User Image Time seemed to be passing slowly.

Fortunately, fall turned to winter, winter turned to spring, and spring had returned to summer. The scrawny, near sightless scavenger had a rough winter and, even now, he hadn't put back on all the weight he needed. If he didn't find someplace soon, he may very well not make it through the next winter, though he did not wish to dwell on that thought. It would do little for him to focus on dying, especially if he wished to live.

His ears pricked as a sound above caught his attention.

It was back. Or she, rather.

The spotted nutcracker tilted her head to one side, eyeing the lean, partially blinded creature below.

She crowed over him gleefully, eyes flashing, though he could not see her. Her raucous behavior alerted him to something further ahead, a kill, though not fresh.

His sensitive ears swiveled, picking up her direction as she flew southeast. She went rather noisily, so he could follow.
