Sado wasn't really angry. He couldn't be. Maddie was too pretty to be angry at. Still, while he didn't feel tricked, he felt that something was missing. There were kids, but...he was doing so much. More than he thought. And Maddie just seemed to wander off without a care in the world. Had he done something wrong? He thought not, but he just wanted to talk to her about it. At least a little bit. Sado was too considerate to really push. He just hoped to talk to her, spend some time together? The kids were off playing, maybe he could catch her for just a short moment. They were mated...weren't they?

Despite everything Maddie had been through in the last little while, everything she had put everybody else through.. she was pretty much back to living her life as normal. She was around, sometimes. She listened without really listening, apologized when necessary and ultimately went about her own business as usual.

This afternoon, she had a trap set for her shiny little stalker, or.. stalkee. She had some flowers she had determined were a favorite and had set out a large pile. Part of her was just aiming to get a really good look at what she was hunting finally, so she lay quietly, a safe distance from her pile of flowers. She was completely unaware of anything more important she ought to be doing.

Sado thought he had her scent, but then there was a pile of flowers in front of him. Not directly, but her scent was mingled in them, and it confused him. He got a little closer, wondering if she had decided to play some sort of game and it had to do with the flowers. Or maybe it was nothing at all, and she had sat in them for a while before moving on. He couldn't tell, but it didn't hurt to get a closer look at them.

As he did, he wondered, was this wise? To chase after her like this? But why shouldn't he? In the eyes of the pride, they were married. And as there was nothing to undo it, beyond death, he was stuck. Stuck with her, and that thought only brought up conflicting emotions that continued to keep him confused and plastered in his spot.

Maddie was suddenly at attention when she spotted movement near her pile-- but then she sighed and relaxed when she saw it was only Sado. It didn't do anything for her now, seeing him hanging out there. She felt a slight twinge of annoyance where she should have felt guilt, sensing that some sort of lecture was coming. Laying in plain sight some distance to the side of the pile of flowers, she watched carefully, wondering if he was going to disturb her plan. If he didn't do anything dramatic, it would be fine to just walk on by the flowers, no harm would be done.

He nudged one of the flowers gently with his paw, suddenly feeling homesick. Oh, to get a lecture from his mother about how brash he had been. That would be welcoming at this point. All h could really do was feel sorry for himself, and she would only chew him out. Though she was a handful, she had been a good mother. He only wished he was stronger.

He had to get stronger, if for his kids. Really, had the "blessing" that infected the Pridelands around his birth stay within him, too? Six kids was a lot, especially if he was the only real one raising him. Sure, he'd get some help from the clan, but at the end of the day, he was their father.

He bent down to take a couple of the flowers, thinking they would be good gifts for his daughters.

Again, she perked up and tensed, watching as her mate (if you could call him that) nudged at the flowers and eventually bent down, ready to take some. She knew she was asking for trouble daring to confront him herself but he was going to ruin everything! She got up to her feet and walked hurriedly over.

"Hey!" she said in a scolding but hushed tone, she still didn't want to scare off her feathered friend, "What are you doing? Don't disturb it!"

Sado was a little surprised to see her. He thought that he had been all alone! He stared at her, dumbfounded that she was still here.

"Wait, what?" he tried to understand what she was doing. Why was she chasing him off like that? "Can't I grab a couple for the girls?" Wow, it felt weird saying that out loud. When keeping it internal, it felt right, but saying it out loud made it feel not so right. Because Maddie was missing something, and Sado was coming to understand that it would always be missing. Or, well, she would at least be missing from her kids' lives.

"I can tell them you're giving it to them? That might cheer them up..."

She stared at him when he said he was wanting to grab a couple for the girls but the look she gave him clearly said it wasn't processing the right way. She wasn't ready to give up the flowers she had worked so hard to gather up like this, there weren't so many in this specific area and it wasn't like there was an easy way for a four-legged animal to carry them all here in one go.

"Can't- can't you go get different flowers?" she asked, narrowing her eyes and looking him up and down suspiciously. She knew to be careful with what she said to him, he already had mentioned the girls, this was going to go down exactly how she thought.

Sado felt his heart snap. Again. As it kept doing. He wasn't really heart-broken, since he kept having this hope that something would switch in her brain and she'd start to care again. Even if it wasn't about him, he just hoped that she'd be more...motherly. He sighed, gently placing the flowers back in her pile. Hopefully she would calm down, as he didn't like the look she gave him.

"I suppose so," he shook his head. "What're you hunting for, if I can ask, Maddie?"

She relaxed again when he didn't jump right into a lecture about how she ought to be doing.. something else. Her eyes followed him as he put the flowers back and then she looked around them for signs of her little friend, wondering if he was anywhere nearby but it didn't quite seem that way. She.. might be able to spare a moment for Sado. He just wasn't as much fun as he had been before.

"A bird," she said, glancing around again, "I think, anyway. I'm trying to get a good look at it, it likes these flowers."

He looked a little perturbed, but he didn't say what he really felt. Maybe he would mention it later, but he guessed if he tried to confront her she'd just skip off. It seemed like something she would do.

He decided he would "play" with her a little bit, at least until she started to ignore him. Which, probably wouldn't be in too much time, she was more interested in this bird than him.

"You think?" he asked, as it seemed like Maddie was good at knowing what she set her (temporary) sights on.

"It's something small and bright and I've spotted it most frequently around the bushes with these flowers," she said matter-of-factly, wandering a small circle around her little pile of flowers, gently pushing them back into the neat little pile the breeze and Sado had disturbed.

"So I'm trying this today," she said, looking back up and pausing before sighing, "You didn't want to watch for it with me, did you?" She didn't sound thrilled but he wasn't leaving so maybe he was trying to stick around. He could be useful, maybe.

Sado wondered. Was that what he was? Something small to attract her attention for a while, and then lose it? He had such conflicting emotions. He was devastated that she was really, truly, like this, but then, he did have kids. And they adored him. Right?

"I'll stick around for a little bit," he said. "How about we go hide a bit?" he offered, hoping to sooth other her apparent dislike for him still being around.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2010 5:18 pm

"Nah, I don't think we need to hide," she said, not hesitating to shoot him down immediately, she looked around and paused at the place she had been laying before, "If we're just watching, not hunting, we shouldn't really have to hide. Small creatures come out all the time when they don't feel threatened." She nodded, and then started back to where she had been watching from.

"We can watch from over here."

"Oooookay." He wanted to beg differently, but hey, if she thought she knew that this bird was going to show up, he really shouldn't argue. She didn't take it well when someone wanted to go against her, he had noticed lately. Worse so than when they first met, and that whole incident trying to climb up the mountain. He was still a little embarassed by that.

He moved over to where the spot was, hoping she wouldn't just...ditch him.
