Kafiri was becoming more and more comfortable in her new home as time went on. She was happy to have a job to do, flattered that she was trusted to do something so important well. It worried her that it had meant displacing some very determined old lions but that was not her decision and she was very eager to help. She was still shy of socializing, though she was spending the remainder of a very quiet afternoon near the main dens, looking out over the lake and just watching the water. It was very different from her old home in the jungle and there was something oddly peaceful (and fascinating) about watching it.

Valerius had decided to stretch his legs, get out of the caves for a while. Trying to work on Tahari's fits was exhausting, as he usually had to physically hold her down with his body. Which was...awkward for a lion trying to be virtuous. Nevermind that her grandparents and mother were there always trying to calm her.

So instead, they shooed him out, and he thankfully accepted. He wandered towards the lake, thinking about pondering over some deep thoughts while admiring the reflection of the sky when he noticed that someone else had beaten him there. Not too unusual, but the pride wasn't quite flourishing yet, and so it wasn't an everyday thing.

As he neared, he paused, keeping a comfortable distance. No use in invading someone's space. "Hello."

Kafiri wasn't surprised to hear a voice behind her, but she was when she realized it was directed at her. Perhaps it shouldn't have been surprising but so close to the dens she was expecting some background noise. She turned, offering a shy smile and a nod.

"Hello," she said, trying very hard to find his name and rank but she couldn't think of it. She didn't have much else to do when there were no trials and now she felt some obligation to keep track of who was who.. of course, she had come from a group that was all family, it might have been a habit.

"How are you?" she asked, not sure what else to say.

Feeling more welcome, he took a few more steps towards her, settling next to her about 2 feet away. He glanced at the water for a moment, and then at her. "I'm well," he replied. "Taking a break from a little project I'm helping on." He didn't know how to explain it, and wasn't sure how much the rest of the small pride would know. Seeing as how caves were built to echo, perhaps everyone did.

"You're one of the Elohim, right?" he asked carefully, hoping not to be wrong. He didn't think so, but one never knew.

If Kafiri knew anything of the project he spoke of, she didn't let on but she did smile at him. It was nice to take a break sometimes, and he did say he was well. Both very good things, then.

"Yes, I'm Kafiri," she said, smiling apologetically, "I can't seem to recall exactly who you are, though I'm sure I've seen you around." Ofanim was the safest guess but you never knew. He looked well able to be an excellent Malakim.

He chuckled. "You're colours are unique within the pride, or as much as I've seen an heard." He offered her a polite bow for her ranking, picking up the conversation.

"Valerius," he said with a nod. "My sister, Amkia is here, though I came to join the pride a bit after she did." And what it was to see that she had kids; having visions didn't always tell you everything.

"I'm staying with Barafu'malkia's family at the moment, spending my time with them as well as my sister. It's quiet here, I like it very much."

Still sensitive about her colors, there was some hesitation in the way she smiled at his comment. She knew it wasn't meant as a bad thing but a youth of neglect and abuse because she was unfortunate enough to be the cub most resembling her father.. well, she couldn't help it sometimes.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Valerius," she said, noting the comment about his sister being a member of the pride. That would explain how he would seem so especially familiar even though she couldn't quite remember him specifically.

"Oh yes," she said, brightening up at the mention of the group he was staying with, "It must be interesting, they're quite the group. I'm glad you like it here, it is very nice."

Tahari narrowed her eyes as she watched Valerius. The spiteful lioness was in a lucid state of mind, and confusion gripped at her heart. Was every male that decided to walk in her life going to be like this? She couldn't decide if she liked him or hated him.

Carefully, almost as if stepping incorrectly would set her off into another fit, she sneaked towards the pair. Tahari wasn't very good at being quiet, though, and Valerius noticed her quite quickly.

He turned to greet her, not making any sudden moves. He still couldn't figure out what triggered her, if anything did at all. "Ah, hello, Tahari."

Kafiri was not so careful in turning around, not knowing of any need to be, though she was certainly not anything but relaxed. She offered a smile when she spotted the lioness, and was pleased that Valerius said her name so she wouldn't have to struggle to find it, though she recognized her as one in Barafu'malkia's family immediately.

"Good afternoon," she said.

Tahari froze as the pair turned around. Moreso because she recognized his companion. One of the Elohim. Tahari wasn't a stranger to what they looked like, back before when her relationship with Bara was better.

