 The news had spread like wild fire throughout the pack. First Penthesilea had taken on a consort, that b*****d Achilles who had previously tried to kill her. And now what had started out as just whispers of gossip had turned into truth. The Queen was expecting her first litter. While a joyous occasion Thealia also found it quite disturbing. For she had wished her daughter Azalea to be named the packs princess and now that was in jeopardy. She had to act quickly to secure her daughter that position before Penthesilea had her pups.
This morning she woke early, earlier than normal and forced Azalea out of then den. They then walked, well more like ran, towards the border of the packs area, away from all those prying ears of the sisters. The last thing Thealia wanted was for her conversation to be overheard and their plans revealed to the Queen. No, best keep this quiet for now. "Hurry up." She quietly snapped at Azalea giving the pup a not so gentle nudge with her nose.

 Having been forced to wake up so early and in such a rude manner Azalea was not in the mood for her mothers harshness. Planting her paws as Thealea gave her a shove from behind Azalea tried her best to stand her ground. But her mothers persistence paid off and sent Azalea tumbling forward. Azalea's anger snapped in that very moments and as she got to her feet a small growl rumbled in her throat. "Damn it mother what it going on?" If this was another one of those private lessons her mother had sprung on her every now and then Azalea was no interested. At least not this early in the morning.

Thealia returned her daughters growl with one of her own, albeit much louder and angrier. "Don't take that tone with me daughter." She snapped at the pup, and only after wards did she seem to think more with reason than her anger. They couldn't be bickering amongst themselves if this plan was to work. No, for once Thealia had to force her anger back and approach this with calmness. Giving her head a shake to clear away her anger Thealia looked down at her daughter as she lowered herself onto her haunches.
"We have a serious problem on our paws Azalea. The Queen may very well have a blood heir soon, and if she does then that takes away your chances of becoming the packs princess." Thealia tone was stern, she couldn't afford to have Azalea thinking this was no big deal, because quite frankly it was a big deal.

Giving her fur a shake to free it from the dirt and other small debris that it had accumulated after her fall Azalea followed suit and sat down. Her mothers words made some sense to her. Azalea had heard of that the Queen was expecting puppies but why be so concerned about it. As far as Azalea knew she was the first born in the new pack and that made her the princess, right?
"But I am the first born female. I am the princess mother." She told her confidently, though inside she was truly questioning if that was the truth or not. What if she wasn't the princess, then what would happen to her? Azalea liked the idea of being a princess so the idea of losing that position was a little disturbing.

Thealia nearby reached out and smacked Azalea with her paw for that comment. But again she told herself it was best to not to approach this with anger. With a sigh Thealia shook her head. "You are first born in the pack, but that does not make you the princess. The princess is the first born of the Queen or a female chosen by her to take her place." Tail curled around her paws as she paused for a moment to let that soak in. "The Queen has not announced you as her heir, which means should she produce a female in her litter then that pup would be the rightful blood heir. Now do you see the problem?"

It felt like the world she had known all along was suddenly crumbling around her. She almost wanted to cry knowing that her chances for being the princess were fading. But no, she was the daughter of a warrior, and a warrior in training herself so she would not let those weak emotions cloud her judgment right now. "I must be the princess." She told her mother with a stamp of her foot. "How can I make the Queen name me her heir? I will do whatever it takes. I will not let so little twerp taken my power away." Azalea sat tall, showing that she would not back down from any challenge that would come of this. She would do what she must to secure her position as the packs princess.

A smile crossed Thealiea maw at her daughter's reaction. Good, she would need all the determination to get in order to pull this whole thing off. "It won't be easy, but we will do everything we can." Standing Thealia circled around her daughter, noting how she stood tall and proud now. "First you will need to get in the Queens good graces. Prove that you can be more than just a warrior, that you are destined for greater things. You will need to know how everything in the pack works. Show her that even large problems can be solves by you." She came to a stop beside her daughter, lowering her head down for a moment. "You must be her shadow, but don't pester her. Be sure to be there every time she needs something, and make sure you can provide her with what she needs."
Thealia started circling her daughter once more. "From now on when you are not training you will be learning everything there is to know about being a princess as well as making sure you are there to serve the Queen. You must prove to her that even though you are still young you can take on much responsibility."
