Stupid flower! Why won't you talk?! The grumpy little white cub slapped the blossom with her paw, sending the petals to scatter in the light breeze. Around her hundreds of flowers more swayed in the same sea-scented air, almos seeming to mock her. Feeling unusually angry over yet another failure to make something her muse she tugged up a few in her mouth and shook them around like she would a mouse or other small bit of food. "Phto!" She spat them back out and huffed. "Dumb plants..."

She knew some of the lions she lived with could talk to the flowers and trees. She'd tried both, and so far neither had worked. She had no reason to doubt that the plants COULD talk--why would her family lie? But so far nothing wanted to talk to her. She knew some of her littermates had begun to hear the voices...She shivered, thinking of what it would mean if she couldn't find her muse.

She was imperfect, a lion, only part of a greater whole that had become disattached and turned into something else. If she couldn't find her muse...how would she turn back into what she was supposed to be one day? It would be terribly sad if she didn't...Well maybe she would try the sea again. Lots of the pride was part of that spirit, maybe this time it'd talk to her.

He had been watching the sea, waiting for the elder albatross to give him more instructions when red petals floated passed him towards the sea. Now normally he would pay no mind to something so small, but those petals would never fly on their own, they were glued on as far as he was concerned. Turning head to look for his muse he instead saw a sibling.

Pithos the muse-less.

What in the world was she doing in the flowers when it was clear she was muse-less and no matter how much yelling she did none would speak with her? Idiot. She should just leave the pride already so they didn’t have to listen to her complain.

Picking himself up he slowly moved forward, still keeping an eye on the spot where his muse would eventually be. “So how does attacking a flower make a muse speak? Wouldn’t you be scaring it more than anything else?” A smile formed as he stared at the flowers before her, feeling bad for them after being abused.

Oh GREAT. Iovit. Of all the people in the pride she could of run into it just HAD to be him. Just because he'd figured his muse out almost his first day looking he thought he was something special. He was always picking on her too, just because she didn't have a muse and would bow down to his high-and-mighty self. What did he think he could do? Get those smelly birds he talked to to poop on her? Well his muse fit at least, they stank and were filthy. And LOUD. Yes, his spirit was obviously from THAT muse.

"Hmmph," She turned her nose up at her brother. "There's a ton of flowers, one or two won't be missed. Besides, they'll just bloom again next year. If it's not my muse it's not my problem." She didn't like being so gruff, he just made her so mad. Wouldn't he feel like lashing out if his muse wouldn't talk to him? She had to admit he was right though. She probably shouldn't be acting up. Violence was the pride's number one no-no."

Despite his abuse she sat down beside him. For a long time she stared out at the sea, as if seeing something. Without looking at him she asked, "How did it feel? I mean...finding your muse. when you first heard it talk, how did you know?" She HATED asking HIM for help, but when she'd ask adults they just laughed and said she'd know when she felt it. Well what if she HAD felt it and not known that was what she was supposed to be feeling? Her brother was a braggart, she was sure she could goad him into telling if asking didn't work.

He had continued to stare at the flowers as Pithos scoffed at meeting up with him. Yeah he knew he wasn’t the most cared for lion in the pride but it didn’t really matter to him. His muse was all he needed, it cared about him and if he ever needed to cry to it, it would listen. That was the best thing of all about them. How kind and caring they were, how they would teach their old comrade how to become what they once were even after sinning. It was beautiful.

Frowning at her reply he shook his head, unable to understand why she was so very angry at the world. Yes muse-lessness was a horrible thing but maybe she was just scaring them all away. Or perhaps… “That might be part of your problem though. You could be scaring your true muse away being as aggressive as you are.” Sighing he looked towards the usual meeting grounds again before looking away. He wasn’t coming today if he wasn’t here already.

“Guess he won’t be here today.” The lion sighed before looking toward his sibling, waiting for her to say something, the ocean glittering in her dark blue orbs. And as she spoke a smile cracked over his face. The feeling was absolutely wonderful.

“I knew because it brought me peace, it told me everything would be alright and that one day I would come back to the family.” Tears threatened to pour from his eyes as he remembered the day the albatross first came to him. If you have a muse, you will feel it. “

Eyeing her again he snickered. “Where have you looked? All the same places constantly? All plants, water, sky and earth? “

Her brother was arrogant, of course, whic was what she'd counted on to get her information. She felt some pangs of jealousy as he talked about his muse...felling like he belonged, like he didn't have to worry because he knew where he was destined to go. "What should I do then? Just sit around and wait for it to come find me? What if it's a fish or something, I can't just swim forever. If I don't go looking, I don't think it'll be able to find me." She harrumphed again. He said she was too aggressive in her search, but since she was a part of SOME spirit or other, surely it would understand. If she came from it, and supposedly would know her and lover her and welcome her despite anything, then why not? She'd obviously done something bad enough to be turned into a lion, she was pretty sure nothing she did now could be worse.

"I don't feel anything around here. Or anywhere in the pride. I've tried the sky, the clouds, the birds, waves, sand, fish, shells, crabs, swimmy-things, grass, trees, flowers, vines, bushes, rocks, dirt, even bugs and leaves and stuff!" She frowned and sighed. "It's like there's nothing left to try. I either missed something, or...whatever my muse is, wherever I came from, it's not here in the pride's lands." That was a thought. "Can muses live other places maybe?"
