In November I switched from flute to baritone. I'm still am having trouble with eighth notes, sixteenth notes, dotted eight sixteenth notes, playing in two-four, three-four and six-eight. I can barely play high which I have to do in most of my songs. I have been practicing every band period since Thanksgiving.

Btw I play in bass clef.

If you can offer some advice please post.

Okay. You are to tell me that you switched from flute to baritone and went from treble clef to bass clef? Wow! Congrates on deciding to switch instruments but you really screwed yourself over. No offense. I switched from percussion to baritone but I stayed on treble clef. My only advice is to practice like the devil is after you.

Well actually I wanted to play french horn but my bd said that I would be better suited for baritone because of how my lips are formed. The only reason I'm on bass clef is because my bds said I would be better off if I did bass clef.

I have been practicing every time I had band since Thanksgiving. Some days I had lunch period for band and that's an hour and a half.

well the good news is that the flute and baritone are both in concert pitch, so an F on flute is the same F on baritone.

im not exactly sure how flute players tongue their flutes, but when i tongue, i cover the hole in between my top and bottom rows of teeth. as for speed, youll just have to work on that. embochure, it helps at holding a pencil with your lips. just place your lips the way you would while playing, and hold a pencil straight out.

Thats a big change but i understand i play bass clef too and going really high is a big problem of mine. the tuba going high was fine low was a problem and exact opposite with baritone. With rythms count clap tap on playing notes...practice makes perfect i guess.

Practice practice practice practice!
I practice everyday. Being in band and playing isn't enough. You have to take your instrument home and work out the parts you don't get...
Maybe I should start using my lunch period to play my bass clarinet.
What a good idea domokun
I'll ask my bd tommorow <3
