Mawu was worried sick. She had wanted to spend a day or two with her daughter Onalim but was completely lost to how to find her Upper Class daughter in this pride. She was getting very frightened looking, a small part of her scared she had some how lost her only connection to her past pride. She was very shy looking at that moment, her head lightly lowered and her purple eyes gazing around with almost a teary look to them.
She was so shy to ask anyone of they had seen her pale daughter, being that she hadn't really spoken to many in the pride since joining. She was busy enjoying her 'freedom' so to speak, being that her pelt no longer made her unsuitable for anything. She could be a proud mother again.
If only she could find Onalim...

Ulivuma didn't really know what to do with himself, especially since he didn't really have to do anything. He was happy to take advantage of his rank, at least to buy him the time he needed (or thought he needed) to make some decisions about what he wanted to do. But.. it wasn't really making anything easier on him now. His mother had only been so helpful, she had been comforting but then put a challenge into his mind. He could find love, he could have a family, that would give him some sense of meaning, a clearer sense of his own identity.
He was wandering around with nowhere in particular in mind to go, trying to decide if he wanted to go talk to his mother again today.. but decidedly not liking that idea since nothing had really changed since then. He was startled out of his thoughts when he spotted a lost looking, unfamiliar lioness nearby. He paused a moment to stare but realized he should probably go see if something was up and jumped to it.
"Hello? Excuse me!"

Mawu startled when a voice rang out and the words were apparently aimed at her. She lifted her head, her ears flattening against her dark skull, as she spotted the chocolate colored stranger. She wasn't sure of his ranking at all and pretty much had no clue if she was supposed to act a certain way-but she was pretty shy as it was.
She blinked softly and started to walk slowly over to him, her purple eyes downcast. "Um... yes?" She asked, looking up at him for a moment before turning her head to the side, her eyes gazing about for her pale daughter.
Oh where was she. "Have you by chance seen a pale lioness, yellow winged markings on her back?"

Once he was up close, Uli decided that the lioness was, in fact, familiar.. just.. he couldn't exactly figure out why. She looked rather nervous when she turned and addressed him and he immediately realized she must be in a lower class, not necessarily the low class but somewhere down there. She wasn't in his class, that was for sure--
"Onalim?" he said suddenly when his mind caught up with what she was asking him, he definitely recognized that description. It was a lioness in the high class, someone he'd met because, well, he was in the same class as her and that was part of the official joining ceremony. He'd barely paid enough attention at that, though, or he realized he'd have really recognized this lioness. She would have been there, they were family.
"Um, not today but I guess I haven't really been social today, either," he frowned.

She looked excited when he said her name. "Yes. Onalim!" She said, a smile crossing across her face. But his last phrase made her loose her smile. "Oh... well..." She paused and sat down, her eyes sullen. "I just haven't seen her lately... I know she is busy and i don't want to keep bothering her but I am having a hard time letting go..."
She looked up at him for a moment, not sure if she recognized him or not. She wiggled her nose side to side in thought before her ears twitched quickly and she perked up. "I'm sorry... I don't think I know your name. I am Mawu..." She said, a small smile across her lips.

"Oh," he said, still frowning as she explained what the situation was a little more clearly. She was obvious Onalim's mother, then. He recognized it with his own mother in some ways, but at least his mother was in the same pride she'd always been in, not recently joined.
"Oh! My name is Ulivuma," he introduced himself, smiling once again, "I'm in the same class as Onalim, I'll probably see her around, I can tell her you were looking for her--"
He paused, his smile brightening a bit.
"Or I can help you look now, of course!"

Mawu grinned. A young man in her daughters rank. And he knew onalim, probably not in a very familiar way but hopefully Onalim was getting out and knowing others. Course, onalim was so bright and cheerful all the time, she doubted she was having trouble.
"Hello Ulivuma!" She said with a soft smile. "What ever you wish... I wouldn't mind walking around... see if I can find her... like I said, I feel worried not knowing but... onalim is the only connection I have to my past... so I am very protective of her... I hope she understands and doesn't see me as a horribly clingy mother."

"No, I understand," he said, even though that wasn't really her concern for this, "It's perfectly reasonable, that's what mothers do, isn't it? And I mean, it's not like she might not feel the same way. My parents are both slaves, that influences how I behave even if I'm in the high class, y'know?" It was very true, he figured that was part of why he wasn't entirely comfortable how he was. Along with the fact his dad used to be the king and his mother was the reason he wasn't anymore, of course.
"Let's see if we can find her, we can ask around," he said decisively.

