I'm not having a problem or anything, I'm just curious... why does it hurt so many girls to insert a tampon? ^^; I mean, they're a lot smaller than a p***s, and NOTHING compared to a baby, so... why does this happen? I've never had a problem with them, so I can't imagine how or why they wouldn't fit, or why it would hurt. ^^;
It's just been bugging me forever, I can't figure it out. O:

It's hard to explain if you don't have the female anatomy. For a lot of girls, it's hard to insert anything if you're nervous or anxious and are tensed up. Being tight or tensed up makes it a lot harder to insert ANYTHING, even a tampon - that's why some girls try certain positions to get their tampon inserted, or they put a little lube on the end, etc.

For other girls, it's just painful to have their v****a stretched by a tampon. Others, like me, are either bothered by the idea of tampons or just don't find them comfortable to insert and/or wear.

I know that the first time I inserted a tampon I hadn't really even figured out how my body worked. I have never masturbated or anything and I'm pretty sure I broke my hymen. Often times it's just a matter of not understanding the anatomy and having never been at all stretched before.

I loathe tampons. I'm really small in that area, so anything in there when I'm not lubricated hurts like mad, and even when I AM lubricated, it still hurts. Moving in them hurts too. Plus I just don't like using them at all, even if they didn't hurt. But, they're needed, and there's nothing I can do about it. u___u

Are you trying the smallest tampons you can find? Tampax makes some pretty small ones, and you may want to dry the cotex gentle glide. I'm opposed to the plastic on general earth nut principal, but if it helps, by gum, do it!

Sometimes it hurts because its not inserted properly. When inserting, you're suppose to push the tampon up at a slight angle. If they don't, some girls hit the wall of the v****a; This causes them to push against the sensitive wall because they think its just not fitting. I've done that.

It can also be painful if you're dry down there. Personally (and this may sound a little gross) I'll do my business, pull mine out and immediately insert mine. This way it's slightly lubricated. Believe me, everything hurts going in when you're dry. It also hurts like no one's business when you try pulling a tampon out that you just put in whether its because it wasn't inserted right of what. The tampon immediately soaks up whatever is inside of you, making it an unpleasant experience taking it right back out.

I remember when I first used a tampon....I didn't know only the tissue part was suppose to go in. Needless to say...I stuck the ENTIRE applicator in. You can imagine how awkward my walk was. I kept it in for around an hour in a half thinking the weird small pain was "natural". Ever after I couldn't take it and took it out...I didn't find out till about a week later that I did it wrong when I was discussing it with my sister.

Think about it...if you break your leg and can't walk for a while and then you try to move it again, the muscles are stiff and whatnot and it hurts. Apply the same principle to your v****a, which is also a muscle that hasn't been used. It also helps to use a smaller tampon. Also, if it's not inserted far enough, you'll still feel it.

I personally dont have any problem. I think that some girls arent really comfortable using them and they're scared. As the people above me have said when you tense up like that it's going to harder for you get it in.

Dryness can cause problems. If there isn't enough lubrication, the walls of the v****a can catch/stick on the tampon and be pulled in with it. That can give a bad pinching feeling.

Also, most girls using tampons for the first time haven't had sex. Their vaginas may be very unstretched (not to mention very unused to the feeling of something going in).

And, as others have mentioned it, there's the possibility that they aren't using them correctly.

And remember, penises and babies can hurt a heck of a lot too.

1) They're tense
2) They aren't inserting them correctly and getting them positioned where they should
3) They're tense

for me it's really strange because the first time i used one it didn't hurt and now when i use one it hurts to put in, but i am guessing it is because some girls get tence and they tighten so that hurts when you are trying to put one in.

Also babies come out, and the shape of things is meant to support that. Still, even a p***s can hurt, though presumably your less tense for that than, oh, putting in a tampon when the fire alarm goes off.

Cancer from plastic? Well if you got cancer from plastic we'd all have it wouldn't we. No it can't give you cancer but if you leave them in to long they can cause TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) so yea but they don't cause cancer. And if you're really worried about that use the ones with cardboard applicators.
