Anya flicked her feathered filled tail around, trying to get the blasted flies off of her. She was out for a walk, away from her sisters and duties she was at peace. Though she loved the foals in her flock after days of watching over them with little breaks she was sick of dealing with them and had to get away for at least a short while, thus is why Anya was here.

She didn't know what to do to be honest. These lands the queen had brought the flock to were so different from the homelands. The weather was much too hot for Anya's tastes, the hot summer made her miss the all year around snow and ice of storm peaks. Unlike her homeland there wasn't endless fighting in kawani, it made her feel uneasy, not sure if others outside of her sisters were just playing with her so they can get the chance to harm her. Which is why she was always on guard when out, even now Anya glanced over her shoulders every few feet as she walked for the danger that plagued her mind.

Anya paused at the rapid river, looking over her shoulders a last time before dipping her head down to take a drink from the river. Letting the cool water full her dry mouth she forgot her walls for a moment, letting herself enjoy the drink before Anya had to start heading back to her flock.

User Image Even the shade was hot. This prompted the golden hued stallion to leave the dank, cloying heat of the forest and head out into the open air. The sun was more ferocious here, but at least there was the chance to come upon a bit of running water far larger than a little stream. There was a better chance of it being not only wet, but cold.

On the plains where the yellowing, dead grass crunched under hoof, he felt most at home. He blended with the scenery far more, save his green head and purple neck markings.

The stallion tucked his wings neatly onto his back and lifted his head slightly, nares twitching to try and catch some scent of water, his ears perked to try and listening for that tell-tale rushing, whooshing sound.

He found it!

The stallion headed over a small hill, looking all around himself. There really wasn't much to see but the brittle grasses lent itself to producing a myriad of sounds as small creatures scuttled through it. Each and every new sound caught his attention, if only briefly. He was just as visual as he was auditory so when a bright patch of dark blue flitted in the corner of his eye he stopped and stared for a moment.

Yes, it was impolite, but he just couldn't help himself. The blue hue tinted feathers! He had never yet seen anyone with tail feathers, besides himself before. And a mare to boot! Needless to say, he had completely forgotten both the heat and the river in which she was currently drinking.

Today was suddenly full of limitless possibilities!

Anya had lifted her head when she was done, still relaxed she was just about to put one of her talons into the river so she could jump in, when her pale ears perked and flicked at the sound of hooves crunching dried grass. Her feathers ruffled at the sound as she whipped herself around to face whoever was trying to sneak up on her. A she growled softly as she eyed up the male. He was...interesting looking. He looked more like a bird then horse, heh just like her. Though he had wings, why she had talons. She could see feathers like hers on his tail, which...made her want to know more about this bird stallion. She frowned at the way he was carrying himself, just from his body language alone you could tell he was a cocky, proud stallion.

Anya lifted her head high as she clicked her talons on the ground, readying them if she had to attack. "Male! What do you want?" She asked, an blue eyebrow raising up at him coming closer and closer. Friend or enemy? She couldn't tell what this stallion was. Clearly he wasn't a meat eater like a kalona or skin walker. But Anya knew quite well how there were ones who would gladly kill another just for the sport of killing.

Salvatore was snapped out of his daze when the mare whirled on him. He blinked a few times, and shook his head. “Ah, Signora, I am sorry. I did not intend to stare.” He apologized, bobbing his head a few times in the stereotypical way most birds do. “I merely wished to cool off and I must admit your exceptional looks caught my attention.” He noticed her defensive posture and took a few slow, and deliberate steps closer.

A soft smile slipped across his face as he readjusted his wings so that the feathers laid a little more comfortably. He gave the mare a polite half bow.
“Saluti, I am Salvatore.” He added being sure to keep the timbre of his voice even and low to try and calm the mare’s nerves. “May I get a drink, or would you rather I kept my distance?” He asked, his dark golden eyes showing nothing but a genuine want of fellowship.

She sneered a little at him apologizing. Her ruffled tail flicked in anger, she was trying to keep her cool but Anya couldn't help her hot headed nature around males. Anya snorted and rolled her eyes when he tried to complaint her. "Now I know you are a liar male. My looks are not exceptional." She matched his steps closer with steps backwards, her feet making their way into the rushing river.

Anya's gaze flicked to his wings when she saw them move, Anya couldn't help herself but stare longingly at them. She had always wanted wings, be able to fly like a real bird it would be heaven. The ones that lay are her feet were like teases, they looked the part, but couldn't play the part merely there to show of their harpy blood. "Anya." She replied swiftly when he told her his name. Salvatore huh? She liked it. It was different, and it rolled off the tongue nicely.

