Another lonely night was over and gone. As the darkness began it's retreat, Nykto took comfort in the pale light that spread over the clearing he was in. In truth, he loved sunrises, as well as sunsets. It was at these times when the sun's rays were at their weakest.

Light was already quickly spreading through the land as the sun crept into view. Slowly at first, then more quickly until the light was almost unbearable. Nykto growled softly as the brightness became too much to watch any longer.

Sunrise lasted far too short a time for Nykto's liking. With the brightness only increasing, he knew it was time to head to shade. He quickly spread his wings and leaped into the air, taking off into the sky. As he gained altitude, he noticed dark clouds far off in the distance that he had not been able to see from that ground. Looks like a storm is headed this way, he thought with a smile. He flew quickly, heading away from the rising sun to retreat to the forest. It would be a while before the storm clouds blocked out the sun.

The rising of the sun not only brought light and the start of a new day, but also the rise of life throughout the land. Those who ruled the night started to make their way in to the darkness of sleep, as those who ruled with the sun opened their eyes to the start of their morning routines.

This was no different for a certain wind stallion. The break of the sun meant it was time to rise and head out to soak up the warm rays to help his body wake with his mind. It wasn’t really a necessity to him being able to function properly, in a way, but if he didn’t sun himself it would not be able to function at his peak capacity. It would just mean it would take longer to wake up and for his muscles to loosen.

With a yawn escaping his mouth, the young wind stallion slowly, and unsteadily, made his way out in to a clearing that sat in the middle of the forest. It was a place he usually used as a nice sunning spot when he found himself in the area.

Once there he let himself flop on the ground, his legs curled under him, and wings spread out to full length.

Nykto had made it to the forest, but continued his flight well above the tree tops. The light that filled the land was bright, and unwelcoming. Nykto growled as the rays covered his body, stinging and burning where they touched. He knew he needed to get to the shade now, no longer able to stay in the light. He'd not be able to be picky about where he'd sleep today.

Up ahead, he noticed a clearing in the trees, just the thing he had been looking for. He flew over the clearing then circled back, gliding down in a circle to land there. However, as he started his glide, he noticed something else in the clearing. He was not in the mood to be greeted by someone, but it was too late to find a different place to land now. His entire body already felt like it was on fire.

Solitude, something it seemed the morning wasn’t about to give him this day, which came to be an annoying thought for the young mixed wind stallion. With the careful turn of his ears he could faintly sense something was about to invade his space. What he was, he did not know because he could not see it, but he did know it was something that could take flight, and something around his own size, if not bigger or smaller. He would have to make a note not stay calm and keep on his toes, or…hooves, whichever.

Slowly, Zaitus rose from the ground and folded his wings to his size. Sunning would have to wait, for there were more important matters to tend to for now.

He opened his pale on black eyes and turned them to the glowing skies above. The mixes of blues and light oranges of dawn were beautiful, but they did not have his attention like the figure making its way to the ground did. A brow rose when a realization hit him, Kalona.

Nykto soon came to a landing, his hooves beating harshly against the grassy ground as he touched ground. His wings flexed and beat hard, the grass rustling again from the wind, then he folded his wings to his side. His gaze did not fall on the one he had mistakenly intruded on. Rather, his eyes remained low with his hair covering his face.

"Well, well.. what do we have here.." his glance shifted up to look at Zaitus. He made no further approach to the other Soquili. His ultimate goal would be to get out of the sunlight, but he made no attempt to get farther into the shade yet either. He remained perfectly still as he regarded the stallion before him

The wind stallion's gaze set itself to a glare as he stood his ground and sized the kalona up. For now, he didn't seem like a threat, but from what he learned in his young life, he knew things weren't always what they seemed, and anything could shift with the stomp of a hoof.

"What does it look like, or does that red mess you call a mane blind your sight when your brain isn't clicking for you?"

Zaitus knew very well what words slipped from his mouth, but he couldn't help his nature. Or could he? No, he very well couldn't. For someone who was supposedly part "bird" and part "snake" he really wasn't one who flew away or gave any warning to those who trespassed against him. Instead, he was someone who would rather just take strike and test his boundries with those he ran in to, and the male before him would be no different.

He may have been a kalona, a creature most would fear from first sight, but Zaitus felt no fear, just a mix if curiosity.

Would the stallion be one who was full of blood lust, someone of amusement, or would he be like the kalona Zaitus met as a foal and accept him in?

Nykto remained completely still, only his eyes moving as his lids narrowed slightly. The remark about his mane did not bother him, though the tone of the wind stallion's voice did. Nykto wasn't surprised though, he was becoming use to this sort of reaction from others he met. It was both refreshing and annoying to not be feared simply by the way he looked.

"It seems I've stumbled upon a something of a brave little bird." A small smirk spread across Nykto's features. He wondered if the daring attitude was all a front or not. Though it didn't matter; it seemed this male might make for some nice entertainment.

As the sun began to shine more brightly into the clearing in which they stood, Nykto knew he needed to get to the shade sooner rather than later. It wasn't yet unbearable though. The rays of light shining down felt quite similar to thousands of tiny needle pricks, growing steadily more painful.

Despite the constant pain, Nykto showed no signs of what he felt as he continued to watch the wind stallion in front of him. Nytko closed his eyes slightly, tilting his head to one side. "Tell me...are you really as brave as you appear to be?" he asked, only a curious tone in his voice.
