Uh what do you mean? Like people who've only played for a few months and can already play like high level music?

Nice job!! I'm a freshman but this year I've been 1st chair alto sax in wind ensemble (the advanced band). It's a lot of fun to play the challenging music, and you learn a ton throughout the year. It's really intimidating at first with all of the upperclassmen around you (the 2nd and 3rd chair altos were seniors) but you make a lot of friends and feel comfortable pretty quickly. If anything, just make sure you know your music! Practice a ton so you don't fall behind, and listen to the upperclassmen when they give you advice.

Ok, but isn't "advanced beginners" a oxymoron?

Otherwise,
In band terms I am. After choir for two years, I have switched to band. I started as an alto in choir, stayed there, then I got bored and choir lost it's charm, plus I could've sworn the the choir teacher had a grudge against me. So I started band last year on the French Horn.

I'm a veteran beginner.
I'm in the top band but I'm not too great.
I try hard but I'm not naturally musically inclined.
I have to practice the music twice as much as everyone else while my oboe buddy plays it maybe thrice and has it down nearly perfect.
He's been in band for some two years while I've been in it for almost seven.
I also have dyscalulia(dyslexia/mental disability in math)so notes tend to get switched around in my head.
It's such a pain! And I lose count so easily.
My tone is great but add a tempo and a metronome and I fall apart. ;o;