Anya sighed as she pouted her feathers soon smoothing out as her anger levels dropped. He was not showing signs of anger, unlike her. But then again he was a low male, a delicious bird looking one at that but still a male. She frowned before bobbing her head too, much like he did earlier before she slid over a few feet, trying to get out of the path the male was taking to the river.

The stallion listened to the mare rebuke her appearance and arched a brow. “If I may, Signora Anya, I was not lying when I said you looked beautiful to me. I have never yet met someone with any avian features that I, myself, possess. The cream of your pelt and the blues of your feathers and markings, personally, are quite striking.” He said seriously.

He noticed how she watched him move his wings and made a mental note to move them as little as possible. But given her rather cold disposition toward him he felt it was a step in the right direction that she offered her name to him, even if she took a step backward for each he took toward her.

As her feathers laid more flatly against her pelt his posture became even more languid and relaxed. She was calming visibly, and that, to him, was half the battle.

“Grazie, bello.” He told her as he bent his head to drink. He decided that the endearment ‘bello’ fit her perfectly because, in his eyes, she was beautiful. Even if for some reason she chose not to reflect this beauty in her personality, at least, as far as he could see at the moment.

He knew if he wished to get to know this mare, and he did find her interesting enough to attempt to do so, that it would take a lot of hard work on his part.

And so, he’d begin the intricate dance.

Anya smirked at the male, he wouldn't give up that battle eh? Interesting, the bird stallion was just as strong as he was cocky. "Well thank you male. Though, I highly doubt you'd say that if you were to meet my sisters. But it is an interesting boast to my ego." She said with a flick of the tail. Males had never said such things to her, and that was okay. She could deal with 'you're a monster!' and 'who would ever take such a ugly bird brain as yourself seriously.' She knew she was beautiful in her sisters and her eyes, but coming from a male? She didn't know how to deal with that.

"Bello?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "I have never heard the humans speak like that here, birdy, where do you come from?" Anya knew went well that soquili could come from other parts of the world, she was one of those soquili. But Anya chose not to speak her native language, she wanted to leave all of that past behind her. Her eyes dragged over him, taking in every little marking. He could truly be a bird just in horse form. The only thing that bugged her is that she could see human string keeping his tail feathers on. "Can you not grow your own feathers in your hair, birdy?" She asked with a sly smile. Maybe males here were not like back home? Maybe they could not grow such amazing things like spikes, feathers, and things of that nature from their bodies?

(Sorry it's so short. I've been soooo busy lately.)

Salvatore drank deeply. When he was sated he turned back toward the mare, an easy smile on his face. “You are quite welcome.” He paused at the mention of her ‘sisters’. “There are more of your kind here?” He asked, expression brightening considerably. “And an interesting ego boost? Your wording in itself is interesting, if I may say. Forgive me if I am just not familiar with your choice in wording. I understand the meaning, though.” He told her. “Si. I am not from these parts. The native American languages are quite new to me and I tend to fall into the pattern of taking up a few stray words of my native tongue, Italiano. But, ‘bello’ means ‘beautiful’. If it bothers you I will call you by your name instead?” He asked.
It seemed she noticed his tail feathers. “The answer is somewhat complicated.” He returned her sly look with a crooked smile. ‘Birdy’, while probably meant to be an insult was good to him. It meant she was being far less formal than she had been. He would ignore it for the time being. Baby steps, after all.

“I cannot grow my own feathers. These,” He turned to the feathers tied into his tail. “belonged to mi padre. The pale two-leg who owned my madre tied them into my tail for me after my padre died of an illness. He was set to sail to these lands as a hunting mount for some explorers. I was sent in his stead. I escaped. My madre was a regular grounded mare which diluted my father’s blood. Everything else, however, I got from him. His was a rare blood. He was much like you, in fact. He told me he was borne of a bird and a mare…just how much of that is true, I cannot say.”

“So to answer your question, Signora Anya, no.”

(S’ok, I understand how that is. Life’s gonna be picking up for me soon too once Uni starts up again. Evil thing, that.

