Intro A massive celebration has erupted in the streets of the hidden in sound village. Merchants fill the sides of the streets, the smells of exotic foods, the sounds of music and sellers advertising their wares fill the air with near deafening volume mixed amoungst the chatter of the many foreigners streaming down the central road towards the Colosseum.
All new entrants however are diverted from the arena where the final parts of the exams will take place. Rather they are sent to a small testing area where they will be, as always, widdeled down in number before performing in public eye in the last days of the celebration. A large simple looking building several stories tall stands with a line stretching out it's door. In the line are ninja from all over the world, ready to set aside their differences from the past war, many still wary as can be seen by body guards from each village that have attended as well.
Once you enter this building you are given a number and seated in a large hall. Every twenty minutes a set of numbers of called and attendants are brought below to a basement. In the basement a single door stands before you and once opened by the attending sound anbu allows the line inside. A huge cavern stretches out below filled with a labyrinth of passageways that have seemingly no end. You're task is simple... find your way out as quickly as possible, preferably before the rest of your group does. The information given is little, but you can be certain that traps and interference from the other competitors awaits you as you are each brought to separate entrances.
((Note, failing this section of the exams does not mean you are disqualified, it will however effect our judgment on whether or not you become a Chuunin. Becoming a Chuunin is not just or only succeeding each section, instead it is counted on how well you did with checks, how well you rp'd, and how clever you where during fights. Thus you could technically fail all the sections and still become a Chuunin (though unlikely) if you excelled in the other aspects of judging.))Quote: Stage 1:You have been brought to an entrance separate from all those whom came with you. You notice tags along the uper halves of the wall. A successful Int(x2) vs 100 will tell you that these are barrier tags and that trying to jump through them will be next to impossible. To navigate your way through the maze and make some form of progress you must rp 50 lines. Upon doing so you roll Int(x2) + Awareness buffs vs 150. Success means you make a progress of 2. Every degree of success gives you +1 more progress. Once you have 10 progress you will be able to move to stage 2. Quote: Stage 2:You come across a large circular area surrounded by boxes. A note on a stone pillar that these small chests surround is the words "take one". Some have been opened already while many others remain closed. You notice that there are far fewer boxes than people that entered the maze and are quickly able to assess that they must have something to do with passing the exam. ------ There are only 10 boxes available (others npc's have taken) meaning 5 of you will not pass this section of the exams stressing good checks on stage 1. You may, however, attempt to STEAL the contents of a box from another player that has taken them if you wish, doing so however will require tracking them from this point and defeating them in combat! You could, theoretically, do this even if you already had one just to assure others didn't pass this portion, though there would be no beneficial effect of doing so. ------ Once you open the chest you find a small stone kanji with a string made to fit around your neck, belt, or elsewhere. You must now make a stealth check and wait 2 out of game days (you may rp moving through the maze in the mean time). Others without keys may attempt to track you by making a Int(x2) + Awareness buff vs your Agi(x2) + Stealth Buffs. Success means they find you and may attempt to take your Kanji symbol. You may only attempt to track another player once per day. Once you have waited the two out of game days (note if you are in combat you must finish the fight before you can leave), your character comes across a large wall at the end of the exam where he may place his/her stone Kanji in special grooves of the wall. Once one does so, the wall opens allowing them exit, and then closes behind them. Once all 10 players have escaped, Chuunin come to collect those still in the maze to move onto the next section of the exams. Quote: So that we can properly keep up with the status of the exams, once you have obtained a kanji please pm a mod letting them know, and after you have waited 2 out of game days with the kanji send a follow up pm. This way we can keep track of who has and has not completed the exams with greater ease. Thank you. ~ele

Ka’rinth arrived in the waiting area and looked around briefly before moving his heavily cloaked body to the sign in location and received his number. He watched as various people were led away until his own number was called and he was led to an entrance to what was clearly a labyrinth. Despite his aversion to the idea of becoming a chuunin Ka’rinth found his curiosity piqued. Puzzles were fun, far more so than dreary exams as a whole or questionnaires. Something like a maze was infinitely more interesting than the prospect of being a team leader or the responsibilities of a chuunin. With a slight huff he made his way forward his feet thudding softly on the stone floor as his leather bound feet muffled the fact that it was his customized puppet with him inside moving and not simply a person. He had paid special attention to the makeup and movements as he had prepared to travel to the exam because the last thing he wanted was some fool attacking him while he relaxed. The wonderful thing about a puppet armor was that he could relax far more than walking around in the flesh as it might be called. Something minor like caltrops or a rogue kunai would be a problem in his actual body but tended to be barely more than distractions when he resided in his puppets. Ka’rinth looked around slowly as he studied the passage ways around him.
