 Aleu lay on her back within her den. It was late at night and from the extreme quiet around her everyone was fast asleep in their dens. Everyone but her. She had been plagued by so many thoughts lately that it was impossible to sleep tonight. The number of things that had happened in the packs life in such a short time was almost overwhelming. Between the two new litters of pups, Corvus' still shy and weary pups and her continued problems with Verse it was a wonder she got sleep at all. Then there was the issue with Terreis, though it wasn't truly her issue, but still Aleu hated seeing Derecho so down about things. But now Terreis had come back again, though no one knew for how long, but for the most part life had returned to normal.
And yet Aleu couldn't sleep. She wanted - no, she needed to talk to Verse. But he had always ran away, and it was more than frustrating when she was trying to tell him her feelings. How could she ever tell him if he never stood still along enough. Rolling onto her stomach Aleu let out a sigh. Maybe she should just get Derecho to hold him down after all, it seemed the most logical option now. That or corner him in his den. Head snapped up at that thought, it was crazy sure, but he would probably be sound asleep right now which would give her the upper hand this time around.
Well hell why not. What was the worst that could happen? Well he could run away again, but not without a lot of effort this time. And him running away was nothing new of course. Should he do it again - well then she would give up. No sense in wasting all her time on him. So getting to her feet Aleu slipped out of her den quietly. Glancing about to make sure no others were out as well she crept slowly and as quietly as possible towards Verse's den. Once there she paused at the entrance, took one last look around and slipped inside.
After her eyes adjusted to the extra darkness that came from being inside the den Aleu glanced upon the sleeping Verse. Look at him, she though, totally unaware of what was about to happen. Aleu positioned herself so that she sat in front of the entrance to the den, her body blocking a good portion of it and then after a deep calming breath she called out to him. "Verse." She said quietly at first. But since he didn't seem to stir at that she spoke louder this time. "Verse!"

 Verse was snoring lightly as Aleu crept into his den, completely unaware that she had at long last managed to corner him. He whimpered slightly, his paws moving in spastic running motion when she called his name the first time - his dream self replaying one of their many awkward meetings over the last few months. It wasn't until Aleu spoke his name louder that Verse woke up.
His head snapping upwards he banged in on the low ceiling of the back of the den where he preferred to sleep - which elicited a bit of a groan and a brief shaking of his now addled head before he recalled what had awoken him. "Aleu?" He questioned in a somewhat startled voice. What on Telk was she doing here? What time was it? Peering to the side of her she took note o the black starry sky "What are you doing here? What time is it?!? Has something happened?"

When Aleu saw his legs twitching in that classic running in ones sleep sort of way she wanted to hard to yell at him. But the situation could only be made worse by doing so. Instead she watched him as he suddenly awake and hit his head on the top of the den. It took a lot of effort not to laugh at that, but she managed to hold the chuckle back. Of course Aleu was somewhat surprised by his questions. Had something happened? She could only assume that meant he was thinking that something had happened to Merrill or the pups.
"Nothing has happened." She said calmly and then glanced behind her at the starry night. "It's late, very late." It was true, she should have been to sleep hours ago, but no this had to happen now or not at all. "Are you fully awake?" She questioned him as her attention returned to his end of the den. "Because we need to talk, and there will be no running away this time and I really don't want you fallig asleep either."

Verse frowned slightly at the female wolf when she admitted nothing had happened and that it was very late - why on Telk had she chosen to come and wake him up in the middle of the night if nothing terrible had happened? If this was about a song then he would seriously consider throttling her. "I'm awake" He told her in a grumpy fashion, stretching a little and crawling forward a bit so he could stand up.
"Couldn't this have waited till morning? I'm sure whatever problem you have could be solved then" He told her in an annoyed tone. Honestly..he needed his beauty sleep you know?

