It was rare for him to be alone, Ivanova his most loyal and constant companion. Without her, he was left with his thoughts, and ambitions, and perhaps even a little lonesome. But not that lonely. He knew she wasn't far, he'd left her sleeping in the shelter of the trees they'd rested under the last time they'd slept. Night had day were difficult to tell out here, when the darkness stretched on and on. But it was getting milder. Warmer. Spring was approaching, and with it was the light of day.
Until then, Kirai's world was lit only by the distant stars and occasionally the odd light of the aurora borialis, the northern lights. Icy blue eyes watched the faint twinkle of the star, the tiny points of light in the dark world of winter. He hadn't gone far from her, would never leave her alone and exposed.
But he'd no desire for more sleep. They'd spoken of things he'd kept alive like tiny embers in a storm, held closer to his heart than he would ever care to admit. Now he had some thinking to do. And planning. He wanted to be alone for a bit, and in his early waking had traveled to a rocky outcropping, near enough still to see the tips of the trees and hear, in the near-silent world, if she awakened without him.
It was peaceful here, harsh and empty though it was.

Jiao smiled as she plunged her nose into a hole a rabbit had gone down. She didn't plan on eating or hurting it, but it sure was fun chasing it!! Smiling to herself, and still glowing from her excitement, she trotted off among the rocky outcropping. Due to the constant darkness, she might have blended it, if it weren't for her bright markings. She'd been spotted on more than one occasion trying to sneak up on something she wanted to eat, but she loved the chase, and running in general. It wasn't til she was practically on top of him until she spotted the red male. He seemed the brooding type, but he intrigued her. With a bright smile upon her mostly silver face, she approached him.

Dark ears swiveled to the sound of approaching pawsteps long before Kirai bothered to turn his head. Another dhole. Interesting, he'd not met anyone outside of Ivanova in quite a long while. Her markings were...unusual. The colors were quite bright against her dark coat, and in the night she might have blended quite well if it weren't for them.
The dark dhole said nothing as she approached him, noting the bright smile and calmly taking it to be a measure of friendliness. Or insanity. With the odd cycle of day and night out here, it either were quite possible really.
