To put it bluntly, Cat was acting like a child as he waited for his next student. Given Aludra By'arre had taken both fire-magic and swordfighting classes, Cat had the perfect idea for what to teach him. Hopefully the spawn would be as excited about it as he was. While he was waiting, he hadn't seen any reason not to try a little swordfighting himself. So the full-grown Eilian was caterwauling around his classroom with a whippy fencing saber, swatting at various enemies and generally enjoying himself. If any of his math students had seen him, they probably would have either been completely flabbergasted or have busted a gut laughing.

Aludra was proud of his ability to carry his recently-grown brother at all. Honestly, he would have sooner believed that the naga had grown too heavy to be carried around at all, but with how abnormally stubby Haley's tail was, he tended to being lighter than the other half-snakes that Aludra knew about - not that he knew many. He had the Eilian draped awkwardly over his shoulders, clinging tightly to one of Aludra's arms with one of his own scaled arms, the other busy jabbing a small dagger into the air in front of them, earning quite a few odd looks. Aludra had bought the dagger -with his father's money, of course- for Haleriun for the sake of the boy being able to entertain himself or even learn something during the elder's spirituality class.

Aludra, on the other hand, had a more life-sized sword strapped to his back, one that he'd managed to win from his melee teacher and was very much proud of. Er, for. Whatever. Why his spirituality teacher wanted him to have the sword with him for class, he wasn't sure, but he did know that he'd gotten much better than he used to be. After completely freaking out following his first spirituality class, he'd come to terms with his fire manipulation and had thusly educated himself on different ways to control it.

He gingerly pushed the door open to his spirituality class, glancing in and biting back what was sure to be a barking laugh at the sight of his supposed teacher. Clearing his throat to assert his presence, he entered the classroom with an amused smile on his face, letting his brother slide off of his shoulders. "Well, you certainly appear to be enjoying yourself. Mister Rowley, I presume? I'm Aludra By'arre, here for a spirituality class. I... hope you don't mind that my younger brother accompanied me here. He shouldn't cause much trouble and tends toward being little more than cute and occasionally unhappy."

Cat had not been expecting Aludra and company to enter so soon, but wasn't embarrassed that they had seen him prancing around like that. If anything, he was happy they were amused. Aludra's attempt at a stifled laugh startled him enough that he tripped and fell off his desk, but laughed easily, fluttering his wings. "Ah, gave me a start there. And yes, yes I really was." He stood up and dusted himself off after placing the saber back on the desk, then turned back to address his student...s.

"Good afternoon, Aludra. You can call me Cat, no need for such formality. And no, no, your little brother is fine, as long as he's careful." He bent down to smile at the adorable naga, waving gently at him. "Hello there. I like your little sword."

Greetings taken care of, Cat straightened back up in a business-like manner, smile directed back at Aludra. "So, I bet you're wondering why I asked you to bring your sword to a Spirituality class, huh? Well, I have the answer. After observing the previous classes that you've taken, I decided that today, I'm going to teach you how to make a sword out of fire. Your sword-sword is going to be the model to help you train." He smiled even wider as he puffed out his chest a little, obviously extremely proud of himself for coming up with such a creative idea. "Sound interesting?"

Aludra jumped a bit when his teacher tripped, anklewings stiffening, a strange representation of him preparing to blame himself for his teacher somehow being wounded. Of course, that didn't happen, and the boy relaxed a bit, sighing softly and thankfully that he didn't manage to break his teacher. The smile that ghosted across his lips grew to be noticeable with just about every word out of Cat's mouth. When the man tried to talk to Hale, the little boy's brown-violet eyes widened and he dove behind Aludra's legs, peeking out with big eyes and jabbing his dagger toward the large, wing-ed grey man.

Aludra's tri-coloured eyes got wide at the idea of what his lesson was, that transferring to a huge grin that spread across his face, something that would have been treasured by the people who knew how rare it really was. "Is that so?" he questioned, rather aghast at the idea, tail flicking back and forth excitedly. Upon seeing the tail move, Hale gasped and pounced on it, stabbing at it with his dull little dagger, making Aludra wince a bit before chuckling and moving his tail for entertainment's sake.

Shining eyes turned back to Cat and he nodded a few times, pulling the sword he had out of the sheath on his back, looking between it and his bare hand. A soft chuckle fell from his lips as he looked back up at his teacher. "If that's the case, how do you believe that we should start?" he asked, excitement obvious. Since his cowardice when retrieving the greed demoness, he'd been looking for ways to get over hiding rather than fighting. Offensive magic definitely helped.