He took a deep breath of the air opening a special filter in the nose of his puppet so that the actual air circulated briefly within and allowed him to get an idea of just what was outside of it. It appeared to consist primarily of damp stone with faint traces of blood. Ka’rinth turned slightly and ran a hand along the wall only pretending to feel as he glanced upwards at tags along the top, it seemed quite obvious what those would do but with an air of caution he proceeded along the wall planning to follow it wherever it would lead. His puppets hand did not actually touch the wall but instead merely hovered an inch away from it as he relaxed and used the chakra strings to move the puppet and himself within along. He felt calm about the test so far and was hoping that this maze would have some interesting little twist such as maybe a shift that could actually prevent someone from walking along with a hand on the wall until they found an exit. That’s what he would do if he got to design one but the age of the stone did suggest that any such twist was unlikely or would be manufactured with genjutsu or some creative ninjutsu. There did seem to be quite a few ways to do such a thing but would they bother with it for the exam? It was always when it came to the concept of putting extra effort into things with simple solutions that Ka’rinth lost track of what others might do, he himself favored simple solutions and was most content when others did as well.
Now lets see, logically there is a test beyond navigating the maze, after all anyone can get through a maze given time, so does that mean there is something in here that would stop people from getting through? Why else would they take people one at a time to different places? Or the way out will be sealed and the test is not just navigating a maze but surviving. Damn I knew I should have left after getting my number. Well at the very least I have my cards so I can play a bit of solitaire if I must. It might also be wise to warn the unwary to leave me be or rather fail the exam on their own. Let’s see if I have anything that would suit that particular purpose. Ka’rinth talked to himself not to hear his own voice but as an affection for his puppets and to provide a narration for any listeners that would lead them to inaccurate conclutions about what he could do, would do, and intended to do. It was in his way of thinking a logical step to take to keep people from disturbing him or endangering his life but most importantly from wasting his time. After all time was one of those rare things that you could not recover by normal means and that could not really be bought or sold only loaned or lost. With a slight shrug Ka’rinth paused and glancing down at the floor ran another chakra thread along the stones before finding what he was looking for, a series of counterweights that would correspond to the seemingly random holes and niches in the wall. He traced the length of the trap carefully before settling his chakra threads on the stones and walking across them casually while actually using the threads to prevent them from shifting and setting off the traps. It was always best to pass over such gifts for others to find and enjoy than to trip them on purpose or obviously avoid them. It wasn’t paranoia that made him assume someone was watching him or listening in on him, just another logical view that chuunin exams would have proctors like all other that would monitor those involved. It also seemed logical to him that they might judge him well for avoiding the trap in such a way but it was better than springing who knows what on himself, he was a survivor by nature but there were a large number of things he was not equipped to survive in a normal setting much less a confined setting such as a large lump of metal moving at high speed in the shape of a blade from any direction much less all.

With a sigh Ka’rinth reached into his cloak and extracted a small plant reminiscent of a venus fly trap and held it up carefully and observed how it reacted, as was more common than not the largest vine pointed at Ka’rinth and the others splayed out in an assortment of directions. Using the logic that higher chakra sources were proctors Ka’rinth began navigating his way through the maze looking for the central area.

