Life was really starting to look up for him. Momma Ara and Mister Morph were the nicest adults he had come into contact with since . . . well, ever! And Mister Morph had clipped off the bad bad spikes from his collars, so at least the only thing that could bother him now was the fact that it was a little tight and chafed on his fur; but such things he could overcome with time, he was sure. And now his first frend Odette was going to take him to meet more cats, hopefully each as nice as the others. Maybe the blind cat Amaranth would sympathize with him like she said. Maybe he'd make a new friend . . .

Elijah didn't tell his parents where exactly he was going when he decided to leave, only that he was going to play with friends. He wanted to make it a surprise whenever he came back with his collar off; yup, that was the plan after meeting Odette's friends! They would be so proud, and it made the kitten smile as he followed Odette's aura. Yeah, his head still hurt from hitting that pole, but ever was Elijah the hopeful one that he could keep his mind off the dull thuds of his headache. Yes, he'd make more friends, get his collar off, and make Momma Ara and Mister Morph so proud . . . !

Odette rushed about excitedly, tidying up the warehouse to make a good presentation. She hadn't seen Elijah in a while, and was rather excited that he would be coming to meet Amaranth and Siam. She was also rather impressed at how fast Elijah had been 'adopted' by other strays. She was sure they could all be good friends.

Meanwhile Siam was relaxing, listening to the radio and sipping sake once more. At least she wasn't licking her paws though. It was another of her bad habits. She hummed along, and watched Amaranth who was pacing back and forth with anticipation in front of her. "Are you okay?" Siam asked, quirking a brow.

"Yeah," Ammy chuckled, "I'm just kind of excited to meet someone like me." Her ears flicked back in forth as she listened for their guest's arrival. She heard from Odette that he'd be bringing a large cross; a perfect noise to be listening for for his arrival. After all, Amaranth had to rely more on her hearing and feeling of touch more than ever. Along with her nose. "Hmmm I wonder what he's like..."

"Don't worry. You'll love him," Odette commented as she moved a pile of boxes out of the way. "He was a shy when I met him, but he seemed interested in Wild Cat."

"Ooooh," This caught Siam's attention and she perked up even more. "Maybe he's a fan. Ooooh I really want to find that collar of his."

Odette simply rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah, we know. So you can gain whatever magical power it holds. It's funny how you want a collar when you hate them so much..."

"Hey, I never said I was gonna wear it exactly," Siam huffed. "Maybe you don't have to wear it to make it work." The three babbled on about insignificant things for awhile until their guest would arrive.

Her scent was easy enough to follow, even amongst the myriad of others bombarding his nose. I guess I'm good at being . . . a one-track mind? Is that what that's called? The scent itself also seemed to have a little aura of its own, not in color like most auras were read by, but by scent. so it was like a scent within a scent . . . Agh, it was confusing even to him!

With luck, Elijah managed not to get engaged with any fo the locals as he followed his nose, finding that the most concentrated area of Odette's aura was within the conines of something . . . metal. What was it called again? A "warehouse"? Aiyee, now to find the door . . . He kept a paw along the wall and slowly slid it about as he walked, knocking a few times when he was sure he had found the door - several times he did this to be exact. Did warehouses even have doors? He had heard some building have a garage-like entrance where the cover slid up. But how was he supposed to lift it . . .? "U-Um, Odette?" Elijah mewled every once in a while. "Odette? It's me. U-Um, I can't find the door . . ."

Oh boy, it would be just like him if this was the wrong place!

Amaranth's ears flicked toward the door. "Odette, he's hear. I can hear him calling for you." Her heart skipped a beat with excitement.

"Yay!" Odette cheered, making her way to the door. Her curly hair bounced as she practically skipped her way there. With a giant heave, she pulled open the garage-like door. "Hi there Elijah. Right this way. Follow my voice," she urged.

Siam lept up from her seat and followed Amaranth to the door to greet Eli. As soon as Siam girls saw him, she could help but squee. "He's so adorable. And he even has feathers."

"Oooh," Amaranth said in awe. "Those are special. They look like wings from what I remember." She sniffed the air, and could smell the Eli's scent and put it to memory, his aura too.

"You're right. He does have wings. Oh wow, and it looks like he got the spikes that were digging into his neck off. Though he still has the collar. Congratulations Eli! And I'm so glad you found a family. By the way this is Amaranth, and the one that smells like sake is Siam." She rolled her eyes and laughed.

And so the group awaited Elijah to take his first steps inside.

Now happily able to put a voice to the scent, the kitten crept in, blinking uselessly at the hoarde of new scents. Grease, metal, sweat, "sake", Odette, and a myriad of others . . . Had it not been for the visitation, he might've wandered off to dig his nose into any and everything there in that warehouse. "Thanks!" Elijah replied with a warm smile, growing fuzzy just at the mention of his new family. He couldn't ask for better parents!

