It was urgent times, and during urgent times, ********* expected her girls to go above and beyond the usual call of duty. Sailor Iris did not appreciate such a mandate from a cat. A cat she enjoyed calling "defective." It was pointless to argue. It was much more effective to just smile at the girl and let Iris just get upset for no reason at all.
Iris was complaining about something or other, which the tailless cat listened to carefully. Apparently Iris was complaining about all this extra work, and here ********* was, sitting in her arms, nodding her head as if she agreed with her full heart. It was ironic since the manx was honestly the source of all of this work for the tomboy.
The pair had just passed the back of a restaurant, rushing past a garbage dumpster when ********* ears seemed to perk up.
There was something dark, something she could associate with the Negaverse nearby. Normally, this was a no brainer, and the cat would have told the senshi where to go and they would have taken care of business. Yet, there was something different about this scenario. Why did this feel familiar?
"Iris... henshin down and go into the restaurant and get me something from there. Leave me here for now."
"What? This is a f*ckin' sit down restaurant!! You gotta be sh*ttin' me, cat!"
"Iris..."
"Why can't you wait until we get home...?"
"Iris..."
"God damn it cat... you better have a reason fer this!"
Soon enough, the tailless cat was set down by the garbage dumpster. If it wasn't for the fact the cat had a bulky cast over her leg, Iris might have told her to not go anywhere. It was obvious the cat wasn't going anywhere.
As the tall blonde girl ran off, ********* pale green eyes trailed behind her. Only once she was certain Iris was no longer within hearing distance, the cat rather boldly announced herself to what seemed like an empty alleyway.
"Whoever you are... please come out. I sent my girl off, so you can rest assured we can talk without interference."

Another day, another seed.
Hel had been collecting them day by day, saving them up in the event that she needed to call forth a Youma, though she doubted the need would arise it was always better to be ready, especially considering she wasn't the best of fighters. Better a Youma to do the dirty work then risk herself.
She had just finished stuffing the body of a young man into the corner of the ally just another 'drunk' who happened to 'fall and hit his head' in the back of an ally. It was then she heard a voice, calling her out?
"You know most people wouldn't be calling strangers out in dark ally's with whats been happening lately." The voice didn't ring a bell to Hel, though for ********* it would be a very different story, even more so as the red hooded Senshi stepped around the corner tossing the starseed up in the air.
To which she paused, no one was there at first glance, no one but a cat in a cast with a star on its head.

The cat almost seemed to frown the moment she heard the voice. ********* was one of those cats who remembered names and faces pretty easily. Voices were also easier to recognize when you remembered names and faces. It was a rarity, but the feline's ears pinned back slightly as her blatant concern seemed to get the better of her.
The pale green eyes of the feline fixated themselves on the familiar girl before her. "Sailor Hel, Senshi of Ashes, please explain to me why I am not able to tell who you are based upon your starseed alone?" Though the question was a serious one, the feline's tone was still light, friendly, and conversational rather than scolding. There was a hint of concern, but it didn't overwhelm her voice.
She didn't make it evident, but the tailless feline noticed the stray lingering starseed. It was enough evidence to give the cat an idea as to what was going on. There wasn't much the feline could do aside from lay there on the ground, shifting every so often to make herself more comfortable against the concrete.

The cat was talking, it had to be. No one else was in the ally right then and she had clearly seen the cat looking at her intently when she spoke, not to mention it had just listed Hel's full title.
"I am Sailor Hel, yes. Though I'm afraid I have no clue who you are little cat..." Never mind she had yet to meet a talking cat as far as she could recall. Ursula might have mentioned a cat that could talk once in passing, but Ursula said a lot of things. She also sang Lady Gaga in the car a lot.
Crouching down she slipped the starseed into what little space her corset offered to inspect the cat. "My starseed huh?" It was said with a raised eyebrow, from being so close it was quite clear to see the hole inside her chest. Red and pulsing with the dark energy Sailor Hel's corrupted crystal shined like a beacon to ********* she reached out to scratch the pathetic thing, why would a cat be wandering around in a cast let alone just left in an ally way?