Ka’rinth sighed as he followed the vines noting how they shifted and using it to help plot his course, within the puppet he had already activated his own unique sharingan developed after the only serious training he had cared to do in his life. It was said that killing a close friend was the key to unlocking the advanced form was to kill someone that was a close friend, lacking those Ka’rinth had settled for killing off those of his first team followed by his foster parents and finally in a certain philosophical sense himself. Yet what he had gained were not the triangularly patterned eyes of the mangyou sharingan but the demon eyes that he did not show others and rarely used when not inside a puppet or hiding his face. He knew from experiments that his pupils were currently red and instead of irises or sclera he instead had a solid blackness expanding from the red pupil. The main reason he used it now was that while the plant could locate chakra sources it did not tell distance while his eyes in this form were easily capable of registering the color of chakra and judging how far it was if there was no interference. In the current case though the barrier was causing him a bit of trouble as it made it difficult to lock on to the other colors, in many ways he felt as though he were walking through a corridor of steam, there were outlines that were vague overpowered by a fragmented blue from the barriers that distorted the exact space to the chakra sources. Ka’rinth paused at a point where the path split and turned slowly like a sleep walker without stepping forward. His thoughts were on what he would do in such a situation and as he considered the types of traps he would be likely to set he looked up then down before spreading out tendrils of chakra string. He smiled slightly as he saw the entire floor was a pressure plate and while he could see the mechanism to trigger the trap in such a way by feeling it out it did not tell him what the trap did, only general guess work could provide that. It could be a false floor, a trigger to close off all passageways and flood the room to drown people, a drop the ceiling on them and get a person pancake, or a send sharp shrapnel out from every which way and cause a terminal loss of red water from the body trap. He often assumed that the result of a wrong move was something involving sharp bits of metal from all sides either impaling, cutting, or crushing him and as such had found himself rarely on the wrong end of a trap. When you walked through life assuming all missteps were terminal it was much easier to think ahead and not make glaring mistakes of which becoming a chuunin would increase his danger of dying versus remaining employed and fed ration to an uncomfortable level. It was always wise to trust yourself and avoid things that could kill you and since he was already here he felt obligated to complete the first stage, that way at the very least he could tell his kage and team leader he had tried and not just slacked off in the waiting room. The downside was having to at least start the second stage but the upside was not being banished or forced onto yet another inept team of overly eager brats foaming at the mouth to be sent on more impressive missions. He was comfortable on his own and knew that only pissing off those above him with an obvious lack of effort would get him reassigned, they were deluded to an extent into believing that after all this time any progress with him taking on tasks was a good sign and he was quite happy to give them just that perception because it meant more time with his garden and less being sent out on missions. He had a good arrangement with the higher ups and they knew if the village was attacked he would fight seriously to protect his garden and he knew that they knew it would be a bad idea to force responsibility on him because he would just shirk it and set an embarrassing precedent in the minds of any possible clients from outside. It all came down to you can ask me to go to the exams so long as you don’t ask me to pass them and a you’ll damn well put some effort in so long as you want to stay a ninja. At the end of the day they ended up in the same place though with Ka’rinth remaining a genin because he failed the exams and the higher ups knowing that skill wise he was anbu material but personality wise he was barely a genin. Yet his abilities and nature made them accept the arrangement and just write him off each year though he suspected they hoped he would eventually slip up and pass one year at which point his desire to remain a ninja and have food and shelter for relatively little effort would conflict with the requirements for the new rank forcing him to work harder for the village.
He smirked at the thought and resolved himself to carefully not pass the exams, he did so hope for a written test at some point, those were by far the easiest to fail, or maybe a test involving responsibility, he was born to fail those. With a sigh he shook himself slightly seeming as though he had been confused bout which direction to go before jumping lightly and clearing the floor to make it to the other tunnel where he began walking down it sure it was if not the most direct route a relatively safe one. He meandered slightly as he went and hummed softly seemingly oblivious to the concept of stealth. To Ka’rinth it seemed like making it seem like avoiding non-living traps was the only talent he had was the best way to achieve the results he desired and as such relaxing at the finish line would be easier to do if the proctors thought he was a bit daft. He grinned at the idea as he turned a corner and paused suddenly, the plant was quivering slightly suggesting that it felt something nearby that it was drawn to which in this case suggested chakra. He looked at it carefully and noted that there did seem to be a concentration a bit ahead as well as the fact that more of the tendrils seemed to be converging. He hoped he was near the end and made his way forward at a brisk walk keeping a practiced eye out for mundane traps while his eyes themselves and the little chakra plant would warn of less than mundane troubles should they seek him out. He picked up his pace slightly and accelerated forward hoping to be nearing the end of this first test as he reached a branching in the tunnel and on a gamble headed the direction most of the vines pointed. He could tell that the area ahead would open up and reflexively slowed as he approached a line of sight on the opening in order to avoid any nasty traps or other entrants that wanted to use physical force to win the test.

((I'm pretty sure that puts me at the center, my work pc is a bit screwy so I can't see to edit but I'll post more if needed and edit this when I can if it's wrong.))
