Green orbs stared unwaveringly at the swollen belly of the mare standing before him, a pleased smile upon her face. Instantly he was reminded of his mate during her pregnancy and the unsettling feelings returned. Now his daughter was the one carrying the burden and the possibility of her having to carry it alone was very real. His ears flipped back as he listened to Fearthainn tell of her excitement for this new experience. Bella was near but Callan found it hard to fight off the ice that began crystallizing in his stomach from building and festering. He was happy for her euphoria but at the same moment he was concerned for her future. The fact that he hadn’t even met Alexiel unsettled his nerves further. Speaking from the old ways this would be considered treason against the family. Squeezing his eyes shut he lowered his head and attempted to remember the laws of the present. He still loved Fearthainn dearly and he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her. Leaning to the side he felt Bella’s warm body beside him, feeding him strength though she was unaware of it. “I’m happy for you my darling.” He choked. “Your mother and I will be pleased to be the grandparents of your children.” Stepping forward, ignoring the weight his hooves seemed to have gained, he nuzzled his daughter. Upon taking his steps back his eyes once again stuck to her stomach and the lives that were growing within. He stole a quick glance over his shoulder at Bella, seeking her approving glance. He had overcome generations of teaching and beliefs and he hoped she would be proud of him for doing so. In the midst of these thoughts another revelation hit him, nearly knocking the held breath from his lungs. He was to be a grandfather, was he truly that old now? He could have laughed humorlessly at that prospect. Of course he was old enough to be a grandfather; in fact, he was old enough to be a grandfather a hundred times over. “I still would like to meet the father though.” He added with a huff. There was no way he would let this stallion go without an introduction, at this point he didn’t even know what the children would look like for the lack of the father’s image in his mind.
Sighing, he waited for Bella to step in with the cute way she always got excited about things. All of his children were around him; lives he never believed would be in existence. He saw a little of himself in each of them, his inner strength, the green of his eyes. Bella’s traits were most prominent to him; of course, it wasn’t easy to find the mare he loved in every aspect of life. Each of their offspring had her fire and beauty and, needless to say, a little bit of her clumsiness. He realized that he was probably feeling so sick about this situation because Fearthainn was the first born, the first life from him and now he was inches from having to admit she was full grown. Looking at Edana he smiled warmly, the second born but equally as important, he would hate it when she found a stallion of her own to be with. The fact he needed to admit was that his children were grown and perfectly capable of having children of their own.
Tossing a stern look at Edana his maw curved in a scolding line that was more playful than he would have liked to admit. “You, young lady, will wait before having kids.” He had to be a father sometimes right? He couldn’t let Edana or Searlait know that he completely condoned an act like this. Turning to Bella he looked at her sweet face and instantly felt calm rushing over him like the cool waters of the stream over which they had first met. “You ready to be an old grandma my love?”**** Though her father attempted to hide his disapproval Fearthainn could see it clearly within the eyes that her own were modeled after. Not only that but the tension in his body and his stunned silence helped her to deduce further. Even so, her eyes never left his; she wouldn’t allow him to intimidate her though she was sure that wasn’t what he was trying to do. As his gaze slipped to her belly as did hers, she could feel the life forms within forming and becoming whole. Within her a feeling had begun to bubble, an urge to please Alexiel and see a smile on his face. She had witnessed the bond between her mother and father and never thought it possible within the world. She had always imagined that her parents were just special but she had seen the same bond among other Soquili. A reminiscent smile passed over her face as she began remembering the rationality of lack thereof about what she was saying. Her father’s voice directed her from the haze back to the faces of her parents. “Thank you father, mother.” She responded simply. Though her father clearly had some issues with the entire ordeal she could tell her dear mother would support her and help her learn a thing or two about foals. No matter how much her dad protested everyone could tell that Bella had done him a world of good and had changed him for the better. “I love you.” She mumbled. Feelings weren’t really her department but she had heard others state those words before and somehow they just seemed to make sense at that instant. Perhaps Alexiel would like to hear such words? The thought shocked her and caused her to imperceptibly twitch. Where had that come from?
Turning about she faced her siblings, shaking off the previous thoughts, and approached Edana. Though the others were her siblings as well she had always felt closest to the fiery red headed thief of the family. “Well,” she hesitated a moment before continuing, “what do you think Ed?” Her sister’s opinion mattered so much to her, so much more than she realized. Edana and her had shared their foal hood with one another, had gotten scrapes and bruises together and had tattled on each other for minute things that really shouldn’t have mattered at the time. She remembered one instance where she and Ed had gone swimming and, Ed being the sneaky thief she was, took off hiding away from Ainn’s sight, causing her to nearly die of a heart attack. She only imagined what her parents would say when she had to explain to them how her younger sister had just magically appeared. No amount of rationality or logic would have saved her from that pit. Then another thought hit her, had her father just told Ed to wait to have babies? Raising a brow Fearthainn telepathically stated the sentence she had already figured to be true. “You haven’t told him about Sam yet.” Her eyes read unmistakably. They would all be in trouble now, even Searlait was in a relationship and here their poor father thought all but one was single. Upon figuring that out she shot Searlait the same look concerning Ahote. This truly was to be an eventful evening; no one could refuse that solid deduction.**** Searlait watch the spectacle before her unfold with unhindered delight. She always loved seeing her father attempt to contain himself when he had begun to get all lathered up. Usually her mother would have to shoulder him out of her way and give him time to blow off steam while she shared in excitement and understanding. She was pleasantly surprised to see how well her father was holding up, saying he was happy for Ainn and all. I must have been killing him that he hadn’t met Alex yet, in fact, none of them had and that made even Sea feel a little left out of the loop. When it came to the older sisters Searlait always found that she had been closer to Edana, perhaps because Ed was a little looser than Fearthainn. Never the less, Ainn had given her some good advice and had helped her accomplish things she wouldn’t have been able to without some wisdom to guide her. Who was she kidding? On numerous occasions all members of her family had saved her from stupidity or death, no one helped more than the others. Sighing she moved from her place in the back and approached Ainn as she was speaking to Ed. She just couldn’t help it any longer, it was so big and round and right there! Gently she nudged her nose against her sister’s belly and let it hover there a moment as she awaited the feel of a kick or nudge or something. It was an odd concept to think that something living was within her sister’s body. Not that her organs weren’t living material and whatnot but these would actually leave her body and enter this world to interact with the rest of the family.
“What do you think?” She asked Arthur. “Do you think it will have wings or not? I heard the father is an angeni.” She stated cockily while looking at her two older sisters. Fearthainn had mentioned Alex’s wings only once but from her description Searlait could imagine that they were quite lovely. She couldn’t wait to meet this mystery so to be father of the year. That is, if her father didn’t rip him to shreds first for knocking up his daughter without permission. “Hey mom, did you look like this the both times you were pregnant?” She asked, gazing at her sister’s expanded frame. That was enough to make a mare want to hide out until she gave birth, not to mention it looked like quite a load to carry. This was Searlait’s first experience with a pregnant mare and she found herself wanting to ask many questions. She figured her mom had been big, but was she as big as Ainn? Then another thought that for once had her blushing hit her, she would look like this if she and Ahote ever….GULP! Not a good time to be thinking of such things when she and Edana had somehow managed to avoid telling their father of their lovers. “Uhm…Daddy…” She started sweetly. “Now that Ainn’s good news has been brought to light I have some of my own. I have a mate…” She trailed off. This was going to be entertaining.
