"I am just going to stretch my legs"
That is what she said to him, Zeda was far into her pregnancy now and was finding it more and more troublesome. Almost every night now she was getting cramps which only seemed to wear off if she walked, so her going out for a stroll in the middle night had become something Heha was used to. Since he found out her condition he had been wonderful, always there to dote on her every need and even though Zeda would never admit it she was very grateful to him for it. Even though the mood swings and rapid fire complaining was probably not the best way to show her gratitude. The moonlight shone down on the lands and the dark mare wondered along the path by the lake. Her coat sparkling with the light from the stars above.
The lake had become her favorite place to be, the cool water soothed the pains in her stomach and the soft sound of ripples and drops calmed her nerves. She came to the edge of the lake, walking into it so the liquid wrapped around her swollen ankles. She took in a deep breathe and turned her crimson eyes to the sky. It was a full moon, it was so big in the sky it seemed to light the land, not a cloud in sight. The stars where clear in view, breathtaking. The sky was always so much more stunning when the winter months had started, she knew the snow would come soon. It was a odd time to be having foals, usually they came in spring, at least that was the impression she got. Trust her to be odd. She chuckled and shook her head, going deeper into the water so it tickled her inflated belly.
How many were in there? two, three? she wondered. It felt like a army at times. She was looking forward to being back to her normal weight. Women were meant to glow when they were pregnant? she did not think so. She looked at her reflection and pouted. She was hideous? how could this be attractive? Heha was such a liar! She tutted and shook her head, kicking one of her legs so her image scattered in the water.

Chandra had been up for a while, as with most of her families herd they tended to stay up more at night than in the day. A little odd perhapse but she would rather be odd than normal any day. Especially when she was loved so much and had two stallions who seemed to want her -of course that was a whole other story, and one that she really wished she had the answer too. How was she meant to pick between her childhood friend and her teenhood friend? They both meant so much to her and really didn't want to lose either... of course she couldn't keep them both either. One or neither, and although they hadn't said it she knew that it would come down to it.
Letting out a deep breath she headed towards the lake for a swim and paused in her tracks as she saw Zeda, she actually liked the mare -despite the attitude. Part of Chandra believed they were very much alike in some ways, both trying to leave an impression on the world.
"Good evening," she chirped happy and moved towards her, ever since Zeda had come back to the herd pregnant Chandra had become fascinated and it was because of this fascination that she had considered that becoming a midwife would be the path in life she would take. She could help others, bring new life into the world and generally just see smiled brought to happy families. She wanted a big family of her own one day but that would wait. "What does it feel like?" She smiled at Zeda and looked to her belly before continuing, "Can you feel the babies kicking?"
She giggled softly before asking yet another question, "Are you hoping for two or three? Sengdroma said she loved having all three of us but it was hard work."

Zeda's ears pricked up slightly and she turned around to see a dark, yet brightly coloured mare heading her way. Daughter to the herd's alpha. Crimson eyes looked at Chandra neither showing a possitive or negative reaction to her company. She did not mind being alone or with companion. It was funny to say Zeda once lived her life in complete solitude, now she was part of a herd and could even go as far to call some friends. The fact she was here was proof she had come one million miles to what she once was. Ontop of that she was with child and had a loving lifemate. The dark days she spent were behind her beyond sight and memory.
"Good morning, I am sure we are in the early hours by now."
Came a all too familiar voice, Zeda was not a feminine sounding mare by far, she had the voice that was like a witch, sausy and in some ways sinister. It is what most people commented on when they first met her. However it suited her, she was not a fluff and love mare, she was tough, she had always had to be and even though that was no longer needed it was hard for a old dog to give up its bone, the fighting spark she had to trigger as a child was still burning bright. Her rock and roll attitude still as fresh as it was when she was a teenager.
"A little too much if you ask me, never give their poor momma a break, can feel it, they are going to give Heha hell. Just like their momma, fighting from the off start. Would not have it any other way."
She resonded to her question, it was yet to sink in, she knew she was having children. However it seemed surreal that lives had grown and flurished inside of her. I guess the true extent of what was going on was not going to sink in until they took their first breathe and opened their eyes to look on the world for the first time. She could not imagine them here, besides her on there own. They had been trying for so long it did not seem real. She was going to be a mother, sure she knew that, however she was yet to understand what that word truly meant, what new mother ever did, especially one who never had their own to take reference from...
"Even if I had just one, as long as that baby was healthy I would be happy. I dont know if I could handle three. If thats what the all mighty spirits have in store for me so be it. Sometimes, it feels like I have my own regerment parading in my womb..."
She let out a small laugh, well a cackle like sound which was as close to a laugh as Zeda got. Then turned in the water to face the beautiful angeni mare. Kids these days, taking all the looks. Chandra was a looker and Zeda was sure if someone showed her how to use those eyes and batter those eyelids and shake that booty she could awake to multiple stallions doting over her and confessing eternal love, like little perfect puppets. Oh god help her children! What things she was going to teach them. It put a small smile on her face. She could never imagine herself being a stict mom, she would teach them her rule, live how you want - however face the music when it comes calling. She brought herself up, had to learn every lesson the hard way and even though it was not easy its what molded her. So a few hard lessons leant by her children would not kill them.
However there was one difference, unlike her, they were going to have loving parents.
As Zeda turned she flinched slightly letting out a small groaning sound. Another cramp? a painful one at that. It would not be long, however the mare would be suprised just how soon a new chapter in her life would begin.

