It had been awhile since Marie had last escaped from the clutches of her newly found family life. It had consumed her, not that she was complaining. Three beautiful children, A mate who seized the moment and always stood at her side. But this life was entering a stage where it began to take a toll on Marie. The failed attempts at more foals, her son coming out as gay, then her daughters never visiting... It all left Marie heartbroken.
She strolled along the sandy banks of a clear stream, carefully avoiding any patches of muck or mud in her path. She watched the reeds bend in the wind, the dragon flies zooming and zipping as if in an aerial ballet.
It's been so long since I've enjoyed something alone... It's almost sickening, I have no secrets. Life is an open book.
She stopped mid-stroll and gazed into the water, watching the catfish and trout fight the current, mesmerized by the secrecy of the world below.

Getting up from the water, Stef shook her body a little bit to get water off of her. She liked the water keeping her cool and clean, but she would not approve of any dirt that gets left behind with the water. Having clean fur was what she wanted and preferred.
Looking up at the sky through her shades, she sighed a little bit. She enjoyed being near water and land at the same time. Too much of either made her feel... Incomplete. She dug her hooves into the sand, feeling the warmth of that and the cool breeze blowing past her fins. She was really enjoying today.
Eventually, she started walking down the stream, following the fishes as they go. Stef remembered that some kepli ate these things... She's been curious, but never really got herself to try. Looking up, she saw a land Soquili, also staring at the fish and started walking closer to her.
"Hey you! Do you like the taste of these little critters?"

Marie snorted at the appearance of the Kelpi. She'd never met one personally, but throughout her travels she'd seen plenty.
"Goodness no, I'm just curious as to what it's like live under the water."
She bowed her head, then brought it back up and smiled.
"The name is Marie Von Helson, pleasure to meet you...?"
She trailed off with an inquisitive tone, the mare seemed to be young and lively, but there was something about her that seemed 'unique'. Not necessarily a bad thing in a world full of the same cliches that appear over and over.

Looking down at the fish in the water, she frowned a little bit. Sure, people called her outgoing, but still... Not that outgoing. She was happy with her seaweed and grass.
"Oops. I should of introduced myself first..." She tilted her head down and looked at Marie over her shades. "I'm Stef, or Stefanie. Nice to meet ch'ya, Marie!"
Stef finally realized that this land mare just said she was interested in the underwater world. She knew that Kelpis could love both land and water, but she thought that land and mers liked their environments and was kind of... unfriendly with the opposite kind. She tilted her head and looked at Marie with her right eye.
"You're actually interested in the underwater world?", she questioned. "I thought that land and water folk kept their worlds separate? I've seen a few get a long, but normally they prefer their own places. At least... I think? I've always thought there was more to see above the water though."
"See one underwater critter and you've kinda seen them all," she said jokingly.

Marie chuckled,
"There was once a time where I hated the different and the strange,"
She patted a hoof softly on the soft clay, leaving a bold hoof print.
"But when you're getting up in age, as I am... Tolerance is something learned. My mate, Kiun, He takes to the skies daily. My son, Lucifer, He is gay."
She smiled, a sparkle in her eye.
"No creature is the same, I believe. Every soul is different, all minds unique."
She shook her mane, sending the curls in her hair swinging to and gro.
"Care for a walk, Stefanie?

Looking at Marie, Stef couldn't see this mare being intolerable at all. She just seemed so gentle and interesting... just a feeling, anyways.
"Really? I honestly can't see being like that at all! I'm glad that you're okay with everyone now, and that you're enjoying your life." She looked at herself and swished her tail a little bit and giggled. "I don't think I can be counted as normal at all, with a tail, fins, and my fur. Hehe. I wonder what you would of thought of me before."
"I'll also gladly accept a walk with you," she said smiling. Stef started walking a little bit in front of Marie, but then it occurred to her... Marie had been staring in to the water and wondering about the life under the sea. Stef turned her head back towards her new aquaintance.
"Wait... Are you really happy about your land life? I can't help but feel something might be the matter since you're wondering about the life under water." It may of been out of plain curiosity, but if something was wrong, Stef didn't want to leave Marie by herself.
"I could tell you about it if you want."