Cat grinned to match Aludra's, pleased that his student was excited about his idea. He always had the slightest insecurity when he came up with his class ideas, as they were usually very unusual. But then again, he didn't know a teenage boy who wouldn't want to be able to make a sword out of fire, so he was probably safe on this one. He laughed lightly at the antics of Hale, his own tail swishing in kind. "Well, for starters, I think it would be best that Hale move to the side a little. Toddlers and swords and fire don't really mix well, don't you think?" He paused as he tried to think of something to entertain the child, and then patted the top of his desk. "If you want, Hale, you can sit up here by me and be my assistant. If Aludra does something bad, you can poke at him until he does better."

Shaking his head and laughing once again, Cat walked around the desk to retrieve a very fancy sword hilt. It had been a little expensive, especially considering that he was just going to give it away, but it was Cat; there was no expense when it came to his students. Besides, Aludra was a Greed kid, so he was sure the shiny would appeal to him greatly. He walked back and handed this to Aludra. "This is the hilt that you'll be using to make your sword out of fire, once you get that far, of course. Do well, and you can keep it." It had to be handed to Cat, he sure knew how to motivate Greed kids.

"Now, for starters, why don't you try to make just a blast of fire come out of the hilt? It doesn't have to be sword-shaped quite yet; we'll work on honing that in a bit."

Haleriun didn't seem to enjoy the idea of not being able to be around Aludra, quickly slithering to cling tightly to his big brother's ankle, sticking his slitted tongue out at the man who was trying to lure him away. All of his worry or paranoia dissipated immediately when he was given permission to jab at Aludra if the boy messed up during his lesson. Smiling softly and still holding tightly to his little sword, he slithered over to where Cat was, struggling a little bit in getting from the floor to the chair, the chair to the desk, but doing so eventually - with Cat's help, of course.

Aludra continued to smile when his brother finally gave in to the threat, tri-coloured eyes rolling at the fact that the best way to motivate the little naga was to promise him pain against his elder sibling. When the hilt was brought out, it was no surprise that the greed demon's eyes snapped to it immediately, his own sword being slowly replaced in its hilt as he stared, looking surprised, to say the least. Those same eyes glanced back to Cat for a moment, questioning how well the man could be trusted in this situation, before grinning even further, stretching out his hand to take hold of the glittering hilt. It was heavy in his partially-scaled hand, a weight that felt nice. The hilt certainly would have cost his teacher a pretty penny...

Once again, his attention was recalled when Cat spoke again. Hanging on his every word, Aludra only nodded when he felt it was appropriate before looking at the sword hilt again. Okay, burst of fire, that shouldn't be too terribly hard. Steadying his breathing, Aludra held the hilt in one hand, focusing all of his energy on one small task, to shoot a flame out the--

"s**t!!"

The hilt clattered to the floor only a moment after a rather brilliant flash of flame, the spawn clutching the wrist of a rather pink-looking left hand, tears biting at the corners of his eyes. With the most awkward of sheepish smiles on his face, and his body trembling from head-to-toe, he glanced toward Cat with a hesitant, scared-sounding chuckle. "That, uh... that wasn't precisely what I was supposed to have accomplished, w-was it?"

Cat was pleased that his offer got Haleriun away from Aludra and the dangerous things he would be attempting shortly, and was doubly pleased when Aludra stared at his gift. A small chuckle bubbled through the air as he held the hilt out a little more to Aludra, as if confirming that it was real. "Yes, you can take it. Consider it a present, or something." He shrugged lightly; it would sound a little odd if Aludra went around telling people that his older, gay teacher had given him a present. But that wasn't something he should be thinking about right now, so he settled himself into watching Aludra's first attempt.

A sympathetic groan and a wince accompanied Aludra's spectacular show of burning himself, and quickly Cat was there with a cool rag and some bandages. He had known that Aludra's fire still burned him from his file, but he had hoped that the spawn had gotten a better handle on controlling it because of that fact; apparently not. Still, it was a difficult thing that Cat was asking him to do, so it wasn't like he was disappointed or anything. He smiled gently at the boy's question and shook his head. "No, I'd rather you not give yourself second-degree burns just yet. But it's fine; once your hand is ready, you can try again."

Cat bent down and retrieved the hilt for Aludra, holding it while he waited for the spawn's hand to heal. "You don't need to produce a huge blast of fire outright, you know. Just getting the flame to go from your body and through the hilt successfully is good enough. It can be as skinny or small as you wish." He smiled warmly and held the expensive thing towards his student. "Ready to try again?"

"Oh,"
he added as an afterthought as he turned back to face Haleriun, "I had forgotten about you, Hale, I'm sorry. Do you think that that mistake warranted a poke?"

Aludra was definitely grateful for the help that came to him almost instantly, but that didn’t keep the flush from rising all the way up to the tips of his pointed-and-pierced ears. A soft laugh fell from his throat, followed by a hiss when the damp towel was pressed against his palm. Aludra nodded gently at the explanation from his teacher, tail flicking across the floor behind him as he took the towel for himself, dabbing it gently across his olive skin. The blush on his face only increased in colour at what the man said, and he grumbled softly to himself, almost as though he was hoping that what he said wasn’t heard. “That’s all I was attemping...”