Ears pricked at their individual voices, he followed them to where they were gathered and settled on his haunches, guesstimating where Amaranth and Siam were and looking up at them. "U-Um, hiya!" he chirped, which was just another sign that his new home had let him slowly come out of his shell. "They're not really feathers, but people tell me they look like wings, y-yeah. And Mister Morph, my dad, he clipped the spikes off with something. I'll t-take the collar off really soon too! So, um . . ." Both of these women were older too, maybe even older than Odette - as old as his parents? What should he say? "H-How're you guys?"

"We're good. We've even made some plans against the Facility; a place where they do bad things to cats. A lot of cats come out with unfortunate disabilities, similar to the way Amaranth and Odette are here."

"Yes, Odette has informed me that you are quite like me. Of course neither of us have been to the Facility...at least I think. You haven't been there have you? It's truly a horror. But in my case I lived with a horrible owner and a lot of other cats. My blindness was caused by her throwing a bottle at me. But she's done a million other mean things too. Not just to me, but the other cats there."

"I on the other hand WAS at the Facility. I came out deaf in one ear.....Yes, but I've never seen a collar quite like yours before. Even without the spikes, I'm sure you're just itching to get it off so you can be a Free Collar."

At the mention 'Free Collar' Siam frowned. It wasn't that she disagreed, but ever since the incident, she didn't like to be included with the other cats that were Free Collars, at least she didn't want to be associated with the ones at Nyan Man.

"Anyway, I see you still carry that cross. Is it special?" Odette asked curiously.

A big cross? I wonder of its significance. I've met few religious cats.

So many stories, and so sad to boot . . . The mere mention of this Facility made his fur crawl, and Elijah thought a prayer of thanks for his odd luck never having brought him near the place. "Nee . . . I'm sorry," he said to all three, ears docked with sympathy and, in Odette's case, near-empathy. "I have - I-I had an owner too. He got mad easily, and . . ." He could hear the human's yells still, and for a moment he reverted back to the state Odette had first found him in. Then the kitten blinked, and he tried to shake it off. "But I was born blind, so I guess that's kinda a blessing in a way? I can't imagine what it's like, being made blind . . . I'm really sorry, Miss Amaranth.

"And the cross, um . . . A nice priest gave it to me one day, so I just kept ahold of it since," Elijah explained. "So in a way you could call it special. It was the first real gift a human gave me. Maybe they're not all bad . . . ?"

Maybe that wasn't the best idea to pose to this group. Elijah immediately regretted bringing it up.

Everyone's' faces saddened when they heard Eli's story. They were proud that he at least took his blindness in stride. But when the topic of humans being 'not-so-bad' came up Odette wanted to shrink into a corner and cover her ears. Would Siam and Amaranth blow up about it? Dear God, she hoped not. She gave the other two girls a stern look, and bit her lip.

Luckily Amaranth and Siam understood. But that didn't mean they weren't going to give it their all to persuade Elijah otherwise.

"Well you still have to be careful," Siam began.

"Yes," Amaranth added. "They may give you something, but they're just as quick to take it away. So just remember to take extra precautions."

"If you don't, sometimes bad things happen." There was a hint of sadness in Siam's voice.

Amaranth patted Siam on the back. "Siam and I may hate humans. But Odette used to like them. Even since the Facility incident I think she still has a few doubts."

"It's true," Odette stated. "I used to have such a nice owner," she pouted. "But then those cruel people. I just don't get it."

"Maybe we should have you talk to Romeo again. Maybe he could persuade you otherwise. He could even meet Eli. He's very persuasive you know."

"Well I might talk to him, but don't force Eli to. He should be able to decide what he thinks of humans on his own."

"You're right," the other two girls agreed.

He gathered their perceptions up into an internal yarn ball and batted it about, considering their words. "Cats are nice and mean too," he said after a small pause, frowning in thought. "The other one in the house didn't like me at all. But then I met Miss Ara and Mister Morph, and they're really, really nice. So maybe humans are nice and mean too, even if they don't get what we're saying. I want to think they're not all bad though . . ." Yes, even the scarred little kitten still held onto the belief that all things were inherantly good for the most part.

Then his ears pricked at the mention of this "Romeo" character. "Nee? Who's he?" Elijah asked, tilting his ears forward. Was Romeo like them, a hater of humans? Was he blind too? Did he come from The Facility like Odette? He wondered quietly, hoping to get his questions answered without having to voice them. Early in life the kitten had been taught by his "roommate" of sorts that some questions weren't to be asked at all unless he wanted a boxing on the ears - sometimes with claws extended.