Mawu nodded her head. And when mention of his parents came up, she wrinkled her nose with a grin. "Then I may know them. I am also a slave ranked lioness. So I may see them around..." she said, though she did her best to stay out of everyones way. "Parents are parents... and Onalim is my little doll. She's so lovely... I am so glad here she can be seen for her full potential and not as a low ranking because of her paleness."
She lifted her head and gazed around. "She is no doubt flirting with boys. Hehe." She chuckled. "She is such a little flirt!"

"Oh! Well, yeah," he said, a little surprised when she revealed that she was a slave as well, "My parents are Unyezi and Nerit. There aren't many slaves and they're probably the most talked about or purposefully ignored so you should know them." He couldn't help but sigh quietly. He didn't blame them but he didn't care for that particular fact, it made it a little more awkward just being him.
"Hmmmm," he thought about the bit of information she offered about what Onalim might be up to.. until he realized what she said about paleness, "Wait- what? Low rank because of how you look?"

mawu nodded. "Yes... we were both lowly ranked because we lacked the proper and beautiful colors our old pride had. I was the lowest... because black was considered very very... well... not good... as in something I did in my past life, was terrible in a way I suppose. I didn't want that life for my child, to be looked down upon and for goodness sakes, I wanted her to find a mate and be happy without worrying about passing on her pelt colors..."
She sighed. "I had a mate once, who I thought loved me... but I was not destined to be with him... he left me and my children... that is what spired our leaving... Onalim came with me because she would not stray my side... she is a good child." She smiled.

Ulivuma listened as she explained the system of her old pride, his expression showing exactly what he thought- it sounded rather ridiculous, that your fur color should matter when you could hardly help who your parents were. Not the least of the things influencing his opinion was that hew as a very dark color as well. He was OK with low ranks in one way but his fur not being beautiful determining it was strange. He didn't have quite the capacity or interest in appreciating another pride's beliefs for what they were, he was more than willing to call them strange and be done with it.
"Oh, well," he paused, not entirely sure what to say, "That just seems silly. I think your colors are perfectly beautiful, and.. I guess you are a slave but that doesn't mean you aren't pretty." He didn't even act a little bit shy about saying that all out loud, he borrowed her words to start but the rest was just a matter-of-fact opinion of his. He knew all kinds of lower ranked lions around here, they were as pretty or ugly as anybody else.

Mawu openly blushed at his comment. She wasn't used to such words of praise. She chuckled nervously. "Now now... I know I am not the most lovely fish in the watering hole... I am dark as the night sky herself and my brother happened to be blessed with a moon marking on himsef. I just got my hip marking..." She paused to look at it. "Other wise I am homely."
She smiled "My daughter gained the brilliance of the sun and the wings of a goddess. I envy her so..." She paused and then chuckled. "I'm sorry, I keep turning our conversation to my child. That's rude of me." She smiled. "I do not mind being a slave. I am sort of used to it anyway so I didn't change much but no one will look down upon me and well... males won't avoid me."

He let her say her piece about how ugly she was but he didn't look at all convinced by it. He might not have been completely accepting of another culture, but he was content to use her previous life and pride as an excuse for her opinion. If you spent your life being called ugly, it wouldn't take just one lion telling you that you weren't to make you believe it. He was fine up until she got to the last point about being avoided.
"Because of the whole color thing? Rank here can make a difference in how pursued you are, I guess, since males have to take your rank to be your mate but it doesn't stop everybody," he shrugged, "My dad used to be the king and he stepped down to marry my mother, a slave. There's another slave who did it, he was in a fairly high rank before he married, too."
He shrugged. It definitely wasn't a big deal to him.

Mawu looked fairly surprised at his words. A higher up stepping down to be with the one he loved. What a dream! She looked rather starry eyed for a moment, imagining the love and devotion a mate would have to have to lose their position for love. She felt a pang of sadness and thought of Vestip, who no doubt was now in the lands of his true love. Perhaps they had cubs by now.
oh she didn't want to bring up old wounds,
"My brother is a guard here... so the gods have looked down upon him with happiness. And Onalim, well as you know, she is a Lady. I am so proud of her... and it suits her as well. I am content as a slave, I can be honest to say that it isn't that much different from my past pride... except it isn't about what's on the outside anymore. "
