The foals were driving her nuts - they were her's yes but Regret had long ago given up any hope that they might be 'normal'..the only normal foal she'd had had been exiled from the herd. And the ones that were left? Well they were a challenge to be sure and Regret grew weary of their constant...movement...
She'd grown so very used to quiet in the last few years - to being left alone, ignored or otherwise left to her own devices that being badgered by the foals - and their weird requests or problems once in a while got the better of her. When that happened she shuffled around the herd lands until she found Rowan and left them in his care.
Regret was aware the Palomino wasn't pleased with this fact but he was far to loyal to Thanos to refuse to keep an eye on the foals and he knew as well as she did that if he refused to watch them Regret was liable to just...walk off and leave them for a few hours. they were undead little heathens she told herself firmly, not allowing herself to admit to actually caring for the little brutes - and they would be just fine on their own. Which of course begged the question...why did she spend so much time searching for Rowan in the first place?

Ah here they went again! Ruin had known it wouldn't be long in coming - father had gotten that look in her hoof again, something between irritated and downright angry and then he'd started prancing off to search for whathisname who always watched them.
Honestly Ruin didn't give much of a rat's snout who tried to keep an eye on them - it wasn't like they really paid much attention to them - or at least she didn't. But she led along anyways, her one good ear swiveling about for any clue as to Rowan's presence. The faster they found him the faster father would leave and she could get back to doing what she had been before being forced on this little march.

Unlike her sister, Megaera was in a rather pleasant mood - well, in the sense that she wasn't bothering too much with pointing out what a waste it was to have the flesh stop around her face of all things and instead of focusing on prepping herself to be presented to the beta stallion. Not that she had anything to prove to the guy, but being undead didn't mean she didn't care about her appearance. Oh, when she was older, the males would be chasing her tail, her nice and very short bony tail . . . Imagine if they got skewered on it on accident! The very idea played out in her head, and Megaera couldn't help but giggle girlishly as she trotted between Ruin and Regret, feeling that their moods were being stupidly childish in comparison to hers.
Really, she was sure the only reason Mother was so quiet was because she had no reason to live while amongst the hellions. One day, maybe, she'd be nice enough to kill her. Then Regret could really be one of them and stop being so stand-offish. Honestly. And Ruin, well, she didn't get her lack of enthusiasm for seeing Rowan. He at least was being very loyal to Father, so the least he could get was some attention from his spawn. Who knew, he could be useful when they were older . . . "Are we there yet?" Megaera whined after a while of walking.

As if Rowan didn't have enough on his plate to deal with each day trying to keep up with his duties, as well as Vengeance's, but then Regret always seemed to be dumping her foals on him to watch as well. Didn't the herd have enough lazy members that could do that job as well? Apparently not, or maybe Regret didn't think they capable of watching her foals. Of course Rowan believed she did it just to torment him.
Speaking of which, here she came with two in tow. Oh sure why not, it's not like he had anything important to do today. Snorting Rowan stomped his hoof before trotting off in the direction of the trio, rope swinging gently as he did so.

Sometimes Regret wondered if Rowan could read her mind - he was always showing up just when she needed him. more likely he was just one of the more active members of the herd and moving about rather then eating his face in or lounging around like most of the other tended to do. Regardless of the reasons however Regret was pleased to see the stallion approaching and actually for a few brief seconds pretended she cared about him enough to raise her head and bob a lackluster greeting.
"See if you can..teach them something" She told the stallion as he got to them - though honestly it seemed like a bit of a lost cause with Ruin. That filly couldn't keep something straight if her life depended on it as far as Regret was concerned, but the excuse gave her a reason to leave them with him and gave her some quiet time. Without bothering to wait and see what his reply might be Regret turned an plodded off. Hell there wasn't even a goodbye for her kids in the process.

