Runako was full of nervous energy as he paced in front of the temple. With time the young adult lion had finally gotten used to being in the pride and was finally taking another step - being a guardian. As he waited Runako went over important pieces of things from the lessons that he had been attending for the past couple of weeks.
There was just so much about this pride!
So much that he was still having to learn new things daily. Another reason that Runako found himself pacing nervously. Today wasn't just another lesson, it was his first day as a guardian.

Padding her way out, Ramla paused to glare up at the sky. "Aten shines bright today..." She let out a hmm, then continued on her way, soon reaching the lilac lion. "So, you want to be a guardian... Tell me something, do you know who our enemies within the lands are...?" She felt it an important thing to worry about, at least. If the pride weakened even a little, they would fall prey to their old enemies again.

"Ah, yes." Runako gave the lioness a nervous grin, "Our enemies within the land?" He repeated softly before looking around thoughtfully. Blinking the lion looked back at Ramla before giving his soft reply, "Invaders could be it, but they don't live within the lands. Are you - are you referring to vultures then?" He finally asked remembering a shard of history from one of his lessons.

The lioness' lips curled into a smile, as she paced around the male. "Right answer. The vultures are our enemies within the borders. Once upon a time, they grew so numerous, they over-ran the pride and drove most of the lions out. If you ask around, you'll find someone who'll likely remember those days." She paused, smiling softly. "I'm sure my papa-ma remembers..." Even knowing who her birth mother was, Ramla still chose to refer to Sepoko and Ilori as her parents. After all, they were who raised her.

Runako made a growling sound of disgust at the thought of the land being overcome by vultures. His gaze swept across the temple and instantly saddened as he just imagined what it might have been like back then when everything was chaos. Shaking his head, Runako looked back at Ramla.
"I'm sure I could." He gave a small smile as talking helped him to calm down more around the lioness, "You know, it's weird. Once I thought I knew lots, but once I joined this pride I began to feel like a cub who has just learned to walk."

"Never assume you know everything, somebody will always be there to prove you wrong." The lioness paused in her pacing, looking up at the temples around them. Silver eyes narrowed, glaring at the vultures eyeballing them, watching... Waiting... Planning... Ramla's lip curled back in a growl, before she roared at them, sending the birds flying away.

"Yes." Runako nodded before watching Ramla as she looked up at the temples around them. Vultures - she really hated them didn't she? With good reason too. Runako reminded himself of the pride's history before letting out his own roar after the birds.
Shyly he looked at Ramla, "So do we just keep them away or do we pest control the vultures too?" A shiver went through him. He was fine with killing the nasty birds, but never would he even think of eating one no matter how hungry he was!

"It's not just pest control..." She watched the birds fly off, then started towards the border. "There are still enemies outside our borders, outsiders who wish us harm." She stopped in her words, glancing back at Runako. "Not all outsiders are bad, of course, for what is a pride if it doesn't let them in, even if just a few at a time?"

"Ah of course." Runako followed her towards the border with a sheepish expression. He knew that. They were guardians after all - it was just...well he was finding his answers tangled. I really, really need to get over this. Thought the lion as he finally got the nerve to look up at Ramla.
Swallowing he nodded his agreement. After all he himself was an outsider - a very obvious one at that with his lilac coat amongst a pride which mostly matched the colors of the desert. So thank goodness that the pride accepted outsiders like him.

Hearing his swallow, Ramla glanced at the male. "You shouldn't be so nervous, the vultures can sense it. If they find a weak link in the chain, they WILL attack it." She'd already saved a cub on the shore from them... And subsequently adopted it, to boot. Where had that little pudge pot gone off to, anyway?

"They can?" Runako's gaze suddenly sharpened as he looked to the skies, "I'm not a weak link! I can take down any vultures...I just-" He looked at Ramla sheepishly before acting proud again, "Have troubles talking to others sometimes. But don't worry, I'll prove to be a strong guardian for the pride."
"So what are we doing towards the boarder?" He asked softly as he recognized the land that they were passing through, "Are we patrolling today?"

"Just find some common ground with someone... And yes we are." The lioness paused, closing her eyes and inhaling the air. After a moment, she set to simply walking the border. "You never know when a rogue of ill intent will come into the lands, either to try and steal a cub..." She scoffed. "Not that they could get to them, they stay in the temples... Or, they come to poach on our lands."

"Common ground." Runako repeated softly with a small smile. "Aye." He sniffed the air before scanning the area, "Oh. I guess even this pride has to worry about that." Runako made a face just thinking about those types of rogues made him feel defensive. No way would they be getting in this pride!
"So we keep them away, right?" He grinned at Ramla before giving a soft sigh, "Too bad it looks clear. We could have showed them something to remember." Though he still found it nice that it was clear of intruders.

"Of course we do.." The lioness smiled, holding her head high as she walked. "They see us, and they avoid us. There is no chance of ever doing us harm." Out here, there was nowhere to hide. The borders would be a perfect circle, if not for the ocean forming one border, and they stalked every inch of them. "Maybe we'll be lucky and run into an intruder..."

"Hmm." Runako listened to Ramla with interest. He was glad to have joined such a strong pride. The lion continued walking before letting out a purr of a laugh, "Maybe we will be lucky. The day hasn't even really started yet~" He commented as he moved ahead.
Today patrolling was going to be fun. Runako grinned as he kicked up more sand before returning to Ramla, "So far, clear." He stated looking up to the sky before gazing out across the lands again.
And so Runako's first day as guardian began. [fin]
