Louisa had been finding it hard to get out of the house. Ever since her cousin had got this 'mystery illness' what ever it was, her parents had become rather annoying. They wouldn't let her out and for once she was glad for the dogs, not that she wasn't always glad for them but at least she could use them as an excuse.
"Come on Peggy, come on Smudge lets get out of here!" She called the border collie and the terrier, they were an odd pair but they got on well enough. She never put them on a lead though she carried them with her on the off chance she might need them.
It was nice to be able to walk with the dogs trotting ahead, she was generally warned about what was coming or who. The dogs were overly friendly and tried to meet every person they came across. It was nice, sometimes it meant Louisa actually met a new person.

Seeing Anthony Darrow in the hospital had been a strange experience for the kid who was used to not having a father. It seemed that there was every chance he might continue without one, if Tony didn't wake up. What good was it, to meet an unconscious man? It was still only Nathan, after all, who knew of the other's existence: Tony still had no idea that he had a son.
What kind of a man was he, anyway, to be wounded like that? But there seemed to be more going on here than that, too. A whole epidemic of unconscious people, like some kind of terrible curse. Not that Nate cared. He didn't know any of these people.
Hands in his pockets, he walked with his eyes on the floor, his thoughts keeping him company. He was surprised, then, when two dogs came bounding into his line of sight. He stopped, watching them, hands still in his pockets. They were awfully friendly, but he saw they had collars on and knew their owner was nearby. He looked up, and saw who he presumed the dogs belonged to walking toward them.
"Are there no leash laws?" he asked, though it didn't sound like he really cared, one way or the other. He stooped, patting the border collie unfearfully on the head. "Nice dogs."

Louisa watched as the two dogs suddenly seemed to run in a direction and she quickly followed. She smiled though when she saw the dogs weren't causing too much trouble.
"If there are I don't know about them and to be honest, two dogs on the loose aren't going to be on the police's top priority list." She smiled as she spoke slightly amused at what she said. She really should look in to it in case there were any laws about dogs on leads.
"They aren't bothering you are they?" She whistled to the dogs and they both trotted back to her obediently. They were well trained that was at least something. Then again their owner spent more time with them then people her own age.
"I am Louisa by the way, and this is Smudge and Peggy" She bent down and patted each dog in turn. Smudge being the one she spent more time stroking, though that was mostly because he was her baby. They had adopted Peggy quite recently.

"Huh, weird names," he said, not clarifying if he was including hers in on that. Of course, that would just be rude, wouldn't it? Nathan watched her for a moment, getting the feeling that she was one of those 'nice' girls he heard were around here. Not like the kids back home, he imagined. It felt like he had come to a different world, when really he had just moved from a different neighborhood.
"My name is Nathan," he said, not offering her his hand for a handshake. He put them back in his pockets, in fact, watching her keenly. His dark eyes weren't entirely unfriendly, he was just troubled by all the new things he had been discovering.
This wasn't what he had thought finding his father would be like at all.
"Do you live around here?" he ventured to ask. Company could be nice, in small doses, and hers kept him from being bored and wandering around with the same thoughts repeating in his head. Plus, dogs were cool. They had no troubles at all, and lived like they wanted to, on impulse and instinct. That must be nice. "I thought it was dangerous to be out and around right now, what with all this... weird stuff going on."

They were kind of weird names, well Smudge was anyway, Peggy was a pretty normal name but everyone thought differently and she wasn't about to ask him to explain what it was he meant. He seemed a little odd but she wasn't about to say that either.
"Nice to meet you Nathan and yeah lived here all my life. You new to the area?" She was curious but he just seemed like the new type. She had seen lots of people move to the city and this area and he just didn't seem as at home as most people did but then everyone was on edge recently.
"There is always weird stuff going on, terrorist after terrorist attack, they never seem to stop." She shrugged as she spoke, it was normal and hey she was a 'terrorist' at night. "If you always did what they said no one would ever leave their house and that would just be boring."

"Yeah, I just got here, a couple days ago. To visit..." he looked thoughtful for a moment, "a family member. Turns out he's in the hospital anyway." He sighed, looking bored. Like the inconvenience of this family member being in the hospital wasn't the possibility of that person being in danger or dying, but because it gave Nathan nothing to do.
He did seem to light up at her words, though, looking at her in surprise. Maybe he had gotten his first assumption about her wrong, since she was now speaking his language.
He offered her a grin, "that's a good point," he said, nodding his head and looking her over again, to get a second opinion for himself of her. "And no one wants to be bored. That's just a sorry way to waste time. So you're just out walking these dogs? Or do you know any where that might be fun? This city has been a drag so far, everything locked down or swarming with cops, or completely dead."
Shaking his head, he wrinkled his nose at the thought of having to spend one more day without anything interesting to do. He hoped she might have some good ideas, since she was a local.

Louisa nodded, "Yeah most the town seem to be in hospital at the moment." She probably should have sounded a little more like she cared but in all honesty it was an inconvenience to her as well.
"Yeah just taking dogs out, my mum gives me an earful everytime I leave the house, not that she knows anything that's going on. Has left the place rather well dull." Louisa looked around and then shook her head.
"There isn't anywhere fun really not now but I know somewhere that is, it's just outside the boundary. I use to go up there to take photos, there is a large lake between some hills and its brilliant for swimming and I even tied a rope to one of the tree's to swing over the water but I haven't found a way out there yet." Louisa was rambling a little but then she use to spend every weekend out there with her tent taking photos and now she couldn't.

