User ImageindentAngels had lived on Earth for more millenia than than humans can fathom. They not only serve to take the deceased to their own desired or deserved afterlife, but also to protect the living. With each birth, a guardian angel is to appear; however, with modern medicine it is becoming more and more likely that the angel doesn't stay, due to some disruptive practice of prenatal care or modern birth practices. Because of this, not everyone has a guardian angel, but sometimes one is assigned to a person that has been decided to need one anyway. Those that the all-mighty and all-powerful chooses to sway in a direction or to protect, to steer the world in the direction that is most desired.

indentRecently, problems with this system have surfaced. The angels left without a charge, or that have left their duty are beginning to collect and convince others to vacate their duties. The problem has become un-ignorable and the heavens have sent a few policing units to assess the extent of the problem, and if possible, eliminate them. The rebelling angels will even attempt, and sometimes succeed, to convince the soldiers to join them.

indentThis conflict is beginning to be felt in Heaven (as in the main offices for angel deployment). Inner-conflict is brewing, and tensions are rising. Heaven is in turmoil as the angels go to war.

User ImageindentMost of the angels on Earth are not prepared for combat, but the numbers of the rebels is growing, and the angels that continue their duties are to do so instead of fighting the rebelling group.

indentA guardian angel usually dies when the charge is almost killed, and always when the charge 'should have died'. Various other things can cause a guardian to perish, but nothing else specific to them. When the charge dies, the guardian is then charged to guide the soul to the proper after life, and is then sent to another charge.

indentThe soul captors are usually former guardians that can't be placed. These angels have the duty of taking souls of the dead to the afterlife realm best for them, considering who they were, and their chosen religion. Some live a life that leaves the soul on Earth, or reborn.

indentOther angels are present, but are given specific missions, or are part of the soldier class for the mission of gathering information on the rebels and crushing them.

-Hell is one of the afterlife realms, it is for bad souls. It is run and maintained by angels. No evil angels are in employment, but some are imprisoned in Hell. Demons don't exist, except as a title of the evil angels.

-There is one all-mighty, but all of the gods created by all species on Earth exist as demi-gods, and are the head overseers of their individual after-life realms.

Profiles

Username: Sir Awesomealot
Character name: Alekzander Maikov
Role: former guardian angel, now connected to the rebels
User ImageAppearance: Zander is a large, powerful man; which is required for life in Northern Russia. Usually he will be found to have unkempt hair, an unshaven jaw and in need of bathing. His jaw lines are quite linear, often made more obvious by his dark and often long hair. His body is capable of a long day of hard labor, even in the difficult conditions of the cold North of Russia. This image portrays his battle uniform, which is a cloth woven with some metal threads, and some enchanted fibers; thus, the uniform is flexible, but can protect to an acceptable degree. It is rare he would bother to comb his hair or wear this uniform, as it makes it a bit obvious that he is a renegade angel. Instead, his is most often seen wearing two large, warm coats, thick, heavy boots, and a leather cap that ties under his chin and protects his ears. Underneath his coats, he wears only thermal under pants and canvas pants. Shirts are too difficult to deal with because of his wings. The coats serve a dual purpose of hiding his wings well, while also protecting him from the harsh weather. He is a towering 6' 7".
History: On his final two guardian assignments, Zander came to the realization that his duties went far beyond merely a job. Both charges were human, as he had long proven himself worthy and capable of the more demanding assignments. The more he scrutinized his position, the more he found himself merely a dog of a system that counted him as a number, such as a pawn allowed to jump across the board without anyone caring about the traditional usages of the piece. Both of those assignments had him stationed primarily in Moscow. He had been previously approached to join the rebels, but refused both instances. He was a loyal man, with principals and a strong sense of duty. However, when his last charge's time to die, he left for the rebels. He had come to the decision that mortals were capable of caring for their own matters. Zander had seen how fewer and fewer angels tied to a being from birth remained into adolescence. Humans had found power, power to sever the birth bond with an angel without even knowing it, they had the power to destroy each other in massive quantities. What heaven was doing, was very little and he was sick of being a dog, especially to an organization with no visible goal. He joined the rebels, not for the goal, but for the relative freedom.
General Information: While no angel could perish from cold temperatures or biting winds, they still weren't pleasant. While Zander, like most angels, was capable of making himself invisible to humans, it would require him to shed his coats and fly; for otherwise, each step he made as an invisible specter would be immortalized in the ice and snow. No, it was far more comfortable, simple, and useful to hide his wings and pose as a human. He fit in, knew the language, and knew the terrain. The base he joined was hidden in the wilderness regions of Russia, within the boundary for the arctic circle.
Zander's abilities also fit the region. He is skilled with hand-to-hand combat, and with weapons that would be easily assessable, such as a bottle or a plank. The rebels taught him swordsmanship with a rapier, and how to use magic to defend. Before being stationed on Earth, he had already studied how to use the natural energy around him, and his own energy. Natural energy is most often unused energy from life or electricity in the air, but where life is scarce he found another version, that of nature itself. His magic is most frequently used to enhance is already superior strength, but he also practices funneling it through weapons, or using the energy itself as a weapon by forming it, but these are not his strong points.
Alekzander is probably weakest for his lingering loyalty to Heaven, the organization that has fed him and given him work for well over a century. His loyalty to the rebels is entirely practical, and void of sentimental attachment. He was never specifically trained to fight against angels until he joined the rebels, and because of the minimally organized base it was not a very thorough training. His strength and ability is mostly for protecting charges that a fond of getting into fights they could barely survive on their own.

User ImageZander was walking through Noril'sk, a large city in the region. He was purchasing food and other supplies on orders from the rebel group. They had to get a lot of things on their own, because buying in large quantities would be suspicious, but somethings could not be gone without, and required planned missions to obtain, as well as currency. He had been in this city for two-and-a-half weeks and had begun to dislike it more with each passing hour.
Zander rolled his shoulders and neck, still walking in the marketplace. His wings ached from the constant stillness and restraints. He hated the air that made it feel as though he was constantly breathing through an air filter that should have been replaced five years prior. He was sickened by these people that could live here, even work here and contribute to this wretched air that would dye his wings black if he could no longer resist stretching them. Even the cloth around his face to keep out some of the wind had darkened and could do little to make the air better. Beneath his mask, his skin was fithier than it was normally due to the air pollution.
He sighed, and turned to a stall to negotiate a price for a swath of leather. This was a mining city after all, but surely something could be done to make it slightly more bearable. He never liked his missions to this city, but it was odd to be so removed from humans that he continually and mistakenly volunteered every so often. He wanted to return to Moscow, but his superiors chided him about the stupidity of that, reminding him that he was a wanted criminal with ties to that city and angels there were on alert to destroy him. Destroy, that is what he'd been told. Not apprehend, not kill, not something less vivid than destroy, but actually and only that word that brought images of lynching into his mind.
Zander shuddered, but it appeared to just be a shiver from the biting winds. The clerk was impatient, and wanted to move on to other customers, but was stubbornly sticking to the listed price for the leather. Maybe when the rebels set to decimate human civilization, if that was what they were planning (he never bothered to ask), he could request poor, insignificant Noril'sk. He'd like that, turning the city into a giant air filter. The large man chuckled and walked away, using this one last tactic to get his price. Sure enough, the clerk was about to tend to the next customer but called back to Alekzander and offered something between the prices the men were arguing between a brief moment earlier. After a few more minutes, and almost walking away again, Zander got a good price, and traded coins for the leather. It was time to head back to his lodgings and check for any communications.