Regardless of the situation, the cat seemed to be a sucker for affection of any sort. When the girl reached out to give her a few scratches, ********* pushed her cheek into it and nuzzled against the hand. This girl had done this for her before as well, but unfortunately, this time was not like the previous.
"I will ask this. Do you remember how you came to be Sailor Hel? Could you humor a simple cat such as myself with the story of how you came to be Sailor Hel instead of simple Vanessa?"
Had the senshi in red even mentioned her civilian name?
As the cat pulled her furry cheek away from the girl's dark gloved hand, her eyes easily caught upon the starseed that almost seemed to burn within the senshi's chest. Just as wearing a fuku was a telltale sign that someone was a senshi, this starseed's condition also had a story.
And the talking manx cat knew the story would not be the same one she remembered.

Something was off, she didn't know why but here she was petting this strange talking cat discussing, well, her Senshi identity? Why did it all feel oddly off like dejavu that made no sense. Still the warmth of the fuzzy little cat was oddly enjoyable. "You really are a strange cat to ask so many questions you know? I don't even think another Senshi has asked so many questions."
The next question though caused her dark gloved hand to slip away leaving her starseed so openly exposed to the small guardian. "Remember? How I became?" Slowly she stood up stepping back with a look of mixed horror and confusion. "I... I remember a room faintly, being taught by a women with red hair how to use my powers to become Hel and back to my normal self. Almost everything else was instinct." She shook her head quickly stumbling back a bit more to lean on a dumpster. "But...you called me Vanessa, no one... no one calls me that." No one she cared to remember, not her old family, she had left them long ago, probably still looking for the lost girl or mourning her death. She hadn't read the papers for it knowing it was something she would rather never know.
The story was indeed different nothing at all like the way ********* would recall the Sunday at the ihop, she would recall a happier meeting one in which Vanessa was told by a perky castless cat that she was destined to make a change in the city.
That day was long gone.

With a faint smile, the cat pointed out "Most people would find it strange that a cat could speak at all, Hel." It wasn't a happy smile. It was a sad smile. Her whiskers twitched slightly as she sighed and for a moment, glanced up from the gaping hole in the girl's chest to her crimson eyes.
"I've known you longer than the woman with the red hair did. That much should be obvious." The cat's eyes blinked, as if attempting to blink away any tears that might have been trying to emerge from the soft green orbs. With a slight shake of her head, the spotted feline's fur puffed up, and her bell about her neck jingled rather sharply. Her little gray nose twitched a bit as she took in another breath. Something was obviously bothering the cat, and the cat, in turn, was attempting to calm herself down.
"No...what you remember is when your starseed was manipulated. Tainted. That is not how you became a Sailor Senshi. No, it wasn't anything nearly as formal as what you explained. I've never been that formal in my life!"
Ihop definitely was not a place to be taught the ways of being a senshi. No, it was a place to get delicious food. It was a place where pesky cats like ********* could beg people as they left for their leftovers with adorable mewing sounds. Vanessa was one of the many victims of the tailless cat's innocent pleas. She had been kind enough to share some nibbles of blueberry pancake with the spotted feline just prior to the Youma attacking. It wasn't a very strong Youma at all. Yet it was enough of a reason to awaken this girl with pigtails as the Senshi of Ashes. Certainly, Sailor Hel was not one of ********* girls. Maybe Sailor Hel had been able to sense this, ********* usually didn't think anything of it. Yet all the same, the feline still offered support and encouragement, and answered all the questions she could. The manx was all smiles then.
As she was now, though these smiles seemed to droop in comparison to their former glory. One of the first she awakened in this city, before she had even located Sailor Iris and Sailor Metis. And now, Sailor Hel was one of the fallen.

