Balto wandered about the forest, but he wasn't here simply for fun. He was hungry and needed to catch something eat. He sniffed the air....he caught a scent. His mouth began to water a little, it had been a few days since he last caught something, so it was time to eat. He walked until he found the tracks...a deer was near. He looked around, no one was near. Good, he didn't want someone stealing his kill.
He followed his nose and the tracks, until he spotted a brown figure not too far off. A young buck, perfect. Crouching low to the ground...Balto inched his way closer...and closer. He was a very good hunter, so he knew how to best muffle any noise made while walking. As he approached the deer, it blissfully ate some grass, completely unaware of the canine's presence. Still inching close...Balto needed the right moment...then as the deer turned its back to him he quickly leaped from the brush as he bounded towards the deer quickly.
It cried out in fear and started to run. As Balto got closer he threw his paw out, tripping the deer as he ran in and grabbed its throat. It kicked, and struggled, but after a few minutes it was over. Balto panted, that was a good catch! It was young, but good sized. This alone could keep him fed for a few days. Looking around, the draw back to not having a pack meant thieves could come and try to steal it. He would have to stash it somewhere but...where?

Inna was walking through the forest as well. However, keeping an eye out for smaller prey. Rabbits were interesting chase. Deers and Buck, even young where a bit too much to interest the lady wolf.
She paused, it seemed the wind had shifted just a little bit. Something had caught her sent, her nose wrinkled just a bit. "Mm... that smells heavenly."
The smaller canine began to walk towards the sent taking her time, and being careful not to startle anyone. When she got closer she tried to make herself as non-threatening as possible. She caught sight of a gray male and a young buck. Her tail flickered, "Hello" She said softly trying not to startle him.

The smell of blood from the fresh kill had over come Balto's senses to the point where he hadn't smelled the female wolf approaching him. However he did hear her as she got closer. Raising his head, he looked around, trying to find the intruder who wished to take his kill. However, when he noticed the female he loosened up a bit as he approached her.
"Hello my lady. What brings you here?" he asked her. Balto didn't want to give his kill to a thief, but he might be willing to share with this female. "Might I ask for your name Lady? I am Balto. If you wish you can eat with me, there is more then enough. So long as there aren't...more of you." he said as he looked around. Though he wasn't referring to pups, but rather a pack that could potentially be hunting with her.

Inna's ears perked curiously when he spoke. She smiled softly, "There's just me. I don't run with a pack. My name's Inna." She settled on her hunches as she answered him watching him for a second.
She of course answered the last question, first. However, the second answer was close behind. "I smelled the fresh blood, I was curious as to what it was." She replied softly as she watched him with a smile.
She licked her chops softly, "Are you sure?" She asked curiously as her tail flicked back and forth slowly.

"Ah I see. Well Inna, then you are welcome to join me." He nodded to her as he began to eat the deer. "Don't worry, you can have some. I cant eat it all, so I dont mind sharing with a pretty lady." said Balto with a wink.
He was more then willing to share his food with this pretty lady, and since she seemed to be alone, it just made things all the better!

She smiled as she nodded allowing the male to lead the way to the corpse. When she approached the deer, her tail flickered as she looked for where she wanted to dig her teeth into pondering somewhere near the hindquarter.
"What part do you like best?" She asked as it was his kill, it was only polite to let him have the first choice.

"I like the legs best, and the middle. But pick whatever you want, dont be shy." he said as he continued eating. His tail wagged a bit as he ate. Oh how he loved a good meal. When he was finished he sprawled out on the ground, licking his lips. He would have to bury his kill later so that no one took it.
"So what brings you out here Inna? Do you live in the forest or near by?" he asked her curiously. What was such a pretty female doing all alone? Balto found himself wandering all over, with no pack he had no specific location where he lived.

Inna's tail flicked as she started on one of the hind quarters, eating her fill. It'd been a while since she'd had a good meal. "I live where there's food. Normally mostly smaller stuff. Rabbits are fun to chase when there's nothing else."
One ear twitched, "What about yourself?" She asked curiously as she stretched out.

"Ah. I use to chase rabbits as a pup, though I guess since I got older it chasing foxes and polecats is more fun." he said with a laugh. THer wasn't much to eat in a rabbit anyways, it was all hair with little meat. Though it was a good starter catch for pups. "I just go where the wind takes me. I dont live in any particular place." he said as she grinned. He liked having her company. "So do you have a mate? Or a pack you grew up in?" he asked in wonder. Balto wasn't sure what happened to his parents, he's just use to wandering alone.

Inna shook her head, "No, no mate." She rolled her shoulders, "As for a pack I might've been in one when I was younger, but I can't really remember."
She was licking her paw and cleaning her face as she spoke. "Foxes are nice too, slower than rabbits a lot of the times. Rabbits I do more for sport and keeping fit." She added, sure there wasn't much meat but it was good for the occasional snack.

"Ah I see, too bad who would leave a pretty lady such as yoruself all alone?" he said with a grin, tail wagging a bit. "I dont remember my family, I was on my own pretty young." he said, obviously not too troubled by the lack of a family as he rolled around in the dirt. Oooh it felt nice!
"Yah, but once you catch them they are more fun. No good to eat but they make fun play toys." he said with a chuckle. He never killed them, just had fun with them. "Polecats are pretty fast though, rabbits bite a lot when you catch them though. A bit more of a pain then its worth." he said with a shrug of his shoulders.

Inna shrugged softly, "The same could be said about a fellow such as yourself, since you also seem to be alone."
Her tail flickered softly as she watched him.
"Hm, I'll have to keep that in mind." Inna added with a smile, "Rabbits only bite if you let them." Her tail flickered as she watched Balto, he was interesting, perhaps she'd have to continue to bug him at least for a little while.
"Do you not get lonely when there's no one else around?" She asked curiously. Wondering if he'd like at the very least a traveling partner for a while.

Balto nodded, that's true. "Ah yes, but as a male I things are a bit different. A lady should be cared for, not having to rough it alone." he said as he sat up.
"Yes, but I like to catch things a little bigger. But I will admit, a good rabbit chase every so often is quite enjoyable." he said with a chuckle as he looked to the deer. Hmm...he had to make sure not to forget to drag it back to his current den.
"Ah well, I am not so lonely now that you are here my dear." he said with a wink.

Inna nodded, "I suppose things are. Still though." She paused to stretch her legs. She gave a soft grin, "I don't see capable males alone often."
Her head bobbed in a nod, "Yes, it is indeed, as long as you avoid any unpleasantness. Such as a startled pole cat." She wrinkled her nose, "Not a very happy meet that makes."
She chuckled, "Though startling a polecat before you see it is often careless."
When he said he wasn't so lonely while she was no there she lofted a brow, "Ah well the same goes for me then." She seemed to be sizing him up. "I say perhaps you'd like some company for a little while? It'd be nice to have someone to speak with for a few days, before we decide to go our own ways if that's the case." A smile danced across her maw in a curious fashion.

"True, but rabbits startle easier then polecats. I get its the pray instinct, tells them to run." he said. Polecats were little predators, but even a fellow predator made a fun toy from time to time.
"Well, I try not to be so careless I startle my prey. Some just jump at any slight sound. Even if its a bird building a nest." he said with a chuckle, scooting a little closer.
"Ah well its nice to know I am good company for you my lady." he said with a nod of his head. "I would be honored to have your company for however long you require. I need someone to share all this meat with. And hunting is easier is numbers. Maybe next time we could get a bigger catch." he said with a grin. It was true though, that's why wolf packs were so effective.