Chandra smiled softly at Zeda, it was true hoice, appearance and attitude usually left her on her own but there was something almost appealing about her in Chandra's eyes. "Yes I suppose it is closer to morning now." She chuckled softly, remembering she was suppose to be helping her mother collect flowers and food for the festival celebrations in honor of Zeda's babies. According to Sengdroma Zeda would 'pop' any day, perhaps that was part of the reaon why Chandra wanted to be with her at the moment? After all she knew she wanted to help if she could.
Shaking her head of the thought she found herself chuckling again at Zeda's next comment. "I am sure they will cause choas, but you have all of us to help you if you need it. I would love to baby sit if you and Heha ever need a night off. I'll even drag Io along too." Beaming at the glowing mare she couldn't help but wonder if her skin would look so beautiful when she was pregnant? Or rather.. IF she ever got pregnant, she would have to pick a mate first. Curses.
Bumping Zeda softly and tugging on her mane in a brief sign of affection. She had been brought up to believe that touch could heal and help, it was also known to bring unity and strength, and part of Chandra knew that Zeda needed to know she wasn't alone and that she had the strength of the herd at her side. "They will be healthy, you just wait and see." Chandra went to say something else when she saw the sudden look of pain that flashed upon her face. "You ok?" Immediatly worried Chandra hoped that if something happened she could help.

Zeda smiled at her, everyone seemed to be offering them out and it shocked her a little just how many people were their for her and Heha. They were all being so sweet and caring. She was grateful, in the past months she had found kindness, goodness in people which she was blinded to before. In a way she envied these children, they would be surrounded by love, a love that was still new even to their mother, she just hoped they appreciated it, as much as she did.
"T-hank you."
The mare finally uttered, bowing her head slightly in a soft voice which was rare for her. Those words still felt odd coming from her mouth, however she knew right now she had everything to be thankful for. Everything to live for. She squinted slightly, however pushed herself to stand straight once more filling up her lungs deep with the crisp winter air and releasing them. The pain fleeing from her for a moment, she forced a small smile onto her face to try and reassure the young mare. She was fine, these pains had been bothering her all day and she was used to them. She had to admit though as time went on they were getting more violent.
"I am fine, don't worr-"
Before she could even finish her words another pain started, she twitched once more letting out another small squeak and before she knew it she was on her knees in the water. It hurt so much what was going on? was it - no not yet, not here, she was not ready, Heha was not here. This could not be happening! In the shadows watched a young goat. Koda was Zeda's familiar and someone who was always worrying about her. Even when she did not know it he was always following her. Just to make sure she was safe and well, when he saw her fall to the water his little heart started to beat ten to the dozen. His crimson eyes widening. He had to get Heha! Soon little hooves where pattering as fast as he could force them.
Zeda opened her eyes to look at the mare. Even though she did not mean to, her eyes were asking the angeni for help. She needed it. More than she could imagine she needed it. Her heart seemed to sink, she was terrified about what was happening to her...