Marie chuckled, "You're tail wouldn't made me call you a troutblood or salmon breathe. Something stupid and ignorant, of some sorts."
She looked up and smiled at Stefanie, "Everything on land is beautiful. I love my life... But I'm overwhelmed with life, it's a lonely life for a mare accustomed to foals, and then having to let them ago." She looked at the clay, subconciously draging her hooves back and forth, "And attempts at more...aren't exactly, fruitful."
"And a description of the aquatic world would be positively amazing, tell me everything~ The sights, smells, the works." She took a few steps to catch up to Stefanie with her last few words, as if to stimulate the actual walking to begin.

Stefanie stopped a little bit behind Marie and puffed out some air from her mouth and smelled it. "Hm... I don't eat trout or salmon. Hehe. I don't think I'd find "Seaweed Breathe" offensive though, because it's true!"
She laughed and went to catch up with Marie.
"I don't think I'd ever be ready for children. Seems like too much of a hassle. Glad you had fun with them though! At least you had some though, right?" She looked over at Marie and smiled. "I think, for me anyways, the experience would be enough. Not sure I'd like to try it more than once."
She went on thinking for a while. Would she even want kids of her own? "Marie seems to have had a good life with her significant other and kids. For me... Party hardy!"
(( Lolz. I'm pretty sure someone would smack some sense into her about wanting family later xD I remember you looking for a foal... I think (In the future) it would be interesting for Marie to meet Stefanie's foal sometime o: ))
"And about the land and sea.. Between the two... I really don't think there's much of a difference." She paused to organize her thoughts. "Above land, you see the brightness of the sun, feel the air against your coat, hear the sounds of the other animals, smell the earth, and taste the land."
"Under the water, you see the darkness of the water, feel the water against your coat, hear the serenity of the ocean, smell the fishiness of the sea, and taste the salt in the water. Now I somewhat feel like the land is better than the sea. I can't live without either though..."
"I really don't know what the difference is." Stef frowned a little bit. She hadn't spent enough time, with either land or water Soquili to really know. "I've seen so little of both..."

Marie chuckled, "Oh, you sound so much like me when I was younger.
I am blessed with this experience as a mother, three wonderful children, a doting mate. I shouldn't complain about not doing it twice."
[[Hah, I'd love to RP Stef and Marie a few more times in between that, kinda keep marie on track with stef~]]
The land and sea. "I see, it's not much different then," Marie pondered for a minute.
"I think then, I've unlocked the mystery then." She 'knew' the sensation of flying from descriptions from her mate, and now the sea was explained and made sense to her.
"Does it feel special? You know, feeling that you can bounce in between the realms of the earth and not worry about drowning or suffocating? I think I'd feel great."

"Very much agreed," she said with a smile. "I think having any experience just once is well worth it." Now, Stef couldn't tell if she was jealous of Marie's experience having a family. Maybe just wondering about the feelings...
"I would bring you underwater, but I think we'd only be able to go down for a short period. Even for me, I need to go up for air. The mer-folk probably wouldn't approve of it much."
The sensation I think you'd like most is the feeling of floating in water. It kind of feels like... you're weightless, in a sense. I'd guess it's similar to your mate and his ability of flight."
Her mind came back to relationships again though. Stef's always been doing her own thing, but now she was kind of curious to other things that she might do in her lifetime. "I know that I told you about the under water world, but may I ask how your life was? You experiences with your family and all, I mean."
They kept walking and Stef noticed the lake coming up, and Stef wondered. "Marie, would you like a sensation underwater? I'm pretty sure you can bite onto one of my fins on my back and we could go underwater for a bit."