Yet, his teacher had given him a bladeless hilt, something that would have no kind of meaning if he didn’t end up using it for something. The teenager took a deep breath, letting it out with a woosh before putting the towel down on the nearest thing that didn’t look like it would be ruined by the water and moving to retrieve the hilt once again. Again, he would try to get any kind of fire from his hand to the other side of the hilt, but… how could he do that?

Calmly, he chose something that he hoped would work. He could think of his magic as something physical; that wasn’t too terribly hard, and it never had been. He could think of it as a string, for now, a thread when he got better. For now, it would be a string. Closing his eyes, he wrapped both hands around the handle, taking a deep, slow breath once again. A thin string, moving from the palms of his hands and into the sword, gathering together in the handle, and slithering steadily up the center of the hilt, remaining nothing but a string of energy until it erupted through the other side… Slowly but surely, a tiny flame began to grow from the hilt, making it look a bit like a torch.

Aludra was so deep in focus, he didn’t even notice as his brother stabbed at his tail in punishment for his mistake.

Cat watched critically as Aludra tried again, a smile slowly blooming on his face as the tiny flame began to grow, extending from the luxurious hilt slowly but surely, like a very tentative rope reaching outwards. It wasn't very steady, but it was certainly promising, and Cat let Aludra focus on extending the flame farther before he spoke. He didn't want to mess with the spawn's focus, not with the intense look of concentration on that olive face. A light laugh fell from the man's throat; it was rather heartening to see such a diligent student at work.

At length, Cat stepped forward and laid a hand on Aludra's shoulder, signaling him to stop for the moment. "Very good, Aludra, that was much better. Now, if you think you have the feel of it, I want to you pick up your sword-sword, if you please." He didn't think that the Greed spawn would be that willing to let the treasure let go, but it was an unfortunate necessity. "I want you to try to do the same thing that you just did with the empty hilt, but around your metal sword, so that you can get a mold for your fire sword." His tail flicked happily behind him. "Of course, if you feel that you need a bit more practice, go right ahead. I don't want to push you."

Aludra let a grin spread across his face as he dropped the hilt a few moments after he was able to get the flame to crawl through it, having overheated it despite his attempts to keep from doing just that. He shook his hand out gently and gave a smile to the man who was his teacher for the day. It was a few moments before the man laid a hand on Aludra's shoulder. A chuckle passed his lips and, after rubbing his hand a bit, he moved to pick up the hilt that he'd been given, passing it gently back and forth between his hands as he listened to Cat's next instructions.

His eyes widened slightly, the tip of one of his ears twitching softly, tail flicking a bit. At the movement of the ligament, Hale's burnished violet eyes glowed and he pounced on it, this time just clinging to it with both arms as well as his own tail, giggling happily as he did so. Aludra wiggled his tail slightly for the frisky boy, letting him attack it at his leisure, barely flinching when the small boy started biting at it like an over-excited puppy.

"Are... you sure that would be the best course of action? Wouldn't it be a risk to melt the blade of my sword, I mean?" he asked nervously, worrying about damaging his poor sword in the process of practicing his new magic. "Do you believe that I would be able to perhaps try and form the blade of a fire-sword... without risking that? Or just practicing it, regardless. After all, I still make the hilt quite hot without intending to do so..."

Cat paused in all his movements at the boy's question, completely blindsided by it. Not only had that been a situation he had never foreseen (he never had a head for science), it was the first time that any of his spawn students had questioned his instruction. That is, they had hemmed and hawed and asked many 'are you sure?'s, but he had never been given such a... a correction. To be honest, he wasn't quite sure how to respond. On one level, he was offended, on another embarrassed, and somewhere in there was a measure of gratefulness muddling about. Certainly Aludra had just averted a possible disaster with his decision, but at the same time...

After what felt like a while but actually amounted to about ten seconds, Cat managed to rationalize away his feelings of anger towards the boy for simply making a suggestion. After all, it wasn't like he had shoved Cat's oversight down his throat. The Eilian flashed a smile towards his student, trying not to look overly awkward, and nodded. "That- That makes perfect sense, actually. Don't know why I didn't think of it, but no matter. You're quite right, of course." He gestured for Aludra to perform his magic again. "Please, go ahead. It will take a lot of concentration, but focus on honing the blade of the sword like it was actual metal. That will help you form the shape easier. Oh, wait." Before the fire could erupt, Cat darted forward and pried Hale off of his brother's tail, placing him back in safety on the desk before turning back to Aludra. "Alright, now show me what you got."