Had Hel been less startled she might have made a remark how most people couldn't spill ash from their hands, leap up buildings or heal in half the time. Magic was abundant in the city and part of her was accepting that far to easily now a days.
"How could you have known me? I never had a cat. They never let me, I would have remembered having one," It was a conversation that would twist ********* heart, a conversation they once had, how Vanessa's parents were very much against the idea of pets, she had seen ********* as the pet she could never have, though she did anyway sneaking about to visit the cat on nightly patrols. One of the happier conversations.
Others had followed long after that trip to ihop, not questions that had related to if Hel was one of ********* 'girls' questions that had almost seemed, heretic in a way, always wanting to know why they fought for a princess they might never see. If ********* lingered on it long enough she would start to see why Hel might have ended up in that ally not long after the horrors of the Doom Tree. Questions that had turned a simple girl away from the White Moon and drove her to the darkness that had devoured those memories replacing them with the purpose she had so often questioned ********* about.
But none of that mattered to Hel, she knew nothing accept that the day she was awoken in that ally she had to give up a part of her past that she never spoke of. She would never remember ihop, or blueberry pancakes.
"I'm not tainted, I did nothing wrong when I became Hel! How can you keep talking like I should know you! I don't remember you at all!" Her voice was rising as they spoke, fear and confusion clawing at her slowly. Was this some kind of joke? Another nightmare?

The corners of her mouth twitched as Sailor Hel continued to admit that she had no memory for the spotted cat. Her mouth was still in that sad smile. With a slightly indignant sniff, the cat turned away for a moment.
"I would never be a pet. You should know better." With a firm nod, she turned back to the girl. Yes, this girl should have known better. Yet, she didn't. No, if this girl couldn't remember ever meeting the pale furred cat, then she could never remember the fact the cat rarely rested. ********* personal mission never ended.
In an attempt to swallow any of the negative emotions, the feline attempted to speak in a calmer, more conversational tone. "You underestimate the information which a cat has available to them, Hel." It was something which the spotted manx did remember about Sailor Hel. She tended to underestimate things a lot, mostly because she put herself on a rather high pedestal.
"Just so you know, Sailor Hel... Senshi are not awakened by the way you spoke of. It is a pity you can't remember how you were really awakened." Despite what seemed like a verbal challenge, the feline's tone still lingered upon friendly. It wasn't like the cat could do anything anyways. She stretched out her hind legs a bit and attempted to shift in place, but there really was no point.
********* was stuck there until Sailor Iris returned.

On one hand the cats face spoke volumes to Hel, so sympathetic and sad, could someone truly be lying and ware a face that sorrowful?
"No I wouldn't, I wouldn't I don't even know your name so how would I know what you want? She started to breath heavy taking deep breaths trying hard to calm herself, the cats voice had lowered, she wasn't trying to hurt her, so why was she getting so worked up?
"If you have so much information why are you cutting corners and talking to me like I should already know everything you're talking about?" Slowly she made her way back to kneel across from *********, not as close as she had been earlier, but she did seem to be calming down for the moment.
"If that's not how Senshi are awakened then how are they and why are you telling me all this..."

A light airy laughter escaped the feline. There was nothing cruel about it, no scorn noted in the tone, but it was a gentle laughter. With her non-cast-wearing foreleg, the feline rubbed her paw along her face.
It was always so strange that the little manx cat seemed so insistent upon looking Sailor Hel in the eyes every time she spoke to her. The moment pale green met crimson, it was a signal that the cat was ready to say something. "You did know all of those answers once. Who I am, what I do, how a Senshi truly comes to be? All of it, you once knew."
The way the red-hooded senshi came closer hesitantly was easily noted. "Sailor Hel, I won't bite. If I were going to bite, I would have already done it!" She let out another small laugh before continuing on with her prior explanation.
"I tell you what I am telling you because I want you to remember. No, I don't want to tell you, because then that truly isn't remembering. I want you to remember all of this on your own. So... maybe consider what I have told you food for thought."
Speaking of food, ********* was hungry. However, this was important. Iris would come back eventually with whatever food she could get from the sit-in restaurant, and all would be well with the cat's stomach. She just had to be patient and sort out this ordeal in front of her now.

