[Try My Life is a tv show on the Style channel or something. I only watched a couple minutes of it, because after that I couldn't stand it anymore. It's a reality show where parents and their teens trade lives for 3 days, I believe.
In my opinion, it's a reality check for the kids, of course. That goes without saying. The kids get to see how difficult it is being an adult and the head of the household.
But for the parents, so what?? It's not like they weren't kids once already.
Sure, kids these days go through different things and different things are expected out of them, but if a parent was able to view life through their kid's eyes (kind of) would they have a change of heart? Would they be better off for it??
What if you had to go through 3 days as your parent?
What would your parent learn about teen life? Would your parent want to go back to being an adult? xd ]

i think the parents have a bit of a wake-up call too, since being a kid these days is definitely different than it used to be. 3nodding i think, for those parents who are a bit older than other parents, it would be a world of difference. kids are expected to grow up faster, not only by adults, but by their peers as well.
@ thirdeyephilsophy: unless of course she was expected to do the same when she was a kid, and that's why she's doing it to you... meh, i dunno, i'm not you, so i can't say. just a thought. confused

If either of my parents and I traded lives for 3 days, my parents would have a vacation and I'd lose my mind.

I mean, what does she do all day? Bust her a** working? Or watch her "stories" eating bonbons? xd Maybe she was expected to do all this when she was younger. Are the "6 people" you speak of younger than you (excluding your mom and you)?
It's very good of you to handle the household responsibilities yourself, though. 3nodding
What would happen to you if the tables were turned? You say if she had to live your life, she'd go crazy, but what if you had to live hers?]

I dunno though. Even though I don't have kids of my own, I'm around them a lot and it's like you can kind of see through their eyes, just by being around them constantly, what it's like to grow up these days. For parents who waited a long time to have kids, (compared to most parents), I think you're right: it would be a world of difference.
I think the ages most people have kids these days are between 20 and 25, but I'm not sure...maybe that's that age most people get married. xp
Perhaps parents would realize that they do expect their own kids to grow up faster. 3nodding I think that would be a shocker. Also, the parents might be shocked to find out just what their kids observe; how the kid chooses to run the household will be a reflection of how the parents raised them. Now THAT might be scary. xd ]

[My mom is the hardest working person I know. I'd be afraid to have to live up to that. Other than that, I'd have no problem. In my house, I'm already the leader (under her). In times when she couldn't be here to organize things, I did. I took care of my younger brothers and made sure they did what they were supposed to do. I made sure my older brother took on his "oldest child duties."
When I was younger, sure, I'd be terrified to have to switch with her... Just because she'd go to my classes at school and intereact with the people I see daily and find out the dirty little secrets I still hide to this day. sweatdrop
For her, I think she would have something of a vacation. My job isn't easy, but I'm sure she'd get through it. In fact, I might like for her to switch places with me so she could have a break and I could feel like I am pulling my own weight for once. ninja ]

[ xd Yea, but if you could somehow keep her away from your friends, you'd be all right with it? biggrin
The fact that you want to wait to "drink" is admirable. 3nodding Which brings up something interesting: How many people out there have parents who are/were un-trusting? They don't trust you to make good decisions on your own without having someone breathing down your neck? (And you don't deserve it.)
Well, if you and that parent who doesn't trust you to make good decisions for yourself switched places, do you think they'd trust you more?] [ ]

I would love to change places with my dad. I would get to sit in a recliner all day, watch softcore porn on cable. Drink beer and smoke a little herb while yelling at people to find the remote and fetch me things. Constantly making sexist and racist comments. It would be great. I just can't stand mixing my languages so it would be hard there.