Aleu could feel her patience reaching it's end already and the who thing had only just begun. Why did he insist on making things so hard on her? More importantly why did she keep bothering when that was the continued trend of the situation. "No, it can't wait til morning." She said with a shake of her head. "I have put it off long enough." Of course that was partially her fault and partially his.
If she could have stood and paced about she probably would have, but then that would have left the den entrance open for his escape. Aleu could feel her nerves starting to get the best of her, there would be no taking her time with it this time. Best to just blurt it out and see what happens. "Look I know we haven't always gotten along, especially when you first came here. But I think things have changed since then." She swallowed hard, her mouth feeling suddenly dry. "What I'm trying to say is...Verse, I have feelings for you okay. I like you, I really like you. And all I want to know from you is if you feel the same way. If so then that's great. If not, you better tell me now and break my heart so that I can stop wasting my time on you."

Verse would be lying if he was completely caught off guard by this statement - Merrill had hinted to him that there was a chance Aleu liked him quite some time ago - but once that realization had been made Verse had decided it had to be wrong. Certainly Aleu could do better then him and if she did like him she'd probably change her mind after spending a good portion of time with him.
So he'd decided the best course of action had been to just...avoid it. All of it. Avoid her so she didn't change her mind, Avoid the subject by not bringing it up himself - and go about acting like nothing was wrong an writing sad depressing poems. It was not the most effective solution as he was now finding out and Verse had to work his jaw for a few moments before figuring out what e could possibly say to her.
When at long last something came to mind Verse reflected that really only one thing made sense given who they were. Verse was not the greatest singer - he was a poet and while his voice was engaging and emotional it lacked the melody of Aleus. None the less he would give it a shot

The silence was killing her as he sat there almost staring at her. Suddenly Aleu felt like an idiot, she knew she should have just forgotten all about it and moved on. Just when she was about to turn and leave Verse spoke...or was that sang to her. She sat there somewhat stunned, mainly because he was singing and his tone was horribly off and secondly because of what it was he was singing. Now she was convinced that she was dreaming back in her den. Because it didn't feel real at all. Her jaw dropped a bit as her as she began to realize that this was no dream, she was really here and so was Verse and what he was singing was his way of telling her how he felt.
Snapping her jaw shut Aleu couldn't help but let a wide smile cross it a moment later. Her tail wagged liked a happy little puppy and not able to hold herself back she quickly moved over to where Verse was, practically knocking him over in her excitement, giving her a loving lick on the cheek. "I love you Verse." Her voice was it's typical smooth and melodic tone, though it held a great amount of joy in it. Pulling her head back for a moment she forced herself to hold her smile back and give him a serious look. "Promise me that you will never sing again, you do far better with poems." Aleu couldn't help but laugh at this.

Verse wasn't sure how hi singing was going over - I mean sure he knew his voice was hardly that of an angels..but was she so terribly distracted by his singing that she wasn't paying any attention to the words? She sure was giving him an odd look and Verse wavered a bit in his singing..but then she smiled and her tail wagged!
Verse let out a small yelp as she crashed into him, claws skidding across the den floor in an effort to stay upright as she practically knocked him sprawling in her excitement. Laughing slightly as he regained his balance "I promise..I promise" He laughed before returning her lick "And I love you too"

At first when he let out that yelp she was worried that he might wake the others, but really she was too excited to truly care about that. So what if they woke up, she now knew that Verse loved her like she loved him and nothing could ruin that moment for her. Aleu knew she should probably let him get back to sleep now, but if he was feeling even a part of the excitement she was right now she knew he would have a hard time doing so. Laying down beside him, smile still plastered across her maw she looked at Verse, her eyes dancing with happiness. "So, was it worth waking you up in the middle of the night for that?" She couldn't help but laugh a bit, cause she knew that had she tried this during the day he probably would have run away not knowing what she was trying to do.

