The Thicket was unlike any seen in the wood before. Herla knew that young were carefully nestled within and traits of who they were to become surrounded them. Why, even the blooms that grew took on a tone to represent the young soul within. It was not uncommon to see two or even three thickets together, with one or two parents keeping a loving watchful eye.
This Thicket Stood Alone.
There were no siblings.
No watchful Parent.
Indeed it was in a far darkened almost barren part of the wood almost as if I had been purposefully abandoned.
Forsaken.
The Trees surrounding it were bleached white like bone. The leaves and bushes around it rotting. And, in a pool of freshly spilt blood a dead crow. The leaves rustled, and a tongue peaked through. The infant fawn gave a lonely mewling sound as it lapped up the blood.

It was one of those off days, the sky was quiet and gray, a brooding color that promised of rain. The air and the forest still, silent, a truly strange thing considering the place was usually so full of life. Not even the insects seemed to be buzzing about..
Tilting his head to gaze darkly at the clouds above before moving on from his scratching post of sorts..Catching the faintest of familiar scents, the scent of copper, metallic and cold. Barely a hint of it caught up in a slow breeze, but Vega knew the scent well. Of course he preferred it when the scent was hot, still warm with life, but even a cold trail was one worth following.
A ghostly mewl caught Vega's attention, the sound standing out loudly against the otherwise silence of the place. A fragile sound that spoke of weakness, maybe even a young prey. A sudden splash of crow feathers and white appearing behind the tree's as he trailed deeper into the forest.
The tall buck tilting his head in curiosity, wide eyes traveling over the decayed bundle of leaves and twigs that made up..what appeared to be a thicket? "Tsk..what bit of bile is this.." He wondered, maybe if the creature inside had perished. Surely it was some poor dead fawnling that had been abandoned, the mess not wanting to be dealt with by whomever its parents were. Though that didn't explain the presence of the dead crow. The body was too fresh..was whatever had killed it still around?

The young fawn inside froze its crimson eyes watching the silent adult through the rotted leaves. It's hunger though got the best of it however and its skeletal tail thrust out of the leaves. The small tufts of black and crimson hair growing from it pushing aside the debris as the tip of barbed bone ripped into the crows body pulling out thin shreds of raw bird meat. The fawn carefully slipped those bloodied shreds into it's mouth.

Vega hissed surprised by the strangeness of the thing that flitted from the covering of rotted leaves and twigs, amazed and confused by the coloring..bone and fur...plucking at the small bird carcass like a hungry scorpion. Resisting the urge to take a step away, far to fascinated by whatever it was that had taken up residency in the obviously abandoned fawn thicket..
"Dear gods..it's a.." he had to blink, stepping closer and lowering his head, watching the meat craving babe slurp up its catch hungrily. "Its an it..Hah, a deadly little it. An absolutely magnificent little devil aren't you? Barely old enough to suckle and already your catching prey." Eyes flashing, taking a better look around, still no one seemed to be here, no parents, no talons..nothing, just a fawn and a crow. So completely and utterly abandoned.. "Something certainly didn't want you did it? Yet here you are, proof of survival of the fittest." Vega found himself cooing uncharacteristically, normally he abhorred little ones, small fluffy, too happy things. He'd never allow himself to get caught up in the raising of newborns. No, doe's were meant to be done and done with..nothing more.
Something about this one though.."You know, someone should probably put you out of your misery? After all, what can become of such a thing." Boldly leaning in close, poking his own nose in through the thickets leaves to sniff at the small creature inside.

The fawn watched Vega warily keeping its eyes on him but head level not exposing it's throat. Even though it had no horns yet this was a defensive maneuver that any adult would notice. As it slowly sniffed vega's scent it ever so quietly raised it's tail to strike, just incase. It waited, not sure if he was a foe, but like any starving predator not willing to risk it either.