Nathan nodded, listening to her. It was true, the hospital was overrun with half dead people. His father included, but he didn't seem too perturbed about it at the moment. Right now he was looking for something fun to do, and that was his one short term goal, his main focus.
He hated being bored.
"Swimming huh? And there's a rope there still? We could go look and see if it's still there, if you want. You want to go swim?" Nathan, if he were a dog like the two she was walking, would have been wagging his tail like she had just said the word 'walk'. He was eager to find something fun, and swimming in a lake sounded like it would be wild enough to get him through the day.
And anyway, if he could drag her along for company that might be good, too. They had introduced themselves to each other, after all: that meant hanging out and shirking responsibilities together was totally fair game. That was how it worked back where he was growing up, anyway. No one really had to know each other: if someone asked to go hang out, that's what everyone did. That's how they all got in trouble together, and, really, the best way to get to know someone.

"Okay but we will have to sneak outside the quarantine zone. If you are up for it? The dogs are good distractions, I have managed to sneak out once before but have got caught quite a few times." Louisa wasn't a girl who got in trouble, far from it. She was however a girl determined to do her photography and with what she liked doing it meant getting out of the city. It wasn't exactly far but this quarantine had become a complete pain for her.
Louisa wasn't sure how much Nathan would want to get in to trouble. He seemed like an okay guy which was better then most the guys she had met and knew. She hoped he would want to go, having a friend for the day would be awesome.

Nathan grinned. Was he up for it? Of course he was, that was what he lived for. Causing trouble, or just being near it, was fine by him. He nodded a few times, laughing, "well, we'll see if we can't get by without being caught. I'm pretty sure we can do it. So long as you don't bring Smudge and Peggy here."
Unless they were ninja trained dogs. Then, he imagined, they could come with no trouble.
But he doubted they were.
"Are they quiet? Do you want to go now? I don't mind dogs at all," he was bored, so he was pressing the issue. He needed something interesting to do as soon as possible, and he was really eager to get some swimming in. Better than bumming at the hospital, any day.

"But Smudge and Peggy are the distraction! What I did when I did get out before was use them to distract the officers, sneak past and collect the dogs the other side while apologizing for them being a hassle." Louisa had a cheeky streak in her. It wasn't one that many people saw but if someone stopped her from something she really liked...
"Sure lets go! If we go this way then I will let the dogs go ahead and we can go around some buildings and avoid most of the officers!" After all it wasn't like she patrolled this area every night and had pretty much got the routine of the officers memorized. Not that she thought Nathan would pick up on it, after all they were sneaking out and he seemed bored. This was somewhat exciting though, she really wanted to get out and play on her rope swing. The dogs would enjoy a good swim too.

"Distraction? Huh, now that's a good idea." He grinned, looking at the dogs. They didn't look like they would be tough fighters or good guard dogs, but distractions? Who wouldn't want to pet them? Even Nathan had stopped to pet them, though half of that was them running up to him.
This chick was just the kind of person he liked to associate with. She was clever and wanted to make some trouble with him, just so they could go swimming. That was a plan if ever he had heard one.
"Alright, that sounds good," he said, nodding when she told him how they would avoid the cops. Always a good plan. He indicated for them to head out, though he didn't actually know the way, so she would have to lead.

Louisa smiled feeling mildly important. She led the way, the dogs next to her. They went quite a way through various alleys before the stopped and told the dogs to go. She watched them run to the end and heard some voices before turning to Nathan and darting down another alley.
"Okay the dogs will have their attention for a while. We need to go around here quickly and get out the other side and look tired when we get to the officers from the other direction. Also try and look stupidly happy to see the dogs again." She smiled and turned before waiting for an answer, she knew they didn't have much time for them or her dogs and she loved her dogs.
Sneaking out was way too easy when you had two cute dogs. As she reached the end of the alley and their cover all the officers were looking at the two overly happy barking dogs and of course trying to catch them. Louisa smiled, she was so proud of her dogs. She then turned and looked for cover to run to.
"Those bushes over there okay? Look before running, they see us then we will get dragged back!" She knew, it had happened. Luckily these seemed to be a different set of officers to the ones she had met before. When she got a chance she ran.

Nathan followed her, feeling a bit excited now. He wanted to sneak by these cops and feel that rush of accomplishment when they reached the park. There was no room for failure here: Nate was good at being bad. This was something he could do without that nagging feeling in the back of his head, asking him what he would do if he messed up. What everyone would say.
He knew no one would say anything, because he was the boss. Or that was how it was in his last neighborhood. He had a reputation.
Nate nodded at the orders. Lying he could do. Cake walk, man. He grinned and then followed her. He spotted the bushes and nodded again, then waited for a chance to run. He didn't want to get caught. He was good at this, though, and he darted when he had the chance.

Louisa made it to the bushes without being spotted though she had held her breath when she got there on the off chance that the officers would be able to hear her breathing. They would have to be more careful going back, the officers would be changing over soon and patrolling different areas.
As Nathan got back she smiled.
"Awesome right, we need to head that way then double back pretending to look for the dogs. They will run to you as well as me, being that they are so friendly so should be easy enough to pull off!" Louisa smiled and then headed off, she kept low to the ground in case anyone saw them before she stood up and turned towards the officers.
She then let out a whistle and called her dogs names.
