maikeru took a deep breath...on second thought, lately deep breaths caused pain. He quickly expelled it and took a shallow breath instead. Focusing on the reiatsu in his body he felt it respond to his wishes and move towards his palm, it felt easier, like all the recent use had opened up some kind of channel for it to move more smoothly through.
After being sure it was shaped correctly, and he didn't have a bowling bowl of reiatsu in his palm he reared his hand up towards the sky. As he brought his palm down to slam against the ground he incanted, "Bakudo Number 21, Senkienton."
A handful of reiatsu, plus a nice application of force, all on a nice smooth surface resulted in one thing. A giant billowing cloud of smoke that absolutely refused to go away.
Minutes later it began to clear and Maikeru could be seen waving his hand, his eyes clenched shut, and coughing. In between losing one lung and the other he managed to get a few words out, "Forgot...To hold breath!"

He smiled, finally succeeding in banishing the persistent smoke. He was quite certain it was his frantic waving about, sadly in reality a strong wind had just blown by quickly and scattered the thick smoke relatively fast.
"So." He said with a huge grin plastered to his face, "what's next?"
