I'll be in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on the.. 26th, I think. For about a week.

I'll have a laptop with me, so I'll check in every day if I can. 3nodding

(...After going to the beach. Tee hee.)

I also need books to read on the beach. Any recommendations?

There's always Mass Effect: Revelation and Mass Effect: Ascension. wink

But if you want a break from Mass Effect, there's always Black Hawk Down, Generation Kill, Perfect Dark: Initial Vector, Perfect Dark: Second Front, the Guardian of Ga'Hoole series (but only read 1-8 ), and damn, that's all I can think of at the moment.

Jonathan Kellerman and James patterson are always a no miss

The Doom Brigade is a quick read, and one of my favorites. If you haven't read crime and punishment or Frankenstein, I definitely recommend those. ^_^

Already read Frankenstein my... third (?) quarter of senior year. It was pretty good. But out of all the books I read that year, Grapes of Wrath was my favorite. whee I think I was the only person in my class who liked that book.

I might reread the ME novels or the DA novels. And I'm not much for action novels, but a couple of James Patterson's books are good.

I like science fiction and fantasy.. post-apocalyptic, space opera, that sort of thing.

Uhhh

To Kill a Mockingbird
The Wild Shore by Kim Robinson Stanley.

And maybe Breakfast on Pluto? I haven't read it yet, but the movie has Cillian Murphy so you might like it.

I've never read The Grapes of Wrath, but I read Frankenstein in High school as well. Crime and Punishment though is a Great book. I can't recommend this enough. It's so good it's insane lol I love it. It doesn't fall into fantasy or science fiction but it's ummmmmmmmm I'm not sure what genre, It definitely gets you thinking though

I'll definitely look into it. i've nevger read tolstoy before. and you should check out grapes of wrath. the one thing most people didn't like is steinbeck alternated chapters of plot with more descriptive chapters about the great depression and symbolism.

and i might get to kill a mockingbird; i definitely liked that. my library doesn't have the wild shore (they do have the gold coast though, which is weird) the though... i swear they used to though; the cover looks familiar.

and breakfast on pluto is actually in my bookshelf, and the movie is on my tivo LOL.

Well, if you enjoy sci-fi, I can very strongly recommend the Perfect Dark books & comic series, should you be able to find a copy. (series goes Perfect Dark: Initial Vector [book], Perfect Dark: Janus' Tears [comic series, the whole collection is available as a paperback] and Perfect Dark: Second Front [book])

Perfect Dark sounds familiar... That's a game, right?

But I'll check it out. I'm also going to try a few Charlotte & Emily Bronte books. I'm reading a parody of Jane Slayre, and it's pretty good. (Nothing beats Pride and Prejudice and Zombies though)

I'm also bringing World War Z to listen to in the car. Alan Alda and Mark Hamill do voice acting. -squeeeeeeeee!-

And I might get 100 Classic Books for DS, sooo I should be set. If anything pops in your head though, definitely post it. I am a glutton for books.

Yeah, Perfect Dark is a game series made by Rare. First released in 2000 for the N64, it is often described as the spiritual successor to Goldeneye. Perfect Dark, often been hailed as one of the greatest games of all time, received a prequel in the form of Perfect Dark Zero (which was one of the launch titles for the X-Box 360 in 2004), but it didn't achieve the same level of praise that the original received.
In March of 2010, the world saw a HD remake of the classic released for the X-Box Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points.

Wow, I turned a little explanation into a sales pitch didn't I? sweatdrop

Ah Myrtle Beach huh? I used to go there every summer with my cousins who live in North Carolina, not so recently though, good times.

Hm you said you're not much for action novels but I can't help but mention this book I found and read back when I was in high school. It's certainly got quite a mix of action so I dunno if that would turn you away from it, but it also fits under sci fi, you get a feel for the characters, it's "sort of" post-apocalyptic, but not quite, and I shall explain!

The book I am speaking of is called "Minutes to Burn" (Took some searching in the back of my mind to remember the name) by Gregg Andrew Hurwitz. It was written in 2001 and takes place in 2007 heh. Anywho while I can remember the whole story replayed through my head, it's difficult to explain this book so I'll just use this review I found which seems to hit the nail on the head.

"It is the year 2007, earthquakes rattle the globe, the ozone layer is shot and evolution kicks into overdrive in this gripping action-movie-in-waiting. Hurwitz has engineered a deft recombinant blend of a thriller, tossing in lots of scientific speculation la Crichton in Jurassic Park mode, a ragtag Navy SEAL crew reminiscent of the Aliens heroes, some Predator and a dash of Rambo. In his jam-packed tale, a rogue virus appears on one of the Galpagos islands, and soon the remote archipelago is populated by nine-foot-tall man-eating monsters. Unaware of the infestation, scientists are sent from the U.S. to set up seismic sensors, and a team of seven Navy SEALs are assigned to escort them. Team members include husband-and-wife Justin and Cameron, who is not quite showing her pregnancy; squad leader Derek, having problems with concentration, much less command; and the gigantic Tank, among others. Most enjoyable is the 50ish knife-wielding Nam vet, Savage, who practically steals the book. Stranded on the island without guns after a series of screwups, the team is sucked into a nightmarish chase, turned from hunters to hunted and back again. Hurwitz's first novel, The Tower, was labeled a satire of serial killer novels by some reviewers. This page-turner keeps a satiric edge, too, while Hurwitz proves he is perfectly at home with toothy creatures on the rampage and a thrilling array of other soon-to-be FX."

It was a good read for me certainly, it is a good feeling to remember it heh. I dunno bout the rest of you, but when I read a book that I personally found really great, I remember the story pretty much forever and always think back at certain scenes or moments, especially when something happens or I see something that reminds me of a related event in the book. If that makes sense, I thought it was something interesting to mention. Anyway the most moments like that I get are from this particular book mrgreen

I'll have to read Grapes of Wrath. I haven't been reading as much as I used to. A fresh book would be nice.
I've heard Paradise Lost is a must read. I have it, but I can't seem to read it. I've gotten through the first few pages, and not that its not interesting but the whole plot of the poem just unnerves me. I will read it though... eventually lol well anyway it's an epic poem, pretty well known I think
Just wanted to throw it out there. maybe you'll read it befor eI do lol
PostPosted: Thu Jun 17, 2010 7:01 pm

LOL that's one of the epic poems I'd like to read eventually.. Same with the Odyssey and the complete Beowulf.

edit: Greg Rucka wrote the PD books, so I'll check it out. He wrote Batman: No Man's Land, which I looove.