Meekly, she nodded at the both of them, wishing she could ignore Valerius. What was his goal in 'helping' her? Humiliating her? Thought Tahari didn't quite like the fits, she did like the weakness she saw in her mother when they occurred. The two of them had never gotten along well, especially after one of her sisters got lost when they were juveniles.

Valerius didn't want to make too much of a deal about Tahari and her condition. It wasn't something to be padded or acknowledged. Moreso, it just needed a little control, and she was doing okay so far. He watched as she drew closer, seeing the tension as she grew closer to him. He shifted back a bit, letting her take a bit of the stage.

"You work with my aunt, Elohim," she answered quietly. "Sorry, Kafiri. She talked of you. I haven't seen her in a while, I hope she has been of use since..." she paused, unable to go on. That was territory she couldn't touch, or she'd lose it.

Valerius picked up quickly. "Ah, the kids. I'm sure she's fine now, they've gotten old enough to not be so clingy."

Kafiri could feel the tension in the air but she maintained a smile, trying hard not to make things worse. She too shifted so they were better arranged to have a conversation between the three of them. She nodded when her rank and relationship to Bara was acknowledged.

"Oh yes, I recognize you as one of her family," she said with a smile, she glanced over to Valerius as he cut in, wondering at the way Tahari paused. And because she wasn't sure, she opted not to say anything else.

"Valerius was just telling me he's staying with your family," she said, trying to bring Tahari into the conversation they had been having- and just in case she wanted to know what they were talking about, she had been trying to sneak up after all, "Is he a good guest?"
PostPosted: Sat May 29, 2010 6:13 pm

Tahari glanced at him, wondering why he said that. A million different scenarios ran through her head, not realizing that she was mildly using her power mixed with her imagination. She just figured she was guessing it all on her own. "He's alright," she shrugged, ignoring a flashing grin fro the male. She really wanted to say how annoying he was, but this wasn't the place. Her family would argue it down, anyway.

Val shrugged after his grin. "Well, I try to stay with my sister too, but I don't want to seem like I'm imposing. I'm sure I'll figure out what exactly to do soon. And hopefully while the pride is still quiet." He felt a little ominous, but as he didn't know the full situation of the pride before he got here, he didn't want to speculate. A lot of that would probably ride of the shoulders of the King and the Elohim. He would just be there as the muscle and support.

Tahari decided to shrug off her thoughts. She could gloom in them later, when alone. That was always a better time for them. "If you ever want to visit our family, Kafiri, you're welcome to." She knew that they had quite a family.

Tahari's answer made Kafiri laugh quietly, she was expecting some such answer from her. Not everybody got along well, but she didn't expect that was entirely the case here. Tahari didn't seem like she was intending to be malicious in approaching and if you really didn't like someone you never had to approach them at all. It was interesting.

Her smile wavered when she looked from Tahari to Val as he mentioned sorting out some arrangement for himself while the pride was still quiet. She shuffled a bit but managed a nod and to keep her smile from disappearing completely. Some time had passed since she had been assigned to be an Elohim but she couldn't shake an uneasy feeling about the whole situation. Her visions were never strong and she didn't know about them but they were very likely a contributing factor.

"I'd like that," she said, looking back to Tahari with a smile, "I'm more shy than I ought to be now, I just might have to visit."

Tahari didn't think Kafiri would actually accept her offer. She was being polite, as one should to their elders or those above them. Or just...to someone who looked like they needed it. She knew her family would be welcome to having a visitor, but Tahari regretted it.

Valerius observed her quietly, watching her as her head sunk. He hoped that the Elohim wouldn't be crestfallen with her apparent reaction. "As long as you don't mind the company of some old folks, I'm sure it would be a lovely visit."

Tahari caught that remark, and was visibly offended. "My grandmother isn't some 'old folk'." She snorted at him, disregarding all her worries from a moment ago. Kweu was the only family member she felt she could trust anymore. Turning to Kafiri, she apologized. "He's as loony as my grandfather," she remarked, resisting the urge to kick Valerius. The word loony coming from her was quite amusing.

Kafiri knew the risks of accepting such an offer, but accepting and following through were two different things. Still, she was a bit disappointed by the reaction, though there was nothing she could or would do about it. She looked over to Valerius when he spoke, smiling-- and then to Tahari when she argued back.

"That keeps it interesting, at least," she offered, glancing to Valerius.