As Ka'rinth saw rows of boxes and a note saying to take one he looked around and moved towards a closed box before probing it with his chakra threads and pulling it open to remove the contents.

Oasis entered the sign in area with her usual aura of chipper peppy energy. She watched the varying people whose strength varied almost as most as their appearances. Some were very obviously taijutsu masters from their apparent martial-arts style outfits to the more outlandishly dressed who likely used genjutsu but they could use ninjutsu just as likely. She tipped her head to the side as she saw them going to a table and receiving something. She realized thats where she should be and so she slipped her way through the crowd her bare feet lightly touching the surface of the ground as she moved to the end of the line, however as she stood there the line didn't move. She glanced to the side and saw another receive their number and the line didn't proceed. She huffed and took a half step back before kicking off the ground and flying over-head of the line infront of her with an arching flip. She looked at them on the way over and realized they were clones of some sort, someone was pranking her, she hit the ground with nary a sound and shook her head “Gotta get up earlier in the mornin than that to trick Oasis.” she states with a grin as she turned to table and received a number. Number thirteen was it? She noticed that quite a few had already been lead away. She looked around and saw a sign that said which number was up, it had just changed to number ten, she looked in time to see nine be lead to the area, she couldn't see who it was at all, all she could see was a heavy cloak as the person vanished off. She thought about the outfit and decided he or she, couldn't come from any of the hot nations, that outfit would be way too hot to wear in one of those areas like her home. She rocked from side to side energetically as she watched number ten, and then shortly eleven be lead away. When the number turned to twelve a massive individual walked past Oasis. He was a genin? But he was so huge how long had he been trying to pass and become chuunin. She thought about it for a bit until the giant turned around and looked at Oasis who was absolutely dwarfed in his huge presence, and instead of anything else coming to mind Oasis smiled brightly and waved “Good luck to you!” she chimes with a smile, the giant genin smiled warmly and nodded his head in appreciation. “The same for you little sand.” he states with a booming voice before turning and following the proctor that lead him to his entrance. Oasis grinned brightly now, that was neat she met a nice person and he was so big too. She rocked from side to side not really noticing her number was called, she blinked and looked to the display and then finally realized her number was on it, she popped up onto the balls of her feet and swam her way through the crowd with light movements she came to the proctor “READY!” she states fairly loudly, the proctor only grumbled and lead her off to her door. Oasis stepped lightly into an area separated from the others which was a bit of a bummer to her, she wanted to make more friends. She had actually learned quite a bit about her power during a short visit home between leaving the village and arriving at the exams, her parents helped her to understand her interesting eye technique as well as the glow she had experienced, while she didn't know exactly what it was she had come to understand how to use it. She looked around the area for a good long while not seeing an awful lot of anything, aside from a long corridor of stone. She could smell and feel water, or at least moisture really all about the place. That was rather nice for her actually she was worried about entering some bone dry dungeon. Eventually she decided she would need to focus to continue forward with this exam so eventually she sat down on the ground for a moment she closed her eyes and when they opened her eyes were red. Her demeanor changed as her expression went from an energetic and childish one to a more attentive face. She took a deep breath and looked at the entrance of the maze the longer she looked at it the more it began to change. Eventually the whole area looked a kind of monochrome color scheme aside from several squares at the top of the entrance and dotting along the top of the corridor down its visible length, she wondered what their purpose was for but as she stared at them she started to feel like she could understand why they were there, slowly she walked into the beginning of the corridor and as her feet touched the ground at the start she raised up to the balls of her feet and began to walk a lot softer fearing the potential of traps she brought her eyes level instead of at the squares to see if perhaps she could see traps like she could see those strange seals. Oasis started to walk lightly forward while contemplating the purpose of the seals.

