The air was still as the two wolves circled.
Their reasons were their own, but their goals were the same: Alpha. In the face of the Darkness, the rag-tag group of wolves would need a leader. Through their experience, ambition ans perhaps even foolhardiness, both wolves know they would be an excellent leader.
The sun glistened off the tan granite cliffs, the whole landscape seemed tilted, the sun near the horizon as both wolves dug their claws into the loose rocky foundation to keep their footing on the 45 degree incline. This was where they had chosen to fight, away from the bulk of the group, on the very side of the mountain which juts from the belly of the valley, dwarfed further by the ominous overhanging plateau to the north and south.
You may begin without prompting at the starting time, for now feel free to taunt, but no fighting. Please take turns attacking. Judging area:Eslen's Verdict: Rouqie 1 While you both were amazing and this fight intense to read, I feel that Rouqie accepted being beaten very well and had well thought out posts. Breaking's Verdict: Rouqie 1 Even in loosing it displays the alpha's true nature to accept the loss of battles and not to fight needlessly. Candie's Verdict: Rouqie 1 -She brought more purpose to the fight, in way that were well thought. How she acted in defeat was of a high standard, in which a leader would need to have.
Straye's Verdict: Rouqie 1 ~Great imagery and well thought out posts, very thorough read and graceful acceptance was impressive.~ Victor: Andragos 3 points.
Final points: 4 points for Rouqie, 3 points for Andragos Winner is Rouqie!

Rouqie padded softly up the incline, towards the designated meeting spot. The barren landscape was intimidating, the safety of the trees growing smaller and smaller behind her, the sharp disc of the sun cast everything here in sharp shadows, realms of light and dark.
As a gust scraped across the cliffs, the scent of another wolf reached Rouqie, the scent of challenge and anticipation.
Silence reigned as Rouqie locked eyes with her challenger, Andragos. His bulky form and shining symbols and eyes matched the surroundings, separate realms of light and shadow.
Silence reigned...

HP 20 Golden eyes watched Roquie as she came up. Andragos had already been waiting there for her, ready to meet her challenge for Alpha of the pack down in the forest. She was not as bulky like him but she was elegant and surefooted.
All around it was as if nature knew to be silent for the match as if in anticipation for what was to come. Andragos was ready to fight, even if it was against his old pack mate.
He was ready...

"Andragos." She addressed him confidently but not insultingly so. She steadily padded towards him, heading slowly for the high-ground, her eyes soft and captivating.
"I've been wondering. Why did you leave us? Was it to try and help fight? If you did not have the resolve to stay, why should you be our Alpha?" She kept speaking as her eyes narrowed and she padded ever closer, she made a conscious effort to keep her fur from bristling.
Soon she was standing directly uphill of him, her form smooth and muscles coiled.
"I stayed to protect the pups, despite my wish to join the packs. two months I waited, where were you?!" The last sentence she snarled and slashed out at his face.

HP 20 He had been watching her, feeling the angry burn through her as she snarled the words at her. How to make her understand that it wasn't his choice? How to make her see? He moved counter to how she moved, a dance as some would call it.
"Roquie." Then sound a muted growl in his throat. "I did not leave of my own wills. If I could have fought I would have gone with the rest of the pack to fight the Darkness!" Trying to make her understand. "I have the resolve to be an Alpha, the resolve to bring everyone together to work out how to get us by, to live, and to fight the coming threat."
As she descended and the rage he dodged her, higher ground has the best point of attack huh? Well it didn't go so great for her, "Strengthening myself up!" He growled as he lept jaws wide for the scruff of her neck to bring her to the ground.

HP 16
Andragos had lunged suddenly and pinned her to the ground. Her legs feebly scraped at his belly, he was so much bigger than her, for a moment she felt as though she could not win, but remembering the pain she'd felt, realizing, after so long waiting, that the packs would not return, ever..
Raged welled within her. She locked eyes with him and snarled: "Regardless of reasons, a true alpha would never turn his back on his family. This is what I fight to protect. A family!" She snapped at his face, eyes wild and welling with tears.

HP 20 Andragos snarled at her, he made himself seem more menacing. Forget trying to hold back. She would not listen to his words and this was a fight, he had to think of it as a fight. "If I could have found the what was left of the pack I would have come back, I would have stepped up. But I found no one, I looked. I tried, but no one responded. Don't you dare look down on me Roquie..."
He could see her tears but it would not give in and help her. When this was over, maybe. Once again he side stepped her, being careful not to slip on the slope itself. He dug his claws in and lept, he would first knock her down then pin her and dig his teeth into her neck again, and if he could throw her.

