Misted Memories: Village Memorial Area The graveyard of Kirigakure. One of the few places where the mist thins a bit, most Mist shinobi who die are buried here and even those that aren't buried here still have their names etched into the large memorial at the front of the graveyard. The graves are lined up in neat rows and are marked with various headstones. However, not all of the headstones specify who is buried. Many Mist shinobi have died in action so badly disfigured that it was impossible to identify them. Many were identified later through various methods, but many others remain mysteries. However, these unmarked gravestones are still treated with much respect and volunteers often come to the graveyard to tend the resting places of the unnamed.
However, the saddest part of the graveyard is probably not the stones of the unnamed, but the stones of the named children who died during the era of the Bloody Mist, where it was required for friends to kill each other to become shinobi. These graves are treated with the utmost care and a separate memorial has been erected for these countless children who lost their lives, both as a reminder of the past and as a promise to never commit such atrocities again.

After leaving the tower Kiyoko had made her way into the cemetery. She walked around for a while with now particular destination in mind. Her thoughts were full of what had happened at the tower. She didn't know how to take everything. Or how she was supposed to think about it. She wasn't sure of how she was supposed to view the new kage, or Synn.
She stopped in front of a single headstone. It was large and had two names on it. Matsuya, and kiyoko Mayu. Her parents. They weren't here to tell her what to do. They weren't here. She stood looking and the mist circling around her and her parents.
I miss you...the both of you. I'm still sorry that I hid.....I hid in that tree like a coward. And because of that the two of you are gone and I'm not sure what path I'm supposed to take. But today....whatever path I'm supposed to lead....I think today I took my first steps. I only wish the two of you were here. She stopped and looked away blinking away tears. She didn't understand what she was feeling. Mayu or not she didn't understand why the events of today had bothered her so much. She didn't understand how she felt when she talked to her parents. So she simply stood there. She wasn't thinking at all, which was a difficult task. But here...surrounded by the deceased, she felt calm somehow.
She walked away from her parents grave to the special memorial set up for kids who died during the bloody mist era. She looked at the giant stone that held the names of everyone. She rested her hand on the stone lightly, a cold chill running down her spine. She shivered and looked across the many names.
I'm sorry. I know this isn't like me at all. To be so..emotional. I'm usually a totally different person. But thank you. All of you...Now that I think about you. I wonder...if I was alive then...would I have survived? You gave up your lives for such a meaningless reason. Or that's how it seems now....then..I guess you died for the right to live. She shook her head not knowing what to say. She felt so confused for some reason. So many feelings, and thoughts. All because of that short time in the tower.
(sorry if this seems boring and pointless, but it helps with her character.)

Matsuya trudged into the graveyard, his collar still pulled up. This place interested him for two reasons: the abundance of spirits to talk to and the fact that this was pretty much the only place you could see the moon at night. That, and his parents were buried here. Matsuya sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he looked up at the moon. There's a sight I've missed. A faint smile traced his lips as he looked at the yellow orb. It was as that smile appeared that Matsuya sensed Kiyoko's chakra. He hadn't been paying attention, or he probably would've noticed it sooner. He walked gingerly, not wanting to disturb her. He edged closer until he saw where she was. From the way she looked, she was upset, whether from the children's memorial she was resting her hand on or something else he didn't know. But upset, nonetheless. He stood a few meters behind her, his collar still pulled up and his hands still in his pockets. "I don't know if this makes it any better, but none of them are still here. As spirits, I mean. They've all moved on to Heaven. I'd be able to see them if they were still here." He'd chosen to speak with his mouth rather than his head. He knew they were alone here and even if there was some spirit lingering around, they already knew Matsuya could see them. Matsuya's small smile stayed on his face. Now they both knew something about each other. Kiyoko spoke using her mind and Matsuya spoke to the dead. Both equally strange to most. But Matsuya was used to strange.

Kiyoko had sensed Matsuya, but only after some time. She had been preoccupied with the memorial in front of her, and hadn't been paying attention. She remained silent, her hand tracing the names carved into the stone. She had expected matsuya to talk to her mentally, so the sound of his own voice startled her a little. She turned to face her dropping her hand to her side. She gave him a small smile.
Matsuya she thought, I wonder if he knows he has the same name as my dad. She wondered. She listened to what he said and found it curious. How was one's mind to be programmed to see spirits? But it comforted her knowing they had been able to move one. She wouldn't want to linger here either. She wished she could talk aloud too.
Thank you..that helped me feel a bit better. she laughed softly. This isn't like me at all. I almost never come here... She looked around. But what happened in the tower...it got me to thinking. So I wanted to come and talk to my parents She froze. He could see ghosts...maybe..just maybe he could tell her if they were still around. She often felt like they were. She looked off in the direction her parents were in and sighed shaking her head. Do you mind if I ask why you're here? Her thoughts were nothing but soft, and gentle. A little sad. Not at all like how they were earlier, when they had been strong.

Matsuya's small smile stayed put as Kiyoko spoke. When she asked why he was here he scratched the back of his head and his smile grew. "Well it's kinda weird." Matsuya nodded his head at the moon. "The moon. It's something I always want to see at night, but the mist makes it nearly impossible. So I come here sometimes just to look at it. That, and there's always a bunch of spirits to talk to here. Some of them have interesting stories to tell." Matsuya didn't mention the fact that his parents were buried here. Why he didn't know, but it didn't seem appropriate. He had his momentos in the headband he'd sewn into his sleeve and the katana by his side. "What about you, Kiyoko? Why are you here?"

