User ImageFor a moment when he woke up that mid-morning, Erynion wasn't sure where he was. His memory was hazy for a few minutes, and it granted him strange visions of what had happened the night before: a hollow loneliness as he trudged along without really looking where he was going, an impending storm, a voice that called out to him, and so much rain and thunder he thought he might go deaf . . . Ah, there ewe go! He remember what it was now. A storm had come upon them - Ayita, he recalled, that was the other pup's name - and they had been forced to take shelter in a log of all things. It was a strange circumstance in which to make a friend.

But now with his fur dried and his stomach rumbling and the day at least a lighter gray than the day before, the pup was left with the question of whether to just leave her there or not. Should he wait till she woke up? What would he do if he did? Or if not, where would he go? Already he now knew that he was by a pack that wouldn't accept him at all just because of his looks. Maybe he could try and catch something for both of them to eat? But he wasn't a good hunter really . . . He tilted his ears back in lieu of not whining to wake her up and for the moment stepped outside of the log, stretching and yawning. Maybe a walk about would clear his head some.

She'd been awake for awhile, but her eyes remained closed. At some point his breathing patterns changed and she knew that he too was awake, but she remained closed eyed. She heard him step out after a long silent moment and when he did she opened her eyes. Was he going for a walk? If so, maybe she could hunt something down so when he came back he could eat. Her tummy rumbled, and she knew he must be hungry too... she wasn't good at hunting anything bigger than a rabbit, so hopefully she could catch enough to fill them up.

She rose and stepped out a few minutes after he did and lifted her nose to the air. She didn't smell anything... She lowered her head to the ground and found all sorts of scents. She began to follow one that made her tummy rumble in anticipation. It was still warm on the wet grass. It was a rabbit for sure... possibly a doe. She followed it further still and saw the hole in the ground that likely housed the rabbit in question. She followed her nose to the hole and nodded in satisfaction, then, standing behind the hole she did what she'd often seen rabbits do. She sat down and imagined she had an itch and her foot started thumping the ground and a moment later, a rabbit exited the hole.

She stepped over the hole before the rabbit could reenter and with slow, measured, silent steps the puppy leapt at the female rabbit and caught it by the neck. She gave it a good shake and with a squeal it stopped moving. She lowered her head and thanked the rabbit's spirit for it's sacrifice and she went running back to the log she'd shared with Ery the night previous.

Myris'ti had a habit, a bad one at her age - she liked to wander off alone. Given that most of her time was spent with her family, though, she often felt the need to get out and widen her horizons. The night after the rain had come down hard, she wanted to explore something that had become her interest du jour - amphibians. She had figured out already that they liked the water, since they spent half their time in it - but she wanted to see if they'd come out onto land more when all of the ground was wet like it was today. She figured they might, but she wasn't sure if they perhaps just liked the mud at the sides of the ponds and not just any mud.

On her way through the slippery, water-drenched, lush forest, though, she found something that was definitely not an amphibian... though it did kinda look like a toad... a kinda furry toad. Having rarely seen anyone outside of her family, Myri hadn't ever come across, or been aware of wolves in anything but shades of browns, blacks and the occasional creamy white. What was in front of her, thus, she wasn't sure was a wolf.

She had stopped still when she saw the green and red creature in front of her and moved forward slowly now, trying not to scare it off. Most things seemed to run off if they caught sight of a wolf, even a small one such as herself, which really hampered her zoological studies. Unfortunately, though, in the name of clichés everywhere, her foot cracked through a sodden branch, whose rotten insides had given up after their latest soaking. With an audible crunch, and a slightly less audible curse, Myri stumbled out of the greenery, quickly looking up to see where, she assumed, her 'subject' would run to.

This time Pra'tari had indeed been sent after one of his siblings, or so he'd like to think - he was pretty sure the annoyed look his father had cast about had meant 'go and find your sister before I do' - but he might have just been looking for an excuse to track her down. Myris'ti was always wandering off and getting into trouble, Pra'tari was pretty sure that eventually she would run across something bad.

Moons knew what sort of thing wandered about in these forests? He'd heard stories of fairies and spirits and monsters - and poor Myris'ti could run across any one of them...what made it ore was that she never seemed to think about that - in fact she always seemed to be following strange wildlife about!

It was no surprise then that when he finally tracked his sister down she seemed to be looking for another of these 'creatures' though he couldn't see one around at first glance. Grumbling to himself he trotted towards his sister with the intention of bringing her back home.

It seemed as though Myris'ti was at it again, wandering off in search of who knows what. Am'Arice was a but curious as to why her sister seemed to spent all her time tracking down critters, sure some of them were quite interesting looking but there were so many other things to do as well. She had watched Pra'tari leave as well, though it appeared though he was going to try to find their sister before either of their parents got too upset. Well two sets of eyes were better than one right, so Am'Arice followed after Pra'tari.

