It wasn't that Jack had been purposely avoiding the headquarters as much as he had been avoiding moving. Because his limbs ached and it was so much easier to just find somewhere cool and dark to rest and lick his wounds. But licking his wounds wasn't doing anything anymore and it was really pretty bloody gross. Needed to shower. He was falling apart, more literally than figuratively. Thankfully there was this modern marvel called a t-shirt that he had wrapped around his forearm and his hair had grown long and matted enough that it covered the eye he hadn't stopped rubbing.
There hadn't been that many addresses in the registrar. And he unfortunately recognized most of the names and had zero intention of seeing if he'd stuck in any of their memories, but one of them had stood out as unfamiliar. So that was where Jack went with nothing on him but what he was wearing. Because his stomach hurt from not eating and he was sure the headquarters was still abandoned. Was unaware of how many days since they had gotten rid of the star lady but it hadn't changed the state of the building, hadn't changed anything.
Jack wasn't the best with addresses but he managed to find the building before nightfall. Had no real idea what to expect, if the fa'e inside would be hospitable. Or if they would be suspicious and not even open the door. And with all that had happened, with how he looked like death warmed over, he wouldn't really blame them. Not with blood dried on his shirt and his pants frayed. Not when his covered eye was dark and clouded, not when there was brown and red seeping through the fabric wrapped around his forearm and hand. But he was a fa'e, right? They both were. So he banged his good hands knuckles against the door.

Dawna rolled her neck over the arm of the couch. She had been enjoying the last golden rays of the sunset as they filtered through the tall glass windows of the main foyer, but an unexpected visitor and an unfortunate lack of hired help spoiled the moment. The last amber glimmer had already been swallowed by the mountains by the time she righted her pose. She grimaced, swinging her long legs off the cushions and wrapping the collar of her robe a little tighter around her neck. She would have looked perfect lying as she had been when the last light of day struck her skin.
Not that anyone would have been walking through the house to see it...
"Coming!" She shouted, squeezing one eye tightly closed in annoyance as the banging continued. The heavy wood doors swung open with surprising ease when a diva whose light had been stolen grasped the handle. She popped her hip, put on her best glare and put out pout, and faced the--
Well. It was hard to keep up the finely crafted facade when faced with such a wreck of a human form. First there was the shock of seeing the battered body, then the slight twinge of fear at the reminder of her own mortality, and finally the revulsion that crept in on the first breeze that carried his stench past the threshold.

The commotion drew attention from across the house. A new light, softer than the sunset, caught Dawna's angles all along the right side. The pinks and golds from the shards of the Tzohar preceded Shai as he made his way to the door. "A guest."
He stayed well behind the lovely peacock Fa'e, tilting a bit to gaze around her. Unbound pale hair framed Shai's serene face. "Should I draw a bath?" It didn't seem to occur to him that he'd skipped over the niceties like introductions. Perhaps he'd simply gotten used to pampering Dawna, now that they shared the Villa. Taking a step back, making room for the tattered man to enter, Shai smiled. It was good to see a new face, even if it was a bloody one!

Light did nothing to flatter the crumbling Fa'e's features. Mouth opened to address the woman because he knew this wasn't going to be easy, despite appearances the man standing on the stoop wasn't an idiot. Probably not. Fingers from his good hand dragged up to scratch at the side of his stubbled jaw and then-
Something else caught his marmalade eye and his attention turned to Shai only for a moment, enough to speak in a voice that wasn't at all decrepit and instead rather smooth. Rolled off of his tongue as easily as breathing. "That- That would be actually great, gu- gi- Thanks." Flashed a surprisingly charming smile that didn't seem to suit the rest of his construct. Jack moved into the space that Shai exited like it was natural, and in the same motion he extended his hand to Dawna with the sort of- It wasn't grace, not exactly. It was the grace of a drunkard who pretended to know what he was doing, stumbling through the familiar motions.
The hand he offered wasn't clean, dirt under his nails, something maybe a little bit like blood. "Names Jack- One of you is Shai, yeah? Thanks for your hospitality, needed somewhere to go." Gaze stayed on the girl with lovely green skin.

Dawna's gilded lips opened to form some protest, but given how the man was already inside and Shai was already set on providing for him, they closed into a cordial smile. "If you are looking for Aki Ana, she's not here." While most of Wasa's young wards had gone quite feral in the past year, claiming bits of the compound as their own and appearing from time to time to raid the stores of food and her own purse, Dawna knew some of Aki's charges had been cut loose to fend for themselves. This man certainly had the look of a desperate prodigal, seeking out his last resort in the arms of the only 'mother' he had ever known.
She looked at the offered hand, then to Shai, silently hoping his zeal for courtesy would save her from the awkward moment.