It came to her now as she walked along seeing more and more of them, that they were seals to keep people from just jumping over the walls making the maze far to easy. She grinned to herself, how clever to use seals like that, and it was actually kind of clever she thought of herself to notice it. She skipped a few steps and came to a stop as she noticed the lighting was just a bit darker. She tipped her head to the side and then looked to the floor. Just as with the seals when she looked at the floor everything else seemed to dim and then what was important revealed itself to her. She could see plate under the stone, likely a pressure plate which meant a booby trap of sorts was waiting for whoever stepped on it meaning her. She tipped her head to the side as she looked at it and the area that likely was effected by it and after some contemplation she decided the best thing to do was avoid it entirely so she knelt for a moment before pushing off the ground and long jumping over it, she needed to long jump to avoid going too high and triggering the barrier which didn't seem like a good idea to her really. She landed on the other side lightly on her feet making very little noise as she turned around and looked behind her at the trap, from here it was safer to trigger the trap. She figured that triggering the trap was a good idea, she didn't want anyone that might come after her to get hurt on it after all. She tipped from one side to the other before bringing her hands together for a moment before releasing a short blast of thick water from her mouth. It hit the plate and the floor popped open revealing a drop that went into what? She looked down the hole and realized it was water. A wide grin spread over her face, it was too bad she hadn't triggered it before water was always fun, but there was the chance that there was something in it. She nodded lightly guess it was best to not play around at a time like this she was supposed to be being serious. She put on a mock serious face and nodded again before turning back to the corridor. Until now it had just been a single path that bent and turned many times, now it finally split. She blinked a few times, which way was the way that she needed to go from here. She closed her eyes for a moment and knelt low to the ground, she gave a slight sniff to the air but that didn't really help seeing as the entire place was damp she couldn't just locate the path through moisture. She opened her eyes and focused on the paths, after a little while of focusing and thinking a trail appeared pointing into one of the paths, it was a faint blue trail perhaps remnant chakra, there were other trails of it but the most of it headed in that direction. She smiled and turned to follow that path of chakra and sure enough it didn't end in a dead end at least so she continued along that path for a time.
Oasis continued to move with moderate haste along the path keeping a low and quiet profile to her movement however once she came across what looked like a dead end she paused and looked at it incredulously. She thought she had found the right path back there. No, she didn't just think she knew she found the right path it was only logical that those who came before especially those that knew the maze would have taken the correct path more often than the wrong one. So that meant that this was just a wrong wall, most certainly. She brought her hands together and closed her eyes with a mild exertion of chakra she altered the chakra movement around her self and when she opened her eyes the wall faded, surely enough it was a genjutsu wall. With a nod Oasis continued past this point and into another selection of paths, seeing as the chakra path was still plenty clear she simply followed it and was headed with fair haste down what felt to be the right path. However she came to a skittering halt when the chakra path vanished entirely, she looked up and glanced around the area, there was something different about these walls. She held a hand close to her mouth and breathed into her closed palm creating a small amount of steam in her hand laced with chakra she released it into the room and quickly the chakra was pulled out of it. So something about the walls in this area scrubbed loose chakra away. She scrunched her nose up how annoying she couldn't just trace the path now. She closed her eyes and put her bare foot on the ground lightly she pressed down with the a little strength and felt the floor out. She moved forward very slowly feeling the surface of the ground with her bare feet. She could feel a strange difference as she came across a split in the path she opened her eyes lightly and could feel a pattern on the ground there was a slight difference in the path headed to the left. It felt more used it felt like it was more visited by feet of different kinds, heavy shoes and other things, this had to be the path. Oasis turned and carefully followed along the path allowing the bottoms of her feet to tell her what to do.