Amaranth and Siam looked toward each other, shaking there heads and sighing. It wouldn't matter if they each told their sob stories, Elijah probably wouldn't change his mind. But they didn't want to put a damper on his optimism-that just seemed so harsh.

"You could be right," Odette added. "But it wouldn't hurt to learn more about the humans and what they do. We mentioned Romeo. He'd be good to talk to. According to Ammy and Siam, he offered an alliance propositon."

"That he did. We plan to storm the Facility that's harboring cats and putting them in danger.";/color]

"Yeah I do rescue missions like that all the time. We've had to defeat guard dogs, sneak around security cameras, and snoop around the dark hallways...not to brag or anything." *SWEATDROP*

But back to that gift of yours, your cross. Is it special? Are you religious at all? That's pretty neat."

The others agreed.

"S-Storm the Facility?" Jeez, Odette wasn't kidding! Miss Amaranth really could take care of herself! Even though both of them were blind, he faced the older she-cat with an awed expression. Was this the stuff of heros? Maybe this was how Odette made friends with them: they were kinda like idols, fighting humans like that! Even if he wasn't very sure yet about their methods, the fact that they could take care of themselves and be so willing to put themselves in danger just to save those other cats . . . I want to be just like them! he thought. I want to be a hero!

And this Romeo, he was probably just like them. If I wanna get stronger, I have to learn from the heroes themselves . . . "I want ta visit Mister Romeo then," Elijah decided with a little nod towards Odette's voice. "I wanna help too!" He didn't even seem to hear the thing about his cross, caught up with the swelling hope in his breast that this could lead to greater things. Imagine, him coming back to his new parents with not only his collar gone, but with the pride of knowing he had helped save other cats! He basked in the glow of the idea and immediately promised himself to achieve it. "I-I'm a kid, but I can help, p-promise! I have a r-r-really g-good nose and h-hearing," the kitten went on, stumbling over his words in his eagerness.

The girls beamed. They were glad to hear his response. There was definitely hope for the lad. With good training like Amaranth had, he would no doubt be an asset. You could feel the happiness spreading through the room.

"That's a great idea Eli," Siam said proudly. "We're sure to see Romeo soon. We have plans to discuss. And we'll mention you to him. He's sure to be as eager to meet you as Amaranth and I were."

"And I could even give you some lessons on how to utilize that great hearing and sense of smell of yours. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it," Ammy offered.

Now they had a plan. And one more eager teammate. The Facility was sure to fall.

A big open smile spread across his features, and his tail twitched excitedly. "I p-promise I won't let you down!" he told them, voice hiking up. And look, Miss Amaranth was going to teach him some things too! The day was quickly looking up for him despite the semi-hazardous trip to find Gokiinu Warehouse, nestling itself just beneath the day he was actually adopted: the day he was accepted by his first group of friends and into something even greater and more noble of a cause! The kitten began to purr loudly, brimming with happiness. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" he mewled, nodding once in the direction of each she-cat. "When can we see Mister Romeo? A-After I train a bit? When do I start?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2010 1:07 pm

The girls chuckled, "When we see Romeo is up to you. You can have a little training first if you like. I'll leave that up to you too," Amaranth replied.

"This is so exciting," Odette added, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Soon the Facility will fall and it will be thanks to all my friends. She hugged Amaranth, and hung off her arm. "Thank you for offering to train Eli. I'll be he'll be as great as you in no time flat."

"Maybe even greater than me," Ammy laughed.

Siam walked over to the table to get more sake. It was enough for one cup. She held up the single glass. "Cheers then!"

"Yeah cheers!"

"I think you need more glasses for that guys."

"Bah, whatever. This'll do."

Odette laughed. "But we could get the rest of us drinks. Something besides booze for our guest. And in the meantime we can talk about out future plans."

"Agreed. Eli, would you like a drink? We've got milk, apple juice, water..."

"Booze . . . ?" It was such a funny-sounding word, he actually laughed a little. "Let's start now! I-I mean, if you want to. Right after drinks. I'm kinda thirsty too." He flushed a little bit at the thought that he could possibly be any better than Miss Amaranth, which to him sounded like climbing the biggest mountain there was would be just as easy. In bone-chilling snow. Alone. But I have to try, Elijah told himself. I have to!

"Um . . . Milk, please?" He was still somewhat used to being fed milk in a bowl, one of the few kind things of his last home. Ever since he was adopted, the kitten had been introducedto a far larger pool of options for food and drink, but he had to take it with babysteps - else he was sure he'd get lost under the pure pressure of freedom itself! The young one's ears pricked at Odette's words afterwards. "Future plans? Y-You mean there's more after saving people from the Facility?"