At the mention of his name, Shai inclined his head with a single nod. He seemed content to let the pair of Fa'e speak, hanging back with a discretion that was remarkable, considering he was the primary source of illumination in the foyer. Dawna's comment was just enough to lift his snowy brows. Was he one of Aki's charges, then? Shai certainly didn't recognize the injured young man, but that meant little. His guardian was a source of constant surprise.
The look Dawna cast his way, however, he knew all too well. She'd given him the exact same look the last time Arun had left a mess down the dining room wall. Eyes smiling at the memory, he stepped past Dawna and settled a hand gently on the stranger's extended arm. "It's our pleasure," he demurred, speaking absently for the both of them. His warm accent was almost imperceptible, thanks to his lessons. "If you will follow?"
Though Shai's expression never changed, the harmonic hum of the shards altered the moment the two Fa'e touched. A dissonant resonance stirred the Tzohar, gentler than a sleeping child's breath. With another tilt of his head, he escorted Jack into the Villa and the heavy door swung shut.
Though the Villa was by nature spacious, the bath chamber seemed to take up far more room than an average bathroom should. Huge potted plants that would have been more at home in an arboretum crowded the polished walls, almost obscuring the hand blown glass fixtures and the shockingly white clawfoot tub. Shai twisted the brass workings to the perfect temperature with practiced expertise, not even bothering to test the rushing water with a fingertip. He straightened with a smile, twisting to see if Jack had followed him in.
"There is a robe," He motioned also to a pair of empty wine glasses on a brass tray, next to a pitcher sweating with cold. "...and water, if you like. To speak with all can wait, yes?"
The shards clashed faintly as he turned to face the newcomer. Shai seemed to ignore them entirely. "If there is anything else?"

Maybe Jack should have been afraid or at least cautious. These two had never shown up to the headquarters or come to help. No discernible reason to trust them, to walk in and follow Shai. Because he was going to say something to Dawna, was going to reply that no, he wasn't here for Aki Ana. Was going to explain that he was a fa'e but really- The offer of a bath was far more appealing than saying things he didn't need to, so instead Jack nodded and smiled as pleasantly as someone who looked like a drowned rat could smile and followed behind him.
Gaze drifted as they walked and he didn't seem to be paying much attention to the other Fa'e, who he had decided was probably Shai, as his voice was well, he didn't look much like a Dawna. Decision made. Tongue scraped against the roof of his mouth and he clucked his tongue against it when he saw the bath chamber. Let Shai run the bath without a protest like it wasn't that unusual at all to have a bloody bath drawn for you and he went for the water as soon as he spotted it. Poured himself a glass even though he wished it was wine instead.
"No, I should be good here-" Eye dragged over Shai, no, yeah. He wasn't going to have an extra set of clothes that Jack could borrow instead of a robe. So the ragged excuse for a Fa'e rolled his shoulders and turned his back to his gracious host, offering a, "Thanks." as he set down the glass and tugged his shirt over his head. Stuck to the grey patches of unhealthy skin, flesh that looked like not even warm water could remedy, dropped the cloth to the floor. Jack seemed content to ignore the world and his wounds and just soak regardless of his surroundings or company.

A subtle frown shortened Dawna's lips as she watched their guest sink into the water with no further explanation of who he was or what he was after. 'Jack' may have been a common name in movies or novels, but in the real world of Gaia it rang no bells for her. But she wasn't about to embarrass Shai by insisting on answers here and now. His blush was best savored in more private moments.
"I'll... put these in a bag for you." She hooked a manicured nail under the filth soaked collar of his shirt and raked her eyes over his diseased skin. Again, not exactly abnormal in her world, but not something to be dismissed entirely either. "There's some bandages and ointment in the cabinet by the sink, and I think you have some clothes you wouldn't mind parting with, don't you, Shai?" It was a pity too. She was hoping that if she held off long enough on buying new laundry soap, Shai would be forced to wear jeans and a fitted shirt eventually.