Hatsuma arrived in the country finally, the place was no desert but held a few similarities one being a lot of flatlands about. Oasis was quick on her feet and had already gone to the first area and Hatsuma followed after giving a bow of gratitude to the carriage before turning about and making her way into the waiting area where she retrieved her number and sat in waiting to be called down into the first challenge. She sat next to a rather flamboyant genin who kept bragging about his skills and how he was gonna be the first to slay some sort of dragon that was set up for them in the first challenge. To that Hatsuma gave an audible scoff which got his attention immediately. “Hey baby don’t worry I’ll protect you from the beasties they got set up down there, after all I got inside info on the entire event so it’ll be a breeze.” The flamboyant shinobi’s words oozed out as if they were some kind of muck to which Hatsuma responded with a rather deadly gaze before she spoke. “You are a shame to your village if you take in any information you are given as truth, and foolish to assume that I would need your protection from anything down there.” Hatsuma’s words were much calmer then the look in her eye. There was an audible background jeering of the shinobi’s peers consisting of things like ‘Ohh burn!’ and the like. “Y…Yeah good luck to you too chicky…” The shinobi stumbled over his tongue before returning to his friends seeming a bit more dejected and defeated then before. Hatsuma seemed to have a flare about her not quite usual in her normal demeanor but then she didn’t often confront shinobi from another country then either. The thing about beasts was unlikely to be in the first stage of the exams, her studies taught her otherwise. It was likely some kind of test that measured ones logic and wits. Several more genin were called down and by the looks would be weeded out rather quickly from the exams. The time came when Hatsuma’s number was finally called and she stood and followed the proctor downwards into the depths of what seemed like a massive basement. Finally the stairway came to an opening a grand room whose ceiling was out of sight and in front of her a massive stone wall that had a small entrance. She wasn’t sure if this was the same starting location as the others but she had to assume otherwise as she approached the overbearing wall. The shadow from the wall loomed out over her as she examined it carefully. “When you are ready Kidomaru Hatsuma you may enter the maze and make your way to the goal at the center. Good luck to you genin.” The proctor stated sternly before stepping back towards the stairway that they had entered through. Hatsuma said her farewells to the proctor and wished her comrades luck silently, however this task was to test ones personal skill not cooperation abilities. Hatsuma stepped into the corridor of the maze this would be quite a task, one that required the use of logic as well as memory. Likely it was taken from tales about the Minotaur’s labyrinth meaning you had to go forward and make it to the center to retrieve your prize. Hatsuma spotted the papers riddling the walls and didn’t even have to examine the things to know they were some type of method to keep one from climbing over the walls to reach the goal. Giving a sigh she started forward down the corridor, there was likely to be some trick when one reached the center however that would be something to worry about when the time came. The straight corridor seemed to go on for quite a while before something finally changed; before Hatsuma’s eyes there was a choice to be made, a three way split in the path sent the corridor winding away into nothing. “hm…” Hatsuma exclaimed to herself as she sat in the center where the paths connected. There was only one path towards her goal but which of the three would lead her there? She began plotting in her mind the possible angles at which each path could turn given the current point in which she sat was a starting point. Assuming the paths themselves wouldn’t actually intersect it would be safe to gather that they would never come together at another intersection. That left it a matter of which path would likely dead end? The foreward most path seemed to turn off at an angle not giving it a straight view of whether it ended or not and the other paths curved away as well making it difficult to estimate as to which was right. There was one solution to this and that was to map out the maze until it could be traversed easily. Hatsuma stood up once more and placed one of her right hands gently against the stone wall on her right and began walking along it taking note of the layout as she traveled along. This method would take a while to get to the goal however it did ensure she could find her way around easily in case she needed to return the way she came once the goal at the center was reached.

Oasis continued along having found a method that was being more reliable than her eyes were just moments before. She paused feeling an alteration in the floor her eyes oddly enough couldn't see it, but her feet were sensitive and so she could feel it. The floor had suddenly become much smoother. It had a slightly curved feel to it actually. She closed her eyes for a moment longer as she tried to figure out what it was. Then when she opened her eyes there was a spark of realization she reached out to the sides and touched the walls they were smooth too, and there was a slope to the floor. She slid her feet along the surface this was a foreboding floor for certain. Then when she started to feel a rumbling it occurred to her what it was, this was a chamber for something to roll down, and so that meant that something was going to come racing her way, she turned around and faced up the incline her eyes glowing slightly as the markings on her body lit up ever so slightly as she saw it coming, a large boulder was coming her way, she must have tripped the trap earlier some how without realizing it, or perhaps this entire area was a trap and she had accidentally turned down this path. She brought her hands out in front of her and looked up at the approaching stone ball. She sucked in a deep breath and brought her hands together releasing a blast of thick viscous liquid from her mouth that hit the floor with a resounding hiss melting the floor considerably, when the ball hit the floor its momentum caused its trajectory to be altered as instead of heading straight down it now had a slight upward bent to its movement. Oasis took advantage of this and slid under it with quick movement releasing another stream of water at it from underneath to keep it from falling on top of her as she went under it. Once behind the ball she watched it continue down the corridor and nearly crash into a wall before it suddenly fell into the floor and the hole it fell through closed up again. She sighed having narrowly avoided that rolling titan before she raced down the hallway after the stone and went through the doorway that opened after the stone ball vanished. She could see the chakra paths again and she could feel the same pattern from before, this was the right path again. She nodded lightly breathing a bit heavily as she calmed herself the glow faded from her eyes and markings before she continued on down the path.

