Well, his daughters liked her and that was a plus but there was something about this..lioness..this Juno that got to him on a deeper level.
Xanthus shook his head, as he took a deep breath, he never thought he'd find this emotion again, not on this level. A'nala had been his world and he had failed her.
He wasn't sure he could let that happen again, Xanthus was a protector, a lover, and he'd never be able to forgive himself if something happened to Juno.
Maybe he could explain things to her..

She was busy humming, swaying a bit to music only she could hear. She was happy..For once, she was happy. Even if Xanthus hadnt admitted to being hers, she felt that connection with him. Her heart was aflutter whenever she thought of him. And.. she did that often.
She didnt see the male approaching, not when she was too busy imagining a future with cubs, and love, and happiness. She had far too much to think about it at the moment.

He noticed her instantly, he was always careful of where he went, he was a big boy and he could hurt someone with stepping on a paw or worse.
He couldnt help but have a smile on his muzzle as he did watch her.
She was definately special, and if she accepted him after all he was about to tell her, he'd be the luckiest lion to live.

She paused, feeling eyes on her, though she was used to it.. Something told her it would do her well to turn and look behind her. She continued humming, but turned slowly to take in the scenery.
Then she rested eyes on Xanthus. She smiled, her face turning that of a happy child as she realized it was him.
"Xanthus!" She called, rushing to him, and bounding about him with little nudges and nips here and there of excitement.

His face couldn't help but twist into a grin of happiness, and as she called his name and came towards him, he knew he'd lost a battle he long ago had fought to keep.
He was quiet taken with Juno, his heart had given itself to her.
He couldnt help but nuzzle and n** at her lightly here and there, happily. "Hello Juno.."

She smiled, happiness shining in her eyes as she looked at him, and greeted him after the time apart. She had missed him, and it wasnt too far to say she had fallen in love with him..Or at least the idea of him. She grinned, and nuzzled into his neck, though pulled away again.
He hadnt claimed her as his, and she couldnt just go and nuzzle him all the time!
But oh how she wanted to.
"I missed you." She sighed.

"I must admit, that I've missed you as well." He smiled down at her, who would have thought that he'd find love again, after all that had happened in his life.
Specially with a lioness that was young enough to be his daughter! Oh, that thought only made him feel old.
"Juno..I need to talk with you about something."

"Go ahead silly." She grinned, trying to hold in the blush from him missing her as well. She had been sure she would never find love. She was too odd.. Too weird, the black sheep.
But she had found something, or so she was sure. She just had to wait for the moment when he told her. Which..paused her movements and she looked at him again intently.
"Whats it about?"

"I have some rather...strong and bold..very serious feelings for you Juno, but before I can ask you to share my life with you. I have to tell you about my past..because it's been the main reason for most of my choices." He took a deep breath, he felt that he had to be honest about everything with her before he could expect her to be as important as he knew she could be to him.

She nearly jumped in place, but she held the feelings in as he had a troubled look on his face. What could he have possibly done to make him look so serious? Or be so afraid to tell her he wanted to spend life with her, because of something he had done?
She would never turn him away, so she sat, settling into hear his story.
"Go ahead," she coached.

He sat down for a moment, and rubbed a massive paw over his face, he was suddenly tongue tied.
Taking a deep breath, he rose to his paws once again. "When I was an adol, I met this lioness..A'nala and I fell in love with her a great deal. And once I grew into an adult, I decided she was to be the lioness of my dreams..I loved her a great deal. And still do in some way, not like before though. But, something awful happened to her, and she couldnt tell me, couldnt explain what had happened and she shoved and pushed me away, told me she couldnt love me. Ever." He glanced away, "It hurt, but I still held onto a small glimmer of hope that she'd change her mind. Until one day, I came upon her and a leopard..this leopard had been the one to do vile things to her, to break her." He almost growled now, the idea of a male doing what had been done to another female, caused his temper to rage.
"And things got..heated." He said with a sheepish look, he wasnt one for violence but, sometimes one had to do what one did. "And I tried, everything in my powers, in my ability to help her, to fix her, to put the pieces back together." He closed his eyes now, and shook his head. "But, it wasn't enough..I wasn't enough for her to move passed it."
He didnt look at her, it shamed him still to know that he couldnt help A'nala no matter how hard he had tried. No matter how much he had loved her, it hadnt been enough. "I never really grew close like that with another. My daughters mother and I are friends, nothing more." He looked to Juno now, "I haven't felt like this, with another lioness..not even with A'nala."
He shook his head, "Im to old for you to boot." He said with a half hearted smile.

When he told her the story, she listened intently. She sighed and shook her head. He had been through so much in the past, and she felt for him..honestly. Her heart ached for him and she wondered why someone had allowed herself to be hurt.. To be hurt when she had someone so loving ready to be there for her.
She stood, walking closer to him and nudging her head under his chin. Her throat emitting a purr, and she nuzzled into him with love. She didnt want him feeling that way.. Yes he had loved before, and it had given him beautiful daughters. But he had also lost, and he wouldnt lose again.
"Im sorry Xanthus.."

He nuzzled the top of her head, he felt better sharing this with her. If she could accept it all, and accept him then he knew his days of being a single male, were quiet numbered.
"No." He said shaking his head, "Do not be sorry. At least not for me..Im not sorry any of it happened honestly. All lessons, no matter how painful are worth learning..each adventure worth taking. If none of it had happened, then its very likely, that I wouldnt have met you." He drew back now, and looked into her eyes.
"I wouldn't have fallen in love with you. The lioness who captured the hearts of my daughters, and stole mine as well."

Her heart beat rapidly, and she could feel herself swell as if she would float away like a balloon. She smiled, and she would have cried had she felt the need.. but she did feel that feeling that she could, if she tried. Shelooked into his eyes, and smiled once more, a gentle, knowing smile.
He loved her. He had never said it before, hell..She had never said it before, but she knew it was true. Now she was complete. She had the mate of her dreams, and he loved her as much as she loved him.
"I love you too Xanthus.. I never thought Id find a love like the one I found with you. I was always too ugly for it. But youve awakened my, like a swan." She grinned, and licked his cheek.

He nuzzled her close, purring echoed deep within his chest and throat as he licked her muzzle gently.
He was still a big guy, but having two small cubs had taught him to be gentle, and he could be like that with her now. "Your not ugly, your the most beautiful lioness. Inside and outside.." And that counted alot to him, to have inner beauty as well as outter.
"Please, take this ol' man." He said with a grin, nippling at her ear affectionately.