"Of course," Shai agreed, held the door open for Dawna to exit. He offered one last smile to the soaking Fa'e. "I'll bring them in soon." The door snicked shut quietly after them, leaving Jack in peace. He waited until they'd reached the kitchen to ask Dawna what was on his mind.
"Do you think he is a zombie?" The question was asked with utmost sincerity as Shai filled a kettle and placed it on the stove to heat. They'd watched a whole marathon of horror movies on HBO no more than a week ago, and the scenes were still fresh in the young Fa'e's head. "I didn't purchase any brains at the market." Bright, serious eyes peered up at Dawna as he pondered the possibility.

"Hmm." Dawna made a show of considering for Shai's benefit as she whipped open a trash bag and dropped the reeking shirt inside. She liked that Shai still regarded her as an authority on the world around them. It was worth a few moments of her time each day to nurture, even if it meant improvising explanations of why some vampires sparkled in the sunlight while others exploded when staked.
"I don't think so. A dead person would become waterlogged, taking a bath like that... probably would leave more of themselves behind than they care to, too." She opened the kitchen door and set the bag where the wind could carry some of the stench away.

Didn't bother to refuse Shai's clothing even though he really really wanted to, the warm water felt amazing soaking through his tired bones and he couldn't be bothered to speak. Short ragged nails scraped against his arm once he was alone. Had done a pretty good job at keeping it turned away from them because- Well. There was bone showing. Jack frowned down at the limb, letting it settle beneath the water. Didn't want to think about it. Wasn't going to rub at the eye he could no longer see through, no matter how much it itched and tingled way back in the socket. Washed his limbs futilely in soap but was careful not to scrub hard enough to break the skin because he liked it better where it was.
Once he was sure he didn't smell like death warmed over (And really, after the soap he smelled perfectly human) the fa'e dripped out of the tub all the way to the towels and hardly dried himself off. Was pleased by the ability to drag his fingers through his hair now but just shoved it down in front of the eye. Bandages around his arm, twisted them between his fingers because jesus ******** christ it was creeping along his flesh, through the sinew of his tendons, snaking through the thin bones of his hand. And he needed those.
But really, who was a green skinned bird lady and a- whatever Shai was to judge him for missing a little bit of flesh? Stretched out his hand to check out the wrap job he'd done on it while he tied the bathrobe together, and yeah, it was a pretty good mummy impersonation.

By the time Shai rapped politely on the door, he was carrying a bundle of neatly folded clothes and a plastic comb. "These are for your liking." He said, and edged into the bathroom to settle them on the counter. The stranger seemed to be finishing with his bath, which was perfect timing. Giving the jeans and t-shirt a pat, he wondered absently why Dawna had looked so put out when he selected them. They'd sat unworn in his dresser for months!
"Tea, in the kitchen, when you are ready."
The kitchen was much cozier than the bathroom, and fragrant with the odd herbs and fruits that Wasa kept on hand. A small table crowded the breakfast nook along the eastern windows, already set with three saucers and three steaming cups of tea. Without being asked, he added a lump of sugar and a dash of cream to Dawna's, pushing it her way with a smile.
"He's almost finished." Shai offered quietly, and warmed his hands around his own cup. "Not a zombie."

Shai's pants only hit his ankles but he wasn't that upset about it, was sort of nice to have clean clothes, and the shirt fit alright. It didn't matter whether or not Jack meant to overhear Shai, but he did. Didn't take him long to throw on the clothes and he pulled the housecoat on over top because he got cold too damned easily.
"You got anythin' that will warm a mans bones better than tea?" Jack chewed on the tip of his thumb as he walked in, feet thunking heavily on the ground and with the sort of strut that belonged to someone that belonged. Addressed Shai rather than Dawna because, well, Shai seemed to be pretty good at getting things. And that tea smelled good, but would smell better spiked.
"Not a zombie, by the way. Unless you count reincarnated dead guys as zombies." Stood rather than sat but didn't seem at all awkward about it, wasn't hovering, was just standing, stretching out a kink in his spine subtly at his teeth clacked at a newly clean fingernail.

"Tea first" Dawna interjected before Shai could even look towards the liquor cabinet. She set the simple sandwich she had put together on the edge of the table nearest the standing man. "And if every man, woman, and child who was reborn was a zombie, 'undead' would have to mean those who have never died."

When it became obvious he wasn't going to sit, Shai held the sugar bowl up, waiting to see if the stranger was interested. "Tea first," the young Fa'e echoed, but it sounded more like an offer than Dawna's command. "And introducings! I am Shai Adi, and this is Dawna." His eyes squinched happily for a moment over his smile as he nodded toward the peacock Fa'e.
"What is your name? And why are you hurt, if it can be asked?"