Kiyoko listened to him and looked up at the moon. What an odd but simple reason to come to a grave yard. She looked up at the moon for a moment without saying anything. He was right...you could see the moon here. She smiled. She should look at it more often. He asked why she was here and she looked back at him.
I came to see my parents actually....I hadn't talked to them in a while. I thought it might be something good to do considering everything that's gone on so far. But I feel like they don't want to listen to me She sighed that last thought more to herself than to him, although she knew he could hear her. She walked over to him with a smile on her face and tugged on his arm.
come one, can I show you something? She asked.

Matsuya nodded and followed her. It was interesting. Both of their parents were buried here. Matsuya knew it was only natural seeing as they all had been Kirigakure shinobi. At least he thought so. "So your parents are here too? Mine are over there." Matsuya pointed with the arm she wasn't holding to the graves in the corner of the graveyard. "I guess they're here for the same reason a lot of the other ones are. They died on a mission to kill a rogue shinobi. At least that's what the ANBU told me afterward." Matsuya sighed. Truth was, he could barely stand to remember the day that ANBU man had handed him the headbands and katana. He'd blocked it out over the few months he'd mourned. Can't stand to remember the pain, I guess.

Kiyoko didn't look into his thoughts. She didn't want to be rude, and she could tell he wasn't talking to her right now. She glanced in the direction he pointed thinking she might go visit them later. She stopped in front of her parents tombstones and bowed to it as a hello. She then turned to Matsuya.
Look at the names she smiled a little. If he looked at the names it would say matsuya and kiyoko Mayu. She had been named after her mother. And matsuya shared the same name as her dad. It's odd she explained.

Matsuya knelled down, resting his forearms on his knees. "Huh. Well that is strange, Kiyoko. I'd always thought I was the only person ever to be named Matsuya." He glanced back at her, a smile on his face. "It's good to know I'm not strange in every aspect, though." Matsuya's face turned back to the grave. "For what it's worth, Kiyoko, I'm sorry. I know the pain of losing your parents." For once, Matsuya's small smile dissapeared. His mind was starting to drift back to the day he'd recieved his momentos. He ran a hand through the silver mess on his head and sighed. "But we learn to deal with it and move on towards our goals." Matsuya stood and and faced Kiyoko. His green eyes staring down at his feet, like he was thinking heavily. "But that's where our friends come in. That way, we don't have to try and achieve those goals on our own." There was something Matsuya knew very little about: friendship. He'd never had any true friends. Most everyone he met either looked at his strangely for his abilities or was dead. Neither of those was good qualities for a friend.

Kiyoko smiled at him. She was happy that he found amusement in sharing the same name with her dad. But then he frowned and she looked at him curiously. He apologized for her parents and she simply shook her head. He didn't need to do that. He spoke of friends and she kept the soft smile on her face. She could tell he knew little of what friends were, much like herself. They both in the same boat, same circumstances. He was looking away from her now and she tilted his chin up to look at her before she dropped her hand away and smiled a soft smile.
Friends..like us? she asked him softly. They had only just meat. But she had a feeling they could turn out to be good friends. They seemed to get along well and were facing the same problems. She had found him to be a nice friend already.

Matsuya's smile slowly returned to his face. "Yeah, Kiyoko, like us." His smile continued to grow, until it was almost a fully-fledged grin. It was nice to have a friend. It was a new feeling for Matsuya, but it wasn't an unwelcome one. "This is a new feeling for me. Friendship, I mean. I honestly don't think I've ever had a friend before. But it feels good to have someone you know you can rely on." Matsuya was slowly realizing how similar him and Kiyoko were. Neither of them talked all that much. They both came from orphan pasts. And they were both equally odd in the ways they communicated. These similarities could prove to be the begining of a great friendship.

Kiyoko smiled with him when he agreed that they were friends. She didn't mean for it to seem like she had a crush on him or anything, because she didn't. She had literally just met him after all. But out of all the people she had met so far she found he was the easiest to get alone with. She listened to him explain how he wasn't used to having a friend and she didn't really know what to say. She was the same way. She looked over at her parents grave stone and kept the smile on her face. She wished they were here to see the progress she was making.

Matsuya's smile stayed firmly planted on his face as he watched Kiyoko. He'd made his first friend, quite the accomplishment. Matsuya raised his arms over his head to stretch. All this standing around was getting to him. He lowered his arms and laced his fingers behind his head. "So, now what should we do? A graveyard is quite a depressing place to celebrate a new friendship. It is late though."Matsuya looked at the moon again. He might just be able to sleep tonight, no matter how short a time.

Kiyoko yawned a little bit. It was indeed getting late, but with everything that had happened today the last thing she felt like doing was sleeping. Matsuya asked her what they should do know and she honestly wasn't sure what to say. She watched as he glanced up at the moon. She looked up at the moon too. It looked very beautiful too her, and new somehow, as if she were seeing it for the first time. She looked back to matsuya.
Why don't we try to get some sleep. Then int he morning if you want to we can celebrate by eating out before returning the The tower to see how things went, and if there is anything we should know before training. She suggested, thinking that idea sounded good. She wondered if they would be put on the same team. She was curious to find out what his fighting style was.

Matsuya nodded, his eyes still on the moon. His green eyes were reflecting the bright white of the glowing moon. "Sounds good to me. I might not sleep good, but I can always try. That was the reason I ended up at the tower anyway, not being able to sleep." Matsuya's eyes turned to Kiyoko. There was a lot he still wondered about her. But he supposed he'd find out soon enough if they were put on the same squad. "Lead the way, Kiyoko. I prefer to follow."
