With a loud thump, a little white blob crashed onto the ground in a roll. He shook his head, orchid eyes blinking for a moment before he took off running again with a big smile. Today was the best day ever! It wasn't very hot, and his parents had picked a spot by the river to stay, so he had all kinds of puddles and mud to play in. Safi did a body dive straight into a huge puddle, splashing filth all around him. It would have been nicer to have someone else to play with, but for now, it was nice to just be cool.

Nia yawned as she rolled over on her back in the rogue lands. Even before she had her precious cubs, the leopard had been on the run with her mate. Now though they were finally far enough away to not have to worry about things. Though Nia did spare a moment to wonder about her other cubs that weren't traveling with them. She just hoped that they were all okay.
Shaking her head, Nia returned to the present. A splash caught her attention and the amused leopardess found herself walking up the river towards a muddy blob. "Oh my. I hope that's not one of my cubs being a mess here."

Safi flipped around, impressively not loosing his footing in the loose earth. None of his white fur was visible underneath the thick layer of mud that ran off him like rain water. The only thing that was visible was his bright eyes.
They blinked to get rid of the mud, then looked up at Nia. "Nope! Iz a river monstuurrrrr~ Grrr!" He tried to pounce on his mother, only to stumble and fall flat on his face.

"Scary!" Nia laughed as she jumped back away from her son turned river monster. "Oooh!" Not one to overly baby her children, the leopardess took his fall as an opportunity to climb over his muddy body.
"If you're really a river monster, then I must get you back where you belong." She commented softly before nuzzling her cub tenderly. Pulling back she gave Safi a wide grin. "Then maybe I can get my dear Safi back!"

Safi pushed himself up, spitting out a mouthful of mud dramatically. He felt sluggish and embarrassed for having his mother see that, but the moment she nuzzled him a smile broke out.
"Dwaaa, momma, how'd you know?" He couldn't hide anything from his mother. That's what made her so super special awesome.

"How could I not? A mother always recognizes her child." Nia replied with a purr. The eyes and the spots of white of course were helpful hints. She laughed lightly before nudging Safi. "Come on."
Nia's tail flicked happily in the air behind her as she looked at the river. No giant lizards were nearby thankfully. Perfect. "Though -" She gave a playful shiver, "I don't know if you're really Safi under all this. So I can't take you back with me til I know for sure~"

Safi's rump went into the air before the rest of him. He tromped down to the river beside his mother, his steps clumsy and exaggerated because of the mass amounts of muck clinging to his legs.
The little leopon looked up at Nia, wide eyes giving a little shiver. She didn't know it was him?! "No, momma! Look, look see!" He broke into a muttled run, slipping and sliding until falling onto his back in the shallow end. Instantly the water changed colors.
Safi wriggled his paws and rolled up, his lower half still covered in mud, but his upper clean....mostly.

"Oh?" Nia laughed lightly before nodding, "I see, I see." He was so adorable. The mother in her purred happily before the leopardess patted her son. "Let's find the rest of you then, Safi." Swiping a paw through the water she splashed him and began to clean his fur off. Slipping into the river herself the leopardess shivered as the cool waters carressed her and soaked her fur. Seemed like it was bath time. Purring, the leopard attacked her son with licks.

At first, Safi protested and fought his mother with all of his cubbin might. With a mock growl, he scrambled after from the water with a sharp hiss. Then she started licking him, which warmed him and he calmed.
"Can you see me, mommy? Can you?" He looked up at her innocently, wanting to know with innocence that poured out of his every pore.

Oh he was a cute one. The leopardess grinned as her son protested at the touch of the cold water. But if he had his way then the cub would never be cleaned. She didn’t think a mud covered cub would be the best one to curl up around in the den. Though knowing the rest of the family they probably wouldn’t mind. She shook her head. Was it really that big of a chore to keep one’s fur cleaned? Especially with Safi, it would be a shame if his beautiful white fur was covered in muck. But with each lick of his fur the leopard could tell that her touch was finally calming him down. That was good. Nia finished cleaning the mud from her son before she smiled. "Yes, Safi I can see you clearly now." Purring she nuzzled him, "Finally I have my son back from the monstrous mud." Standing on dry ground, the leopardess flicked her tail behind her and started to shake the water from her body. With the ease of experience she cleared the muck from her own paws and flicked her tail once more for good measure. There. Nice and clean just like Safi. Though how long his clean fur would last she didn’t know. But she doubted that it would be that clean for long.
Finally finished, she nudged her son. "Come on. Let's get back to the den so your father or I can scrounge up some food." With that she started running back away from the river and towards their home.