Chandra could see and literally feel the pain as it rippled off Zeda like a wave, she wanted to panic, to go fetch help who knew what they were doing but she knew she couldn't. There was one thing she couldn't do -she couldn't leave Zeda. Especially since the look in her eyes held her captiatived and frozen for a moment, she wanted help. She wanted Chandra's help. It was a rare thing indeed, she had never seen this might mare ask for help off anyone.
Taking a deep breath to compose herself she nuzzled Zeda affectionatly before speaking, "Walk a little more into the water, the coolness will ease the pain." That and Chandra was planning to take as much of it as she could away with her unicorn healing powers. She just needed to focus and practise, she knew it was unlikely to work on the first attempt.
She slowly began to lead Zeda slightly deeper into the water so that her bump was covered but if she wished to sit down she could without the water drowning her. Warm water and cold water were said to have healing properties and from the stories of other mares who had been gifted children she knew they were true during pregnancy and labor. Placing herself between Zeda and the deeper waters, she wanted to ensure Zeda was not dragged under or anything against her will, she started to speak softly as her mind assessed the situation. "Don't worry, I'm here."
Chandra didn't know how she knew but she did, it was time for Zeda to have her babies. But this feeling that was building inside her was more than just fear or excitment it was a longing to help, she really couldn't harm a soul and although she had agreed to defensive combat training she never went to the extend that Mal did -after all he wanted to be a guardian and Chandra wanted to be, well something else. And the more time she spent with Zeda the more she knew -midwife.
Ok. So they where in the water, the contractions where getting closer together which indicated that the body was preparing the opening so that Zeda could push soon. That would give them any where between twenty minutes and twenty hours. She had heard tales of births dragging on for hours -especially for first time mothers. She just needed to keep Zeda happy, reduce the pain as best she could and deliever all the babies safetly. Didn't sound so hard... yeah right.
Concentrating her unicron healilng magic into removing pain she felt the familar tingle of magic as it flowed from her horn to Zeda and began to slowly wrap itself arond her belly. Chandra only hoped it made some difference. "Ok." She chirped, pretending she was doing anything to ease the pain, "Have you thought of any names?"

Zeda let herself be lead by the young glittering mare, her urge to fight against any kind of command had died and she was more concerned about the monsters trying to rip themselves out of her. She was dreading this. She had been told by countless mares it was the most painful thing anyone went through, especially for the first time. She never thought she would have to fight a opponent which she could not win. She could deal with pain when fighting but she was not fighting, she was just being hurt. Its all she could think about. She tried to think of other things. Anything to keep her mind off of what was happening to her. She felt the cool water cover her more and she seemed to just flop onto her knees. The water reaching up to her neck. Tears starting to form in her eyes. Her hair drooping and sticking to her with the moisture.
She then felt a slight release. Like a warm sensation in her stomach. She opened her eyes once clenched. A tear rolling down her face. She saw Chandra. She heard her. She knew she was not alone but for some reason she felt like she was. She gave her a small release. She saw she was trying to help as much as she could. Chandra was fighting, so should Zeda. She had to fight too. She had something to fight for - her children. She had to fight - to make sure they came into this world safely. Childbirth was a dangerous thing. She gritted her teeth another wave seeming to come over her. She took in some deep breathes, letting out small screams. Names? Oh she had some names alright, she could come up with some right now!
"Yes- Heha's heritage. Native American- with influences from my father. The names shall flow.... when we see them."
She managed to splutter out, taking more deep breathes, she could not seem to talk through the amount of air her body seemed to be sucking in. She thought about names a lot. However was stuck to narrow it down, she had decided she would choose the names when she sees her faols. Watch them grow, see what suits them. However Heha seemed to like the idea of naming them with influence from both their families. More tears flowed from the mates face, there was no doubt about it, they were coming....
"Hush little baby don't say a word... momma's going to buy you a mocking bird...
It seemed silly. However she started to sing, anything to keep her mind off of the pain. Off of the chaos and the blood that seemed to be flowing in the water. The full moon shining brightly, illuminating the soft surface of the lake.

