(( This is a self-rp with Mauja and Mzuka ))
PostPosted: Fri Jun 25, 2010 5:33 pm

Trailing his tail through the grass, Mauja flicked his orange eyes around. He had decided to stick around for awhile, give some attention to his beloved, and watch his most recent litter grow up a little. He was noticing things that he had never noticed before in his first litters. They were so close together, but he had gone off just after their birth to have a little fun. Back then, he wasn’t father material.

But now, it was a different story. Sure, he still loved going out to have some fun with the non-crazy girls, but at the end of the day, he knew that’s exactly what he wanted, what he fell in love with. Deep inside, he knew that this habit wouldn’t last forever, and he also knew that Nafsi probably saw that. He was just a little…rebellious. And he wouldn’t listen to anyone but himself. And maybe his sister.

Sighing, heshook his body, knocking loose dirt particles that had clung to him while he had been lounging. There wasn’t much to do, being a stay-at-home father. Glancing around, he saw one of his true-love children- little Mzuka. She was different than the rest of her litter, along with her only brother from that litter, Chozi. Mauja could smell it on them, and now that they had reached adolescence, it had become apparent.

“Mzuka, darling!” Slinking up to her, he looked deep into her eyes, pale as the sky. He was positive she was his, but those eyes, they were striking, but not his at all. Not her mother’s, either.

Flexing her toes on the ground, Mzuka felt the soft, cold dirt squeeze between her toes. She stared at them intently, having nothing better to do. She didn’t feel like watching the little ones, or playing around, or anything. No, Mzuka wanted to go out and travel a bit, now that she felt she was old enough. Life here seemed to move too slowly for her, and as she saw her older siblings grow up and leave, she felt that now it was her turn.

She felt a slight loneliness here at home, not having anyone special to run away with somewhere. That was another driving factor behind her intense anxiety. The younger ones were too little to understand, but Mzuka felt the need to get far away from this place and start something truly hers.

She had heard her father mention various places where he had cubs. Some of them sounded quite dull, but one he had always spoken fondly of was a pride called the Arba’Sehemu. He said he had pure cheetah cubs there, with a girl that looked like the open sky. He always told them stories of the different creatures at all these places, and he had always mentioned some cubs that were large, like leopards, but nimble as cheetahs. It fascinated her, and she really wanted to press him on the issue.

Flicking her eyes up, she heard her father call to her. Perfect timing. Now, for sure, she’d get something out of him. “Father.” Smiling, she moving her ears back, rubbing her head against his neck affectionately. “What are you doing today, silly man?” She had to admit, she’d always wanted him to be around as a cub, but now he just looked bored out of his mind lounging around.

“I’m just…wandering. Quite aimlessly, it seems.” Turning his head to the side, he looked positively frustrated. Which he was. There was nothing glamorous about home life, and there certainly weren’t any giant objects from which he would gladly hurl himself from. How dull.

“But you looked so focused! What were thinking about, hm?” He tilted his head to the side, a big grin on his face. He didn’t really expect to be able to help her with anything, because she was young and a girl, but he’d at least make an attempt. It could’ve been important, or something….horrible. He had no idea. For Mauja, life as a simple thing, filled with cheap thrills and a wonderful home to come back to at the end of the day.

“I’m just….thinking about things.” She tried to dodge the question until she had her thoughts gathered. Mzuka was never very good at thinking-on-the-go. It always made her sound stupid and slow at the same time. Not a good idea, here, especially since her father was really quick-witted.

“Well, actually.” Looking directly at him, she was determined. Her eyes were wide with excitement, desperately wanting information of a far-off land. “I was wondering, could you tell me about the pride that I have siblings in? I was just thinking that….well…” Gulping, she left it there. Her eyes searched for something invisible on the ground, but found nothing. “My, um…half siblings in the A-arba.” Remembering that he father had cubs all over, she thought she’d specify a bit. And get to the point a bit sooner.

“Ooooh. Why do you want to know about something so far away?” Raising a brow, Mauja was more than a bit suspicious of her intentions. None of his cubs had ever asked him about a specific place, especially not this close to adulthood. He didn’t really want to think about her leaving, but he knew the day would come, as it had for his first litter of cubs.

