Geography

The structure of the humans' planet is similar to ours, but with major differences. What would be Asia, Europe, and Africa here are all joined together in Tarallus, making one large landmass. Africa and Asia are much smaller, and Europe is larger. Our Asia is called Otalin in Tarallus. Africa is Afrikaanis, and the most developed region, called Europe by our world, is Eurlak in this one. The Arctic is one medium-sized landmass, with many islands surrounding it; this is called Svalbard. Australia and Antarctica do not exist, a large ocean in their places. The bottom of the world, where Antarctica would be, is a great ice sheet, as if it and the Arctic were flipped. What we would identify as the Americas are smaller than our world’s, and misshapen. Here they are North Kavata and South Kavata: the New World. The Pacific and Atlantic Oceans are not known by such names; here it is all one giant body of water, the Tiralic Ocean. Sections are referred to by their proximity to land masses, such as east of Otalin, or west of Eurlak. The Baltic Sea is called the Valkan Sea; the Mediterranean called the Sea of Aldera. The ocean around Svalbard is one of the few areas of the main ocean that have their own name; this is the Northern Ocean.

Many rivers are similar to ours, especially in Afrikaanis and Kavata. Africa’s Nile River is here, though slightly different in length and path. The Amazon Basin is also present, though more a combination of many rivers than one long, tributary-rich one. North America’s Mississippi is also here, but not yet completely discovered. A river splits what would be Norway and Sweden in two. Another goes through Eurlak’s southwestern peninsula. Otherwise, many rivers are different than here. Mountain ranges are very similar. The equivalent of Russia has a large one. The Himalayas are not present. The Atlas Mountains are in northern Afrikaanis, and a good-sized range is in the northern section of main Eurlak. Kavata has both the Andes and Rockies, as well. As for weather, the world is incredibly similar to ours, nearly the same. Some sections may be slightly colder or warmer than others, but on the whole it is equal to us.

So far, not much is known of the rest of the realm in relation to astronomy, and anything that was known before was destroyed in the Panic. There are stars, including a Sun. One other planet has been seen occasionally, but there is so far no name. Overall, very little is known of the solar system, and so major developments are just waiting to occur.

Flora and Fauna

The realm of Tarallus has largely the same kinds of plants and animals as our realm; otherwise, there would be no animals to turn into! All the creatures alive today exist, most in healthy numbers. Some, such as the thylacine, are alive and well, though have much smaller numbers than other species. Many animals that became extinct in our 14th to 21Like ours, this realm has no mythical beings like dragons and gryphons; at least, not physically. The people of the world so strongly believe they exist that it is even possible for one's Daemon to take the True Form of one of these creatures. However, it calls for an extremely unique and incredible human to receive such a Daemon. Only two have been heard of: the first died over a hundred years ago, and the second's human has disappeared. None have been seen since.

As for plants, all of the ones we have today exist. There are a few new species, such as a type of tree with incredibly hard wood, often used in the place of metal. All natural things in this world have Magika within them, almost like an energy binding the world together.

Magika

All natural things in this world have a special kind of energy within them: Magika. Some believe this is what keeps things alive; others that it is what links the world together. What is known is that it is incredibly powerful; it creates Daemons, after all. It was discovered by Professor Jaradin, the man who named Daemons, that this Magika can be taken and harnessed to power things. However, as of yet it is not known how this is possible. Many advancements have been made in the field of Magika, but man is still a good ways away from truly understanding and using it. Another man, having nearly as much importance as Professor Jaradin himself, has made the most advancements of anyone in the field: Duncan Haylen. The Head Master and Magika Teacher of Jaradin College, he is the only known man ever to have an Inner Manifestation, and so is known the world over.

Customs

Here, time is measured the same as in our world: in minutes and hours, weeks and years. The globe is slightly smaller, but turns slightly slower, so the amount of time a day, month, and year passes is exactly the same. It is currently the year 1913 Common Era (C.E.), and 293 After Panic (A.P.). Most use the latter method of speaking of the year; really only scholars and scientists use C.E. years.

Languages are essentially the same as in our realm. The names may be somewhat different, but in general, foreign languages take their own name no matter what, save English. English is Britannic in this world; French is Français, Spanish is Español, German is Deutsch, and so on.