"Slow down Pra." She quietly yelled after him as she tried to keep up. He had got a good head start before she decided to join him and that last thing Am'Arice wanted was to get separated from him and then get in trouble for wandering off as well. Running fast to catch up Am'Arice tried to not trip and stumble on any roots that stuck out of the ground or rocks. When she finally caught up to him Pra was nearly where their wayward sister was.

Ery, for the most part, was just dully stunned for a moment. Between his growling stomach and his still half-asleep mind, he though for a few moments that he had just imagined things. The scent of rabbit, for one; oh gods, it send him salivating, and he turned in its direction and wondered briefly if maybe he should catch . . . No wait, it was Ayita coming back. He could still eat, maybe? Although he probably shouldn't ask, she did do the hunting herself; he'd be such a mooch -

Crack! That was enough to wake him up some. Erynion staggered back when he saw what looked like a masked critter stumble out of the woods, peering at him with great curiosity. One was bad enough, but then he caught two voices behind it, and that sent enough warning alarms to fully wake Erynion up. "D-Don't eat me!" he yelped, stepping back until the log prodded at his back, ears flattened. "Eat her rabbit! E-Eat that!" Oh gods, what did he do to deserve this? He just woke up!

"Ery! I caught Breakfast for us!" then she heard his exclamation. Ayita was confused. She heard his statement and wondered what he meant, then she saw the other wolves. "Ery!" she said, wide-eye around her rabbit. She dropped the Rabbit and called him again. "Ery, they're Sanctity Wolves!" she yelped, afraid of what they might say or do to him.

She growled and her fur bristled and she ran forward. She didn't know them directly, but she recognized them, visually and by scent. She had seen her sister walk unnoticed among them and hated her every moment for it. She snarled, stepping between them and Ery. Her reaction wasn't one of dislike, it was of protection, and fear. She was afraid of what they might hurt him if their opinion was anything like their parents it wouldn't be a surprise.

Myri was, for a moment shocked. Not only did she realise, suddenly, that the oddly-patterned 'creature' in front of her was another wolf, but another one appeared. The other one didn't see quite as odd though Myri, having mostly only associated with her family, hadn't seen many pale-coated wolves. The blue, though... such a bright blue overlain with another deeper blue.

Her small yellow eyes grew wide as she tried to assimilate this information into her world-view. She had noticed her colouration, her siblings, and her parents and had begun to make some of the basic assumptions as to how markings might be passed down but... surely these wolves were oddities. She had never seen a wolf with green, blue, or red on their coat - only frogs, or lizards. Maybe that was it - were they half lizard?

Then the male's words kicked in. "Eat you?" she wrinkled up her small snout at the idea of eating another wolf, though it was only when he spoke that she truly accepted him, subconsciously, as one of her own kind. "I don't wanna eat you, or a rabbit" she said, confused. She looked between him and the female, curiosity overwhelming any sense that she should not speak to strangers. The female seemed agitated and the male scared - almost like the mice she had cornered when she tried to investigate their nest.

"You don't need ta be afraid, sillies!" she said confidently, assuming as many young, sheltered pups might, that saying so meant it would be so, and grinned. The next thing out of her mouth, though, was a little incongruous. "Do you guys eat frogs or lizrds as well as rabbits?" her face was alive with interest and curiosity.

They had left him behind. Again. That wouldn't do. How was he supposed to protect his sisters if they were always running off without inviting him? Stupid girls.

He knew they had come through here because he could smell them, and saw Am'Arice's pawprints. He also knew they were almost beyond their own borders, if they hadn't passed it already. He would have to mention that when he caught up to them. ... And maybe they could go exploring before they went back. He wasn't opposed to that, as long as they went as a group. There was safety in numbers. When you were small, numbers might be what helped you to survive.

There they were. He caught sight of his siblings and turned his trot in a faster run. "Hey!" He didn't notice that the three of them had been blocking his view of two other pups. Strangers.

The moment he saw the two weird looking puppies, and the snarl on one's face, he forgot his annoyance with his siblings and barreled in between, staring the snarling female down with a puppy snarl of his own. He took in the situation once he had achieved his position of power. One aggressive female pup, half-normal colored with blue and greenish markings, slightly smaller than him. One... scared male. His snarl remained strong, but his ears perked forward curiously. Perhaps this situation was not so dire as it appeared. Myri certainly didn't seem to think so, but then again... Myri was always a little careless about her safety. If he had been over, he may have considered her "suicidal" from the careless, crazy risks she took. Tyr sometimes thought in extremes. A lot of sometimes. Actually, what did she just say?