((Ahmg..I love pans labyrinth! -wiggles- Aww such a cute thicket behb!)
Vega grinned sharply, a small swell of pride and wonder swirling in his chest at the fawns instinctual reaction to his presence. It didn't squeal for its mother or cower like most fawns would, no instead it chose to stare him down, his deadly little weapon at the ready..such a unique and painful looking tail. An attitude that promised darkness, even before it could walk."Heh, deformed to cuteness aren't you..and unnaturally clever.." Vega chuckled darkly, daring the little fawn to strike as he pushed his head further into the thicket. Roughly running his his tongue across the sniffing fawns face.
"And you taste like blood, a crow is hardly a meal fit for you though." He huffed at the messy fawn, daring to lick it once more. He'd have to teach it..watch it grow..and maybe he would find it enjoyable, raising such a beast up in the world. "Your going to be a little bundle of joy aren't you?" A demonic little bundle, he shouldn't have been considering it, but who better then he to handle such a fawn?

The Fawn snuffled and allowed Vega to lick him. He lowered his tail slightly before leaning forward and licking Vega as well rubbing it's face on his own, imprinting with the scent of blood in the air. Carefully, slowly it gently pricked him taking a mere drop of his blood. It would know him now. It looked at Vega, as if waiting for a similar exchange. A family pact signed in blood.

Vega allowed himself a low chuckle as the fawn returned his affection with a tiny lick and nuzzle of its own. His tongue feeling more like soft sandpaper..maybe something akin to a cats..then anything normal. An almost prickly tongue. His small face covered in the drippings from his meal leaving a smear across vega's muzzle, his stomach growling slightly at the reminder of food..He'd certainly go hunt something down after this, something more substantial then crow.
The hinds nose scrunching up, snorting lightly when the tiny bit in the thicket pricked his skin, lapping up the small bead of blood that escaped the superficial mark. The meaning was simple enough to understand..the fawnlet knew blood..seemed to feel completely safe with it, and so an exchange seemed fair, like trading trust.
"Surely your an old demon trapped in some small body..and yet despite your looks you manage to be, very nearly adorable." Adorable, and how terrifying would he be when he grew? Returning the mark, Vega nuzzled the young-ling once more before gently nipping a corner of his ear. Licking away the drop of red copper that beaded up from the sharp bite. "Now your mine, blood and bone little demon.." A name was needed surely, but that would come later..this was all fine for now. "At least I know you can take care of yourself when I go out to play, I doubt even the meanest of things would dare deal with the likes of you. Heh..your a bit like scorpion..a demon scorpion..the smaller they are, the more deadly you know." He mused, the silence of the fawn seeming to bring out his chatty side.

The Fawn gave a mewl like purr, and nosed Vega more openly now, at last lowering his tail completely. and licking at Vega's fur in quiet affection. It looked up at him almost reverently, for Vega had chosen him when abandoned and his love and devotion, however twisted their concept of it might be, to Vega, now his father would be absolute.

"Tsk..trying to butter me up by acting all sweet now aren't you? Don't think I'll be so kind as you grow. I expect you to learn how to take care of yourself." As if the little one wasn't already, snorting softly he allowed the affection, enjoying it just a bit. The warm sound of the fawns voice.."I'm honestly glad your not expecting milk or something, I'm no doe. First things first, we need to get this moved..get you something better then crow-food to chew on." Vega grinned sharply, glancing about the darkened woods..Truly the fawn was in a safe spot, hidden away, no one seemed to have ventured here in quite a while.
The crow simply had to be replaced, hardly a fitting meal for a growing pipsqueak, and the blood would attract things.."s**t..explain to me how one ugly little demon drags me to care so much mnn? We'll? I'd best get an answer from you..adorable little nippet..." Pulling his head away as he stalked about the thicket. Making his first priority to snatch up what little was left of the crow and toss it off as far as he could, nasty feathered things. Hovering about the thicket and scraping some dirt over the slowly drying blood. "Feathers are nasty..fur though, fur is good for growing bucks. You are a buck aren't you." He querred curiously, giving the little bit a strange look. So many questions he had for this one, so many it'd probably never be able to answer.