Chandra watched Zeda and had to admire the strength and determination she saw within her, this proud warrior woman would not be knocked down by a single blow and Chandra knew she would make it through this without any trouble -despite the agony she was experiencing right now.
"You're doing so well Zeda, keep it up." She chirped while caressing the mares side softly. Water sloshed and swished around them slapping into their sides. It did feel nice but Chandra's attention was definatly not focused on it right now.
Realising that Zeda wasn't concentrating on much other than the pain and any way to get rid of it Chandra doubled her effort to take some of the pain away from her, it wasn't until she started to feel a strange contraction feeling in her own stomach region that she wondered if she was feeling just a little of what she was taking. She simply hoped it helped.
Deciding to sing with Chandra she allowed her gentle voice join the usually harsh one of Zedas, "....if that mocking bird don't sing.... momma's going to buy you a clover ring...." The pain in her belly continued as she continued to send out her magic to aid the pregnant mare beside her, oh how she wished she was more unicorn like her brother Mal. It was strange how he envied her wings and she longed to not have them... maybe if she didn't she could truely help others and wouldn't have two angeni males smitten with her... just maybe. But wishing such things was pointless. She was what she was. She had to deal.
((Had to think of something not so man made XD))

The dark mare heard the words of encouragement and even though she was greatful for them she did not feel like she was doing that well. To be honnest she felt sick to her stomach and only a few moments in she felt like she was going to die, this could go on for hours and she did not know if she could take it. She wanted Heha. Everything would be so much better if he was just here, just his being near her, giving her a cuddle would be enough to calm her, even though she was greatful to Chandra it was not the same. However she was helping more than she thought she would, she knew that the pain would be so much worse if it was not for the healing abilities of the mare.
"And if that clover rin-"
She began before she gritted her teeth some more. Pretty much loosing all ability to make any noise other than moans and screams. Its funny, I am sure any other time people would be over the moon to know that Zeda could no longer talk. She cried some more. Any other time she would be yelling at herself for showing tears to people. Her crying was rare, in recent memory she can only remember twice, the first was when she told him they were having children. However crying from pain was something new, it usually just made her angry. Then again this was beyond any pain she had felt before.
Koda ran through the forest, his little feet pounding the floor leading the dark male to the lake. They were in too deep for him to stand near, after all he was small and did not posess the long legs the horses did. He came to a stop at the waters edge and panted. lttle legs had never run so fast.
"This way..."
He panted looking back to see if Heha had kept up, no dount he would. Zeda looked back over her shoulder, to see her familiar, her heart lifting slightly.

The dark stallion followed quickly behind the little goat with nothing more in his mind, but worry. He knew it was urgent since Koda barely spoke when he found him and there was no slowing down of the pace. He felt his heart in his throat and his legs get a little wobbly. He was scared. Better yet he was nervous. He knew this was the moment he was going to become a father. He had to bear this kind of anxiety. Even if it was eating him up the closer they got to the female.
When he heard Koda, he sped up and darted into the area where Zeda was. Stopping, he looked down at the female with a smile feeling his heart get calm again. He felt at ease and all he could do was walk closer to her giving a soft nuzzle. "I'm here love." He said to her softly before looking to the other female helping Zeda out with the birth. "Thank you for this." He told her with a firm nod as he nuzzled Zeda even more to keep her at ease. He was indeed going to have to leave his traveling behind him now. He was finally grown and starting a family of his own. He couldn't be more happier in the world then he was right now.
Though to his dismay, what he didn't know is that it wouldn't be all that easy to just be a father. There was some things he would have to learn on his own. Either way, he was ready to face any journey ahead of him.

Chandra did her best to sooth Zeda but the best distraction came in the form of Heha showing up. She could almost feel the relief radiate off her companion by the arrival of her mate. It was something that she envied -perhaps it was the one thing that was truely missing from her life but who would she pick? She really couldn't hurt either of them. One was her friend from childhood the other as she grew. They both meant so much to her that the thought of losing either of them pained her. Perhaps the path she needed to take was neither?
Shaking her head of such thoughts she concentrated on the job at hand. It was time, these babies where going to come shortly and Chandra knew it was going to be her job to deliever them, at least with Heha here he could distract Zeda so that Chandra's healing wasn't needed and she could focus completely on the task at hand.
Wait... she was missing something. Cursing under her breath she tried to remember where the baskets Maion had ordered from a two-legger where. They have ordered two of them but Sengdroma had mentioned that there was a third, a little brown one, that had yet to be used. Ok. It was obvious she was not going to be able to move Zeda to the baskets, nor was she going to be able to go herself or send Heha.... so that left Elijah. Elijah was her fathers fox familar and seemed to have taken a liking to Chandra despite her hair not being as long as her fathers and so a poor hiding place. Whistling the special pattern she had been taught with her sisters incase of emergencies -and this was definatly an emergency- she hoped that the little fox would find her way here quickly.
While she waited Chandra smiled at Heha and nodded softly, "It is my pleasure." Turning her attention back to Zeda she spoke once more, trying to make her voice positive but not too cheery so not to worry Zeda, "I think she needs you to talk to her, comfort her, kiss her...." looking back to Heha she tried to mouth to him 'it's starting.... this is going to hurt her.... could take a long time.' Afterall birth was no easy thing and could take hours upon hours, especially with multiple births.
It was at that moment when she heard the familar rustling of Elijah, although her paws where heavy and padded with an urgency she did not recognise. In that moment Chandra had to hold back a gasp. This was happening, this was her moment to help another.... this was an emergency for Zeda, Heha and their children.
Turning to Elijah she spoke quickly, "Fetch the baskets. It is time." The little fox needed no more information as she ran away at full pelt baring pausing to nod her acknowlegdment to the order given. Chandra trusted the little familar with her life.
Watching Zeda as her face consricted instinctively with each contraction she counted using 'hippopotomuses' and before long the contractions where regular. "Breath Zeda. You are doing so well."