Hel wasn't sure why the cat was laughing, what was there to laugh about? She was a Negaverse Senshi in an ally with a dead body not but a few yards away and the cat was laughing. It wasn't mocking or scorn what was it then?
"So you're saying that the reason I don't remember has to do with what I do remember? That might be true but why should I care? How do I know your not lying to me?" She continued to kneel not moving any closer shaking her head at the biting comment, the poor cat probably couldn't even walk proper let alone pose any threat, but she had no intention of moving.
"Food for thought? How about this; your talking about Senshi, about how they come to be, why shouldn't I pick you up and deliver you to the Queen herself? I might have been a Senshi once, but you would never take me back, we all know what Kunzite did to Nova, why should I trust the same won't happen to me?"
What would happen if she listened to the cat? Or even followed through on her word delivering her to Nea and in turn the Queen? Would the Queen tell her the truth, or was the cat honestly the truthful one. None of it was fully adding up to her.

Whisker twitched at the mention of Kunzite. If there was ever a soldier who was a polar opposite of this spotted cat, it was Kunzite.
The feline's initial response was relatively simple. "Kunzite is Kunzite, as I am me." It obviously was not a complete explanation, so she continued with a follow up statement. "I do not control what Kunzite does, and in turn, Kunzite does not control what I do. Consider me a hopeless optimist if you will." Once again, another small laugh seemed to accent her point.
That gentle laugh soon enough led to some other memories, which at the moment, ********* was not afraid to comment upon. "You were always the sort who was suspicious of everything. I'd say 'trust me, I am a horrible liar,' but you'd probably think I was lying about that too."
The fur about her cheeks puffed up slightly as she then addressed some vaguely more serious topics. ********* was trying really hard to keep this as conversational as possible. Sailor Hel had always been the sort to get louder when she got upset. It wasn't that hard to remember how many times the girl had been yelling at her the various questions she had come up with.
"Perhaps you don't care. However, the side that one picks can easily lead to the end or the beginning of the world. And I did warn you earlier, Hel. Do not underestimate a cat." If the cat had a tail at all, it would have flicked to one side lazily, again, simply to accent her point. Certainly, in this form, ********* was stuck. Yet, if push came to shove, and there was an emergency of some sort which required the cat to GET OUT NOW, there was always her other form...

"What Kunzite did was drive us farther away from the White Court, even if you are such an optimist what will that matter to Kunzite? To any of the other Senshi? No, we won't ever come back because we know what will happen, we will be turned against and end up just as dead as Nova did!" The laughter did nothing for Hel, it wasn't something she could easily laugh away.
"It's a sound train of thought, you know that as well as I do. We live in a dangerous time, I can't even trust you right now!" Her voice cracked once again, though ********* tried to keep her calm Hel's frustration in check nothing could stop the girls natural tendency to grow frustrated when she was at a lost for knowledge.
"I'm fighting for the side trying to win back the Earth from the Lunars, we were promised our place in the kingdom and we will fight to make sure that kingdom comes true." Her voice calmed slightly, growing confident as she spoke, as if the thought of such a future calmed a bit of her frustration before her eyes settled on ********* again curiously. "Sitting in a cast you tell me not to under estimate you, slowly she leaned forward reaching out to scratch her behind the ear again, "If anything I think your crazy for doing any of this."

The grapevine was such a terrible thing. You heard all sorts of things through it, and half of the time it wasn't true. Such seemed to be the case with the Senshi of Ashes. There were so many things that could be corrected.
However, rather strangely, the feline didn't address any of this at all. Instead, she said in a pleasant tone "My girl is returning. I suggest if you like your hand upon your wrist, you back away a bit. She has a rather nasty temper, Sailor Hel."
It was a warning, but how willing the Senshi of Ashes was willing to listen was another issue altogether. It was too bad, since the feline really loved to be scratched behind the ears.