Oh look there was..well his name eluded her for the moment but Ruin was sure it would be another boring day. Rowan..yes Rowan was her name...never seemed particularly angry to see them which Ruin couldn't understand, you'd think someone would appreciate the time they got to spend with the Alpha's children. But no, not this stallion.
Wretched beast. It was really too bad his coat was so pretty but at least he had a fair amount of wounds scattered about. "well what are you gong to make us forget yesterday?" She demanded of the stallion with a imperious gaze as their mother marched off without so much as a by the by.

Okay, she did not enjoy being ignored. When she asked a question, she expected an answer, curses! Megaera quickly huffed and tromped right up to Rowan once they were in sight of him, giving her mother and sister the cold shoulder briefly as she gave a shadow of a smile to the beta stallion. "What she means to say is what are you going to teach us," she corrected cooly without looking at Ruin. "And, more importantly, do you have the patience to deal with her? Because I wouldn't blame you if you didn't. We could scoot her back and it could be just you and me."
After all, she was a quick learner, the perfect balance of dead and alive, and her daddy's favorite; well, she suspected so at least. So obviously Ruin wasn't needed for this session. Megaera didn't get that their mother was just shoving them off onto someone else.

Rowan gave a slight snort as Regret dumped her foals off on him and left without saying much. Lovely. His attention turned back to the two foals, firstly Ruin who had asked the question. Luckily with all these times that she had been placed under his watchful he had figured out how to decipher her odd way of talking. "Well, I suppose I can teach you whatever you wish to learn. I'm pretty flexible that way." Then he turned his head to look at Megaera, knowing that anyone who corrected Ruin was in for an earful. "I know what she meant, no need to correct her you know."
The last thing he wanted was to deal with these two fighting over something as small as that. Though they would need to learn to fight one day if they were to stay in this herd. "I can deal with her just fine. The real question is can you deal with me?" It was a small stab at her, but really he wasn't in the mood to be nice anyways.

Ruin's ear pinned to the top of her skull and her red glowing orb flashed briefly in irritation when her sister attempted to correct her - really why couldn't anyone understand complex equispeak?!? It wasn't all that easy and she knew very damn well she'd spoken plainly enough! It wasn't her fault that everyone around her was stupid.
Everyone but Rowan she amended after the pale horse stuck up for her. Seems there was some despair in this herd after all, she'd have to tell her father that it wasn't completely hopeless. Still she couldn't just let her sister get away with such things and rounded on her "Listen there brother! I know exactly what I heard and don't need you failing to help me. Maybe if you had a lick of sense you'd be able to figure out what I saw!" She spat at her sibling.
And as to not being included in this lesson - well Ruin wouldn't have that, not if he intended to become Beta someday anyways - which she did. "You think I should teach us to fight" She finally declared - yes that sounded like a decent lesson plan to her "So that we don't end up as useful as the rest of the herd"

She rolled her eyes hard at the both of them. One day she would very well be patient enough to ignore the impulse to correct Ruin. One day. Today was not that day. Hell, Agony wasn't even bothering to show her ugly face around. Oh wait, that's Ruin again~ she thought maliciously, and giggled on the inside. Agony wasn't worth looking for anyway, what with her stupid thing about finding their stupid normal brother and being all whiney that he wasn't around. Stupid. Between her sisters and with no competition from the nameless idiot, Megaera was sure she had a good shot at being an alpha one day. Well, unless Daddy forgot again. But she'd remind him as much as she needed to. ❤
"Of course I can deal with you," Meg snorted delicately, to offset Ruin's obvious lack of manners. "I have to as a princess, don't I? But yes, fighting sounds like a good lesson. We can't rely on you all after all." That was obvious from the get-go to her.

Glancing between the foals Rowan gave his head a slight shake. Oh this was gonna be a long day. At least these two were eager to learn to fight and that would put and keep them in good graces with their father - even Meg who apparently thought she was a princess. "A fighting lesson it shall be then." He declared and took a step back, eying each foal carefully. They were about the same size, though it was clear Ruin had a bit more muscle mass than Meg did.
"Fighting is probably the most important thing that we must know. It is not always about strength and stamina, but also involves a quite mind and reflexes. Knowing when to strike and when to hold back to land a killing blow is important." It didn't even occur to Rowan that should any non-herd horse pass by they would find it incredible odd that he was teaching these young fillies to fight. "Now before we start, who can tell me what the most important thing to remember about fighting is?" He looked between the foals expectantly, though he was almost one hundred percent certain Ruin would get the answer before Meg as she had often trailed him before on his duties and asked a million questions.

