Counting and waiting was hard work. Well not hard work, just unnerving "twenty savannah, twenty one savannah" he muttered, counting the seconds since Fai had left him. She had gone to fly a circle around the pride lands, she assured him she wasn't going far, assured him she was just checking it out and maybe picking up a mouse or two on the way but the seconds had been ticking by.

It almost felt like he had lost an appendage when Fai wasn;t there. She had been his only friend for such a long time, he knew she was coming back though. As she got closer his heart always felt less weighted. He had to allow her, her freedom, he knew that, he was just completely useless without her, almost afraid that he would be bird-less again. He didn't know what he would do without her.

"Fourty five Savannah" He counted spotting a blue dot on the near horizon, she was on her way back, it was okay, he could see her. His heart slowed to a steady beat and he stopped counting she would be nesting in his mane again in another few minutes, she had to eat she was probably scouting out a mouse and she'd be right back.

Laying down slowly the soft brown lion with his beautiful whorles and spots settles and closes his eyes, he knew he had no need to worry. She always came back to him, but there was always the slight fear that she wouldn't, it had taken most of his life to find he he didn't want to lose her now they were finally home. It had only been a few days and he was slowly settling in, having found Tili and her bonded Pisha, they were living in a den together as a family, remembering days gone by. He allowed himself one of those memories now, memories of a happy childhood, allowed himself to relax while he waited for Fai to come back.

The sun left bright outlines around the bleached clouds, and the sky was a clear blue that day. Ajili was taking a walk through the Aka'mleli lands, enjoying the scenery--enjoying the peace. There was a smile on her face, and her bonded, Dhani, was taking a snooze on the lioness's back. Dhani was never good with daytime. For whatever reason, she'd become almost nocturnal. Either that, or she just loved to sleep. A lot.

Shoulders hunched and head relaxed, the older lioness admired the colors of the grass and trees, the sky and dirt, the clouds and sun...it was a lovely day. It was hard to believe that something as devastating as the Great Earthquake had happened; hard to believe her son Ingi was now full-grown--a handsome adult male; hard to believe that it had been so long since her mate had gone missing...

But life moved on, and Ajili had many things to smile about.

As she continued her walk, a blur on the horizon came into her view. Her eyesight was becoming ever-so-dulled with age, and it took her a few squints to realize that the shape was that of a reclining male lion. What's more, it was one she had never met before.

Suddenly filled with an eager anticipation, the lioness quickened her pace, happy to meet someone new in the pride. Perhaps she could be of help? Maybe the boy needed a friend--someone to lend an ear. Oh, goodness, perhaps he was hungry...

The sound of paw steps approaching made him open his odd coloured eyes. He blinked away the bleariness that closing his eyes to the sun had caused and smiled. It was a proper greeting, or so he had been told, to smile at others. It had been so long since he had been around other lions. He was really out of shape with this whole, meeting and greeting thing and while he was finding it quite easy with Tili and by extension her bonded, he really didn't know how to greet or approach or even start a conversation with anyone new.

This lioness was definitely new. Not that he had known everyone in the pride when he had left on his mission, to find his bonded, but he had never seen this face before. Pursing his lips he takes a deep breath and lets it back out again looking to the sky, Fai was still some distance off, he needed her to come and save him, to tell him what to say.

He would just have to improvise "I don't know you." He states, hardly the conversation starter he had meant to voice. 'Hello' would have been more suited, or 'nice day', but no, he had to state the obvious. He really was very out of practice. "I did mean to put a hello in there." He recovers, smiling in an apologetic manner, ashamed almost of his own bluntness of speech.