((sai says be nice to me too D: )) ((edit: yay it listened :3 ))
Some time had passed as Hatsuma had kept a hand on the wall to her right, she’d gone down quite a few corridors and reach a number of dead ends, she realized now that she had returned to the first three-way spilt. “I’ve made almost no progress… this is a disappointment…” Hatsuma commented to herself and continued onwards keeping her hand on the wall to her right; it was safe to assume that the passage to the right was a rat trap to nowhere riddled with nothing but dead ends and turnarounds. With her hand sliding along the cold stone she began moving along the middle path now proceeding to systematically check and mark every twist and turn mentally. This time it might take even longer then the first due to the fact that right away there was a four way split counting the direction she had come from, it was like an intersection of sorts. This would be challenging however this little issue also showed promise if it was more complex it might give way to the fact that it was the right direction, of course it could simply be another compilation of cul-de-sacs like last time. Hatsuma sighed and continued onwards, sometimes she wished she could have Oasis’ personality she was likely randomly testing tunnels and with her luck was gaining quite a head way as a result. Hatsuma couldn’t help but grin at the thought of that shinobi from the waiting room. It would figure the genin would have terrible sources but it brought a joyful smile to her face none the less. This smile was not like Hatsuma… perhaps she was relaxed a bit now that she was alone someplace. She had always kept a strict front because of the fact that others around her seemed to lack the aptitude for such. She could probably blame the bump she had gotten on her head on the island for the change of personality. Hatsuma though about these things and also began to wonder might be at the center of the maze. It was certainly not likely to be a beast, but there may be a trap or guardian of some sort there. Hatsuma paused a moment and remembered some words of wisdom from the nomad elder… ‘To escape the inescapable sometimes you must get stuck even worse then you are now before the way out becomes clear.’ The saying was a bit confusing to Hatsuma as the saying tells of escaping something that also is told can’t be escaped… though it may be like sandpits in the desert… often you can escape them and simply need to fall through to a cavern that was hidden below the entire time. Maybe the point of the saying was to merely keep ones spirits up long enough to find the way out of the cavern underneath the sand pit. “That could be…” Hatsuma said allowed to herself in order to break the odd silence that seemed to be about the place even though there are supposed to be a large number of other students who had entered the place. Another thought came to Hatsuma’s mind as well… the size of this place must be quite large for her to have not run into another shinobi by this point. “hm… what time is it?” She found herself questioning the time because of the fact her methods were quite lengthy it felt like it had been hours but was that really the truth? Hatsuma was beginning to question a lot of things maybe it was time to take a moment and recalculate things… as she was thinking this she spotted another dead end up ahead, this one added to make the total count of dead end paths equal 46. She reached the dead end and placed her hand on the wall before sitting down criss-cross in order to think things through. So far she had covered approximately 7896 steps, she didn’t have a measure on the distance from that but it was likely over a mile maybe even two miles worth of walking. This meant that at her current pace she had traveled for about four hours. This maze was quite grueling indeed it tested more then just ones intellect it also measured how well they could maintain it as well. Hatsuma rubbed at her temple a bit; maybe she was thinking to much about things and should just continue onwards. The maze was likely meant to put one on edge, Hatsuma would prove she was better then it’s creators. She stood once more and replaced her hand on the dead end wall and proceeded down along the opposite wall she had met the dead end with. Soon she was out of that passage and going along around a corner and into another pathway. The method was painstakingly long but quite effective in getting the layout of a maze’s outer edge as well as the location of the dead ends within. Hatsuma walked and walked and walked some more; this path was quite long, but Hatsuma remained composed it was likely that it was just a long passage, not one that exited out into the center. Hatsuma yawned a little bit as she continued walking along the pathway still paying attention to her hand sliding along the stones in the wall. “This is a long one…” she commented continuing onward down the path, she spotted an opening a ways down at least it felt like progress she’d find out shortly.

Erkamina entered the area through a strange entrance that seemed to force her to be alone. She sighed heavily and looked around, noticing strange tags on the top portion of the walls. She wanted to know what they were and why they were there but she also noticed the maze like arrangement in front of her. This was a test? What for, strategy or intelligence? She growled softly, she hadn't trained for such things, in fact she felt as if she hadn't trained at all. She looked at her scabbed knees and felt at the wall, trying to find a way up past those barriers. Wall Walking would work but it would take too much chakra, and the maze was probably her best bet. She studied the tags, they looked familiar, if only slightly. She squinted at them and they became clearer, they were barrier tags and they ran in all directions along the top half of the walls. "Crap. I figure I can't jump then. Doesn't matter, I'm not good at jumping anyway." She muttered as she continued forward into the maze, leaving the safety of the entrance area behind.