The youngling said nothing as usual but instead nosed a high pile of leaves and brush and pushed the fallen twigs to support it. Once it seemed pleased it burrowed beneath it. The only thins slightly uncovered being a few inches of barbed tail, gleaming red eyes and the very tip of it's nose. It was now laying in wait perfectly still. And not but a few moments later a rabbit came scurrying by, and did not see the danger it sensed.
Too late it saw a flash of whiplike white, as the barbed tail drove completely through it's neck. It gave a a dying scream. Shuddered and was done. Pulling its tail free it used the barbed tip to cut away fur with terrifying percisision. Once peeled away the fawn stopped. It then pushed out it's head and looked to Vega.

Vega gaped, impressed, shocked, absolutely awed, a whole slew of things inspired by such a small white fawn. "Well screw me sideways and call me a hind..." Marveling at the precision and the speed for a few moments, the look the fawn gave him as if asking for approval, or maybe the brat was just mocking him. "Honestly your going to steal all of my fun if you keep that up." Vega growled shooting the small hart a glare, the tone more playful then angry as he was loath to shower the youngling in too much affection.
"That was..good..You certainly have a talent with that tail of yours don't you. Even skinned it down.." Vega chuckled absently, by the gods was he glad the fawnlet was on his side! Taking up the rabbit by the head, biting down hard on the small creatures skull. Giving the lifeless body a shake as the head came away with a crunch, enjoying that part especially for himself. "Yur lucky.." Taking in the limp ears and juices with a slight slurp, nosing the rest of the catch close to the thicket. "Normally I'd take the whole rabbit myself, but since you seem so starved." He particularly didn't want the little fawn taking his flesh and nipping at his bones. "I'm complied to ask if you want me to chew this up for you." Vega barked with a laugh, rather imagining after all that he'd seen, the babe had to have teeth like a piranhas!

The Fawn made a purring sound and began quick work of its meal first it cleaned its tail of excess fur from its kill by running it repeatedly over part of it's exposed bone. It made a click-click-click-sound as slid back and forth. The fawn did indeed have tiny sharp teeth but they could only be utilized for gripping at this point seeing as it was supposed to have a parent to provide shredded meat. The tiny male instead used his tail and was soon slurping bleeding strands of rabbit meat.
All the while it's tail stayed at the ready ears twitching listening for any threat that might make itself known while he was distracted eating.

He watched on with a curious face..should he have been doing that instead? Not that he'd stoop to such things as pre-fixing a meal for the little bit, but still..what did parents do for they're fawns? There were pleanty enough of the fluffy cute bastards about the meadow these days, he should have picked up something. He'd never even given it a thought though, never planned on having any...offspring..gods know. His genes were his alone, and it would take an utterly astounding specimen of doe to drag offspring out of him.
The clicking sound, more musical then irritating, as vega looked on watching the pure bone, sharp, deadly. The way the small hart instinctively took care of its meal. "Tsk, I'm not even sure why you need me, but you do don't you? I suppose I can take some pride in that!" He wasn't about to call the thing weak, for the youngling was far far from being weak, it was simply young. Nothing more nothing less "I have to wonder how you already know such things. Mayhaps your a genius? You inherited it from me then" Vega smirked, managing a purrr of his own as he settled down next to the thicket yawning slightly. "You can relax now at least mnn..get some baby sleep..whatever it is you fawns are supposed to do. After all with two sets of eyes about there's no way anything will creep up on us, and anything that does will find itself at the nasty end of a blade wont it. Wont it little scorpion.." The description felt right..but the name..a name..bah he'd name it later.
Giving the thicket a half friendly nudge, vega curled protectively around it, enjoying the peaceful sound of slurping for a few moments. Rather pleased with his newfound discovery..his possession...such a perfect thing, something he would kill for just to see it survive. "Truly lucky you found me arent you, cant imagine what would have happened if some poor talon had come along. There'd be a big mess everywhere, so many splattered lizard bits no one would have been able to find you in all that." He huffed cheerfully, letting his head touch the ground, long tail swaying slightly behind him.