It was morning before the whole prosess was over. The sky was bleeding reds and purples, bright white rays stretched above the tree tops thrusting light onto the land, the water glittering. The fox familiar had come three times, each time bringing a different basket. The others helped Zeda, bringing the babies outof the water and into their safe havens, presuading her not to give up no matter how many hours had passed and how much her body was begging her to give in. Three beautiful lives had been created and all places into the weaved homes which would keep them safe till the day they emerge.
One was brown like many members of Zeda's family, bearing the skull and cross born mark which had been passed down from her father to her and now to her child. One foal had the brightest of red eyes and looks like a perfect mixture between parents, the last was a lot like Heha, carrying his swirls on its coat, in every colour which radiated on Zeda's body. All of them were brightly coloured and the baskets complemented them well. Each one perfect.
After many painful hours the mare pulled herself out of the water. Body heavy with evey bodily fluid emagenable and more, exhaustion was obvious in her eyes, she made her way on sore. To where her wonderful babies were and fell to the floor, resting her head and closing her eyes, taking in deep breathes, she could not keep them open anymore. She forced herself to look at the two, giving Heha a comforting smile, if nothing more to show him he was okay. Then her attention went to the wonderful angeni mare, she could not have done it without her.
"Thank you.... my babies... wonderful. Perfect, three..."
She panted, her words not really making any logical sence however they were true. Her crimson eyes closed once more, her mind drifting to the world of sleep. She needed rest and by god she had earned it. Koda smiled and sniffed the babies, his litle fluffy tail wagging likea puppy. Laying amongst them. He would protect them with his life. He was so proud of Zeda as could be shown by the beam on his face. He turned to the angeni mare.
"I think shes trying to show her gratitude. Thank you Chandra and Heha, I think she just needs a cuddle, you have not slept all night either, me and Lily will stay with them, get some sleep oh... and congratulations."

Chandra smiled at the happy couple and their three baskets, she supposed the fact they had a spare came in handy after all. And although it hadn't been there to begin with she now noticed that the brown basket now help a skull and cross bone on it. It made her giggle out loud, it was appropriate that Zeda's baskets would have as much attitude as their mother -she imagined that their father was similar perhaps, but she didn't know very much about him at all, only what Zeda had said and that wasn't much to her.
"Rest Zeda." She walked over to her and gave her a kiss to congradulate her before kissing all of the baskets for luck. It may seem like a silly thing to do but it was fast becoming a tradition of the herd. "You have done so well." No matter what happened Chandra knew that her and the rest of the herd would always stand by this family of five, after all that was the bonus of being part of a herd. The negative was things didn't tend to stay secret for long.
She walked over to father Heha and gave him a kiss on the cheek also. "Congradulations." And just as the word left her lips a yawn shortly followed. It has been a long night and early morning and had taken a lot of her energy to help Zeda elevate some of the pain while still concentrating on delivering the babies. Yet something told Chandra that with some practise she would soon be very good at it and be far more able to help. But right now she needed to sleep.
Smiling, after all she was proud of them and herself, she bowed her head softly before whispering to Heha (since Zeda was asleep) and the little goat familar, "Good night. Take good care of them. If you need me you know where I am." And with that she walked back to her usual sleeping spot and bedded down for the night for a well earned rest.
