Does anyone play with flat woven strings?
Do they alter the tone significantly?

I use em on my fretless.
I know this sounds stupid, but it makes the tone a little more flat.
Personally I love them, they slide well and give a good deeper sound.
When playing in between the frets they make it eaiser to pick out harmonics and quarter notes created between the frets.
I need new ones though, mine died and I've already boilded them once.

I use them on my fretless warwick. They sound fine slapped. In fact check out Jaco Pastorious if you want to hear a slapped fretless. Just make sure not to use roundwound strings on a fretless as they will tear apart the fretboard.

The ones I played with are very very smooth sounding, they sound quite a bit like an upright bass. I had it on my squier precision for a while (was confused, I thought I had bought the roundwounds XP) and they do sound really plesant, and slapped they sound fine. Oh yeah, I used Fender stainless steel flat-wound

ya i used to play with flatwounds, they were ok, not to much of a difference. but i know have elixers and they're treating me pretty good. the one thing i really didnt like about flats is that it gets rid of your calis (or however you spell that)

I have a fretless bass and i use flatwound strings on it. Both the sound and the feel are definately different.

They put a whole new top on it, and repainted it.