… Soon I will show the world the worth of that name.’

Hisaki glanced around. None of his teammates where called with him for this round of the Exams. All he could see were some genin from other villages. Some Sound ninja, some Mist, one Sand, and a pair of Cloud ninja were in his call group. Hisaki sighed as they began to walk to the Exam area, “Guess I'm going it alone for the start...” Hisaki pulled a cigarette from his pocket and glanced and one of the ANBU, “Is it okay if I smoke?” The ANBU was silent, but he shrugged, signaling that it was probably okay if he did. Hisaki ignited a flame between his fingers, and lit the tip of the cigarette. After getting it to a nice orange ember, Hisaki whipped his hand, letting the flame die. In the time he was lighting the cigarette, they'd brought the group down to a basement. Hisaki could see a large door up ahead, that was opening just for them. As they entered, it was apparent that the door opened to a large cave. There was a large open area, with a cavernous ceiling and walls. Immediately in front of them was a large wall that rose a third of the way to the massive ceiling, made of rigid stone. In the wall were ten openings, ten doorways into the first test. They were each brought to one of the doorways, and an ANBU gave the signal not to go until his mark. With a loud crack, the game began. Hisaki took a dash down the hallway in front of him, but as soon as he got to his first fork, he stopped in his tracks, “It's a maze? Damn, this is going to be tougher than I thought... I need a strategy so I don't get lost.” Hisaki leaned against a wall, and put a finger to his head, “What do I have with me? Kunai? This goard? A sword?” Hisaki snapped his fingers, “Got it! If I can make a scratch on the walls, I can keep track of where I've been!” Hisaki pulled a kunai from his pocket and stabbed the wall on the left path, and the path he came from. After doing so, he took the left path. As he walked, other paths opened, but he decided against them, opting to go straight. Eventually, Hisaki was met with a split fork. In frustration, he ruffled his hair, “Ugh, Where do I go? I don't want to meet up with a dead end... If only I could see which way was...” Hisaki laughed, “Wow I'm such an idiot! I can already do that!” Hisaki slid the kunai into his pocket, and performed a few handseals. Upon the last one, veins shot up on his temples, and his eyes grew tense, “Byakugan!” Suddenly, the halls and passages were much clearer. He could easily see up to one hundred and fifty meters away. Using his sight, he began to map out the left path. The right path stretched a ways, and broke off into three other paths. Path one lead into a circle, path two was a dead end, and had a trap sprung with a tripwire, and path three simply ended after a short hallway with a genin walking down it. From what Hisaki could see, the genin was sick of walking into dead ends. Hisaki pulled back his vision, then looked down the right path. In that path, he saw a few more branches, which after a quick confirmation, were dead ends. The path went farther, but he couldn't see the labyrinth after that. Hisaki grinned, “Looks like I'm going that way.” Hisaki jogged down the path, noting each direction he'd have to take as he went. Having the Byakugan eyes came in very handy for this sort of thing, as they allowed him to analyze every path up to one hundred and fifty feet away. This far in, he hadn't come to a single dead end or ninja, much to his own design, but suddenly, there was a problem. As far as he could map, he had three routes: One ran into another ninja navigating an area with a few traps, one ran into another pair, who looked sufficiently weaker, but on the same team, and the third was lined with a pitfall and a few other traps. Hisaki canceled his Byakugan to take a good look of the area. He wasn't too keen on a battle, but if he had to take one, he would have to choose the weaker pair. Although they had numbers on their side, Hisaki knew that he wouldn't accidentally trip a trap in battle, and neither would they. Hisaki pulled out his kunai and marked the second path, and started down it cautiously. As he walked, he activated his Byakugan, and got ready to attack if necessary. If possible, he was willing to pass them, but he had to expect an attack. Quote: Intx2 + Awareness Buff vs. 150 (45)x2 + 100 (Hyuuga Bonus) = 190 vs. 150 is 54% Result: 94 is a fail D:
