So, I'm kind of tired of thinking I have enough for the next item for my dream avi, and then finding it has jumped in price to just beyond my reach... gonk ....

I think the MP is getting out of hand, and since it is us the users who control the MP, I think it is time to get it under control.

I am proposing a boycott.

If anyone else here is feeling my pain, please drop by the thread, and show your support. Spread the word, and hopefully by the end of July, we will be able to afford the things we want.

It's really sad when you spend two weeks collecting gold from commissions and Bootie Grabs and then you can't spend the gold on anything because the good stuff is all too expensive!!!

Yeah, I keep running into the problem of things inflating at just the right pace for me to never be able to afford what I want.

We are getting a guild going, hopefully it will help us gather some support...

INFLATION TERMINATION

... come and check it out. My sig links to our thread in the main forum.

What about prices going down? That happens just as much. I don't want that to stop happening. Sorry, I just don't agree with you but good luck anyways.

I would participate in this endeavor, but after discussing it with my brother we came to the sad conclusion that it is doomed for failure.

The only way to make marketplace prices controllable is to control what decides the prices. That is Supply and Demand. We would have to keep the demand low when the supply is low or keep the supply high to meet the high demand. Unfortunately, we do not have that power. Spending two weeks of inactivity in the marketplace may lower the prices for a little while since we lower the apparent demand, but that hope could easily be demolished by the number of people who will, no doubt, try to take advantage of the apparently lowering demand.

That is to say that while we make it seem the demand is lower, the prices will lower, and those who want the items will likely get them while we are on strike. This means the price will go up, just as it would anyway, and the people on strike will be out of luck.

It is not impossible to control the marketplace, but you would need more than half the active members of the site(25,000-50,000 people) participating and I do not see that happening. If it were to seem to happen, I would not doubt that several members are only "participating" to help the prices lower and they would be browsing the marketplace daily to get the good deals as soon as the prices dropped. If they did not, the other half would.

I think that our mission is more along the lines of letting the Powers-That-Be know that we are very displeased with the state of the MP. Ever since Booty-grab was released, inflation has skyrocketed, and unless you're willing to spend an hour a night catching gold coins in the Aquarium forums or spend non-refundable real money in the Cash shop--which is a whole other can of worms we won't open yet--you cannot compete in the market.

The "free offers" to receive Gaia cash are not actually free, and honestly I'm uncomfortable with where the information ends up. In an era where identity theft is rampant, Gaia seems willing to sell our info up the creek and hope that all the buyers comply to their terms. And if they don't...well, oops. Buyer beware.

Plus they're trying to do a "get better Daily-Chance prizes if your friends sign up." It's totally advertising extortion. It doesn't take into account previous friends who've signed up, so it's trying to get you to harass new friends to join Gaia. I thought this was supposed to be a place to meet new friends, not break up with old ones.

It's getting to the point where this is technically not a "free" game anymore. Gaia administration wants you, their long standing and loyal patrons, to give them money, personal information, and that of your friends in exchange for WORTHLESS PIXEL ART!!! Who could possibly blow the whistle? Me? I'm just a starving artist, struggling student, and working mom. I have little to no power. It would be easier for me to leave all my friends here than to fight the Powers-that-be alone.

So we at the Inflation Termination guild want to raise awareness at how the economy works and maybe together we can flex enough muscles to get noticed. Maybe the Daily Chance can get better with seniority or participation. Maybe the Booty-grab can ease up or start distributing tokens or something to bring the raging inflation under control.

The Boycott is not so much about changing the MP in 2 short weeks--that is impossible. It's about making enough of a difference in the Gaia economy to get noticed and heard.

If everyone who said that it's a good idea but is doomed to fail would join, then we couldn't fail. sweatdrop

Scarlet, that was the most beautifully presented, and well though-out summary of our mission that I have heard. heart

We need administrator help, and anytime they see a mob of discontent Gaians, they start working to find some kind of solution. A boycott is not to help us have a temporary reprieve from the out-of-hand inflation, although I believe it would be a nice perk, but it is to get the administrators attention.

The Booty Grab boycott worked to get the attention of the mods to reset the aquariums to how they used to be (for the most part). Too bad that the damage had already been done to the Gaian economy. While the nerfs were going on, inflation gained momentum, and it hasn't lost any since the nerfs stopped.

I am hoping our boycott will grab the attention of the higher ups as well.

We aren't only boycotting, we are researching suggestions for more permanent solutions, and hopefully we will come up with something brilliant enough to petition the administration with.

Thank you. You're welcome to use any part of it if you like. ^_^

And I'm so looking forward to coming up with long term solutions. I really think this is going to be the "Final Straw" effort for me. I love all my friends on Gaia, and I want to stick around, but dressing up my Avi is just no fun anymore. I've got things to do, and better applications of my time than trying to compete in an unfair market. If this doesn't work, I might have to leave. crying

When you word it that way it's entirely different. In that case it is no longer against inflation, it's against the abuse of site members. Nobody who is aware of what's going on should be against that and those who are not aware would be made aware, that is a cause I would join. "Inflation Termination" makes it sound like you are focusing on the marketplace specifically, there you are fighting a losing battle and that is why I would not join.

If it's not to late, I would change the name to something along the lines of "The Anti-Gaian Abuse Organization," something at least giving that impression. In that way you cover what's happening in the marketplace, the cash shop, the "free cash," and, if you must, the Booty Grab game too.

Personally, I would not be supportive of getting rid of Booty Grab, but perhaps giving a nerf of some sort to make it more fair would be useful. On the other hand, the members who are willing to spend time to earn money should get the money they earn.

I absolutely agree that effort should be rewarded. Before Booty-grab, the main way to gain gold was to post in forums and shake trees, and then wait while these tiny amounts of gold added up to something you could work with. It was ANNOYING and it led to even more annoying begging and pandering for gold "donations." After Booty-grab, there is an option to spend time on Gaia and get enough gold to get what you want.

But when you spend 2 12-hour night shifts spent on Booty-Grab to get 200,000 gold and you STILL can't buy anything, you start to suspect that something has to be wrong. stressed

We could call ourselves "S.E.R" --Society for Economic Reform.

S.E.R. works. Now it's just a matter of either forming a new group, converting the previous Inflation Termination group to S.E.R, or both.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

...as the wind whistled past it whispered in your ears...

This is actually the very reason why I'm not all that active on here anymore and why I much prefer to hang out on KofK. That, and the fact that half of the people in the forums are complete asses.
Scarlet, you couldn't have put it in better words... this 'free' game, really is not free. In the last year or so I've seen that this website has become more for claiming our money than for making it enjoyable and rewarding. Where's the challenge..? Where's the satisfaction..? Where's the fun..?
It's so disappointing...

...then the words drifted away, never to be heard again...

Well, the initial thought was to protest the MP and inflation by boycott, but so many valid arguments have come to light that the mission has grown as well. Inflation termination was the name of the initial project, but it has grown so much in 2 days that our name doesn't really cover it sweatdrop

Anyway, I'll put it to the members about changing the name, I don't really see the problem though. If I can't change the name of the guild, then we can just start a new one, for a more long term operation.

Thank you for the suggestions, ad I do hope you will come and check the guild out besides. We need a bit of help.

I'll be keeping an eye on things, but if the name of the guild can't be changed I'd rather wait until the new guild is made before I join. I have enough guilds to sort through as it is.

I have posted a thread to pose the question of name change or an affiliation to the other members.

I will either be changing the name on Monday, or making a long-term Guild of another name.

Either way, I will probably have an affiliate anyway, and we will keep the name of our operation this July as Inflation Termination, and then for every subsequent operation have a different name, kinda like they do with military operations.

If we keep the IT guild as a reserve base, then the members can be called when we put an operation into effect. The members who want to be active beyond just putting their name to our number can join the operative affiliate.
