"Wait!" she called to her son Xanthus. "Wait for your brother!"Xanthus was ready, and raring to go. He wanted to test his wings. He wanted to fly!
It had finally stopped raining, and his feathers had dried, so now nothing was stopping him.....except mom.
"Ugh!" he exclaimed. "I want to go now! Where is he?"
He huffed, and stomped around in a little circle.
"Of all the times for him to disappear.""He'll be along soon, son. I'm not sure where he is right now. Just be patient. I'd rather we all go at the same time so as not to get separated." She tried to calm him.
Flying lessons were always a blast with her two sons.

It was strange, really. . . . but something he'd definitely attempt! The little melancholy and very petite son had taken a few moments to wander the nearby woodlands. He needed to center himself, to concentrate and find some sort of self-confidence. He feared being unable to fly, that his wings weren't as strong as hi brother; he feared his sibling showing off and flying circles around him while he struggled, or worse, secretly bringing his mother to shame or embarrassment!
He was such a runt of a soquili . . . and so tiny. He couldn't help but feel insecure about most everything, especially when it came to his family. Still, the young colt's ears twisted this way and that as he approached the clearing. His brother was hard not to hear, and with a gulp, he bolted out of the woodlands.
"I'm here, I . . . I didn't go far, I just . . needed to think." He was honest as he slowed in his gallop, avoiding Xanthus and looking up at Arianna instead. His little tail shook a bit and he hoped his anxiety wasn't quite so apparant. Both sets of his wings stretched and he offered his mother's side a little nuzzle. "I'm ready though if . . . if you guys are." His voice dropped a bit. Quite different than his outgoing and courageous sibling, Ariashi knew his voice was about as nervous as he felt.
Great.
Just great.
So long as his wings didn't fail him in the sky. . . . all would be well. Maybe. "You're sure I can . . .fly all right with these wings, right, Mother?" He questioned softly, noticing their two apparent sets. His half-faded wings flared a bit in uncertainty. . . Perhaps he'd feel more secure if one set wasn't so translucent.

"Ah! There you are." Arianna smiled at her smallest son,reaching down to nuzzle him with her nose. "Oh yes dear, you'll fly just fine. Just look at your father. He has the same type of wings as you, and has no problems at all." She smiled, hoping to bestow encouragement to the young colt.
Xanth trotted over to his brother, prodding his transparent wing with his own more solid ones. "Don't worry Ari, your wings will hold you up. Dad is a wonderful flyer. Now the only thing you might have to worry about at first is being fast like me, but you'll get better in time." He gave his brother a big smile, and then turned and moved away from the two.
(hope that nickname's okay)
"Now, are we ready? I want to get in the clouds before sunset." he said, a little bit of annoyance showing in his voice.
This wasn't the first time that he had tried to fly. He had tried it hisself a couple times without his parents. It hadn't gone too well, but he had learned by watching his mother and father flying. On previous trials, he hadn't really managed flight, more so a little bit of hovering. He was hoping that today would be the day he actually flew. That was why Mom was here. She could teach the two boys how to do it correctly.
Arianna gave Ariashi another smile and then too move away so she'd have plenty of room to take off.
"Now, remember what I've told you before, make sure you have plenty of room for your wings, and plenty of running space." She checked the area around both her sons with her eyes, and felt certain that they both had plenty of takeoff room.