“It’s a very…mystical place, I guess you could say.” His eyes looked far-off as he thought back to his time there. “They have all sorts of species there, it’s quite remarkable. And everyone was divided into different groups based on their pelt. I had heard rumors of a god living there as well, but no one had ever seen him.” Looking back at Mzuka, he grinned. “I guess it gave the place a more wondrous air about it.” He swept his tail around, running it up Mzuka’s front leg, letting it rest gently underneath her chin. “Are you planning on going there, darling?” He eyed her, looking for an emotion or reaction in her face. Sure, he’d feel a bit better if she went somewhere where he had good connections, but still…

"I was just a bit...curious." Averting her eyes, she knew her ruse wouldn't last very long. He probably already saw right through her. After seducing so many females, Mzuka was certain her father could see past any expression and any quirk. And goodness knows that Mzuka was a horrible liar.

"I was just thinking that maybe I should at least be familiar with other lands...you know, for when I...decide to leave..." Starting out strong, the last few words in her sentence were a mumbled mess as she tried to hide them from her father. She wasn't sure at this point whether he'd be strict or not caring in her plight to go out and start her own life.

"I somehow don't believe you." Laughing, he plopped himself on the ground, curling his tail around his body. "Unfortunately, you didn't inherit my keen ability to lie." He had to admit, he was quite amused. Though he wouldn't dare mention her, Mauja was reminded of his little sister. She was childish, in the good sense of the word, but was pretty horrible about lies. For instance, she was quite oblivious to the womanizing ways that his grandfather had taught him.

"Well, if you're just that curious, I'd say it's a very safe pride. I think it'd be good for someone who's just starting out in the world." Looking off, he tried not to think about her leaving, but he knew by this point it was just a matter of days. As a cub, too, Mzuka had always held things inside until she was just about to do them.

So he did see straight through her. But, being the kind father that he was, she knew he wouldn't fully admit it. But she was curious about one thing: both of her parents were fairly decent liars at least, so was he referring to some unknown family? Mzuka eyed him anxiously, but he wouldn't reveal unless he wanted to.

"Is it? I guess you wouldn't leave any cubs of yours in a pride that wasn't safe." She giggled, glad that she had such a secretly protective father. "It sounds wonderful." Twirling, she thought about leaving and being somewhere else. "They wouldn't know me, would they? My half-siblings?" She thought about how nice that would be, to be totally unknown, but she'd have to make sure not to accidentally fall for one of her half-brothers she knew she had.

"Yeah, even though I might be a bit of a player, I still love every one of my cubs." Leaning over, he licked Mzuka on the forehead. He had started to feel old recently, though he'd never admit it out loud.

"No, your siblings wouldn't know you. Hell, I'd probably barely recognize them. You'll know by scent, though, darling. Just keep focused." He glanced to the ground. The last time he saw any of those cubs, they were just wriggling little lumps of fur playing. "Wouldn't want you to think your brother was a cutie!" Winking at her, he laughed. There were plenty other males in that pride for her, but he just couldn't imagine his little girl with any of them.

"Oh...." her voice trailed off a little. Something in his words just seemed.....cold. But she knew her father too well to take it very seriously. She was there with her, and her siblings, so she wasn't really going to concern herself with his feelings toward her other half-siblings.

"Well, I guess....I should be going." Washing her tail over the thin layer of dirt, Mzuka stretched out a little. This conversation had definitely reached its end; she could sense that her father wasn't fond of talking about her leaving, but at least she told him, right? Her mother would be another story, but they would both come to accept it with time. And besides, she would be in a safe place where her father had connections, after all. Now she just needed to start her new adventure.

"Alright then, love." Giving her one last nuzzle, Mauja turned his back to her, staring up at the sky. He'd been through this cycle so many times, but this time it seemed....different. It was probably because Mzuka was Nafsi's daughter, so she was extra-special to him. And she seemed to have inherited his unyielding spirit, something that made him very proud.

Thinking about it, he couldn't have picked a better place for her to go. In a pride, she'd be safer than out here, in the open lands, especially since he wasn't always around to protect her. It was hard, letting her grow up, but it's what every creature does, and he wouldn't dare get in the way of nature- no matter how many times he himself has tried to defy it.