"It was worth it" Verse admitted,and to be perfectly honest with himself he was a bit relieved that she had done it and they had gotten all of this out of the way, he'd been so fretful about just how to do it that it probably would have been a few more months before he would have gotten the courage to approach her himself..and then he likely would have stuttered and gasped and run off a few times before he got it right.
But Aleu had taken care of that for the both of them with her little night time ambush, she was such a smart wolf. "I didn't think you felt the same way.." He admitted, recalling briefly their first meeting "I mean..remember the first time we met?" It hadn't exactly been sunshine and daisies..or love at first sight that was for sure.

Aleu bobbed her head in a nod, yes she understood, for the longest time she wasn't sure if he cared for her either. Sure she had caught him in the forest working on a poem about her, but that wasn't enough to know for certain that he felt for her as she did for him. "Yes, I remember that day." It was hard to forget even after all this time how they had fought on their first meeting. "But you brought that upon yourself you know, insulting singing the way you did." She told him with a chuckle.
"And perhaps if you didn't get into the habit of running off each time we ran into each other recently you would have known sooner." Aleu jabbed his leg with her paw to drive her point home. All this could have been discovered many months ago if he could have just stayed put long enough for her to tell him, but hey cornering him in his den had worked nicely so she wasn't going to complain too much.

Verse scoffed slightly - brought it on himself, as if! why if she hadn't insulted poetry like she had then he wouldn't have had to beat her up - of course he was smart enough to keep this to himself as he was pretty sure that she would remember it differently.
"I thought you were coming to yell at me or something!" He defended himself, pretending to cower away from her poke " I can't help it if you just a big scary bully" He told her with a fake look of big frightened eyes on his face. Not that he actually though Aleu was a bully - sure she spoke her mind and didn't back down when she believed in something but that jut made her strong..not a bully. Bully suited his teasing better for the moment however.

Aleu huffed a bit at that. "If I had been coming to yell at you I would have chased after you whenever you ran off." Eyes narrowed when he called her a bully. Oh she knew he was joking but if he could mock fear right now then she could mock anger and pretend to be this apparent big scary bully. Rising up to a sitting position Aleu then raised her front paws placing them on Verse's shoulder and gave him a shove in an attempt to knock him over. "I'll show you a big scary bully." She teased him and nipped at his ears. It was incredibly difficult to pretend to be this mean bully when they had only moments prior declared their love for one another, but she did her best as it allowed them some moments of fun.

Verse whimpered as she pushed him over, cringing and flailing his paws about as she nipped at his ears with a pathetic sounding whine "But..but I wuuv you!" He plead with her, he almost added 'please don't beat me' but that seemed a bi to much and he dissolved into laughter instead before pricking his ears and glancing towards the den entranceway "Did you hear something?" He questioned her after a few moments, oh gods what if they'd woken up her mother...or worse..his mother? "Do you think we woke someone up..." He whispered, straining his ears to try and hear the sound again though nothing reached his ears. They should probably settle down and get some sleep he decided..before someone else came bursting into the den tonight. Though it was hard to end the fun.
Nuzzling Aleu he smiled at her "We should get some sleep tonight..." He hedged "But I don't wan you to go, will you stay?"

Aleu rolled her eyes at his whimpering and even more so when he stated that he loved her. But then he though he heard something, and Aleu paused in mid nibble, teeth gently holding onto Verse's left ear. Eyes turned to the den entrance but she could neither hear nor see anyone or anything outside. Releasing her grip on his ear she tore her eyes away from den entrance and looked upon Verse. "Maybe it was just the wind." Honestly she didn't care if their noise had woke up someone, for she was certain the entire pack was wondering when this day would come.
Returning his nuzzle Aleu nodded her head. Yes they really should get some sleep. "I don't want to leave." She admitted quietly giving him a lick on his cheek. "I will stay." Letting out a yawn Aleu laid down at the back of the den where Verse had been when she first entered. Smiling as she looked at Verse, she couldn't help but feel like the luckiest wolf in all of Telk tonight. "I love you." Sleep would certainly not come easy to her but with Verse at her side she would at least be happy if nothing else.