HP 12
His claws cut through her right flank, her tears had blurred her vision, she shook her head to clear them, limping up towards the high-ground. It was her best hope.
Andragos' eyes seemed full of fury, she hoped she could get him to feel just a little of the sadness she felt, but he was unreadable like this. She lunged head first at him, remembering the rage she'd felt saving Icarus from the stag. This was not different, she thought. Her challenge, however, was not as easy this time. She would fight till she could no longer!

HP 16 Giving a howl in pain he turned toward her and snapped a growl in her direction. He remembered in the woods when he had woken up that morning in his adolescence. He had called for his mother, for his father, he had howled to the skies for hours before he got no reply. No reply from them or any other wolf in the forest. He hadn't remembered the way from his pack to where he had gone and his feet had carried him away. Andragos had to take the skills he had learned from his parents, both warriors to Haven, and put them to use to kill to survive. The stag he had felled had broken his ribs, he knew that the hooves were something a wolf shouldn't get caught up under but he had been starving. Then again the bear that tried to attack him. That was terrifying but somehow he had stood through that and made the massive thing flee.
As she came down on him and bit into him Andragos remembered the here and now, his paw coming around to smack her as he snapped his jaws at her face this time. Even as he did this he swished his tail up, trying to kick up any dirt as well.

HP 12
Rouqie was focussed now, as a leader should be. She turned on a dime, rolling out of the way as he lunged past her. From the side she was bombarded with a spray of dirt and pebbles, but she paid them no mind as she turned her head away.
The feeling stirred up a memory within her, of dashing through the forests with the other haven hunters. Gleeful masters of the forest, kicking up plumes of dust in their wake which drifted through the half-light below the canopies, peaceful. Serene. She filled her lungs to give her next move strength. She remembered A'cuil's amazing leap and attempted to copy it. She did not go as high, but she wasn't aiming for height.
She positioned her form against the sun as she bared her fangs at Andragos, snarling as she aimed to pin him down, to make him see the determination in her eyes up close.

HP 10 Andragos yelped as he felt her fangs rip open the flesh under his fur and felt the wind knocked out of him as she fell upon him, pushing him against the rubble beneath his body. His paws tried to find substantial ground to grip but found none so he tried rolling, legs kicking out from under him to kick her off of his body as he lashed out with his maw, snapping at her so she'd let go.
This was not how he wanted the fight to go. With all he rage he gave a snarl and kicked up hard, trying to fling her off of him and yet going for the underside of her neck, the soft fleshy bit were all of the blood resided. It wasn't for a killing blow no of course not, he wouldn't do that to Roquie even in his anger, but he wasn't going to be kind either.

He snapped at Rouqie's muzzle from under her, but she was in her hunting mindset. Her reflexes swung her neck to the side and she took the oppertunity to get her paw onto the side of his face, temporarily imobilizing the writhing Andragos.
"Look." She barked, trying to mask her heavy panting. "I respect you, Andragos. Your mother and father were great wolves, I don't know what happened to them, I wish I did, but I don't." Her golden eye bored into his, she pushed down a little harder with her paw before continuing. "But you do not know what it is like to hunt as a pack as I do. You know only how to survive alone. If you do not surrender, I will fight until I've made myself clear."
She quickly maneuvered herself into a position where she could grasp his muzzle and keep him on the ground until he would see reason. She struck with the weight of her responsibility pushing her forward.

HP 6 He continued to flail before letting himself settle. Maybe if she believed he was giving up she would let up so he could speak. The Darkness wouldn't give up and neither would be, when he got a chance to speak he did so. "I worked together with the pack, hunting with the rest of them. Fending off others from our lands. I worked to protect our pack from threats. But they did not want that for me when they left, they knew it was their death. I could see it in their eyes. So they took me against my will when I stood to go and fight with the others. Then they abandoned me." He was heavily panting but he was not finished. Not in the slightest.
So he threw his weight and rolled out from under her, growling. He had to show her that he wouldn't back down, that he'd go on and protect his family, his pack. That he could fight the Darkness and maybe, just maybe find the other packs.
Digging his claws in he tore for the higher ground before spinning around and leaping at her, his paws out to slam her into the ground. As he flew through the air a growling snarl ripped through it as well, his battle cry.

HP 12
Rouqie side-stepped Andragos' lunge, he was getting sloppy, but it could all be a ploy to get her to let her guard down.
She circled again, "My mother died giving my sister and I warmth." Pain cramped her heart as she thought of her sister who'd been part of the envoy to the North."She taught me the meaning of the word bravery. Taught me to believe in something larger than myself." The wind flared up suddenly as if to give her words emphasis.
"My mother taught me the value of believing in your own strength, not hiding from destiny."
She continued to circle Andragos, her adrenaline pumping so hard she barely felt the burn of her torn flank. Crimson droplets of blood leaked from the wound and down her right forpaw.
With a roar she swatted the bloody paw at his face, attempting to further damage and blind the brute.