Marie listened and closed her eyes, "It all seems so pleasant, the sights and sounds, and all the like of the merfolk."
She thought for a second, kicking a pine-cone gently out of her hair, speaking in a soft tone. "Being a mother? Hrm. It's... strange, at first. You feel as if you're body is being invaded by your very children inside of you, honestly. But after time, it's like you've bonded, you're children and you will share the same soul, the same likes and dislikes, everything. You are one being temporarily... And when you finally give birth, well, it's like your soul divided into these beautiful creatures. Instantly, I had met the truest loves of my life. Lorlin, Katrina & Lucifer, my beloved children. They are my foundation, while my mate are the walls keeping me safe from the outside world."
She grinned. "One day, dear. You'll find it, and you'll understand this all. The world works in mysterious and delightful ways, ways that will frustrate you. But never lose faith, the winds push you in the right direction always. Follow the tide in the water, if you must, it'll guide you."
She realized she sounded like a sage and stopped. "And that's how my experience has been, I suppose~" She chuckled and stomped on a few dried reeds, making them crunch under her hooves.

"The only bad thing about the Mer-folk or the Kelpi that prefer water is that... They don't integrate well with land Soquili." Stefanie sighed. She liked herself being different than both the Mer and Land Soquili and constantly wondered why being 'different' was bad to them.
Nonetheless, Stef cocked her head to the side, looked at Marie, and gave her a big smile. She was really happy that her friend no longer cared about the differences between Soquili and accepted them all as one; Marie's life with her family had opened her eyes to the world.
Stef wiggled her torso a little bit when she heard about how she might have Marie's experiences with family some day. "Hehe. I think... Maybe at the very end I might, but hey. Other Soquili find me 'different' from both the land and the water groups. I don't know if any would accept me for me."
She sighed a little but noticed that they were at the banks of the lake. Stef didn't want to think about being accepted by someone 'special'. She wouldn't change her ways for anyone. Her fins and tail made her who she is, and if someone didn't want her for all of her, she didn't want them either.
The sands of the lake were warm when Stef's hooves were on them. The feeling of being right in between her two homes made her relax.
"Up for a swim?"

Marie chuckled, "I can't count the number of times I thought that thought, Stefanie. But the day will come when you find the one. Don't let the thoughts of others ruin your parade. You march out there and close the doors behind you, and have your own private ball."
Marie looked over to the water. "A Swim sounds delightful, only up to my shoulders though. I'm not a good swimmer." She chuckled nervously at the Kelpi, hoping she wouldn't be disappointed in her. "Plus, my curls will frizz~" She winked at Stefanie. "A ladies gotta keep her looks, y'know?" She bounded towards the river, dipping her front hooves in, then inches in slowly. "The water is nice, not too warm, not too cool..."

"No one will ever bring me down!" Stefanie said loud and with a laugh. She was going to keep enjoying her land and water life. It was more awesome than anything else in life.
"Are you sure you don't want to try and put your head underwater at least? I think you can get the general feel of how it feels like to be underwater."
Stefanie walked slowly into the water. and kept going until the water was a little bit higher than her knees, she sat down, and let the water run through her coat and fins. It was refreshing for her fins after being in the sun for so long. She put her head slightly under the water, where only her ears showed.
"It looks nice under here..." She sighed as she stared at the clear blue water and the slight dim-ness of the sun.
Stefanie looked up again and shook off a little bit of the water on her face. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," she said, winking back at Marie.
"Sure you don't want to risk it? Promise I'll keep you safe if we go deeper!" Stefanie giggled.

"Okay, perhaps I'll get wet. Just this once though, for you, Stef." She stepped deeper, feeling the bottom of the stream slope downwards into ever deeper waters, until she could no longer stand on the bottom. She kicked her legs. Left, then right.
"This isn't too bad. I feel like I'm floating!" She laughed and dunked her head underwater, opening her eyes to see a blurry outline of the underwater world. She could see her curls float and sway as she moved. It was surreal, she'd never been the type to be so...adventorous. She came up for a breathe. "Wow, that's amazing!"
