Alais pulled herself onto one of the many 'islands' that littered the swamp, shaking water from her fur, then carefully settling it. She had come to the island with a purpose, and she was going to make sure she looked good BEFOREHAND. She always did. She let out a soft laugh, and finished her grooming.
Alais was always early. ALWAYS. She didn't really want Fleance to see her just out of the water, disheveled and damp. Well...she was still damp, but certainly NOT disheveled. She smoothed out the tuft of fur on the top of her head again, just to be totally sure.Fleance paced nervously. He'd tried to look nice for his meeting with Ninon, he allowed his cubs to groom his mane, and then asked Yoshiteru to clean up what mess they'd made earlier in the day. All he could hope for now was that their handiwork had kept during his travel. He raised a paw to smooth down any loose hairs, but he stopped himself. Looking at his paw, he saw the damp mud on the bottom, and the ashes crusted on his paws as the water he'd walked through dried. But there was nothing else he could do now…
Shyly, he approached their meeting spot, and his heart skipped a beat when he saw Alais. He had plenty of things to tell her about, namely about his litter with a lioness, and also, probably, about how he'd missed her.Alais perked as she saw Fleance, smile growing. She always missed him when he left...but she had to stay where she was, and he had things of his own to do. Not to mention staying in one place too long could prove troublesome for her God of Ashes.
"Fleance...it's good to see you again." Very good. But she didn't let just how giddy she was show. No...that would not befit a lady.

He met her slowly, and leaned forward to nuzzle her. But it was brief, it was still Fleance, after all. "It's good to see you too, Alais." But now he had to broach that touchy subject. He looked at her through his shaggy bangs, his red eyes peeking out. There wasn't a horrible size discrepancy between them, with his condition as an adolescent, but he lowered his head slightly to be more on level with hers.
"Uhm, Alais, I think we have some things to talk about." This was strange for him. Fleance never really felt tied down to a mortal before. A goddess- well, that would be different, but the brevity of mortal life was not his problem, he usually kept a few mortal 'mates' at a time, but she was different. Fleance felt like he owed more to her. Breaking eye contact, he sighed, ashes on his breath.Alais returned the brief nuzzle and purred a bit. Then blinked, and nodded. "We do...we do indeed." She laughed softly. "Quite a bit has happened since I last saw you, Fleance."
Etihad, Arden's hidden friend, her deal with Pwani...so much, so very much...Fleance looked at her with concern. But with a cleansing breath, he dismissed most of his fears. Alais was standing right before him now, she was fine. Trying to find the right words, he groaned and looked into her eyes again, "Uhm, Alais. I, uh…" God this was hard… "I'mafather."
Now hopefully she wouldn't ask him to repeat himself, and Fleance was quite ashamed. It was a new feeling for him in concern to his cubs, quite new indeed. He loved his children, his little Kimo especially, but he felt like he'd wronged Alais, and that did not sit well with him.

Alais blinked, then nodded, smiling slightly. It'd only been fair, really. She'd made cubs of her own. And now he had cubs of his own. She moved to pat his paw. "You sound guilty about that, Fleance. You needn't be. Are they beautiful cubs? How many?" And the underlying question in her words...'Are any like me?' She always worried about her god. That he might be caught before she could See his brother coming.
He leaned gently against her. "But I do feel guilty..." With a sigh he thought of his children. "Yes, a beautiful little girl and two handsome boys. I often leave them with Ezriel and my other family, he's just had a litter too, but they're gods." With a slight chuckle he paused. "Little Kimo- the girl- thinks she's a goddess because of her aunts and uncles, her little cousins, and because of me. She thinks her visions are her powers." He shook his head, he'd have to tell her otherwise soon. Before it got her into any trouble. With luck, Alais could help her with them, too.
Alais nodded, nuzzling carefully. "Well...eventually you'll have to tell her otherwise." She kept her smile. "If you'd like, I can help teach her. It'd have to be on the borders, like how we meet, but I wouldn't mind helping her learn how to harness her gift. The boys too." More littles to help out with, possibly! Alais did love cubs. With all her heart. It pained her to know that two of her cubs, one current and one future, would likely not see her again once they grew up.

Fleance agreed. Then she offered what he'd been hoping for and his eyes filled with pleading, "Oh, Alais... If you could... I'd be so grateful!" He nuzzled her more and licked her cheek. Maybe she could help raise the cubs, and be a sort of adoptive mother for the litter. Someday, they could raise these three alongside whoever they had together. But perhaps Fleance was thinking too far into the future, and he should ask one of his children if they were to have any siblings by their adoptive mother later.
Alais laughed softly and purred. "It would be my pleasure, Fleance." Any cubs of his...well, she'd think of them as her cubs. Or at least precious nieces and nephews, if he didn't want her mothering them. "On the topic of little ones...I've a litter as well, fathered by a lion I saw in visions. None show that same ability as me and your littles. But perhaps one of their future cubs will have the ability."
Fleance froze where he stood. She was already a mother? Of the biological nature? Something in him sank. It was one thing for an immortal god to have droves of children, though he was racked with guilt over it, but for Alais to... He had a real double standard about the situation, and it really saddened him. But if she was forgiving, he would be too. "... Tell me about them, Alais". If she would mother his, he'd father hers, and he would father hers.

"They're...a beautiful bunch. There's four of them, two boys and two girls." She leaned into Fleance. "I do my best to teach them to be good gentlemen and ladies, and I've taught them about you. My older son, Asce, has taken quite an interest in helping you somehow. My younger daughter, however, I'm afraid won't be much help." Alais' smile turned sad. "She has another destiny, one that takes her far from here, to a place where our bloodline started."Fleance sighed. He'd really like to meet the cubs but... not today. He was tired and maybe a little bit downtrodden. Of course Alais was a good mother. He bet she was the best. He passingly wondered how Asce could help him, but he didn't doubt that they couldn't come up with a way.
Ahh. So one of the girls had left her mother? So it was like their litters were mirrored, in almost a way. Two boys and a girl to raise.
And that reminded him. A reason to slip away for the day. "I can't wait to meet them, but I should get back to mine. No doubt Yoshiteru has had enough of babysitting for one day, and they're probably hungry, too." With another last nuzzle, he licked her cheek and took a step back, that sad look still in his eyes. "I'll see you again soon, Alais. Near the border again, and if my cubs are big enough to navigate the territory, I'll make sure to bring them along, too. But goodbye for now."Alais nodded, wishing she could take the sadness from his eyes. "I look forward to meeting them. And next time...I can bring my brood as well. I know they'd love to meet you." She tried to smile comfortingly. "Goodbye for now, Fleance. I shall miss you while you're gone." She hadn't meant to say the last bit. But...it slipped out. Like it needed to be said. She hoped it wouldn't turn back on her.The end.
