This RP takes place on the second floor of Jaradin College's West Wing dormitories. It is well after curfew, but circumstances draw these two students from their beds; for neither insomnia nor nightmares offer rest to wandering minds.

She was trying to sleep, if one could call it sleeping. Her wrestles in modest bedclothes were fitful, her unrest rustling and struggles ear-splitting in the dusty dark of the room she held alone. Her tossing and turning, already pitched and periled, was all the more disturbed by the thin, piteous whimpers that parted her twitching lips. Her appearance made for a scene beyond the pale - and authentic, down to the shudder - of a dame de la peur beset by the horrors of elusive dreams: fragments of fables, a bit here and there about wayward legends lost to time's golden gilt. Stories that had never passed the modern lips of man, and never would any man again, stung her head with designs of something, something hovering, somethings falling...
And then the dream would break, only to rise up again and repeat, like the burst of some insurmountable bubble. This went on for hours, as the night is long - and longer, if one is so beset. It went on, in fact, until her frantic twisting cocooned her fine sheets around her legs at the ankles. The immediate realization that her real self could no longer run from dreamt-of mysteries brought her blinking, groggily, awake.
Then her eyes shot open, and there was no grogginess to it. For precious beats of seconds Elyesia tried her hardest to make sense of the shape before her, this towering enigma of gleaming yellow eyes and flickers of scale, of feather, of fur, that pulled form from the recesses of her night-fallen room.
But those seconds quickly passed. And after them, there was nothing but the high pitch of her terrified scream.

While some were caught in the nightmares that being in this new place brought, Colton couldn't even gain the slight peace that sleep would bring. Hours, he had spent just trying to gain peace of his mind, to make himself stop... Thinking. Of home, of the people he had left, of the first shimmering appearance of what he assumed to be his Daemon.
Giving up the fitful tossing and turning on his bed, he got up and donned the quietest shoes he could find to wander the halls. Maybe some physical exercise could weaken his mind enough to let it fall to sleep.
...Seems there was no rest for the wicked. The scream at least broke the train of thought, bringing Colt to alert as he immediately skidded to a stop and turned the corner towards the sound. He was a doctor - at least in training - and if someone needed help he could get there in time to help. Running as fast as his legs could take him he just hoped that nothing was terribly wrong.

Elyesia bolted from her bed, immediately concerned with nothing more than getting away from the apparition. She couldn't look at it, even though she could feel it chasing her. Growls in her ears, and claws against her ankles. Beating wings on the back of her neck!
In the midst of her careening, stumbling gait - stifling the tinier screams periodically bursting in the back of her throat - Elyesia fumbled with the door of her dorm and tumbled out of her own nightmare. The darkness of the hallway was no better, but here, at least Ely could move away from the horror she believed her room had become; and move she did. Step by shivery step, with one hand on the wall to keep herself from falling. The other hand went firmly over her chest, to quell the ache brought on by imminent hyperventilation.

"Does someone need h-" A door flew open just as he hit the doorway, knocking Colton to the floor. It took quite a bit of force to do so - he was no small boy, for sure. Sprawled out on the floor for a moment he sat up, trying to regain his bearings and touched a hand to his forehead - he was cut open, but it wouldn't need stitches.
Standing, he blinked, vision slightly blurred but he could see Elyesia there. "...Are... You okay?" He asked, a bit unsure of how to react to the situation - or of what her emergency might be. Surely, she was the one screaming, for it was gone now.

Despite the spike of adrenaline, the sound of a human voice actually stopped the girl's oncoming panic. It took a moment or two for her to turn around, slow and tremulous, because even if she was coming down from her moments of hysteria it was going to be a slow descent. But as she pulled the door closed all the way, the knob chattering under an unsteady touch, Ely contented herself with the obviously human form she found there. She was calming, she realized, not because the idea of a foreign boy outside her door was any less shocking than the nightmare; but because the thing that waited in that room was not human. Not even a little bit.
But humans were okay. She could deal with humans.
Elyesia stooped, only hesitantly standing once he was on his feet as well. "M-me? I should be asking about you." Even her voice was shaking, damn it. "What made you decide to nap in the hallway?"

"I wasn't napping..." Colt grumbled, watching the girl, wiping a drop of blood sliding down his cheek. "I was coming to see what was wrong... You were screaming... Thought someone may be hurt."
He seemed genuine - at least in bedclothes, though a knitted hat adorned his head, not something one saw often in the summertime. "...You don't look hurt... Should take you in for an exam anyway..."

Her lips pulled themselves down at the corners as she frowned - had she been screaming? Probably, but thinking about that reminded her of the dream, and she shuddered. "Oh," was all she managed in answer. Ely didn't remember seeing anyone in the hall, but fleeing in horror hadn't really given her time to look. "I'm not. Hurt, I mean. Just..." She looked back at the closed door, trepidation sparking like lightning in her eyes.
It was still there, though greatly lessened, as the boy in front of her finished speaking. Her eyebrows shot up at his last, mumbled word. "Wait, wait, wait. What do you mean exam?" A full lip curled at one corner. "And answer wisely. I am a very mean girl." Even though her tone was more weary than angry - she didn't feel quite right. Even if she had, this was no mood to go dealing with the silliness of boys.

His brow furrowed as he watched her, gaining his bearings once more as his head stopped throbbing. "Why would you scream like that, if you weren't being hurt?" He didn't understand that - he never had night terrors, merely the sleepless nights like tonight.
"Exam? ...A medical exam. Make sure you're not hurt. Maybe you got bit by a bug or something..." Thought it would have to be a mighty big bug, he had to imagine. He seemed surprised, by the question, as if it were completely obvious what he was speaking of. "Being mean has nothing to do with being hurt."

Ely mirrored his furrowed brows, the conversation's mutual confusion stretched between them both. "Medical...? You're a little young to be a doctor, aren't you?" It wasn't the answer that she had been expecting, though it was vastly preferred... and the look he was giving her now made it seem so very genuine. It made her feel properly stupid, besides. Maybe she should - 'dunno, offer some kind of apology...
Elyesia shifted away from him slightly, rubbing a shoulder against the door as he finished speaking - then flinching away sharply when she realized what she'd touched. When she spoke next, her words came hesitantly - not nearly as defensive as they had been before. Each one Ely punctuated with nervous glances at the room's only portal.
"I didn't get bit by anything - all the windows are closed in there. Besides, a girl doesn't scream about something as silly as that." A moment's thought gave her statement the lie. "Well, I guess some do. But they shouldn't. No, I... I woke up. And all of a sudden, it wasn't just me. There was something else in there." She looked up at Colton, and shocks of fear tainted her amber eyes gold in the dark. "There's something big in there, and it was after me." A shudder followed, and Ely couldn't have stopped it if she tried.

....Maybe he needed to get out more. Colt knew few classmates, and this girl was completely stumping him. She didn't believe his intentions? "Not officially a doctor yet... But I study hard, and I was the only one in my town who knew how to do anything more than a simple bandage."
He was obviously proud of his prowess - though he could admit that he certainly wasn't the best - he made up for it with common sense. He heard a scream, and instead of wasting time going up and down a flight of stairs, he acted. Just in case.
"In there? After you?" He had listened carefully before he spoke, pausing as he glanced at the cracked doorway. "I saw nothing come out when you opened your door." Moving anyway, he went into the small dorm, turning on a light to check it out. He would try to quell her fears, and surely could defend against anything in there.
