Equus was willing to endure the cold of the mountain for all his days, for the sake of his Winter Love. He had never been happier, keeping her all to himself. Their glittering days were spent in play, hunting, and gazing at the wonders their territory molded. Their nights were spent curled warmly together, full of soft words and gentle touches.

Months went by, swirling in a happy scud of snow across a frozen plain. But as he became familiar with her world of ice and cold, he felt the rising desire to show her his favorite landscape. So it was that one night, while snuggled together at the mouth of their den, gazing up at the glittering, icy stars, he nosed her gently to get her attention.

"Dearest of all," he began, for he loved to make her smile or blush with his fond and myriad names for her. "Would you ever consider coming with me to the lowlands? Not to stay," he hurriedly reassured her, knowing how she felt about warmer climates. "Just to visit, so taht I might share with you the beauties I treasure, just as you have shown me yours." His eyes looked deep into hers, rapt and intensely sincere. For him, forevermore, there was her and only her.

The icy female flicked an ear toward him as he nosed her, eyes still locked on the stars a moment longer. It had been a fantastic few months, the pair had fallen into a fantasy land of snow that never melted. Her winter fur was full and robust year round, and now she had stars on the ground and in the sky to be her company.

He was her everything, her heavenly body come to guide and comfort her in her solitude. Everything they had done in the last few months had been together, and Livia longed for nothing else. She listened to his question, and before she got to answer the question he amended it a little. A slow smile began on the femme's face as she turned to him, eyes breaking from the sky only to meet with more sky.

She didn't immediately like the idea of traveling to the lowlands in summer, but her expression didn't show it. If he wished to go, she would go, because what he wanted she could not deny. "The lowlands," she started slowly, thoughtfully. There might be a way to travel it without trouble, actually. "I would like to go with you. We could stay near the streams that flow from the mountain, they can cool me if I feel as though I may melt." Livia laughed lightly, light blue eyes locked on Equus.

He nuzzled her adoringly, eyes lit with delight at the idea. It was perfect! "I had not thought of that as a means to it, but that would work perfectly for what I have planned." He drew her close to him, his jaw curled protectively around the back of her skull. "I want to show you my own home. Where I came from before your beauty changed my life." He leaned back again to smile into her eyes. She truly had indeed completely changed his life. He'd gone from the position of a guard for a pack, rising in the ranks with a bright future in fighting. Now, he was the gentle companion and provider for his dearest one.

"Come, let us go then. The rivers and streams will lead us to the sea. I think you will like it!" He grinned at her, excitement shining in his eyes and making his tail bristle and wag animatedly behind him. His paws were practically prancing with eagerness. "Now is a lovely time to go to the ocean!" He leapt to his paws and fairly danced as he bounded towards the trail that led down from their mountain refuge.

Her starry skies was always so well spoken. Livia was moved by his enthusiasm, and leaped to her feet as well. The ocean! She had never been. Warmth that rolled off of the water even in the winter, that's how her mother had described it, so she had never gone. Perhaps, though, the beauty of it was worth the trip. Equus was slowly freeing her from her seclusion, whether he knew it yet or not. Her brave companion, her protector, her love. He would never lead her to anything unpleasant, and so the long years of icy home and icy heart were more flexible now.

"Then we will go!" She followed him down the mountain like a shot, bounding and playing through the packed summer snow of the peak. Though she preferred the freshly fallen stuff of winter, this was almost as pretty. For a moment Livia wondered what could rival it.

"Lead on, my starry love. You are my compass." She followed him through the winding trails of her homeland, and it wasn't long before snow turned to slush and little streams leading toward their destination. The ice colored wolf splashed through the chilling mountain water and down into the forest. Here the water started to warm, but perhaps it wasn't so unpleasant. The night air was cool, and she was quite thoroughly wet.

He led her through the shadowy pathways of water while the stars glimmered above. He knew the waterways would remain quite frigid for a long while, which he was grateful for. Not for himself, for he had never minded the warmer climes, though the sun did heat his black fur uncomfortably if he stayed in it too long during the summer. Even so, knowing his love's tendancy to wilt beneath the summer sun, he knew they'd be restricted to travelling at night.

Thus, as the eastern sky began to brighten, he began searching the banks for a refuge. The air was still chilly as the edge of the sun peeked over, and his search became more urgent. Finally, he lucked out. A rise in the ground against the stream revealed a break in the rock beneath the soil. It sank out of sight in a slow incline, the floor disappearing into deep, cool shadow. Witha soft bark to call her over, he dove in first, eyes adjusting quickly to the dimness within. It was a little slick, but not too steep, and went down deeper than he had expected, which was perfect. That meant it would remain cool and shaded through the entire day.

Ever the watchful and solicitous mate, he turned to watch Livia enter their makeshift den. "How is this, my Winter Eyes?" His tail swished eagerly behind him. "Will this keep you cool enough?"