And I just found out I needed to change his back-story. So I edited this post. Sorry! )

Anya flicked her ears back slightly before nodding. "Yes...My flock is just one of a couple of harpy flocks in this area. Though...we are much nicer then those barbaric hatetalon harpies." She spat out the word hatetalon like it was her most hated word, which it kinda was. The two flocks did NOT get along at all, the way those are harpies hated disgusted Anya. Her talons clicked roughly in the water, making soft splashing noises. Hating and fighting were all they knew, something Anya didn't quite understand. Yes, she may hate males but she also realized how wonderful fun they could be if you toyed with them right. "Oh?" She said before looking up, snapping out of her hated thoughts by Salvatore speaking. "I see. I can understand were you are coming from male, this language is hard to learn if you are a new comer to these lands." Much like she was, though Anya would never say it she at times had trouble understanding kawani. It was so different! "We seem to be the same. Birdy, where is your homeland?" She stared at him for a few seconds before smirking. This male truly was trying hard to make her feel beautiful, she hated to say it but...it was a nice change from cold blooded monster. "No birdy, that is...pretty. I must say, I don't mind being called bello."

She let out a soft caw much like a bird as she toke a few more steps towards him. They were fake? Interesting. She knew the humans often put strange things on the soquili that could stand to be around the weaklings for more then five minutes, but long feathers? That was something new. "Even I highly doubt he was born from a bird. That is just simply silly." She said with a light laugh and a shake of her head. Ahh what wild stories males often made up. "That is sad. Birdy, what do you do if your feathers are ever lost? Do you have to go back to dirty humans to get some more?" She asked, Anya didn't know why but she was curious about this male. He was the closest thing she'd seen ever to a male harpy, something as a young chick she had always wanted to find, it was...quite like childhood dreams coming true.

(Ahh. I understand. Uni is like the epic time suckers of time suckers. xD

No worries. :3 )

He listened to her speak about the rival harpy flocks and nodded when appropriate. Some were barbaric? Well, he’d have to do his best to avoid them. He made a mental note of this. “Si. That it is. May I say, you seem to have grasped it far better than I have.” When he asked where he lived previously, he stopped to think of how to best explain it to her. “I came from across the ocean. The sky where I lived was a cerulean blue, and the waters were almost always crystal clear and warm like bathing water. Fruit grew year around and there was never any snow. The shores were of the most pure white sand.” He exhaled deeply. “I can never return to my beloved Italy.” He said, with a slight tinge of sorrow in his voice.

Her next response made him quite a bit happier. “Wonderful. Bello, it is. I am quite glad that you are happy with it.” He told her. The stallion nodded. It was farfetched that his father was the result of the coupling between a bird and horse, but until he came to these lands he had no other way to account for his wings or his colouring.
He blinked, a slight feeling of- was it insult, swelled his chest. Salvatore had to be mindful of his posture with this flighty mare. That and her talons didn’t exactly look as if they had problems cutting through flesh. His eyes flickered for a moment, belaying the emotions that simmered just beneath the surface. He took a deep breath in the attempt to have patience with her.

“If they are lost I have lost any and all connections with my padre. Until I know otherwise I must believe that they came from him. So no, I cannot just go to those vile creatures and get more. They were not fashioned by human hands. I would not wear them if they were.” His hoof twitched slightly in irritation.

Anya smiled softly and nodded. "Thank you birdy. I was lucky, after we came here I got a hold of a male, he taught me this strange language for his freedom." She snorted softly to herself. Too bad it didn't help him in the long run, when the flock was hit with hard times he was one of the first to be...used, per say, to feed the flock. She wasn't proud of that moment but...hunger does crazy things to people.

She tilted her head slightly to the side as he spoke, like a bird does when it's listening. "Italy..? Your homeland sounds quite interesting birdy. Much different from my homeland." She sighed a bit remembering Azeroth. It was a wild place, but it was home. "Mine was always snow, cold, and harsh. There was always fighting going on, so up in the ice pecks it was safer for my race. I do miss Azeroth, But I don't in some way." There was a hint of sadness underlining her voice when she spoke about her homeland. She missed the weather, And the fact that up there she knew where everything was. Here in Kawani she was so lost, It would really ruffle her feathers sometimes!

Anya smirked slightly and nodded to the male. "Well, maybe one day you'll find out the truth of your father's making?" Though it was a far fetched idea that he was made from a horse and a bird, If one wasn't around others that were like him Anya could see where someone would get that idea. She had heard stranger tales of race back in her homeland.

She raised one of her eyebrows slightly as she looked over him. He looked flustered, Angry almost. It amused her to no end that he would get so upset over just a little comment about humans. Did he not like them that much? Maybe this male wasn't as stupid as other males after all. "Whoa. Calm down there birdy. I was just asking, I did not mean it has a insult. I for one think the same way you do. I don't understand how others can wear things made by such vile things as humans."
