Sometimes, there were days that you just don't have time to stop and smell the roses.
Today wasn't one of those days. It seemed to slug by, and it left Mapatano lying in some patch of.. plants. A wide enough variety, but he supposed it was a good spot for plants to grow. It had the right amounts of shade, sun and humidity here, at this little corner of the valley. Some had a bit of a scent to them, and he could assume they were herbs of some kind, but didn't really pay attention.
He didn't enjoy these kinds of days too often. Usually he'd be annoyed by the lack of activity, but for now he actually felt rather... relaxed. And it was nice. He lay there just thinking lazily of certain things, and it didn't take long for his mind to wander to the earthquake, but it didn't sting as much as it once had. Time had passed. Mapatano would always be a sourpuss, but he just wasn't angry anymore. Sure, he'd still hate the lions who'd taken advantage of the pride (his pride. And he still mourned for those lost, sigh for her who was never even his to lose.
But time had passed. The hurt was there but he didn't mind anymore. Now he was somehow... happy.
... Still didn't mean he liked boring days that much. Today was a fluke. He was rather liking lying here.

With Dizi keeping an eye out above and Haili off picking some herbs she'd wanted to teach the other lioness about she figured she could go hunt down her favorite ones. She knew exactly where the pile of sweet smelling herbs was and she couldn't wait to get to them and roll in them so her fur smelled like the flowers.
She hadn't expected to see someone laying in her favorite pile of flowers. After she pouted for a moment she recognized the dark coat. Mapa wasn't someone she'd expected to see just lying about.
"You know. You're going to smell rather girly if you sleep there." She laughed softly

Mapa reacted somewhat slowly, since he had, in fact, almost begun to fall asleep. And then he was trying to place the voice, because his reaction would definitely depend on whomever was speaking. He lazily opened an eye to look up at Ashki.
"I'll smell better than most males in this place, then. " He shrugged. If he did end up smelling like a female, then he'd like to see someone (besides Hisa) call him out on it. Not that Mapatano was intimidating, as far as size went. But only a few people really bothered messing with him.
"Am I in the way of some harvesting? " He asked lazily, but didn't yet make a move to stand.

She laughed softly and shook her head. Mapatano had never really intimidated her like the others but that probably had to do with how little she really came in contact with him outside of her work. All the lions seemed the same to her really, everyone was grumpy when they came to the doctor so she never took it personally.
"No. I was going to roll in the flowers myself ... since they smell nice." And there was no sense in her smelling like some of the herbs she gathered. Not all of them were pleasant.

"Ah. " He nodded, closing his eyes but rolling somewhat on his feet, to move somewhat further on the patch of flowers before flopping down again. Though it was a little odd for him to willingly stay in the company of a random person, he had completely gotten into relaxation mode, and wasn't too intent on moving.
"There's room for both of us. I suppose I'll stay longer, then go roll in something for masculine. Like dung. "

Her nose scrunched at the idea. "Then you'd smell horrible though and no one ....well you might like that side effect." If he smelled like dung no one would want to be around him and with Mapa's usual habits that wouldn't be a bad idea for him.
"Thank you though." She smiled as she flopped down in the flowers

He nodded slightly, as well as he could with his face against the floor. "Scent of a man. " He wrinkled his nose. "Feminine" as it was, Mapatano did actually like the scent of flowers. He just didn't bother with the smell of things too often.
After a few moments of silence, Mapatano actually felt the urge for something very weird. Small talk. Oh my. "How is your apprentice? Learning? " Though, of course it was a little interesting to him. Her apprentice was rogue-born, after all.

"Hali? She's learning really well." She smiled as she flicked her tail in the flowers. "She seems really interested in everything so she's eager for whatever lessons i have for the day." It was so nice to have an apprentice too. It meant she could relax a little and she could make sure more of the pride was taken care of.
"She's collecting herbs at the moment i think, at least that's what i asked her to do"

"Hmm, that's good. " He nodded. It was very good. ven just one more healer would be wonderful. Not that the pride was often in need of them, thankfully, but it seemed that when they did, they really did.
Mapa opened his eyes and looked up, momentarily distracted by something. Then he sighed. "So, what would you give a bird for some cuts and bruises? "

"Your partner isn't hurt are they?" She shifted so she could half sit up and look at him. "If they are you should have brought them to me." She didn't like it when others were hurt and didn't tell her so she could help.
"I'd disinfect the cuts first and put on a paste to keep out dirt for a bit .... and there's a salve i can make for bruises that makes them heal a bit faster"

"Oh, no. Not.. yet, anyways. " He said, keeping his eyes upward cast. Because he was pretty sure that was Hisa, and that was another bird chasing her. He didn't worry too much, it wasn't really the first time she'd gotten into trouble, and she was much bigger.
"I'm guessing she either caught a mouse and is getting robbed, or she stole that mouse and the other bird isn't too happy. " He snorted, sitting up and shrugging.

She looked up to the birds in the sky that Mapa was commenting on. "... i hope the smaller one isn't Dizi." Usually he didn't go that high and she wasn't sure with how tiny he was he'd even be visible up there but there was a chance. "he is rather easy to annoy though"
Dizi usually kept himself out of trouble but she hadn't seen him for a bit and usually he was sitting on her somehow annoying her

"Ooh, that would be uncomfortable. " He frowned, he hated it when Hisa got in trouble with another bonded bird. Fortunately, she didn't do it too often, but he remembered himself as a much younger lion, hopelessly trying to shelter his bonded (and vice-versa) from a very angry, very big lion. It really didn't help that, at the time, people were still very, very sour about the whole your-dad-is-a-tyrant deal.
"Ah, she spotted us. " And it didn't take long for Hisa to start her descent. She began in the more slow way at first, spiraling downwards, but then the smaller bird seemed to collide with her back and she decided it was time to get out of there fast. She dropped the mouse and tucked her wings in, diving towards Mapatano.
She made a mistake looking back to see if she was still being chased, and instead of her typical, graceful landing, Hisa opened her wings a bit too late and crashed awkwardly into her bonded's front leg. Somehow, Mapa didn't seem fazed.
"Uuh. Hi, Mapa. "

She covered her muzzle with a paw as she tried not to laugh at Mapa's bonded. She'd never seen a clumsy bonded bird before and it was amusing to see one practically crash land into their bond. It didn't seem like she'd hurt herself so that was a good sign.
Up in the air he caught the mouse that had been stolen from him earlier and cursed his small size. Spiraling around he looked for his bond and sagged as he realized that his tormentor had gone that way too. Just his luck.
Tucking the mouse close he slowly descended so he could maybe hide behind Ashiki and eat in peace.

Mapa snorted, lifting a paw to idly pat his bonded on the head. "I think that was your best landing yet! " To this, Hisa fluffed up slightly, irritated. She usually had beautiful landings, thankyouverymuch! "Give me a break, I was being pursued! " She grumbled, and shot a pointed glance, just in time to see the smaller bird hide behind his bonded.
"I'm sure you deserved it. I'm sorry Hisa stole your food, Dizi. " The black lion said, frowning slightly. He was sure Hisa would have known this was someone's bonded! He'd needed to be healed before.
"I did not! Well, not from his beak anyway. We just went for the same kill...andIgottherefirst. " Sure, maybe Dizi had seen it first, but hey, he had been too slow! Sure, maybe she could have been more delicate about the whole ordeal, you know 'oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were hunting this!' instead of 'It's mine I caught it!' But she just wasn't in a delicate mood today! Sothere.