"They eat lizards? What? Wolves don't eat lizards, Myri." Tyr didn't look away from the strange female, but he did turn his head slightly towards his sister, a soft growl in his voice. "What are you talking about?"

Pra'tari was probably as startled as the poor scared...green?..wolf pup was, well that couldn't be right - Pra had never seen a green wolf before, obviously he had rolled in something. Pra'tari had seen green slime in ponds before and wrinkled his nose slightly. Gross.

Of course about the time he was pondering that the second wolf - a female this time came barreling in snarling and growling like they were a bear or something. This was not going well at all and to make matter's worse - before he could even open his mouth and assure the strange blue female...he had no idea what she could have rolled in but there had to be a reasonable explanation there. Blue flowers maybe? Flowers stained things sometimes he knew -Tyr was in between them and the strangers spitting and snarling in much the same manner. "Um...maybe everyone should just calm down.." He suggested, though h wasn't to worried now I mean they were four against two now and with all three of his siblings gathered the four of them were unbeatable!

When she finally caught up to her sister and brother Am'Arice was a bit surprised to see an odd green colored wolf. The sight was both intriguing and a bit frightening. Unnaturally colored wolves were not something that was allowed within the pack, so clearly he had wandered far too close to the border. And then the female with the blue markings came into the scene. She knew that pup, she was one of the Alpha's pups - well the ex-alpha. And the fact that she seemed so angry towards them just because they were from Sanctity made her growl slightly. "You are from Sanctity as well you know."

He didn't need to be scared? Yeah, right! Telling him that when one, two, three . . . no, four of them now! Four black and brown and tannish pups were coming at them slowly, and he was sure they knew that he knew he was in deep trouble. And the first girl was just asking questions to throw him off! And look, now Ayita was feeling defensive and probably making the others even more annoyed. Oh boy oh boy, he was just making things worse wasn't he . . .

"Y-Yeah, let's calm down. Ayit-taaaa." He tried to give her a pointed look, but that was hard considering he was shaking a little in anxiety and her back was to him, so he quickly gave up on the action and faced the four similar-looking pups. "U-Um. I've eaten lizards before. N-Not frogs. And a-a rabbit once too," Erynion offered, wondering just when the jeers about his weird pelt would begin if they really were from Sanctity.

Ayita crouched, muscles tensed, the female ready to defend herself and her new friend if she needed to. She was actually quite afraid. Her mother had told her to always avoid other pups because she might be hurt so she was uncertain. Ayita backed up a step and looked nervously at the snarling male. She bristled fur and made herself look bigger. She watched them and when Ery spoke she slowly lifted her head.

"I'm not the threat here..." she said uneasily to the snarling male pup. "I've always been told to stay away from the naturally colored pups because they would hurt me." she said uncertainly. "I just want to protect my friend and enjoy breakfast." she grumbled, looking at the other pups, her ears laying back and her snarl dropping slowly.

Tyr heard his siblings' suggestions and relaxed his body, but his snarl didn't back down until the other pup's had. There was no telling, until the girl said and showed it herself, if she intended them harm or was just protecting her submissive friend there.

"You looked like a threat when I came up." It was the truth. "Girl or not, I wasn't about to let you hurt my sisters, or my brother." Of course, Pra could take care of himself, being a boy. Am's comment on the girl being from Sanctity made Tyr blink, and he slowly sat down. He hadn't seen the girl-- Ayita-- before, and if she had been lied to about how she would be treated, then it was no wonder. Am must have been doing more going off without him. He would have to talk to them all about that.

"That's stupid." It was matter-of-fact, and he tilted his head slightly, his bi-colored eyes staring the female down. "Unless you're attacking us, we don't have a reason to attack you."

"Oh, you have?" said Myri, curious. Events caught up with her, though, and she realised that her curiosity might be assuaged another way. "They're from Sanctity?" she asked Am'arice. She hadn't really paid enough attention to anything other than her family and even them only when some other interest hadn't taken her.

She eyed her siblings and the other two pups. "Tyrrrrr, like they'd hurt me? Look how scrawny they are! I just wanted to know if they were green or blue coz they ate frogs" she said indignantly and then, because she was relatively honest "well, actually, I thought he was a frog, at first, until I saw his fur - I've never seen anything his colour except those little slimy things". She didn't mean to offend, but tact wasn't her strong point.

She huffed, looking around the clearing at the huddle of pups and considered her mornings inquiries somewhat ruined. Still, the puzzle of the two pups colours still needed figuring out. "So... why are you such weird colours?" she asked, indelicately. "I mean, I figured it was cos you ate frogs and stuff...?" it was so much easier having subjects who could speak, she thought to herself.
