Happy day! The wild dog's splotchy tail wagged wildly as he bounded back and forth, water exploding around his paws whenever he landed in the small stream. It was hot, but the water was nice and cool. And fishy. There were fish in it. Now how had he caught them before...it was hard. But fun. And worth it.
Or it would be if there was someone to see when he succeeded. Like that pretty black cheetah-girl had. They'd only crossed paths for a bit, but she had been interesting. Oh yes, very much so. He hadn't known felines could be so very pleasant. And while Aandag still preferred dogs to cats, for many reasons some a bit more obvious, she had been nice. Mind-opening really. He wouldn't mind spending some more time with her or someone like her.
"Whoops!" he choked, giving himself a good shake once he'd floundered to the shore again, water spraying in every direction. That had not been intentional, falling flat on his face underwater like that. And he hadn't even caught the slippery silver fish either! Yeesh, this was hard.

Hm. Oh, what to do with herself? Ikinya was feeling more than a mite peckish and yet her luck for scrounging up a meal seemed to be low at the moment. Her belly growled for the dozenth time and she ignored it for the time being. She bet she'd have better luck if she wasn't alone. Her family had sort of gone their separate ways as she and her siblings matured. She had no idea where any of them went, but occasionally she'd pick up a little hint of their scents or some tidbit of information. Usually nothing very helpful or about someone else entirely! Ah, well. She'd worry about them when there was pressing matters on her mind, like lunch.
The patchy wild dog was nosing around in some long grasses when she paused her scavenging. What was that? Splashing? Well, she had heard the soft babbling of a stream a little bit ago, perhaps she wasn't alone any more. Meandering out of the thick of the grass, she blinked as she spotted the splotchy male. Ikinya padded out a few steps before pausing. She had emerged just in time to see him shaking himself off. "Excuse me," She began with a bit of a grin. "If I may inquire, what are you doing?"

Oh, so close that time too!
Aandag shook himself briskly, snorting water that had somehow wound up in his nose. Yeesh. It had worked the other day with that cheetah, why was he suddenly so unable to catch these slippery silver things? It was like he'd lost his touch or something!
Dripping ears flicked up at the sound of a voice. A female voice. A lovely female voice belonging to...ooh, a pretty pretty girl. From his own species this time. Awesome. The splotchy tail wagged in playful invitation.
"I thought I'd try my paw at fishing, sweetheart," he explained brightly, "Care to join me? Or were you hoping for something in particular?"
Luck be a lady, someone to spend some time with. Someone who might possibly be able to appropriate him. How fun!

Angling her head slightly, Ikinya flashed a little bit of an incredulous grin. Her? Trying to fish? She'd never fished a day in her life. Hm. Well, he did certainly seem friendly enough.
"Fishing, you say?" Her tail wagged gently behind her. She was always up for trying something new, maybe a little challenge. "I can't say I've ever fished before, but I can certainly try my paw at it." She padded closer and gave a short laugh. "How about one thing at a time, hm? For instance, maybe your name?"
Was fishing all about splashing around, hoping to land on something? There surely had to be a bit more technique than that. Ikinya waded into the shallows and looked to the male. "So, how do we do this? Show me how?" She could learn a handy skill and it would get her lunch! There wasn't really a down side that she could see.

"All anyone can ever do is try," Aandag assured her cheerily, his eyes bright and excited as he watched her wade towards him. "And my name is Aandag. What's yours? Something absolutely lovely, I'm sure, else it certainly wouldn't suit." Maybe he was laying it on a little thick, but from his open expression and playfully wagging tail, it was a little bit hard to tell if he was blatently flirting with her or just extremely childish. Really, he could go either way.
"Well..." Aandag mused when she asked him to show her how to fish. He stared at the water for a while, the wag of his tail gradually slowing as his attention shifted. "Those cats just take a swing and land the fish right up on the shore, but it doesn't seem to work like that for me. I thought I'd try biting one, but they're very slippery...almost got one though!" he added, just in case she didn't think he was going to be any good. "And I caught a couple just yesterday too! It's a little tricky is all."
Just a little. And now there weren't as many fish about as when he'd started...it was like they'd heard him or something. Which was silly, because fish didn't have any ears! ...right?