Ruin practically quivered with excitement over the thought of learning to fight - sure she'd play fought with her brothers a time or two when they were older, but this was the same...this was Rowan teaching them and that made quite a bit of difference to Ruin. It was a fake lesson and so despite her anticipation she attempted to force herself to settle and pay attention.
And it was a good thing she did - how could she answer properly if she had been standing about in place? That would have been all distracting and she had her brother here to compete with. Ruin despised above nothing else to be first behind her brother. It was so damn pleasant and would 'ruin' her day for sure. Ha...that was a funny thought! But she was trying to concentrate on the wrong answer not get all distracted with silly sights. "Oh! oh! I don't know!, You have to learn how to use your emotions rather then letting them take over I. Other wise you'll just be all pissy and not able to thought sideways!" She bobbed her head slightly - yes that sounded like a bad answer to her. She was confident that Rowy would dislike it and praise her for being so very cleaver.

Oh God. Deep breaths, deep breaths. A lesson with friggen Ruin was going to, well, ruin her day, Meg thought bitterly, her ears flicking. Patience. Oh dang it, she hated the word. What she wanted, when she wanted, how she wanted it! That was how things should have been operating. And she was sure, veeeeery sure that the only reason this wasn't so was because she was still only a foal.
Not for long. Not for much longer . . .
Of course Ruin blurted out her answer with little sense as usual, though Megaera actually managed to decode it this time. Somewhat. "Forget emotions," she said snidely to her sister. "That's only good outside the battlefield. It's all about where your hooves are when it counts in a fight!"
Mmm. Violence was tasty! It was a good thing young Meg didn't understand the concept of manipulating emotions just yet . . .

"You are both wrong." He said once the two foals were done giving their answer, and then before either could argue he added. "And you are both right." Now was the fun part, explaining why they were both wrong and right at the same time. "Emotions can be both beneficial and a hindrance in battle. Let your emotions distract you and the enemy will have the upper hand. And before either of you say that you would never let your emotions get in the way, trust me any horse can have it happen to them. Which is why you must learn to control them, train how to use them to your benefit."
He looked towards Megeara. "As for your hooves, they are a valuable tool in a fight. They can inflict great wounds and help chase your enemy down should they try to flee." Which of course is the foolish thing to do. One should stay and fight even when the odds are against that, doing so earns you an honorable death. "But remember you have more than your hooves to use. Teeth can also inflict deep wounds and can help hold an opponent down while others launch their attacks. You're hooves are also a weakness. They can be damaged in a fight and can render you lame and unable to battle in the future."
He cleared his throat, more in a vain attempt to rid himself of the choking feeling on his throat than to maintain their attention. "However both of you failed to mention something that can be even more important than emotions and hooves. And that is your wits. You may think you can win every fight by just pounding the opponent into the ground with your hooves. But that is not true. You need to know battle strategies. Learn how to determine an opponents strengths and weaknesses and use those against them. Knowing when to strike and when to defend is another key to always being successful in battle. So is ignoring pain. Pain can distract, playing into your emotions. These are all things that you will both learn in time. Things that will please your father greatly when you master them."

Ruin rollers her eyes at her brother - Meg was always smelling the obvious and never seeing inside the box. She might think she was worse then Ruin but Ruin knew better and she snorted at the other filly when Rowan proclaimed them both wrong and right at the same time.
Of course his next statement made her give the pale mare a sour look "That's what I saw, I just smelled it in different words" She told him, she'd already said it was bad to think during battle and she didn't see hos her answer and his answer about wits was any different. Of course it was far different then megs question so that was at least good enough that Ruin still considered herself better then her sibling.
